"Shit," Dean murmured. "Was that a black cat?"

"Where?" Castiel asked eagerly.

"Just outside. On the sidewalk."

"Hey, what are you doing?" Dean hissed, when Castiel got out of the car, chasing after the feline. A few seconds later he came back, gently holding it in his arms.

"NO! No cats in the car! What do you think you are doing?"

"Calm down, Dean. You had creatures in here, that were way worse."

"Yeah, and I killed every single one of 'em."

Dean was furious, but Castiel just looked at him calmly, gently caressing the kitten in his lap. "You are not going to kill this one," he said.

"Yeah? And why is that?"

A faint smile curved Castiels lips. "Because you love me."

"Right now I'm not so sure about that," Dean growled, already starting the engine to finally get home. "You know they mean bad luck, right?"

"I love you too," Cas replied, that silly smile still on his face.

"Cannibalism as a metaphor for love is such an interesting narrative choice!" Until you add poc into the narrative and here come the millions of "think pieces" that either 1.) dehumanize them for the same thing their yte counterparts are praised and, sometimes, even...applauded for (eg. Yellowjackets and other supernatural media), 2.) or use it inappropriately to justify harm brought on to poc communities. But that's a conversation for another time.

“What is going on?” Thomas demanded, catching sight of the unfamiliar man standing beneath a lantern in the dark. He lifted both hands above his head as James approached but looked far from fearful as he stood his ground.

“You’re supposed to be dead,” James whispered waspishly, eyes wild.

“I know,” the man answered placatingly, using a calming tone while he looked James over from head to toe. Furtively, he looked Thomas over as well before he pursed his lips. “I’ve been looking for you.”

“Shut up,” Flint barked. He took half of a step back, pushing his shoulder into Thomas’s chest in an effort to both block him from view and protect him if De Groot attempted to attack. “I buried you on that beach, Mr. De Groot. You took a bullet to the head. Explain to me how it is that you have come to stand before me now.”

“I…I don’t know,” Mr. De Groot stammered in distracted frustration, “I came to in the ground - we all did - and returned to Nassau as soon as I could.”

“We?” Flint whispered with furrowed brows. His heart was pounding away a horse’s gallop in his chest, hands trembling even while his thumb hovered over the lock of his pistol still so unfamiliar in his hand. What the fuck was he talking about? For a brief moment of hysterical terror, he wondered if the men of The Walrus had risen to haunt him for his misdeeds.

i feel like sometimes (many times) people get realism / "if this were to happen to a real person in the real world context, then this character would experience and grapple with x, y, z" mixed up with text / what that character is actually going through in the story which is always going to be constrained by time, space, and the creator's biases and experiences

#thinking abt lucas bc if he were not written by a team of white people then yes his character would be different and have so #much more depth and he would be experiencing and going through things that the others don't #but as it stands.... he's chilling. lol.#the only time he got depth was in his book that was written by a black male author.#and tbh i don't really think it's right or fair to dog on people for saying that he's chilling bc he just.... is? like the duffers have not #touched any of the topics they could have as it pertains to being a black boy in a majority white racist small midwestern town #and the one time they did they still didn't even really touch on it fr? like somehow it wasn't abt him... even though #he was the one being attacked for being black..... and then we just never touched on that again lol #he went through all that scary ass supernatural AND real life racism shit and we don't see him struggle after #not like we see some white characters struggle #so no i don't think someone is being racist by just pointing out what's on screen. in real life shit would be mad different #but it's not real life. and what is written is so limited because this is a black character written by white people.#and tbh it applies to so much other stuff but tht jus popped into my mind like there's nothing wrong with adding to the text #but that shouldn't be confused with actually being textual..... u feel me?#and at the end he's not really chilling bc he literally almost died n had a gun pulled on him but other than that he's usually #the one chilling bc he's every other (white) character's fixer-upper. he's always the support character to help them #and advance their plots and development :/
