My hate for love triangles stemmed from me reading Keeper of the Lost Cities in 5th grade and loving Sophitz until I found out they weren’t endgame and it pissed me off so bad (I hate being wrong) that to this day I feel bitter about it
#I’m stubborn okay#I was mad that Fitz wasn’t the right choice#i felt betrayed at the time okay#I read kotlc in two weeks for a book report and my teacher had a to read about a fifth grader ranting about a love triangle#that’s where the love triangle hate started#so imagine when I read pjo and Rachel started becoming a potential love interest…#I was like not again because I won’t recover this time#kotlc#kotlc ships#sophitz#sokeefe#I am now a sokeefe shipper#after years#took some time but we got there#sophie foster#fitz vacker#kotlc fitz#keefe sencen#kotlc keefe#I have a page on an old notebook of me defending sophitz#if I find it I’ll post it#and then burn the page#sophie x fitz#sophie x keefe#love triangles#love triangle#percabeth botl#keeper of the lost cities#kotlc opinions#kotlc tumblr

All this book complaining made me realize I haven't really read anything aside from fun YA series and required classics for uni- and I miss reading. Do you have any recommendations? Stuff you like?
Yeah here are a few books I’ve read recently and enjoyed (fair warning—I read a lot of nonfiction and it’s 1am and I’m going from memory here):
No Country For Old Men by Cormac McCarthy
Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe
Hits, Flops, and Other Illusions by Ed Zwick
The Wager by David Grann
The Lost City of Z by David Grann
A Storm of Witchcraft by Emerson Baker
Midnight in Chernobyl by Adam Higginbotham
All of Carrie Fisher’s memoirs (she reads the audiobook versions so I recommend those)
In Cold Blood by Truman Capote
Prequel by Rachel Maddow
Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie (an Agatha Christie book is great to dive into whenever I get out of the habit of reading regularly)

i was in my bathroom, brushing my teeth, when dread filled my body and i realized… or rather had a premonition… that i think shannon is going to give keefe a conflicting love interest in unraveled 😭😭😭
IM SORRY IF SOMEONE ELSE HAS TALKED ABT THIS (pls tell me who if they have bc i wanna see what they think)
but i feel like its gonna be like a rachel dare x percy jackson type dynamic, where this mortal/human piques keefe’s interest and is maybe one of his first friends in the forbidden cities, or maybe she inadvertently knows smth about gisela or I DONT KNOW but something.
and when i say rachel dare i mean i am imagining EXACTLY rachel dare and maybe that means im just projecting too much riordan on this book but
picture the rejection. the way it would bring him back to sophie. to SOPHIE’s jealousy, especiallyyy now that they’ve confessed (now im just projecting annabeth here 😭) BUT PLS TELL ME YALL SEE THE VISION. especially bc it would give sophie a taste of her own medicine. oh my GOD i wanna see fitz’s reaction to her being jealous like that
this also just makes me excited for what other human characters we’re going to meet, especially if there’s a dynamic like that!! i’ve been LOVING their teenager-ness in these last couple books and i need more drama
#keeper of the lost cities#except i want this character to feel real and not just an accessory to keefe#i just think this would be fun#also#percy jackson#<— i guess?? HAHHAHA

Hey, if you're comfortable sharing, can you drop a recommendation list for non fic that you've read/listened to? I've been meaning to branch into non fiction books for a while now and your recommendations would be welcome!
Ow, friend, it really hurts when you twist my arm like that lmao.
But no really, I would love to. All of these I listened to as audiobooks from my library, so I can't promise the print versions aren't dense or hard to get through!
For Beginners: Engaging and humorous narration, broad scientific and historical appeal, fascinating subjects.
A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson. What it says on the tin, presented with a Douglas Adams-esque sense of humor. An Immense World by Ed Yong. An exploration of animals and their senses! I got a little teary eyed in places, because, like, nature is so cool???
Moderate: Harder subject matter. Be aware if you're in a fragile state.
An Indigenous Peoples' History of the United States by Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz. Overlaps with Wild New World by Dan Flores, which I read at the same time. Turns out the fate of America's native people and its native fauna were intrinsically linked, whodda thunk. Cultish: The Language of Fanaticism by Amanda Montell. If you want a book about the banana things cults have done just so you can feel superior to the people who get trapped in them, this isn't it. Montell's got an impeccable comedic beat in addition to making you stop and think. Destiny Disrupted by Tamim Ansary. A history of the world through an Islamic lens! I might be biased, bc this was what I have a degree in, but I LOVED this one. Ansary's really good at drawing parallels in the form of "so this is probably how you learned it in the West, and here's how the Middle World saw it." Goes up to the present!
