she's in the habit of deciding when Adrien's suffering is acceptable, and if it is, she'll just fix it later.

will forever be interesting to me how frequently sam’s sexuality correlates to or is also present in episodes/storylines about his “darkness” and how that seems to be a very deliberate choice. i really enjoy her describing his decision to not have sex as “exile,” especially within the larger context of s2 and the way heart fits into it — sam has been constantly worried abt john’s last words and he’s forced to kill a “monster” that narratively represents him — where it has the connotation of sam deliberately avoiding this kind of connection as a sort of response to this fear that any kind of emotion / desire within him could play into or be proof of this “dark side”.

I completely understand the annoyance with this series having such an obtrusive cascade of gimmicks
My extremely biased personal hunch is that Grian was using this season to test a bunch of frameworks for gimmicks at once. Not These Exact Gimmicks but different levels of RNG; if knowledge/skill/etc-based gimmicks were acceptable or equitable; how players & viewers would react to obviously intentional assignment of 'random' traits.
If the next series rolls around and its also crazy & unbalanced, or doesn't take any lessons from this series¹, I'll be annoyed. but rn im like Okay Sure. One wack season to avoid the drip-feed of one mechanic at a time that keeps a whole season locked into Obvious Game Structure Problems is a fine sacrifice.
¹ the key lesson imo being EVERYONE LOVES NON-RANDOM SHIT not that we want a plot on rails, but assigning things to suit players is fine and extremely interesting!! The players' superpowers were THE most interesting session of the whole series, please Grian it's okay to play to the strengths & interests of your friends on purposed

The thing that pisses me off the most about the inhibitor chip retcon is that they act as if Order 66 is the primary directive while attributing the rest to a vague ✨️Mindcontrol✨️ obedience. The way TCW introduced the whole deal with Tup immediately trying to kill any Jedi in sight when his chip malfunctions was so incredibly stupid to me.
How does a "malfunction" like that even work? Why would it specifically trigger that response and not also any of the other contingency orders, like, I don't know, the one that has them blowing up an entire planet or arresting everyone in the room.
Yes, the clones' main purpose was as an effectively cruel way to kill 99.9% of germs Jedi but that was... hardly all of it. They're an intrinsic part of the imperial machine; there's a reason so many orders exist and that reason is control. If Palpatine only wanted to get rid of the Jedi, he could've just invested in assassins or a nuke, but that wasn't the point.
It's meant to be systematic. It's about how easily a democracy can slip into fascism simply by taking one step after another. That's why I personally preferred the idea of the clones being indoctrinated into following these orders; they were quite literally made and raised to think that way. They serve as the deliberate template that would help shape the galaxy in a way where soon enough willing participants would continue to take their place.
Pushing all of that off on a conventional mindcontrol chip just feels cheap and undermines the whole idea of how anyone could end up thinking that way. How despite all of their individuality and differences, at large, the clones still follow the same orders, the same expectations. And how much more meaningful it is when you question it and consciously choose to break away from it. To fight it.

[Insert "A corpo and a nomad walk into a desert" joke here].
ölakshdfasjfhdsdfh hi, I'm Elven, and I'm becoming increasingly addicted to making longass VP comics uwu (and loving every second of it, let's be real XD)
This one has been on my "wanna do" list forever - or at the very least since @pinkyjulien trusted me with his boy 💛 Thank you so much for letting me take Valentin on some unexpected adventures!!
The thing is, I had always wondered if and how these two could ever meet (and also if they could ever become friends, because let's be honest, they're from very different worlds.... or are they 👀 alköasdhfdf I'm already saying too much, there is a part two that will follow in a separate post, but I'll link it below once it's here)
[Part Two - now here :D]
But yes!! Nothing better than fateful meetings at unexpected times :D And I hope I'll have Vince as an NPV somewhere down the line as well to send him on some adventures of his own!
Also, some BTS from a while ago for everyone who read this far:

