What did/do you like about Pharah?

Uh, gameplay-wise, I really love characters in shooters who rely on three-dimensional movement techs. Chaining together hover and jump to stay in the air for as long as possible and keep momentum is so satisfying, and picking enemies off from the sky made me feel like a bird of prey. I was a good Pharah main.

Story-wise, there unfortunately isn't much to canonically go off because Pharah is so underutilized and neglected. Her personality's pretty boilerplate "heroic hero" (she's literally inspired by Captain America).

But it's the crumbs/bits and pieces that I really latched onto. Pharah's a confirmed lesbian; her short story with Baptiste implies she harbors a crush on Mercy (fucking thank you.). She's biracial Egyptian/First Nations. She has major mommy issues, having grown up both admiring and resenting Ana. She's the bridge between Old Overwatch, inspired by the idealized heroes who surrounded her childhood, and New Overwatch. She's one of the only inter-generational characters in the cast; someone whose experiences span the gap, which is why I seriously believe Pharah would make a great main character.

There isn't much to go off of, though; she's a very uncomplicated character (she's a soldier for a private military corporation, lol.). But that just means she's a blank slate character, so I've seen fanfic writers run wild and create some really interesting takes on her. My favorite interpretation of her's a dense, herbo gym-bro type (a lot of her liens are about work outs, exercising, and playing sports) who's easily excitable under her seemingly self-serious, armored visage. We see how she tends to gloat and hype herself up when she's on a streak too, so Pharah definitely has a competitive and boastful side under her more professional and militant performance.

Now Mercy? Mercy is a real complex character.

Mikan never had any interest in learning to snowboard. Even when she had started to work for the local Ski Patrol, her work was in the aid room, not on the mountain - just a little extra use of her nursing skills, in a setting where she can volunteer alongside her friends. She was so clumsy she'd never even considered learning - not skiing like Mahiru or snowboarding like Ibuki. She just wasn't suited for it.

That was before Akane Owari.

To say Akane was a sensation wasn't quite right. She was certainly a sensation to Ibuki, who actually kept up with pro snowboarding and insisted that Akane would be an Olympic favorite if she just had any desire to go to the Olympics. But Ibuki thought lots of people were great that no one else had even heard of. Despite that, even Hiyoko had been excited when they got the news Akane was visiting Hope's Mountain Peak.

"No stupid pig is keeping me from seeing her in action," Hiyoko had announced to the group when deciding to watch her come down from the bottom of the stunt park. And that was Hiyoko's way of saying "Mikan should come, she'd really like it."

So there Mikan was, in the frosty 9 AM air, standing at the bottom of the mountain. "It's cold, huh?" Mahiru asked sympathetically, and Mikan nodded, stuttering - for once, not because of nerves, but because of her teeth chattering - "H-how long until she c-comes down?"

Just as Mahiru opened her mouth, another snowboarder crested the ridge. There were probably fifty people visible on the mountain, but this one demanded attention; she came into view in the middle of a flip, landing facing downhill on a rail. Slips, slides, weaving and bobbing - distantly, Mikan could hear Ibuki and Hiyoko whooping next to her, but all that Mikan could think about was the lines that snowboard carved in the snow.

At the bottom of the hill, Akane Owari pulled to a stop. And when she pulled up her goggles to talk to her coach, Mikan Tsumiki decided she needed to learn to snowboard.

What do you think of NorFin?

I think it's a nice pairing! Not something I often explore myself as I don't really have a lot of personal experiences, connections, or references to Finland and there's not really that historical aspect that often draw me towards ship. However, Finns and Norwegians do have many common values and interests, especially when it comes to nature and outdoorsy life, so I can see how the ship is appealing to people. At the very least they are good friends in modern day.