Niche Topics: Because who doesn't love when experts talk about the things they love and know a lot about and want to share it with you!
Paved Paradise by Henry Grabar. Parking! A whole book about parking! And it's genuinely fascinating, start to finish! Shakespeare Was a Woman and Other Fallacies by Elizabeth Winkler. Probably not news to English majors, but yo! I did not know! That Shakespeare's identity was even in contention. What else don't I know! Blowout by Rachel Maddow. The slimy history of America and oil. If you don't know, Maddow's one of those people Fox News complains about a LOT, and if that wasn't recommendation enough, she's also fantastic at telling a story. Pandora's Jar by Natalie Haynes. Women in Greek myth! Haynes writes fiction, too, and I really wish my library had more of her nonfiction, because when I finished this one, I went right back to the beginning to listen again.
By Author:
Mary Roach. You will see Mary Roach on a hundred different nonfiction rec lists. She is stellar at taking a topic and making it the most fascinating thing you'll hear about today. My library only has two of her books, so I can't tell you which one is the best yet lol. Patrick Radden Keefe. There's a lot of really good names in the reporter-turned-author category, but Keefe was the one I read the most of this year. His book on the opiod crisis (18 hours on audiobook) still sits heavy with me.
#limenmints#book recs#spotify wrapped 2024#(bc it's what i listened to instead of music lmao. for grief reasons‚ not snobby reasons.)#hope this gives you a jumping off point‚ friend!

The Lavatory scene in Red Eye's final shooting script and the movie
One of my previous posts was about how much the first script draft of Red Eye differed from the final product. The draft discussed in this post is more or less final. This draft has all the changes made after Rachel and Cillian were cast as leads and after the test screenings. But there are still some features which didn't make the cut into the final product. I'm not gonna analyse the whole script here, but shippers' favorite scene - the lavatory scene. Yeah, you can always rely on this scene to bring some juicy stuff.
SPOILERS AHEAD
Okay let's start from the moment Lisa enters the bathroom alone.
Frankly speaking, for now, I prefer the movie version. Especially the line "Okay, get up" instead of "Oh my God..." Wes Craven said in the DVD commentary about this moment:
This was tricky, between making her totally collapse, but not have her totally pathetic. And she very quickly gets herself under control.
Next, there is an interesting description of Rippner:
Also, the message on the mirror was meant to be revealed slightly earlier, but whatever.
I'm not sure about Rippner's lines here, because half of it is barely audible in the film. Also quite ironic that the underlined part is not in the movie at all.
Okay, now really important stuff starts kicking in. Rippner practically spills out the fact that he is ATTRACTED to Lisa right at her face. The script makes it clear, that she now knows this and tries to use his attraction (and his regret) to persuade him to give up on Keefe assassination plan. Funny enough, she almost succeeds until he notices her scar. Personally, I think "You're beautiful..." line (and hair brushing) should have stayed in the final cut. Not only for the sake of the ship, but for the fact that without it Lisa's "You don't have to do this" sounds really naive.
Some of you may argue that this is all relevant for the movie, they just made it more subtle. Well, Movie-Lisa's best guess that Movie-Rippner might be attracted to her is the way Cillian looks at Rachel. On one hand many people point out that they do have chemistry and sexual tension, on the other the movie on its own leaves watchers to wonder whether the characters had any romantic feelings towards each other or not. And I probably stumbled upon a comment on YouTube, which interpreted the "You don't have to do this" line more as "You're so pretty, why do you have to be evil?" (or something along these lines)
Also I think that clarification would make Lisa a more nuanced character (by the fact that she tries to manipulate a villain into giving up on his villainy).
Also, as you may have noticed, the scar was meant to be on her neck, makes sence, given her backstory (He held a knife to my throat). I guess they moved it down just so Rippner wouldn't notice it earlier (though the script also mentions, that Lisa was meant to wear a sweater). I, personally, on the back of my horny mind, think he wasn't looking for scar when he gazed on her breast ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).
A little note: Script-Lisa looks away saying "No" while Rachel looks straight into his eyes, but starts trembling instead.
By the way, Rippner wasn't meant to slam and choke her just yet.
I guess he just let her out to wipe out the messege. Here Lisa gives up on conving him.