Oh. Just thought of something
Gonna compare Max and Maggie's backstories
Max:
- family that hated him for his superpowers
- attempt on life as a baby renegades didn't know of in advance
- survives thanks to renegades (right place right time)
- grows up with a loving family, and despite there being a wall between him and his brother and other dad for the longest time, he's loved, he's wanted
- dislikes his superpower, it makes his life worse
Maggie:
- family that loves her and cares for her deeply, would've loved her even with powers
- attempt on life as a baby renegades promised to prevent but (due to unforseen circumstances) failed to
- survives thanks to her powers
- grows up without being identified as Evie, in a children's home commonly thought of as a Prodigy Dumping Ground for parents who don't want their superpowered children, she's not loved she's unwanted
- likes (?) her superpower, uses it frequently as part of her survival, good at surviving belief, she comes off as proud of her abilities imo, powers have made her life better (in some ways.. her thief track record is her own fault)
Just. Thinking about how when put side by side, you'd think Maggie would have ended up being adopted by the Everharts if circumstances were just slightly different. Cuz, Maggie HAS a loving family and ends up at the prodigy dumping ground. Max does NOT and ends up adopted by the Everharts
And it makes sense, Max was what? Two weeks old when his parents threw him into the river? He was there first AND had an incredibly dangerous/valuable power that only the Renegades would be equipped to solve
But at the same time, had it not been for those factors, the Renegades promised the Artino's safety, at least Nova and Evie. Maggie SHOULD have been identified as Evie, the baby part of that loving family the Renegades swore to protect. She never should have ended up at the children's home. Had Max's powers been different, you'd think the place's they ended up would have been different
But you know what? It turned out well in the end for them to be in the places they ended up. Without Max and his power, who knows how the trilogy would have gone down, who knows if the Supernova would have happened, Ace's second attempt been sucessful
And wouldn't that all be such a joy for Maggie to find out.
So, guess what. Here's this amazing cute boy who you've never noticed before, okay? He. Saves all of Gatlon. He uses Ace Anarchy's powerful and enchanting helmet to save the day; give everyone powers and reconstruct the city. Isn't that interesting, he got to use the helmet and know how that power felt? Meanwhile you didn't? You handed it away? And not only that you got your brother your friend callum someone KILLED for it? Guess some people really are destined to be heroes, while you were destined to be a villain. hM. interesting
Oh, but not only that, he has a wonderful and loving and LIVING family! The most famous family in the city! Maybe even the country! Now guess what, you ALSO had a wonderful, loving family. Didja know that?? The renegades PROMISED to keep you all together, PROMISED to protect you! And guess what, they didn't. They didn't AND failed to keep an EYE on your fucking "corpse". But you already knew that! You already knew you lost your connection to your real identity! You already knew you got booted to the dumping ground for unwanted prodigies! You had to give up on waiting for your last fucking hope of your sister, or anyone AT ALL coming to get you!
You could have had it. You could have had that family instead of the Savior boy, but thank God you DIDN'T, you never could have saved the city! Your powers wouldn't even be able to compare. It would have been a mistake if the Everharts chose you instead.
...but hey. In other news, your sister is the bitch that hates you! Your sister is the girl who had the bracelet you wanted, you still want. She hates your guts. And if it couldn't get any better, your sister Replaced you! She's now the Older Sister for the Savior, the hero, the cute boy YOUR AGE who's had everything you've ever wanted. She chose him, she's there for him, during the time she knew YOU she couldnt stand you. They have a closer bond than you would have EVER stood a chance to have with her.
Isn't that lovely? Isn't that cool! Isn't that cruel...
And she can't even FAULT Max! ...rationally. He never ASKED for this! Getting to know him, she'd know he had no CHOICE but to stay in his prison! Or else he'd could be used and could hurt many people. His superpowers were a curse, and he's lucky to be alive. The Renegades got there in time but he wasn't even able to fully ENJOY having this loving family for the first 10 years of his life! They were there but she can't help but deeply relate to Max for not really having them, always just out of reach.
The more I think about them the more reasons I find for Maggie to envy and maybe even resent Max so much over time. I wonder if she'd ever wish she never met Max, never got to know him, never got to ask her questions, because then she could hate him without any guilt, shame, and without any worry of losing the one friend she has.

gm yesterday i changed up my carrd again (surprise surprise) and clarified some things in my rules. while i absolutely adore other portrayals of the same character i write, i have never and am not going to start following blogs that are solo blade muses or multis heavily centered around a blade muse. i really want to avoid accidental similarities.
