Emilia Clarke and her mother were formally awarded their MBEs at Windsor Castle.
Emilia Clarke, known for starring in the fantasy series Game of Thrones, and her mother have received their MBEs from Prince William at Windsor Castle. The pair were named in the New Year Honours list for services to people with brain injuries. Emilia suffered two brain haemorrhages in her 20s, then set up the SameYou charity in 2019 with mum Jenny. Speaking after the ceremony, the actress said the award had given her "such a boost of energy and momentum". [ ... ] Running a charity "is one of the hardest things I've had to do," Emilia told the PA news agency on Wednesday, adding that she was spurred on by the memory of feeling "ill-equipped to be a normal person" after surviving her haemorrhages. She said she was pleased to have received her MBE and had "underestimated the magical nature" of the process. Emilia also commended William, Prince of Wales - who led the investiture - for making both her and Jenny feel comfortable.
King Charles is being treated for cancer so Crown Prince William made these award presentations.

Emilia got along much better with the future King William V than Daenerys did with Queen Cersei.

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT | Same you Fundraising 2023!
I am one of those who have followed the mission of the SAMEYOU charity from the very beginning and I am very proud of it! I "survived" a brain injury, after a "car-pedestrian" accident in 2012! I have permanent sequels, in part because I haven't received the help, resources and support to regain some of my abilities. A poor understanding of this condition, but especially the too many obstacles to get out of this hell, makes me particularly sensitive to this cause that is close to my heart. Even in a country considered “progressive”, victims of head trauma are neglected. If it hadn't been for my mother, I wouldn't be here to testify... In 2022 I experienced the pangs of an AIT, then a second time, a month ago. My mother had two small strokes a few years ago and one of my aunts died of a ruptured aneurysm at the age of 42. I am therefore participating in this new challenge "You are what you eat", in the hope of contributing to change, of offering the chance to others to obtain the support that my loved ones and I haven't had and to make people aware of this reality that many people have or will have. Cooking/baking is a brand new passion for me. Having major health problems, I had to find new hobbies (yep again! 😅) and cooking became a way for me to express my creativity. Without pretension and without pressure! I don't have any particular talent apart from curiosity (But that's all I need). With inflation and my limited budget, I have to renew myself, be imaginative and turn to new avenues! This is my personal challenge! 💪 I would have some inspirations to help me and I intend to discover others in my little adventure! Don't hesitate to share and give as much as you can! 🧡✌ DONATE HERE: https://www.sameyou.org/you_are_what_you_eat_donation_page?recruiter_id=46899

Looking at snappers and bogsneaks to determine with full certainty how much popularity Any Fat Dragon Ever may have (which, full disclosure, is not what I think staff is doing) is flawed by default imo, because:
Lbr snappers are. not great?? Like i know some ppl go rabid about them (tho half the time that seems like it's more about rooting for the underdog than the actual breed?) but like. their primary/secondary distribution Sucks, if you wanna see the secondary pretty much at all/want any sort of balance, you're better off getting either a bog or giving up on your fat dragon dreams
And bog breed changes Suck Absolute Ass To Craft. A Lot of ppl are gonna look at that and decide that, you know what? Literally any breed aside from coatls and wildclaws is better for your sanity/wallet to scry things as. And while bog eggs exist, noc (and depending on your playstyle, even elemental) eggs are much easier to get and will continue to dominate the g1 statistics for the rest of time
I'm not saying you can't talk about design same-y-ness or fatphobia when talking about fat dragon popularity, but I feel like just saying "there's only 350k snappers on the site (which is still! A Very Large Number!) bc everyone except me and my three mutuals hates fat dragons :(" is maybe ignoring part of the picture?
(This is not @ anyone in specific, I just saw a couple posts that reminded me that I wanted to make this one)
#chatter tag#basically: the sameyness sucks but the fact that our current fat options do too does Not help

I've been super sick all week and it turns out all I needed to recover was for Andy Samberg to brave his bum knee to come hang out with his bestie, while dressed in an outfit that screamed 'Joanna Newsom's husband', pitch the most hilarious talkshow segments in television history, giggle helplessly at Fred Armisen's 'impression' of him, then hit the wall so hard that he thought he was going to pass out on national television!
(Not to mention the little kiss he gave Seth 😍💔)

