Jason pointed to his front door, which hung precariously off its hinges. Roy and Artemis sat beside him on the couch, exchanging glances.

Harley: I scared off the Jehovah's Witnesses, though.

Artemis (interrupting Jason): Thanks for that. They won't leave anyone alone around here.

Harley: That’s what I’m here for—gettin' rid of nuisances like that. And I think I could be a valuable asset to the Outlaws team. I've come to apply for the job of Outlaw. Here’s my resume.

Harley handed Jason a neatly typed resume on pink paper. He accepted it reluctantly, unsure what to make of it—or the fact that a convicted felon had a resume.

Jason (exasperated): All you’ve listed under former employment is "former henchwoman" and "current therapist/psychologist." You’re not even licensed anymore.

Harley (pridefully): I’m a traveling therapist! No license needed for that. Besides, BetterHelp said I’m a shoo-in.

Jason: I’m conflicted about that last part, but I’m not hiring you. I don’t even hire people.

Harley (pointing at Jason’s teammates): Are they gettin' paid?

Jason (annoyed): We split the money, but that doesn’t mean—

Harley (interrupting): Artemis, Roy, do you get paid after a mission when it’s a job well done?

Roy: Yeah, Bizarro and Kori do too.

Jason (angry): I hate you.

Artemis (crossing her arms, enjoying this): He also gets us a meal afterward.

Jason groaned, burying his face in the resume.

Harley: Okay, so why can’t I get hired? And I’m not listin' the Joker as a previous employer. Sure, I did some goonin’ after leavin' him, but… come on, it’s the Joker. We all agree—fuck the Joker.

Harley fell silent, glancing around expectantly for support. Her spirits lifted when she caught sight of Artemis nodding in agreement.

Harley: See? Artemis agrees. I also listed a bunch of skills and included some solid references.

Jason: Ivy, Clayface, and King Shark are not what I’d call “great references.” Is Bruce’s name on there?!

Harley: Yes, yes it is! You can call him, too. He’ll give me a glowing recommendation.

Jason glared at the pink-printed resume, frustration bubbling inside him while his friends eagerly waited for him to make the call.

Jason: I keep glaring at this paper, but it won’t burn!

Artemis (amused): Well, we’re not doing anything until you call him.

Outlaw Sun, groaning: the authorities expect them to return by nightfall, how will we explain Y/N's absence?

Outlaw Moon: everything gets lost in shipping nowadays.

The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson

I get it. I get the Sanderson hype. This is book 1 of the Stormlight Archive. It is such an incredibly unique and creative book. It's absolutely everything I want out of a fantasy book. The world building is mindblowing. I mean, he even thought about how the grass would work differently. The grass! I feel like no one ever thinks about the little differences like that that make the world they're writing so much more real and interesting. And the characters are enjoyable too. It's very rare that I read a book where I'm equally invested in every single pov. There's usually always one where I'm waiting for the next to start. Not this one. I was equally invested in all of them. And yes this book is HUGE but it is 100% worth it and I know this series is going to live in my brain forever. I am going to stop now cause I could seriously write an essay. I cannot recommend this book/series highly enough.

Fairest by Marissa Meyer

This is a novella in the Lunar Chronicles about Queen Levana's backstory. I was looking forward to this one cause I love a good villain backstory and it sure delivered. Meyer did a great job of showing that yeah some bad things happened to Levana but she handled pretty much all of them so badly and how that made her who she became in the main series. It reminded me a lot of Snow's arc in the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes where he A) had a less than ideal childhood/family life and B) just kept making worse and worse decisions as the book went on and falling deeper into the villain role.

The Sandman by Neil Gaiman

The first thing I did when I opened this book and saw Dream was go "wait that's literally just Neil." I love that the artists did that. It made me laugh. So I watched the show before I read the comic and I'm impressed how accurate the show was. There are slight differences but I like both versions honestly. If you like comics or gothic horror, this is a good one to read

Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt

I found this book and was immediately intrigued. Octopuses are one of my favorite animals. I think they're fascinating and incredibly smart. My mom and I both ended up with a copy of this book, so we read it at the same time. It wasn't exactly what I thought it was going to be, but I did still really enjoy it. I really enjoyed how the main characters grew throughout the story. I especially loved the octopus pov. And I figured out how one character fit into the story before my mom. Which she didn't appreciate lol.

Daindreth's Outlaw by Elisabeth Wheatley

I dont have a ton to say about this one. It felt very fast and like it was very much just a bridge from the first book to the third. That didn't make it a bad book, though, by any means. I did like the new sorceress character that was introduced and the magic/evil forest setting. I also enjoyed the fmc exploring and discovering her new powers.

Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson

More Stormlight Archive! I genuinely don't know how I read 4 books between the first one and this one cause these books live permanently in my brain. I'm super excited about where this one left off. It was a really interesting place (literally lol). So much happened in this book and it was cool to see the characters grow in their power. And all the reveals! The backstory reveals, the whole deal with the parshendi (which was super sad), the deal with the spren and the shardblades, whatevers going on with szeth (who I love), and somebody not being dead (I knew it!). I particularly loved shallan in this book. I adore a manipulative protagonist. They just do something to my brain. And patterns a cutie. I was about to fight kaladin, though, and I love him too, but oh my god. I don't know. I could talk about this book forever, so I'm gonna just stop rambling and say that I loved it and leave it at that.

The popular Toei film series about the Yagyu Clan continues. Konoe Kushiro returns as legendary swordsman Jubei Yagyu, sporting Jubei's signature eyepatch for the first time. I'll have to watch this film again to make sure, but I seem to recall there was never an in-series explanation for the eyepatch's arrival.

The eyepatch is used in many modern depictions of the character, with varying explanations as to why Jubei must wear it. It is believed by many historians to just be an invention to enhance Jubei's legend. Chronicles of his life and portraits taken of him show him with both eyes.

Story time - I’ve been watching Harry Potter themed mystery box uboxings for awhile. However, I no longer want to support Harry Potter and she-who-must-not-be-named.

So I decided to see what other books or fandoms have inspired that kind of content, and… nothing quite to the extent that the wizarding universe has (superheroes have some fun things, but not the same level of creativity in theme boxes!). But you know what has super rich world building AND upcoming live action projects? Percy Jackson’s world and the worlds of the Rick Riordan Presents line.

I also recently learned more about the insane world of funko pops and Disney pin trading/mystery pins. And I discovered the joy of stickers.

Now, after at least three years of this idea bouncing around my head, I’m finally writing some of my dream Riordan-verse unboxing items down 😅

This is all fictional, if I have particular inspirations I’ll link them. This is also helping me make it through my pile of unread books, so I’m probably going to be starting with more of the Presents titles.

one of my favorite parts of the lunar chronicles has always been how batshit insane it is. just the the genuine unhingery. the main character kidnaps her love interest from his wedding. said love interest stabs his arranged bride (a murderous dictator) with scissors at the altar. cress and thorne stay at an inn in the middle of the desert, and while he’s fucking around gambling she gets kidnapped into an underground medical experimentation human trafficking ring and bought by her long lost father. there’s evil moon people. scarlet and wolf get it on in a boxcar after like two days of knowing each other. 4/9 of the main cast aren’t human. cinder crashes kai’s wedding (again), murders twenty people, and jumps off a ten story balcony into a lake. kai keeps cinder’s metal foot so he can stare at it and long after her while she’s a wanted fugitive. cress fangirls over and stalks her outlaw crush on the internet for years and then bags him when they meet. not one of them is over twenty or mentally sound btw. no other YA series is doing it like that. applause
