Okay, well, I was planning to build up some hype, but
🦇🎃HAPPY HALLOWEEN🎃🦇
Lorehaven Bound: A Hunger Pangs Short is now available on Amazon.
Tumblr media
A train ride through the Nevrondian countryside should be a calming proposition, but for Ursula, it isn't. Her thoughts swirl, fixated on one thing... make that two things. Specifically Nathan Northland and Vlad Blutstein. It's not just because they are both breath-stealingly attractive—although to be fair, that doesn't hurt. It's because they surprised her, and Ursula is very rarely surprised.
Even more confounding is her reaction to them, particularly the vampire, Vlad. Just what is she supposed to do about these... feelings?
All Ursula knows is that she doesn't have time for emotions right now. Not when the fate of the world is at stake. She can deal with this later. First, she's got to figure out what story she's going to tell the sure-to-be-furious Alfbern. Then, she needs to catch up on all the sleep she missed before hitting the road again. Surely, she can do those things while being Lorehaven Bound.
*
This story is a 10,000-word character study/missing moment that takes place immediately after Hunger Pangs: True Love Bites. You will want to read that first if you don't want to be spoiled for the events in that book!

💖 Available now on Amazon
💖 Apple, Kobo, Smashwords, and more... (links still populating.)
💖Payhip - my personal storefront 💖
Happy reading!
Okay, thanks, love you all, bye.
ID: A red book cover showing a feminine figure standing in front of a steam strain. The title reads Lorehaven Bound, A Hunger Pangs short by International Bestselling Author Joy Demorra. There is a glittery crystal next to the text, and gold decorative swirls adorn the corners.

cute things to do if your bf is an eldritch body horror abomination:
✧ kiss his tentacles ✧ buy him donuts to devour ✧ try to hug his entire 30-feet body ✧ listen to his trills, growls and songs ✧ let him take you to his pocket dimension ✧ hold his organs for him ✧ despair at the implications of an everchanging body in constant need of transformation ✧ cuddle!

Ever hear about the Michigan Dogman? An enormous wolfy cryptid with a howl that makes your blood run cold? Stories of them run amuck through Midwestern lore, and I can't think of a beauty more fitting to come nosing around in my story ‘Wolves.’ Who ever said there can be only ONE species of werewolf?

