Saw an out of context panel of World's Finest that required me to go and find the issue because it seemed to me like Clark was about to scold Dick, but instead it was Clark scolding the random child he obtained for a few issues. But anyway what was fun about that was that Dick whispered to him, "I know you can hear me. Don't do this in front of his friends," and you know what. Clark listened. No questions asked. So I continue to adore the way Mark Waid showcases the respect and partnerships between Dick, Clark, and Bruce.

Do you ever think that in a moment of complete anger-

Bruce reaches for his son and goes “Dick-“ and Dick pulls away and snaps-

“My name is Richard!” Because that’s the name his parents gave him. 

How long do you think Bruce called him Richard, at all times reminded that Hes not Dicks father and Dick basically told him to his face that he doesn’t know him well enough to call him by the nickname. Maybe he's finally reached that point where Dick realizes how terrible of a father he is and doesn’t want him anymore. 

And how much did that one simple moment of anger come back to haunt Dick, hearing his father refuse to call him a nickname, something familiar, basically staying formal with him for years because maybe he’s finally reached the moment where he doesn’t want dick anymore.

like any time i see someone being like "dick doest have a super" WRONG

he has his uncle clark that would fly him around when he was a kid just because he thought it was so cool and probably helped him with his homework and made sure bruce wasnt being too hard on him and ahhhh

I often find myself thinking of that one person describing Phoenix and Maya's relationship as "Maya no" "Maya yes!" during investigations and "Phoenix no!" and "Phoenix yes!" during the court sections.

Never have I seen a more accurate description of their dynamic before or since, lmfao.

I'm not exactly sure how to say this, but... the 180 turn from Dick being able to read Bruce super well to Dick misunderstanding everything Bruce says/does is very interesting to me. As the Dynamic Duo, they're perfectly in sync, but once they're apart, Dick's perception of events and Bruce's perception of events start to be so far apart.

My working theory is that their split caused Dick to question if he ever really understood Bruce, or if he'd been reading him wrong the whole time. His interpretation of what Bruce is doing/saying overwhelmingly skew towards the negative too. It makes me so sad for him, to be trying to work out who he wants to be as a person and simultaneously feel like his entire history with Bruce wasn’t what he thought it was after all.

The thing that people don’t seem to understand is that Dick only realizes that the Bruce impersonators aren’t Bruce not because they say they’re proud of him, as if it’s something Bruce would never do, it’s because they say it unprompted.

Any time Bruce expresses affection, or praise, it’s a reaction. Dick solves a case. “Good work Robin.” He saves Bruce. “Thank you.” He helps people. “I’m proud of you.”

Like- When Bruce says "I'm proud of you Dick, I love you" Or whatever, Dick immediately goes "No. what. Don't say that. We'll live. we'll see each other through this we always do. You're just jealous because I'm a better fighter." Because the reason Bruce is saying all the unspoken words is because its goodbye. Dick accepts affection and praise from Bruce and knows what it sounds like when it's genuine, knows why Bruce is saying it. (in this case he refuses because his dad is saying goodbye but he still knows)

Every Bruce impersonator seems to think praise is something Bruce hands out for free, and he does, he just doesn’t throw it around without reason. They all do, under the wrong circumstances, so Dick notices.