Only after he finished wiping he starts to choke her. Also, pay CLOSE ATTENTION on what Rippner's lips do here ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). Yep, he almost kisses her.
I guess the changes movie made here were for the sake of pacing.
Another important difference: Rippner fixes both their outlooks to be more presentable. Lisa protests a bit.
I guess the movie crew decided they don't need to fix their look that much.
Also, I prefer the movie's "Peachy" instead of just "Good", though both lines are in the movie lol.
On the final note, I guess "Thanks for the quickie" line makes a bit more sence given we have Rippner's crawling lips there ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).
So, these were the differences of the lavatory scene between the script and the movie. Hope you had as much shipping excitement as I did.
P.S: The link to the script. If you're a fan I strongly suggest to download it, it may easily become a lost media, like an earlier draft.

Chapter Sixty-nine
(Human AU)
Sophie and Keefe met in the children's hospital when they were little. Because of how long they were confined to the four walls of the hospital, they became very close during their stay.
As the years pass, they wind up being in the same classroom together due to their physical conditions. This makes their bond deepen.
But are they able to handle when life gets tough, throwing problems and complications their way?
(Don't play song until queued)
Sophie was folding up the blankets. It was the night of prom. Once she was finished, her plan was to go pick up Keefe so they could go out for dinner.
Except there was a knock in the door. Before she could go anf awnser it, the door opened. She froze. Surely, someone wouldn't be that stupid enough to break in like that.
She let out a breath when she saw it was Keefe. But... he was in a suit. And how did he get there? He wasn't supposed to be driving yet.
"What are you doing?" She asked.
"Well," a smirk spread across his face. He revealed a bouquet of flowers from behind his back. "I wanted to ask you, will you be my date to prom?"
Her jaw went slack. A million different questions and responses swam around in her brain.
The only thing she could manage to get out of her mouth was, "Did the doctor say you could?"
"Weeeell." He scratched the back of his neck. "I may not have asked."
"Keefe!" She scolded. He gave a guilty grin. "You know you could set yourself back."
"Yeah, but... I couldn't let myself be why you didn't go."
She stepped up to him and adjusted the color of his white undershirt. "I swear, I really don't mind not going. I just want to make sure that you don't do something that could hurt yourself right now."
She gently traced where she knew his scar was. He stared at her hand. He took it and brought it up to his lips, placing a kiss on her knuckles.
"I'll be alright for one night, Foster. It's not like my heart is just going to decide it'll quit working the second we step into the room. I promise."
Sophie had to shove the awful images of him unconscious in the hospital out of her brain. "If I recall correctly, the last time you promised me something along those lines, you ended up half dead the next morning."
"Yeah, but there's one key difference here." He brushed her hair back. "I was trying to convince myself that I was fine then, too. Everything is still a bit achy, but that's how it's supposed to be. I swear, I'm able to handle it. So, what do you say, ready for this?"
Her heart swelled. She loved him so much. And the fact he went out of his way to plan all of this for her while he was still in, expected, pain. Her eyes started to well with tears of affection.
"Oh, Keefe," she whispered when he offered her the flowers again. "But... it's already started. And I'm not ready yet."
He shrugged. "Fashionably late is a phrase for a reason."
"What am I supposed to wear, though?"
"Try looking behind you."
She glanced over her shoulder. Grady and Edaline were lurking in the hallway. They had a red dress in their hands. It matched the color of Keefe's tie. They also had a set of rose corsages.
"I may or may not have recruited them to help me surprise you," Keefe informed her.
The tears spilled over. She fell into his arms he held out for her.
When she got her sniffles under control, she murmured, "You didn't have to do this."
"I know I didn't." He stroked her hair and kissed her head. "But you've been taking care of me lately. I wanted to do something nice back."
The tears started back.
"So, are we gonna do this?" He asked
Sophie nodded, swiping at her eyes. She let Edaline help her into the dress and do her hair and makeup.
When she was finished, Edaline kissed her forehead. "You got yourself a good one, there."
She smiled. "Yeah, I did, didn't I?" She agreed.
After pinning each other's corsages on, they went out on the front steps for a picture. Keefe insisted on taking off his oxygen for the picture, much to Sophie's displeasment. But it was over in two minutes, and he put it back on immediately after. That made her feel better about it.
"So question," she finally asked Keefe. "How did you get here. Cause you aren't supposed to be driving yet."
"Don't worry, I didn't drive myself," he told her as they were walking out to the garage. "Say hi to our chauffeur for tonight." He waved at Ro.