Chapter 18
After a rocky night, morning brings surprises....
Fingertips danced over the soft skin of Yara’s upper arm. She was still deep within the confines of sleep but Astaroth had awoken hours earlier. His mind kept turning over everything that had happened since his wife had first walked into his office with the information that she was to be his new intern.
Astaroth did not do relationships. He did not do emotional entanglement. Yet, here he was doing both with the woman in his arms with her head resting on his shoulder. Not only that, but he felt a protectiveness and possessiveness over her that he had never felt towards another. Never was he one to share someone he was with, but his reaction should they stray was simply to remove them from his life. Watching the men in the club lust after Yara had awakened feelings within Astaroth that were completely foreign.
How could one simple demoness have so affected him? He did not believe that she was deceiving him, but he wondered if Lucifer had done something. Was there an ulterior motive? Maybe who Yara’s mother was would shed light on what was going on. It was not like suddenly Death would change after being the same since the dawn of time. Yet, perplexingly, he had.
*****
Hours later, Yara awoke, stiĺl finding it hard to believe that Astaroth hadn’t rejected her or left her during the night. His acceptance and the vow he had made the night before were unlike anything she had expected or experienced before. There was a part of her that kept being afraid that this was one of her father’s illusions and it would disappear before her eyes.
As the couple were relaxing together and enjoying the morning breeze in the tropical island mansion that would be their new home, others were finding that their access to the two of them was no longer as free as it once had been. This did not go over well.
Lucifer was enraged. He’d already tried to send messengers to the island, but they couldn’t make it through the numerous wards erected by Astaroth. By creating his own island, Astaroth had created a pocket dimension connected to Earth, it technically didn’t exist ON Earth, and he was the creator and ruler of it. So, in order to enter it, you had to have Astaroth’s permission and only one being in all of creation did: Yara.
It did not take long for Lucifer’s displeasure to reach Astaroth’s office in Hell. His employees were used to dealing with the demon king and knew that there was nothing he could do to them. They answered him with dismissive tones and threw him out of the office, something that enraged him more. He had forgotten that the only reason he'd been able to entrap Astaroth in this whole scheme was repayment of a debt owed.
That Lucifer was apparently having a royal temper tantrum in Hell amused Yara no end. Astaroth had shown her the text messages and videos he’d been sent from friends of theirs in Hell. They really could not have asked for a better wedding present than him losing his mind over not being in control of the situation in the slightest. When he found out where Astaroth was taking her next on the “A&Y World Tour Honeymoon”, there was no doubt that Lucifer was likely to become even more apoplectic. Not that there was anything he could do to separate them after where they were about to go. Lucifer was a demon with no more power than a lesser god, and they were about to visit one of the major ones to have their marriage blessed. No matter what was in that cursed contract of his, after this day, it wouldn’t be worth the time that it had taken Lucifer to come up with it.
*****
“Are you ready for today’s adventure, Papilio?” Astaroth looked over to where she was finishing getting ready. She seemed calmer than she had been before and he hoped that their conversation the night before had set her mind and some of her worries to rest. Later, when things were calm and settled, there would have to be more conversations.
“I might be able to answer that if you told me where we were going!” Yara was laughing as she looked over at her husband and stuck at her tongue. He absolutely refused to tell her where they were going and it was driving her absolutely insane with curiosity. He promised her that she would enjoy it far more than their venture the previous night. At first she hadn’t been sure if he had been joking or if he had been serious.
“We, my beautiful wife, are going to find out who your mother is.” He sauntered over and leaned against the door frame as she froze and looked back at him through the mirror. It was clear that she was in shock, and not quite sure if she could believe him. “Who it is that is going to tell us, that my darling, is a surprise. One you’re not going to find out if you do not get that lovely posterior of yours into gear and finish getting ready.” He winked at her with a sly smile forming.
“You’re serious?” She looked at him skeptically through the mirror, still so surprised by all that Astaroth was doing and had done. The events of the previous night were still confusing to her, but that he had already arranged for them to take the first step in finding out who her mother was completely shocked her. There was nothing about her husband that made sense to her.
Astaroth chuckled and walked up behind her, placing his arms around her waist, his chin resting on her shoulder. “I have no reason to tease you with something like that. Of course, I am serious. Plus we are going to have our marriage blessed by a full godhead and ruler of a pantheon. So, you finish getting ready and I’m going to scry my friend.” Kissing the side of her neck, he gave her a wicked smile in the mirror and then turned to leave the room, leaving her speechless.
Less than twenty minutes later, she was ready. Astaroth was grinning, his plans coming together beautifully. If he could have Odin sanctify their marriage, then there was nothing Lucifer could do to break them apart, Yara could relax. Odin also had Mimir’s head, the strange oracle, and that was who he hoped would be able to tell him where they could find Yara’s mother. If not who she was, then at least someone who could help them find her. If this didn’t work, he was going to have to go to Delphi, and he hated having to fuck around with the Greeks.

