i don't really like when people say dungeon meshi is accidentally good autistic representation, because while i understand not wanting to make conclusions without explicit confirmation from the author, there's always the weird assumption that non-western authors somehow don't know about things like neurodivergency/queerness/etc. (on top of the assumptions that east asian authors are somehow more naive or oblivious to "western" social issues).

given that dungeon meshi started being published in 2014, it's not really a "work belonging to its times"—it's as contemporary as any other media we discuss on this site, which means it should be fair to assume it engages with contemporary topics (and at the very least, you shouldn't say that the representation is accidental with so much confidence)

but anyways, the chapter "perfect communication" in ryoko kui's "terrarium in a drawer" is some of the most straightforward autistic representation I've seen, and from now on I'm going to assume that laios's character writing is absolutely intentional in that regard:

Il faut bien commencer quelque part

Avec l'automne qui commence, il me vient l'envie de parler. Cette saison est pour moi celle du renouveau, bien plus que les autres saisons. Le commencement du dépouillement de la nature, cette mue qu'elle commence, la préparation de se régénération. Pour moi, c'est de là que commence le renouveau. Quand il se prépare tout doucement et de manière incongrue.

On en le voit comme on le souhaite ce renouveau, ce début de quelque chose qu'on ne connait pas encore.

Il y a un an commençait ma déchéance, ma chute vers les plus profond de mon âme.

Là aussi c'était le début de quelque chose que je ne connaissais pas encore.

Aujourd'hui, il me reste l'amertume de l'avoir vécu, comme une trace qui ne partira jamais vraiment, qui s'estompera et dont l'écho raisonnera encore parfois.

C'est surtout la colère qui m'anime encore. Ce relent miteux, acre, et vicieux. A vrai dire, elle a toujours été là. Ca aussi c'est une trace et elle ne partira jamais pour sûre.

I had a new "oh, my family were the weird ones" moment recently: it seems no one else's family celebrated Frog Night (the first warm rainy night of spring) by going down to the local vernal pool after dark to help the amphibians safely across the road and listening to the spring peepers. (We'd then go back in daytime later on to observe the egg masses, of course.)

Apparently "Frog Night" as a holiday is a thing my mother invented and not a widely-accepted idea, which is a shame because I've been referring to it as if it was for the past 30 years.
