Nagato: I … I left everyone alone for several hours. I expected to come back and find the place in ruins. But … no fires, no floods, nothing blown up, nobody trying to tear each other apart …

Sasori: You sound a bit tired, Leader. Why don’t you come sit down? *gestures to the table* Itachi made lemonade for everyone.

Nagato: Am … am I hallucinating —?

*Tobi runs in*

Tobi: Leader! Leader!  Tobi was visitin’ the room with the tailed beasts, and Tobi was pettin’ one, and it … it got out of the cage and ran away …

Nagato: Oh, thank God …

Nagato: Good boy, Tobi. *pats his head and walks away* Someone inform me when dinner is ready, please.

Deidara: Tobi, why did you do that, hm? Didn’t we all agree, since Leader doesn’t like to talk about his birthday, that we were gonna be on our best behavior as a gift??

Tobi: Tobi knows, but if Tobi hadn’t done that, Leader would have spent all night worrying about what bad thing was gonna happen. Now Leader can relax!

Deidara: … good point, hm.

I recognize and respect that the canon has made a decision to punish the antagonist/villain for the horrible actions they have undoubtedly committed, therefore giving them their deserved "bad"/tragic ending. But given that I care for this bastard and want them to be happy, I've elected to make an AU anyway