Brain Curd #176
Brain Curds are lightly edited flash fiction - practically first drafts - posted daily (haven't missed one yet!) and sometimes written with the express intention of being terrible… but, you know, in an endearing way. Please like and reblog if you enjoy - the notes keep me going!
He's gonna be Frank with you. Read the rest of The Frank Program here on Tumblr!
Last time on The Frank Program, Frank caught Daryl watching something on his phone during recording, and he didn't like what he saw.
Daryl exploded out the door to the parking lot, anger in his stride, fear in his posture, and tears in his eyes. Chad, leaning on a car, got up immediately when he saw the kid running off.
“Hey!” He called out. Daryl wasn’t stopping for anything.
Cautiously, Chad poked his head back inside. Frank was stoic, silent in his host’s seat, a lit cigarette in his left hand. He took a drag from it and sighed out a puff of smoke.
“Come in, Mr. Graves. We oughtta finish the show.”
“You alright, bud?”
There were bags under Frank’s eyes that Chad didn’t recall seeing before. “I’m plenty content to finish recording.”
Graves sat down in his chair. The corner behind him was conspicuously empty. The chair which had been there before sat askew and on its side at the other end of the room.
“You know, Mr. Graves -”
“You can just call me Chad.”
“Well, Chad…” Frank took another hit. “I ain’t touched a cigarette in ten years. Kept this one in the studio just to prove to myself I didn’t need it.” He chuckled. “Funny how I keep proving myself wrong, huh?”
“How’s that?”
“Oh, the usual. I think o’ someone as a friend, or a wife, or… or a son. And I come to find they never were, really. They stab me in the goddamn back.”
“I take it that your chat didn’t go too well?”
Frank sneered. “You have no idea.”
“I’m sure he’ll come around. You know teenagers, I mean… I remember when I was a teenager, I got in arguments with my parents all the time.”
“We’re no stranger to arguments, Chad. This is somethin’ else. I’m losing my boy.”
“What exactly happened?”
Frank huffed and smothered his cigarette in the ashtray. “We better get back to my prepared questions.”
“Yeah…” Chad nodded slowly. “Alright.”
Frank shuffled through pages, looking for a question he still felt like asking. “Uh… Do you and your friends ever have creative differences when working on the show?”
“I don’t think we’d be as effective at doing our jobs if we did. Really, all four of us try to stay out of the creative side of things most of the time. Our producer decides what the story is for a given episode. He takes our full night of footage, and our analysis of the findings, and he gives that to his editor to make the pieces fit together.”
“Does the show replicate the experience of actually bein’ there, do ya think?”
“To be honest with you, I don’t usually watch it. Kind of a ‘been there, done that’ situation. But I have been channel surfing before and caught a rerun from a few years ago, and it definitely brought back memories.”
“Well that’s nice. Nice to have something to look back on. I guess I’ve got that too, huh? A little piece of the past… to bring back memories.”
“Yeah, I guess so. The nice thing about the show is it cuts out all the boring bits. The parts where we’re just sitting around, whispering to each other like we’re trying not to wake up the parents at a sleepover.”
“Right,” Frank said, a lump in his throat. “Those are the parts you really miss when they’re gone.”
Chad tilted his head to look around his microphone. “It’s gonna be okay, Frank. He’ll -”
“Mr. Graves, I don’t want another grown man to see me cry. So thank you for being here, but I must be signing off. Go ahead and tell the people where to find you.”
“I’m on all the socials as @GravesGhostVisions, so just search that up if you want to see where we’re headed next.”
“Thank you. This has been The Frank Program…” Frank struggled to get the words out without letting tears come with. “So long.”

Review: Impromptu Match (Goliaths of Wrestling book 1) by Lily Mayne
Rating:5🌈 I had no idea Lily Mayne could write romcom. Paranormal romcom! I picked up Impromptu Match, the first book in Mayne’s Goliaths of Wrestling paranormal romance series, based just on that fabulous cover illustration by Vic Gray/Bloodwrit. Didn’t even look at the author at all. I was captivated by the characters I saw beautifully captured by the artist. But that story! Wow! While I got…