Because they are inherently exclusive in their conception of statehood and citizenship, all nation-states will contain minority populations which exist as an existential threat to the State's ideological roots and agreed upon mythology. Under the best of circumstances, the majority will handle this minority with condescending interest and concern; under the worst, shit will go to ethnic cleaning and/or genocide places very fucking fast. This is not something exclusive to the Third Reich, or Myanmar, or Turkey, or Indonesia, or Bhutan, or China etc; this is a problem at the very heart of the construct of the nation-state.
Israel, Palestine, Anti-Semitism, the Nation-State, and You
I'm going to try to turn my anger and frustration into action. I've abstained from making a post like this for a long time because I really don't enjoy posting or about or discussing this topic, but, we've reached a moment of such intense anti-Semitism that I think it's my duty, as a Holocaust historian, and as someone with an advanced degree in Modern Jewish History, to say something. I'm going to use bullet points.
- Jewish people in leftist and pro-Palestine spaces who inform others that their speech has anti-Semitic undertones aren't trying to silence you; they're asking you to please not make the space actively unsafe for them because they WANT to stay and do this work. Anti-Semitism is part of the intellectual heritage of the West, and all the places the West has colonized. It is part of the language, the speech, the literature, often in ways it's hard for non-Jews to grasp. When Jews hear it and see it, they're trying to educate you so these spaces can stay safe and accessible to them; please listen.
- The "Zionists" aren't getting celebrities who speak out against the IDF's war crimes in Gaza fired from projects because "they" control Hollywood and the media. Those celebrities were spewing anti-Semitism veiled as criticism of Israel, and it's absolutely just that they face consequences. I wish all public figures who spew bigoted bullshit faced consequences like these. Susan Sarandon, for example, said the following at a rally in New York: “There are a lot of people afraid of being Jewish at this time, and are getting a taste of what it feels like to be a Muslim in this country, so often subjected to violence.”
This isn't courageous pro-Palestinian speech. This is very very blatant anti-Semitic rhetoric, in which Jews are viewed as an internal enemy; a hive-mind inherently more loyal to each other than the state; and who must suffer collectively for any act perpetrated by any Jew. Hitler talked like this. Henry Ford talked like this. The White Russians talked like this. Just because Susan Sarandon is too willfully ignorant to understand why what she said was deeply violent and anti-Semitic, doesn't mean that it wasn't anti-Semitic. To the contrary, these words do not simply condone violence against Jews, but incite it. That doesn't help Palestinians. To the contrary, it creates situations where Jews may feel that they have no other option but to....flee to Israel...as happened to much of Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) Jewry during the second half of the twentieth century.
- Jews talking about the Holocaust, their historical experiences, and their intergenerational trauma is not political speech. It is not about Palestine, or Israel, until someone else decides to make it about Palestine, or Israel. Further, the realness of that trauma does not exist counter to the trauma experience by Palestinians. It does not cancel out the traumatic experiences of Palestinians, and vice versa. Both traumatic experiences simply exist. The Jew who barely survived Auschwitz and the death marches and made their way--sobbing and broken--to the Promised Land when they had nowhere else to go; and the Palestinian Arab, who spent centuries living on and cultivating that land, only to be violently expelled from their property and forced to live as a landless refugee within a State built on their ancestral land but not created for them, who now exist in silently damning photographs of Palestinian elders holding keys to properties which no longer exist...they are both real.
These experiences exist, and not in contradiction to each other. As educated, informed people, our place is not to fight over which trauma mattered more or was worse, or happened in the first place, but simply to accept that both experiences happened and were real. Are real. Very few things in this Conflict are easy or simple, and the only option for anyone who wants to move forward is to learn to hold those contradictions together in your head as equally true.
- All Israelis are as much a Netanyahu-loving Arab-hating group of nationals, as all U.S. Americans are a Trump-loving POC-hating group of nationals. A lot of Israelis are DEEPLY unhappy with the war, Netanyahu, and his handling of Palestinians, and have been for a VERY long time. Netanyahu has been openly engaging in criminal acts, and working to undermine Israel's democracy, for YEARS now. Further, Israel has a HUGE number of active political parties; at least 13 active right now, for a country with the population of ~9,813,920. It is a Parliamentary system, meaning that the party in charge is not the party which wins the majority of votes, but which wins the largest PROPORTION of votes. A majority of Israelis don't need to have voted for Netanyahu's party (Likud) for his party to have won the majority of seats in the Knesset.
Moreover, if all Israelis WERE just like that first line of this bullet point's first sentence, why should American Jews be held responsible for that? Why is this belief in Jews as a collective hive-mind still so prevalent?
- "None of this matters; all Jews should know better based on their historical experiences and any Jew who supports Israel is basically a Nazi." Yeah. A lot to unpack.
First of all, no one is born having been educated and and encouraged to engage in critical thought about their past(s). That's a choice. Jews are, before anything else, people, and they, like all people, must choose to grow, learn, and change. They, like you, can choose to learn from the past, or just sprint forward without critical thought. Like you. Like anyone. Like everyone.
Now, for the next part....non-Jews really like using Hitler/Third Reich/Holocaust comparisons in relation to Israel and Palestine. Let's break this down to what it actually is. Israel and Nazi Germany are both examples of a nation-state. They are also VERY FAR from the only examples of a nation-state. Indonesia is a nation-state (which is actively committing genocide in West Papua, and which actively committed genocide in East Timor). China (which is engaged in genocidal activity against its Uighur population) is/wants to be a nation state. Poland, Norway, Croatia, Serbia, Bhutan (which has been ethnically cleansing its Lhotshampa, or ethnic Nepali, minority since the 1980s), Myanmar (Rohingya genocide), Rwanda, Iran, Armenia, Iraq, Azerbaijan, Turkey; these are ALL nation-states.
The nation-state--a type of polity which exists for a singular ethno-national group based on the understanding that that ethno-national group has long term historical roots in that particular geographic area--is an inherently exclusive type of political organization, and very much a product of modernity. This is not something exclusive to the Third Reich, or Myanmar, or Turkey, or Indonesia, or Bhutan, or China, etc; this is a problem at the very heart of the construct of the nation-state. All nation-states.
The fact that a certain portion of critics of Israel choose specifically Nazi Germany and the Holocaust as comparisons for Israeli policy towards Palestine again and again and again says, to me, that this is a person who a. knows that invoking that comparison will deeply disturb all Jews around; and b. will use that Jewish distress as "proof" that "all Jews" are evil Zionists who hate Palestine and use Holocaust memory as a tool of ideological violence.
It is transparent, ignorant, and offensive.
LIST OVER
If you are angry or defensive or wanting to unfollow me or respond with righteous indignation after reading this, it may be because you are an anti-Semite, and are suffering from cognitive dissonance based on the fact that you believe that you are a good person with no bigoted beliefs. The good news, is that you can use your negative emotions to learn, and grow a more complex understanding of all the contradictory truths at the heart of all this. I would love to be able to HELP you learn. This blog is a space I hope is open and welcome for everyone, Jewish, Palestinian, and otherwise, because everyone deserves access to history, and an understanding of how history works. This is not a space, however, which will ever strive to make anti-Semites feel good about themselves, or their beliefs.
If you're mad because you think material contained in this post makes me a "self-hating Jew," let's talk offline, starting with your grandparents and Hebrew School teachers.
#i have been thinking daily of 1 samuel 8. the 'give us a king so that we may be a nation like other nations'#the deep ambivalence and warning about Being Like Other Nations (whatever the construct of Other Nations are at any moment in time)#(it's never 'right' and just. it's always a mix between naked wish to be the boot and not the bug and sympathetic wish to survive and a#path of least resistance decay into abuse and sameyness instead of creative possibilities of other ways of being. but it's def never unique#my indian mutual was recently giving me some links to the partition of india and indian nationalism in the immediate wake of independence#op u might be interested in that history and the dynamics there and it's comparisons if you’re not already familiar with it#antisemitism#history#long post#i think the one thing i personally disagree with about this post is the idea the third bullet point about being contradictions that's hard#to hold simultaneously. it's imo perfectly congruous and mutually reinforcing symptoms that flow into each other. not contradict. but i#know most ppl don't think of it that way

