another day in Psalm 1
Tumblr media
This is the e-devotion.  It is an honor to be able to share with you some of the incredible parts of God’s word.  Over the next couple weeks I will share some pieces of Scripture that mean the most to me.
Nothing super deep.  Nothing too big.  But profound and strong.
We continue what we started yesterday walking through Psalm 1.  God has spoken to me from this chapter many times.
The person who chooses God, follows His way and seeks Jesus will find some things true about themselves.  Here is what they or us with know.
Psalm 1:1-3  NLT
Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. 2  But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. 3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season.  Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.
Yet those who do not walk with God will find a different path.  Walk further in Psalm 1 about the wicked
Psalm 1:3-4  NLT
But not the wicked! They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind. 5  They will be condemned at the time of judgment. Sinners will have no place among the godly.
That is the place where God doesn’t speak.  It is a struggle.  This person strays further from God and right, has less and less strength.  But then speaks most when we find ourselves close to Him.  Seeking Him and stay close to God.
Take some time to begin this path through Psalm 1, and join me again tomorrow for the next verses in this chapter and discuss how they impact our lives.

Blessed is the Man
1 Happy is the man who does not go in the company of sinners, or take his place in the way of evil-doers, or in the seat of those who do not give honour to the Lord. 2 But whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and whose mind is on his law day and night. 3 He will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, which gives its fruit at the right time, whose leaves will ever be green; and he will do well in all his undertakings. 4 The evil-doers are not so; but are like the dust from the grain, which the wind takes away. 5 For this cause there will be no mercy for sinners when they are judged, and the evil-doers will have no place among the upright, 6 Because the Lord sees the way of the upright, but the end of the sinner is destruction. — Psalm 1 | Bible in Basic English (BBE) The Bible in Basic English is in the public domain. Cross References: Genesis 24:63; Genesis 39:2-3; Deuteronomy 33:29; Numbers 24:6; Joshua 1:8; Job 19:29; Job 21:18; Psalm 5:5; Psalm 25:5; Matthew 3:12; John 10:14; 1 Corinthians 8:3

Source: Swallow's Nest: A Feminine Reading of the Psalms
1 Blessed is the woman who ignores the advice of the wicked, who avoids all the ways of sinners, who refuses to sit with the scornful. 2 She delights instead in the will of God. She muses on God's word day and night. 3 She is like a tree planted by rivers of water, fruitful in season, with unwithered leaves. She prospers in everything she does. 4 But the wicked are nothing like her. They are like chaff which the wind blows away. 5 They cannot stand in the face of judgment; they cannot remain among the righteous. 6 Shaddai establishes the ways of the just, but the way of the unjust shall surely perish
Possible uses of this psalm:
Diminish the strength of the enemy
Protection from those who wish to harm you (pray over a purple candle each morning)
Turn from harmful associations (bad company, books, drugs, language, films, etc)
For a safe pregnancy (don't use in place of conventional medical care)
Prayer for blessings (v3)
Imprecatory prayer (v6)
1-3 are sourced from Power of the Psalms by Anna Riva, 4 from My New Everyday Prayer Book by Brother ADA

The Cruelty of Mocking: Don't Let Them Steal Your Joy!
Mark 15:16-20 The soldiers took Jesus into the courtyard of the governor’s headquarters (called the Praetorium) and called out the entire regiment. They dressed him in a purple robe, and they wove thorn branches into a crown and put it on his head. Then they saluted him and taunted, “Hail! King of the Jews!” And they struck him on the head with a reed stick, spit on him, and dropped to their…

Mindful Living: Applying Alma 37, 2 Timothy 3, and Psalm 1
The scriptures are alive with lessons guiding our daily walk. Alma 37 teaches us that small and simple acts of righteousness can bring great results. 2 Timothy 3 warns of perilous times but encourages us that scripture equips us for every good work.
Understanding Scriptures: Insights from Alma 37, 2 Timothy 3, and Psalm 1 Why are scriptures so essential in our lives, especially for Latter-day Saints? Alma 37, 2 Timothy 3, and Psalm 1 offer profound insights that can guide us daily. Alma 37 emphasizes the importance of counseling with the Lord in all our doings, ensuring that He will direct us for good. In 2 Timothy 3, we read about the…

𝐁𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐨 𝐞𝐥 𝐕𝐚𝐫𝐨́𝐧
¿Te unes a Sus planes?

power from Psalm 1
Tumblr media
This is the last e-devotion for this week.  It is always an honor to be able to share with you thoughts from God’s word.  This week and next I will share some pieces of Scripture that mean the most to me.  Let’s enjoy some time with Jesus!
Nothing super deep.  Nothing too big.  But profound and strong.
This week we are walking through Psalm 1.  Some of the first verses I remember when I came to know Jesus and learned to walk with Him.  God has spoken to me from this chapter for year.
Living by faith is not a simple task, but it is important.  Learning the difference between faith and feeling, truth and lies, real life and fake life is vital.  The person who chooses Jesus finds the following truth:
Psalm 1:1-3  NLT
Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. 2  But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. 3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season.  Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.
Those who don’t choose to follow Jesus will find this truth:
Psalm 1:4-5  NLT
But not the wicked! They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind. 5  They will be condemned at the time of judgment. Sinners will have no place among the godly.
Then on to the promise of God.  He is watching.  And that is true because He loves us.  May we cling to God, stay close to Him and watch our lives change because we are following Him!
Psalm 1:6  NLT
For the Lord watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction.
Take some time to walk through Psalm 1, and join me again next week for more truth from God’s word.

The Two Ways
1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
4 The wicked are not so, but are like chaff which the wind drives away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; 6 for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. — Psalm 1 | Revised Standard Version (RSV) Revised Standard Version of the Bible, copyright © 1946, 1952, and 1971 the Division of Christian Education of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the United States of America.