My co-author and I worked with @oblivionsdream to have her do up artwork of our characters from Sanctuary of the Lost and they are SO beautiful.
When I say Christis and I have lived with these characters rent free in our heads for probably close to a decade, I'm not joking. So to put pen to paper, and then to see an artist bring them to life in this way, means so much to both of us. And they truly did come out just how we imagined them!
Sometimes, love finds you anyway. Burned by her first love, Mab has spent the last several years content with her brother, their club, and her Miami beach front property. The last thing she wants, or needs, is for the arrow cast by Erotes—god of love—to rear its ugly head. But trouble disrupts Mab’s hard-earned peace in the form of a dead inanimi washed up on her private beach. Not wanting to disturb Ander and his newfound bliss, Mab calls the only person she can think of—Quintus Schields. Life for Quin used to be simple. Second in command to his brother Maximus, Quin has always been a hardworking and dedicated creature of few words. He wants nothing to do with the owners of Inferno or their drama. Especially with his new responsibilities as caregiver to an ignis youngling. So, when Mab Duchan asks for help, he has to decide if he wants to keep his world as is, or accept there might be more to life than he expected. As Miami’s criminal underground returns to sink its claws into them, Fate forces the four to face old demons, and question just what they’re willing to do for happiness.

Hunger Pangs: True Love Bites
Tumblr media
In a world of dwindling hope, love has never mattered more...
Captain Nathan J. Northland had no idea what to expect when he returned home to Lorehaven injured from war, but it certainly wasn’t to find himself posted on an island full of vampires. An island whose local vampire dandy lord causes Nathan to feel strange things he’d never felt before. Particularly about fangs.
When Vlad Blutstein agreed to hire Nathan as Captain of the Eyrie Guard, he hadn’t been sure what to expect either, but it certainly hadn’t been to fall in love with a disabled werewolf. However Vlad has fallen and fallen hard, and that’s the problem.
Torn by their allegiances–to family, to duty, and the age-old enmity between vampires and werewolves–the pair find themselves in a difficult situation: to love where the heart wants or to follow where expectation demands.
The situation is complicated further when a mysterious and beguiling figure known only as Lady Ursula crashes into their lives, bringing with her dark omens of death, doom, and destruction in her wake.
And a desperate plea for help neither of them can ignore.
Hunger Pangs: True Love Bites by Joy Demorra is a queer, paranormal, gaslamp fantasy romance novel featuring enchanted forests, gothic castles, and just a smidge of industrial coal dust, and is the first book of the Hunger Pangs slow-burn polyamorous romance series. Join Vlad, Nathan, and Ursula as they navigate a magical world torn asunder war and politics as they work to restore balance to the world and find love along the way. Book one is available now in ebook, paperback, and audio.

My first novel is available now! A link is available on my website along with a link to my self-published poetry collection! Here is a summary for What Came After:
To outsiders, Hannah has it all. She's taking college classes, holding down a fun job, and dating one of the most sought-after boys in town. But Hannah has secrets-secrets about herself and her past, the people she's hurt, and the people who want to hurt her.
When an unthinkable tragedy blurs the line between the natural and the supernatural, Hannah finds herself trapped between the world of the living and the dead.
As a spectator of the only life she's ever known, Hannah watches her own murder investigation from a different dimension of life-a place where no one can see or hear her aside from a mysterious boy named Art.
Will Art be able to help Hannah uncover what is keeping her in limbo? Or is there more to the situation than either one of them dares to imagine?

Can I get some book recs?
I'm looking to get back into reading after being out of the game for a loooong time, but I'm having a hard time finding books that fit what I'm looking for that are also available on Libby. I have no desire to use audible or kindle. If I really like how a book sounds I'll add it to my list, but I'm poor as hell right now, so I'd love to get suggestions for books that I can access sooner. (And yeah, my library system sucks ass and so apparently does NYC, so it's been a struggle)
I'm basically looking for adult speculative fiction by authors of color, preferably with queer characters. Open to just about anything under the speculative fiction umbrella, though I admit I do struggle with high fantasy and "hard" sci-fi, but I'm open to looking into them! Urban fantasy and paranormal are my faves. I would also love poetry book recs by authors of color. Oh, and Indie authors of color! :D
Thank you, bookfriends!