Emilia Clarke’s mother has described how her daughter’s brain haemorrhage changed the Clarke family “in an instant”.
Jenny Clarke said it feels like her daughter’s brain haemorrhage – a bleed on the brain – “feels like yesterday” even though it was more than a decade ago.
The incident, which took place when Clarke was working out in a north London gym in 2011, was “completely out of the blue”, Mrs Clarke said.
She said her daughter fought to stay conscious even though she was in “the worst pain she could ever imagine”.
Mrs Clarke told PA: “It feels like yesterday to us really, because it was just such a profound shock.
“She had just started Game Of Thrones, the first season had been filmed and she had just come back from a press tour.
“And then she had her first brain haemorrhage which was completely out of the blue – it was a morning in March and she was in the gym and she suddenly felt this terrible pain in her head – she’s been quoted as saying it was the worst pain she could ever imagine.
“She also realised that something was seriously wrong with her because the pain was so intense.
“So she did her best, as she was lying semi-unconscious on the floor of the gym, to try and make sure she kept a sense of what was around her and she fought to make sure that she didn’t lose consciousness.”
Mrs Clarke added: “When she was rushed to a hospital in London, it was very difficult to establish what has happened to her – and that’s also something that we think is very important; maybe there isn’t enough specialist information and training to actually recognise what happens when you have a brain haemorrhage when you’re young.
“People expect people to have strokes and brain haemorrhages when they’re older, it’s a problem of older age, but Emelia was 23 when she had her first brain haemorrhage, so people didn’t recognise it as a brain haemorrhage.
“So it took a long time before she was admitted to the wonderful Queen Square (the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery), which is part of University College London Hospitals and literally her life was saved because of an intervention to stop the bleeding.
“But it was three weeks in hospital before we knew whether she was going to have another stroke, and whether she would have different health problems as a result of the brain haemorrhage.”
She added: “Rehabilitation is undervalued and under-prioritised and that’s clearly got to change as a key component of universal health coverage.
“It was such a shock when it happened to us, when Emilia had her brain injury.
“We’ve had thousands of people write to us, and so it’s not just our own lived experience, there’s just not enough provision, not enough services available.

