Reminder that the Town Hall on CNN tonight is happening instead of another Presidential debate because the Orange Chickenshit was too scared to face her.
Not that I'm complaining, I prefer Town Halls over all to debates and as a disqualified insurrectionist (fuck SCOTUS and its made-up law), Trump has no business being on the ballot, or being treated as a legitimate candidate, including participating in debates.
But it's good to remember that "Alpha Male" would-be Strong Man Trump was scared to be on a stage with Harris after the thrashing she gave him.

AN OPEN LETTER to THE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
Co-sponsor The Judicial Ethics Enforcement Act of 2024!
59 so far! Help us get to 100 signers!
A group of House Democrats, led by Reps. Melanie Stansbury, Ilhan Omar and Jamie Raskin, have introduced legislation that would strengthen oversight of the Supreme Court. I’m writing in support of it.
The Judicial Ethics Enforcement Act of 2024 would authorize the creation of an office of the inspector general to investigate allegations of misconduct in the judicial branch. The inspector general would also investigate alleged violations of the Supreme Court code of ethics, issued in November; conduct and supervise audits; and recommend changes in laws or regulations governing the judiciary. The inspector general would be required to inform the attorney general when they believe there has been a violation of federal criminal law.
Congress must pass this bill. Confidence in the Supreme Court is at an all-time low, and there’s good reason for that. Several of its justices are deeply compromised and everyone can see it.
Please co-sponsor The Judicial Ethics Enforcement Act of 2024 right away, so the provisions in it can begin to restore Americans’ faith in our highest court. Thanks.

It was a really, really good political news day today in the US (4/4/23)
For anyone who hasn't heard, not only did Trump get arrested, but also:
-We found out that the legal case against him in this prosecution (stormy daniels hush money case) is SIGNIFICANTLY stronger than people had speculated. Like, wow do they have receipts.
-In fact, the evidence was so entirely there that the new question on prime time news (well, at least on msnbc lol) is "Hey, why didn't the federal courts prosecute him for this already???)
-Trump FAILED UTTERLY in his attempts to rally mass protests and demands for "death and destruction" if he was arrested. There was no violence at the arrest at all, and as for Trump supporters? They failed to show up in any kind of numbers--reportedly only about a hundred people were protesting the arrest
-We (aka Judge Janet Protasiewicz) WON what is widely considered to be the most consequential election of 2023, a Wisconsin state supreme court election that handed control of the state supreme court to the left
-Because of that election win, it is now extremely likely that abortion will be legal in Wisconsin, and that Wisconsin won't be able to throw out electors in the 2024 presidential election
-ALSO bc of this, Wisconsin, the most gerrymandered state in the country, will probably get nonpartisan, accurate maps, which COULD FLIP THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES in 2024
-In Chicago, Brandon Johnson, union organizer and former teacher, won the election for mayor, in a decisive win progressives, esp for meaningful criminal justice reform and investment in mental health (whereas the other guy was campaigning on hiring hundreds of new cops and being super tough on crime)

Trump is allowed to steal nuclear secrets, according to a judge he himself appointing.
(don't worry too much tho, the government is 100% going to appeal the decision, the case isn't dead yet)
#politics#us politics#i hope next congress the democrats make a bunch of new laws to reform the judiciary#to prevent things like this and the far-right supreme court

the democrats long term plan cannot just be "win every election for the next several decades" without doing literally anything at all to secure votes and protect voting rights. it is shocking to me how many of y'all just play along with this and blame VOTERS instead of the people who have power and refuse to even pretend to use it
#forever thinking about nancy pelosi reading a fucking poem when the dobbs decision came down#esp when it comes to the supreme court i find it utterly fucking baffling that people are going along with the dncs plan to wait it out#they literally could at least TRY to introduce actual court reform and they wont if yall wont even ask for it#tell me why one of bidens proposals for court reform was a constitutional amendment. literally the most difficult way to do anything#like thats straight up never going to happen. and he knows that. so why suggest it????

I don't know what the best system for selecting judges is and I don't think the current system in the US is very good but given how the general public usually tends to take a very draconian view of crime and punishment I think that direct election of judges by voters is undoubtedly the worst way of doing it.
#term limits rather than lifetime appointments seems like a pretty reasonable reform#in canada there's a retirement age of 75 for at least supreme court justices#i don't agree with age limits in principle but as a way of putting some sort of term limit in place i guess its better than nothing
