Prayer Leads to Maturity P1,2,3,4,5,6 | Tim Mackie [Psalm 1:1-5]
Prayer, as outlined in Psalm 1, is deliberate meditation that occurs thru-out the day; and will eventually result in loving desire for GOD, only to please HIM [obey] & nothing to grieve HIM [hating evil].
In a fallen world full of distractions & temptations, it's a constant struggle to prioritize GOD—we must ruthlessly eliminate hurry and distractions to quiet the mind—so it can fully focus & absorb what GOD has in store for our communion/oneness with HIM.
In so doing, we learn to value hearing from GOD —and grow to enjoy HIS presence above all else.
The invitations & calls for attention will feel like an impossible sacrifice, but weening away from things that are of no lasting value will also cause us to pray for GOD's wisdom & strength.
This is like someone who is receiving this source of life from outside themselves & it yields fruit.
……………………………………………………………………..…….. It actually matures into, the poetry interprets it as fruit: whatever you want, these actions are things that this person is regularly producing in their life because of this source that they are connected to & whose leaf doesn't wither. [3] ……………………………………………………………………..……..
The Fruit of Righteousness
Philippians 1:11 | ¹¹ filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through JESUS CHRIST, to the glory & praise of GOD.
Goal of the fruit of righteousness is “praise and glory to GOD”
[5] The point is not learning.
The point is to re-read this text slowly & aloud to yourself & then to engage in the 2nd step that is called meditation, which the point isn't to get far
………………………………………………………….……………. the point is to focus in on some key words key ideas/themes in this particular passage ………………………………………………………….…………….
The intimate moments filled with insight & wonderment will build up our understanding & faith in the supremacy of JESUS' love and immense sacrifice HE made for us.

Proverbs 27:2. “Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; A stranger, and not your own lips.” Proverbs 16:24 (NLT). “Kind words are like honey— sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.”
“Handling Praise” By In Touch Ministries:
“Do you feel awkward when someone compliments you?”
“Think about a time when you received praise from a parent, a teacher, or an employer. How did you feel? Did it make you glad or uncomfortable? For many people, praise is nearly as difficult to handle as criticism. Because God’s Word instructs us to be humble (Matthew 18:4; Philippians 2:3), we may sometimes feel confused about how to receive compliments. Here are three ways to respond:
1. Acknowledge the comment by thanking the person. Don’t explain why you are unworthy of praise or try to deflect such kindness. The Lord is using that person to bless you!
2. Identify and acknowledge the character quality that led the other person to commend you. Perhaps he or she sees something you’ve missed (and that God wants you to be aware of). Remember, believers are called to “encourage one another and build one another up” in the Lord (1 Thessalonians 5:11).
3. Share what the encouragement means to you personally. Scripture says that “pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones” (Proverbs 16:24). Tell the other person how much you’ve been blessed by his or her attention and care. After all, praise can go both ways.”
Matthew 18:4. “Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”
Philippians 2:3. “Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves;”
[Unless otherwise stated, Bible verses are in the NASB translation.]

Judges 6:15-16, “But Gideon said to Him, “Please Lord, how am I to rescue Israel? Behold, my family is the least [significant] in Manasseh, and I am the youngest (smallest) in my father’s house.” The Lord answered him, “I will certainly be with you, and you will strike down the Midianites as [if they were only] one man.” (AMP) There was a sign that read Antique Auto Show, so Rob and his wife…