They got driven to the school and dropped off at the front of the gym. The room was decorated in streamers and balloons. Dance music was playing.
Sophie could already tell Keefe was getting sore from being upright. She squeezed his hand.
"Wanna go find somewhere to sit?" She asked.
He nodded. "I want to be by the snack table, though."
She laughed. "I don't blame you."
They found a pair of seats near the punch. They each took a cup to sip on. They laughed and joked with each other until Biana passed by the table.
Biana paused. "Sophie? Keefe? I didn't realize you guys were coming."
"Yeah, I didn't either until forty-five minutes ago," Sophie told her.
"Huh. Well, you guys should come dance!"
Keefe cringed. Sophie figured that probably wasn't the best idea for him.
"You should go," he told her. "I'll be fine here."
"You sure?" It didn't feel right leaving him there on his own.
"Yeah, go have fun."
She hesitated before getting up and crossing across the gymnasium floor. She felt a little less guilty when dex took the empty seat she left behind, striking up a conversation.
She the rest of the night she went back and forth from dancing with Biana and Linh to occasionally going to hang out with Keefe.
(Play song)
That was until the last song of the dance started. The announcer said that there was a request for what the final song should be. She knew exactly who suggested it when Keefe came over from his spot to hold a hand out to her.
"May I have this dance," he said with his smirk.
She took it and gave an over-dramatic curtsy. "You may, kind sir."
She tucked her head underneath his chin, locking their hands together. He kissed the top of her head. She had her ear pressed against his chest. She could hear his heart beating. It calmed her to know that it was still working alright in there.
He twirled her around and ended it off in a dip. She would've smacked him for even attempting to do it, when he knew he shouldnt, if it hadn't happened so fast. He knew exactly what he did, because he gave her a guilty smile. She rolled her eyes, but she had to laugh.
Sophie nuzzled her face into his neck. He adjusted one of his hands from her shoulder, to the small of her back to hold her closer.
"I love you, Sophie," he whispered into her ear.
"I love you, too, Keefe." She squeezed a little tighter. "So much."
After the song, everyone slowly migrated outside. The after-party was at one of the senior's houses. They decided not to go, but instead stayed at the school a little longer. They were seated on one of the benches, looking up at the stars together.

unraveled thoughts (completely out of order) and unraveled bingo (did not go well)
obviously major spoilers below the cut
why didn’t we get many fox scenes 💔 that’s totally lame.
why was keefe being so weird at the beginning. it’s like shannon was testing us, like “haha would you still read unraveled if i added THIS”
kinda wish we got more queer representation than people just talking about their spouses, but it’s SOMETHING! and i love how keefe and alvar talked about it after.. i was hoping they would.
oh yeah. alvar. why does he like pancakes so much he’s so silly. i like him a lot, and if he turns out to be evil i’ll just support him, i guess. you go, dude.
not a fan of the fitz hate. alvar was valid for hating fitz because he tried to kill him, but keefe needs to SHUUUT THE FUUUCK UUUP
very much a fan of the tam not-hate. he hears music and immediately his mind goes to tam. not linh, for some reason. that’s awfully gay of you, keefe. i already made a post about the stuff that happens between them at the end.
a lot of the time he’s just like “hhhfgghff i miss sophie sophie’s so cute sophie would like this” but it’s not every chapter like i thought it would be. yay.
keefe buying something from disneyland for dex is??? so cute??? i’m obsessed???
the drop bear part. i already posted about it, but it’s just so funny.
keefe and alvar’s bro homie friendship thing is so cute. and so random. i am obsessed with it.
i was a big fan of all the human people who helped keefe. i need to know everything about every single one.
this has been said, but i noticed the anti hero thing would tell us something about the timeline. i found that very exciting.
eleanor is. ??? i don’t know how i feel about her. she feels (and looks) like kotlc’s version of rachel from percy jackson. i like rachel. maybe i’ll like eleanor too.
and cassius being an artist?? that was even more shocking than eleanor being alive tbh.
still wish biana and linh actually got mentioned, though i did enjoy keefe’s “sparkles make everything better” comment.
overall, unraveled has its small flaws and absolutely awful moments. but it was enjoyable to me, and it’s amazing that shannon was able to write it on such a crazy deadline. thank you shannon messenger.
and finally, the super totally wrong bingo. red means kind of, and blue means only the part that is circled. neither actually count.
i still think that many of those things SHOULD have happened. but then where would be the room for important things.