Training continues...
The next several hours were spent practicing different fighting styles and learning how to work together.  Much to Morpheus’ surprise, Melinoe was a very skilled fighter and far stronger than he would have given her credit for based on looks alone.   In the end Melinoe was having to admit to herself that Morpheus might have earned some of his reputation honestly, and that, while she still wasn’t going to put up with his ego, he was that good.  She’d almost say he was as good as she was.
Then it came time for weapons training, and neither of them truly trusted the other to engage with actual bladed weapons, so they did agree that for the time being, they would use practice weapons.  Trust, after all, was earned through working together.  Until they were used to one another, there was the possibility of accidents, and neither of them particularly wanted to lose their head or a limb due to a slip.  Once they were more comfortable, then the real weapons could come out.
Again, to his surprise, Melinoe not only held her own but bested him more than once.  If he was going to have to have a partner, then she was definitely someone he would pick to fill that position.  For her part, Melinoe was getting through that ego and exterior of Morpheus and finding him easier to stand than she had anticipated.  Whether it was because they weren’t as unevenly matched as he had anticipated or there was something else at play, she wasn’t sure, but she was glad for whatever it was.
“Before we move on to actual weapons, I have to admit that I’ve been holding back on something.”  Melinoe had been trying to gauge when the right time to reveal her secret weapon was, and this seemed as good a time as any.  While she was skilled, there was one other thing that helped her when hunting nightmares.  Stowing a dagger inconspicuously, she once more faced off against Morpheus.  “See if you can take me down this time.”  With a wink, the fight was on again.
“Really?  Is this where you take off clothing and flirt?” Morpheus highly doubted it was, but he had now been up close and personal with the svelte brunette enough that he wouldn’t have complained too loudly if she had.  His brow was raised as he waited for her to answer.  She was giving him a run for his money, so what more she could have unleashed, yet hadn’t, did interest him.
Her eyes rolled, and she scoffed, “in your dreams, Morpheus.  And, only there, is that going to happen, might I add.”  She shook her head and laughed.  “No, I have a nifty little trick.  See, I was born while my mother was in a dream due to the battle she was engaged in.  The dreamer, they left me with this.”  A smirk forming on her lips, she raised one hand and snapped.
At first Morpheus wasn’t sure if he was supposed to notice something and then his eyes went wide as he did.  “How are you doing that?”  His eyes again looked around the room that now matched the inside of his living room.  It had taken him a moment to realize what she’d done because he’d been so focused on her.  Now he wasn’t sure if he should be impressed or disturbed.
“When you are born within a dream, the dreamer can give you extra powers apparently.  Mine is to cast illusions.  The dreamer bestowed it so that the nightmare wouldn’t see me.  I was born within the nightmare of a six year old, I can’t really complain with her choice of gifts.  Kept her and I safe till my parents defeated the nightmare monster.”  Melinoe let the illusion fall.  “It’s also what has allowed me to go after nightmares far more powerful than I am.  You can see I can hold my own even without it, but it has helped when on my own.”
Morpheus had to hand it to her, Melinoe could have kept that ace up her sleeve, but she had revealed it to him.  It was the first sign of trust and he knew better than to throw it in her face or belittle it.  Since there was no way for them to get out of the partnership, he might as well be thankful that she was on his side than able to use that trick against him.
“I have a feeling that may come in useful in the future for us.  Even with two of us, distraction and misdirection is never a bad thing when your life is on the line.  Thank you for trusting me with that knowledge.”  He inclined his head towards her.
“If we’re going to keep one another alive, always good to know one another’s strengths.  And that is one that I won’t factor into our sparring.  I don’t see the benefit in it, unless you do.”  Melinoe had considered surprising him with it, but decided that might be one surprise not to be revealed in the middle of sparring or battle.  Sometimes pissing off your partner was the absolute last thing you wanted to do.  Knowing Morpheus’ temperament already, with him it was definitely better to not keep anything back from him.
“Agreed. How about we get weapons training started before the higher ups come and grab us for that meeting.  I’m sure that neither of us want to deal with them in a bad mood.”  He smirked as he flipped a blade out of his bag and sheathed it in a discreet location.  He had no doubt that Melinoe was once more going to give him a run for his money, and if neither of them walked away without a few bandages it would be a miracle.  At least neither of them would probably need stitches, which would be a first for someone sparring with him.