Day 4
August 15, 2024
Dear friend,
Habits seem harder and harder to break. Which makes sense. The older I get, the more I become what I've been. The longer I've been doing the same things again and again and again, the deeper the patterns impress upon my heart. The dirt trails I have walked for three decades are now packed earth, paved road, highways.
But just because it's more difficult doesn't mean I should stop trying. Sin habits are still habits. I do them without thinking; they are so ingrained into my being and my soul. And yet, there's the still, small voice, the itty-bitty truth drowned out by routine... Think. Start thinking.
Think about who you are––beloved, saved, sanctified, adopted, made new.
Think about whose you are––child of the king, purchased and pardoned for a purpose, set apart for infinite glory and joy.
Think about why you continue to be––to glory in and enjoy a good God, to know and be known by Him, to reign with Him and be His bride, His body, His child (metaphors for infinite truths).
Think about where you are headed––eternal joy, seeing Jesus face to face.
Think about how you will get there––by faith... and through many dangers, toils, and snares... and carried along by grace and truth and divine power.
And as you think of these things, your affections might shift, even minutely, off course of where they were pushing your soul. And maybe the fires of lust get swallowed up in greater, stronger, divinely directed conflagrations.
Take some Philippians 4:8 pills and let them shape you a la Romans 12:1-2. Eat that bread of the Word and digest it thoroughly and soak in it (Psalm 1:1-3) and absorb every nutrient you can obtain (Psalm 119:11) and wield it powerfully (Ephesians 6:17) against the lies that have shaped you for years. But do it one day at a time, one step at a time, one leg at a time, one breath at a time (Philippians 3:13-14).
And you'll get there, friend.
And I struggle alongside you. It's tough out here. But we have infinite hope in an infinite Savior.
With affection,
Your brother

The Surprising Story of Balaam's Talking Ass
The Story of how Balaam received a message from God is pretty unusual, and if you haven’t read it before, right now is a great time to do it. If you’ve read it, and it left you scratching your head a little, it’s certainly worth a deeper look. (And yeah, I know it opens the door to bad Ace Ventura jokes and that it’s PRIMARILY referred to most often by middle school boys who say, ” the word ‘Ass‘…

Understanding the Fear of God: Impact on Faith and Wisdom
It is vital to rest in God's love, but that love is best understood when seen against the backdrop of His awe-inspiring greatness and our own need for His mercy. This perspective doesn’t just comfort us; it transforms us, grounding us in true wisdom that

Maundy Thursday! What was it like to be with Jesus at the Last Supper and what relevance does it have for us today? Do you Remember? Think On This Today! God bless ya.
As they ate, Jesus took the bread and blessed it and broke it and gave it to his disciples. He said to them, “This is my body. Eat it.” Then taking the cup of wine, he gave thanks to the Father, he entered into covenant with them, saying, “This is my blood. Each of you must drink it in fulfillment of the covenant. For this is the blood that seals the new covenant. It will be poured out for many…

Nine Biblical Reasons to Reject Donald Trump as a Candidate for President
Wednesday is for Political Controversy I don’t want to write this post.  Despite the fact that I wrote a book with the title Picking a President or Any Other Elected Official, I’m not a really political person.  I’m a registered Independent. Have been all my life. I wish all Christians were registered Independents. I don’t think it is wise for Christians to be identified with either or any…

“Keeping In Step with Christ” This 1-minute devotion explains why Christ told us to take His YOKE and 4 ways we can make sure we're doing it:
We always get out of step when we try to bear our own burdens, solve our own problems, and operate in our own power.
We need a yoke* that connects us with Christ so we can move in step with Him:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30).
Yoked to Christ, we walk where He walks:
1. Dwelling on His Word:
“Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly” (Colossians 3:16a).
2. Rejecting popular worldly philosophies:
“See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ” (Colossians 2:8).
3. Following His purposes:
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10).
4. Walking in His power and strength:
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13).
Jesus says, "Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be" (John 12:26).
Best of all, when we move in step with Christ, we find rest for our souls.
-----------------
*Yoke: "zygós – properly, a yoke; a wooden bar placed over the neck of a pair of animals so they can pull together; (figuratively) what unites (joins) two people to move (work) together as one."
For a deeper understanding of taking Christ's yoke:
•Which yoke
•Yoked but unburdened
•Learn from Him
•Jesus invites us to come take and learn
•Come

Are You Contented?
I’d like you to believe that “I have learned, in whatsoever state I am in, to be content.” (Philippians 4:11) That means we are satisfied with the life or situation we are in. But those are Paul the Apostle’s words – not mine. I’ll admit I can find myself less than contented. Today my sweetheart and I are going on our honeymoon. We put it off until now when we actually have the time to go. We…

In humility, value others above yourselves
Daily Verse Second Reading – Philippians 2:1-11 Imitating Christ’s HumilityTherefore, if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if you have any comfort from his love, if you have any common sharing in the Spirit, if you have any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, and being one in spirit and of one mind. 3 Do…
