Counsel and Wisdom Are Like Drawing Refreshment From, Well... a Well!
The Bible says a great deal about counsel. Good counsel involves getting wise advice before making a final decision. “A wise man will hear and increase learning, and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel” (Proverbs 1:5, NKJV) “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who heeds counsel is wise.” (Proverbs 12:15, NKJV) “Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water, but a man…

Nine Biblical Reasons to Reject Donald Trump as a Candidate for President
Wednesday is for Political Controversy I don’t want to write this post.  Despite the fact that I wrote a book with the title Picking a President or Any Other Elected Official, I’m not a really political person.  I’m a registered Independent. Have been all my life. I wish all Christians were registered Independents. I don’t think it is wise for Christians to be identified with either or any…

The Way of a Fool: Proverbs 12:15
The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice. Proverbs 12:15 There are several items to consider from this verse. First, as people, we are not an island of one. We live with others and are not isolated from the rest of history. Many who have gone before us have many life experiences that teach those who come after them. Second, to listen to advice, one must first…

Proverbs 15:18 (NLT). “A hot-tempered person starts fights; a cool-tempered person stops them.”
John 14:27 (NLT). “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
Luke 12:11-12 (NLT). “And when you are brought to trial in the synagogues and before rulers and authorities, don’t worry about how to defend yourself or what to say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what needs to be said.”
Psalm 141:3 (AMP). “Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips [to keep me from speaking thoughtlessly].”
“Responding to Conflict” By In Touch Ministries:
“When criticism comes your way, pause to ask for God's wisdom before replying.”
“When conflict occurs, what should our response be? Turning to the Lord in prayer is always the best way to respond in a crisis. By doing so, we can ask Him to provide…
Spiritual discernment. God knows and perfectly understands the source of the problem—and He can enable us to comprehend it, too. With the Spirit’s assistance, we will gain insight into the situation.
A quiet spirit. Our human nature will want to react quickly so we can defend ourselves or stand up for what we think is right. But before we act, it’s important to deliberately focus our attention on God and experience the inner peace that He promises (John 14:27).
Wisdom. The Lord told the disciples that the Holy Spirit would give them wise words to say (Luke 12:11-12). And He’ll do that for us as well. If we are tempted to speak hastily, we should ask the Spirit for guidance and the words to speak (Psalm 141:3).
God has called us to represent Him in every situation the same way Christ did—by depending on the heavenly Father. Next time someone speaks critically to you, focus your heart on God and let Him direct your response.”

Hope Floats…..or Not?
Many of us are tired and lackluster with our hope. Tired of negativity, political rancor, grumpy and whiny people. Tired of trying to make changes in our lives. But we’d better make some changes because Proverbs 13:12 says: “Hope deferred makes the heart sick.” Yikes! Who wants a sick heart? When we lose hope, we lose our health, our determination, our dreams, and our desire to face another day.…

12 A worthless person, a wicked man, goes about with crooked speech,
13 winks with his eyes, signals with his feet, points with his finger,
14 with perverted heart devises evil, continually sowing discord;
15 therefore calamity will come upon him suddenly; in a moment he will be broken beyond healing.

I would prefer not to become an enemy of Calvinists as I have with Catholics because I see the difference between Calvinists and Arminians as unbelievably trivial and petty, to the point where I feel debating it at all detracts from worship. I cannot even say with absolute certainty whether my own church professes Calvinist or Arminian belief, because the question simply does not come up.
So I would like you to understand that what I am about to talk about, I do not take personally, neither for myself, nor for my church, nor for Arminians generally. But I have become aware that certain Calvinists enjoy using loaded language to suggest that Arminians believe things that they do not, and though I hesitated, I feel compelled to condemn this behavior. Lies are unacceptable no matter your belief.
This is about specific people and not Calvinists generally, but for any believer who may need to hear this, whether you are Calvinist or Arminian, Protestant or Catholic or Orthodox or Jewish, I pray that you learn temperance, for your own sake.

His Word Becoming Your Words (268) - October 19 2024
Choose your Podcast App to Play this episode This program focuses on how we can unknowingly be held captive to deception and lies of the devil based on our lack of studying and walking in the Truth of the Word of God. Especially in times such as these, it is so important that we are able to know that a believer can speak to a situation to force it to line up with how it should be based on the…

Dealing with Disappointment and Heartbreak: Healing and Moving On
When you are grossly disappointed or heartbroken, give it to the Lord Jesus. ..
I have had a bathroom refurbishment and the whole experience caused me a lot of heartbreak. I thought the builder was good, but it turns out- he was a scammer. The rogue builder is called Shane. And he made a terrible mess in my bathroom. The worst of it is that he scammed me out of money. I trusted him to do a good job, which led to disappointment. Finally, I found a fantastic builder who was…

It is better to live for love, than to die for pride
There is a saying that goes “it’s better to rule in hell, than to serve in Heaven.” I don’t think people really understand what hell is like if that’s something someone would proudly say. Hubris is a crazy thing and I’ve taken a few lumps because of it over the years. There is no ruler in hell, it was created for Satan and his angels for eternal punishment, The lake of fire is not a place you’d…

Cleansing the Temple is One Thing; How About Cleansing Our Hearts?
Day Four of the Ten Days that Changed the World: Monday of Passion Week was a day of travel and cleansing, Mark 11:12-18. Jesus and the disciples walked from Bethany to Jerusalem and back. Remember, that’s about an hour’s walk each way, so these guys were in shape! We don’t live in an age of walking, but it gave life a different pace, and certainly provided time to talk, discuss and teach as…