Her character didn't last long as Queen of Westeros, but King Charles III has awarded Emilia Clarke and her mum MBEs.
Actress Emilia Clarke has said the MBEs awarded to both her and her mother in the New Year Honours are "amazing" for raising awareness about brain injuries. The Game of Thrones star suffered two brain haemorrhages in her 20s, then set up a charity in 2019 with mum Jenny. They have now been appointed MBEs for services to people with brain injuries. "I can say for both of us that the MBE is for the cause and the charity, and for that it's wicked. For that it's amazing," Emilia told BBC News. "And who doesn't want to go to the palace? I've asked if I can take my dog, but apparently you can't." The pair are believed to be the first mother and daughter to receive the same award in the same honours list. Emilia, 37, said it was "a miracle" that she was here to talk about the haemorrhages she suffered in 2011 and 2013. The first happened when she was at the gym just after she had finished filming season one of Game of Thrones, and left her fighting for her life. But she said she discovered there was inadequate support and rehabilitation after leaving hospital. "In hospital, every day you're told you're going to die. Every day you're watched like a hawk, especially in a brain ward. You're woken up every two hours. It's this high-stakes scenario. And then three weeks to a month later, you're let out."
Apparently there had not previously been a charity to assist people who suffered brain injuries.
The pair set up SameYou, with Jenny - who has also previously had brain surgery to remove an aneurysm - as chief executive. "We realised that very few people had access to long enough rehabilitation or early enough rehabilitation," Jenny said. "You are expected to get better after a certain period, and that, sadly, is not the reality for the majority of people. Even if you have a very mild brain injury, it's a really major trauma." Support for brain conditions is a long way behind that for some diseases, and "brain injury and recovery need to be taken much more seriously" - including by the government, she said. SameYou has funded projects like a trial of pioneering online neurorehabilitation called NROL, in Lancashire, as well as work with University College London and the Royal College of Nursing Foundation.
Here's the site for SameYou.

I always hesitate to give voice to the desire I feel towards women because of the way I've seen what attraction to women is "supposed" to look like, and what I feel is Not That. it's been said before but men really do like women in such an uninteresting way; they brush out any "imperfections". trim off all the fat, the muscle, the body hair, the wrinkles, the sun spots, the scars, the sweat, the color. All that I'm left with to try and feel attracted to is a stick thin white girl with one of Three hairstyles that can Only pose in a way that makes her look smaller or more provocative. It's a dead-eyed caricature and I feel nothing but pity for her
#for the love of god give me an action movie starring a dyke#Personal#i have some facial blindness so the sameyness between all these skinny women really confuses me if theres more than one
