October 2014: The Connections decide to move Eveline, their penultimate Mold bioweapon, to a more secretive location. Word of her existence has gotten out, presumably following preliminary field tests, and not only do other illicit bioweapons dealing organizations find her a threat to the market, as her abilities would render more traditional bioweapons and even actual weapons useless, but the BSAA makes eliminating her a priority. Though the BSAA raids their main facility in Munich, Germany, they are too late, and Eveline and all the research and other samples pertaining to her creation have already been loaded onto the cargo ship Annabelle. En route to a facility in America, the ship is caught up in a hurricane, and Eveline becomes unstable. She soon begins to vomit Mold, and the resulting colony rapidly spreads throughout the ship, infecting most of its crew, who were not involved with The Connections. Eveline escapes, pursued throughout the ship by her handlers, Mia Winters (30) and another Connections operative. The two had served as her “parents” whenever she was transported in public, and Eveline reveals that she has decided she wants to have a real family and live free from The Connections, but both handlers are intent on killing her. The second handler is killed remotely by Eveline after insulting her, through the Mold he had already been infected with. Mia, on the other hand, is more careful, placating Eveline by agreeing to be her mother while still searching for a way to find and kill her. Unfortunately, a fuel tank on the ship explodes, and the Annabelle crashes into the Gulf of Mexico, ending up in a swamp in Louisiana. A nearby ranching family, the Bakers, find Mia near the wreckage and take her back to their home to recover. Drifting in and out of consciousness, she is unable to explain the gravity of the situation to them, or otherwise chooses not to. Days later, Eveline is also found by the Bakers, and soon infects the entire family. Mia tries to escape, leaving behind a letter to explain to the Bakers what is going on, but is found by Eveline and also infected. Using the Mold, Eveline traps both Mia and the Baker daughter, Zoe, who has been resistant to her control, within the bounds of the property, as their infection will kill them if they leave. Zoe finds the letter and collects some materials to make a serum that can free her family of the infection, but is unable to complete it. The Baker parents, Jack and Marguerite, along with the Baker son, Lucas, are allowed to leave the property, compelled by Eveline to kidnap people to join her family. Those who resist are killed, and quietly the death toll begins to mount.

the whole guilt-tripping language in posts about important topics paired with how I'm still getting bitches in my notes talking about why it's actually good to tell "bad" people to kill themselves continues to prove to me that a lot of people have absolutely no concept of social justice or activism outside of assuming the worst of and then viciously attacking strangers on the internet

actually, do ya know what common Avatar misconception is even more annoying than "they have sex with their hair"?
"they have sex with their tails"
because not only were you not paying attention when they explain what the "hair thing" is (basically a biological USB that lets them neurologically connect to the world around them), you weren't even paying enough attention to realize that the tail and the kuru are two separate body parts

2015 - 2017: Lucas Baker is freed from Eveline’s control by The Connections using a serum made from body parts of subjects from an earlier line of attempts at creating a Mold bioweapon, the “D” series. He continues to carry out Eveline’s orders, acting as a mole for The Connections, who establish a lab in a mine near the Baker property to monitor the situation.

No Order 66 AU where Anakin leaves the Order after the war ends and he and Padme end up retiring to Naboo to try to raise the twins together, but neither of them ends up feeling particularly satisfied with life on Naboo (for Anakin it just doesn't give him any purpose the way he desperately needs and for Padme it's always been this perfect rosy dream and reality doesn't measure up), so they end up leaving the twins behind a lot so they can pursue other things and are pretty absentee parents in general. They mostly end up getting raised by Padme's parents instead, and while they're perfectly good guardians for the twins and raise them kindly and love them a lot, there's always an obvious elephant in the room regarding who ISN'T there.
This causes a bit of a rift between Luke and Leia because while Luke is trying to keep the peace and give their parents the benefit of the doubt as he moves on and figures out his own life with what he DOES have, Leia is less willing to just forgive and forget.
Luke ends up becoming a pilot working for the royal palace for a while, but Leia goes into politics (something she'd entered while younger because it's what her mother did and she'd been hoping it would get Padme's attention and bring the two of them closer; it didn't work out that way at all and now Leia's sticking with it at least partly to spite Padme) as an aide for her cousin Pooja who is now Senator of Naboo.
And it's here, once she finally makes it to Coruscant and starts working in the Senate, that Leia meets Bail Organa, still working as Senator of Alderaan. The two of them click IMMEDIATELY and Bail ends up becoming Leia's mentor in politics, as well as the person who actually introduces her to the Jedi themselves. Anakin and Padme had never really bothered to do so, both because they were so rarely around, but also because they had chosen not to give Luke and Leia to the Temple and decided at that point that it would be easier to keep the twins and the Jedi separate. Bail of course has no such compunctions and even if he knew about Anakin and Padme's feelings on the matter, I imagine he'd find ways to allow Leia to accidentally bump into some of the Jedi while she was on Coruscant. If he just so happens to double book himself for lunch with both Leia and Obi-Wan, it's hardly anything malicious and they may as well all eat together!
Leia finally feels like she has a parent who gives a damn about her, someone who acts like a parent to her, the parent she's always wanted. Her grandparents had always been incredibly kind and they obviously had to do a lot of parenting, but they'd always been very strict about making sure the twins saw them as GRANDPARENTS and not their actual parents, which just make the absence of their parents that much more obvious and painful. But with Bail, she's finally got someone who doesn't care that Anakin and Padme aren't there and doesn't feel the need to create a wall between them for Anakin and Padme's sake. Bail takes her under his wing, teaches her everything she knows, allows her to explore things she'd never been allowed to explore before, connects her to even more people who can help her understand herself better than she's ever been able to before. THIS is what a parent was supposed to do for her and she knows it, THIS is what selfless love looks like from a parent and she THRIVES under it for the first time in her life.
She eventually decides not to stay on as Pooja's aide because she has no real desire to become a senator for Naboo at any point, but she IS good at politics and desperately does want to help people any way she can, so she starts up some sort of organization of her own to help people around the galaxy (and connects it to the Jedi because deep down she KNOWS she was supposed to be one of them even though that path is now closed to her). But she doesn't go back to Naboo, she doesn't make her home on her mother's home planet.
She goes to Alderaan instead. And this time, she gets to stay there for the rest of her life.

also, another thing: everything that ever happened to jack harkness was because of the doctor after the first 35 years. EVERYTHING. none of it have would happened if the doctor hadnt 1) invited jack to travel with them 2) stolen the tardis and ran away 3) met queen victoria in torchwood house and caused her to create an organization dedicated to hunting him down 4) helped open the rift with the gelth in cardiff 1869. THE DOCTOR WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR EVERYTHING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO JACK: HIS IMMORTALITY. TORCHWOOD. AND EVEN TORCHWOOD CARDIFF.

It is genuinely not surprising that Ashton has such a strong The Gods Are Going To Kill Us take on the situation, given what they specifically have seen and what they have to relate to. They're about two weeks out from 1.) getting done violence onto them by an angel and then 2.) being told they have a bit of a dead thing that the gods tried to kill inside them. Then they go and put a lot of effort into getting that dead scrap to wake up (with disastrous consequences illustrating how incredibly volatile its power is). Then they have their only religious friend blow up in front of them. Then they watch a movie trilogy where the only non-god main character is another earth genasi broken-walking-timebomb whose main purpose on the mission is to explode when the gods need him to. They don't see the Lawbearer weep for her son, they only see the Emissary, a child, crying because he's afraid to die. Then they go to Vasselheim, the city of the gods, and see the corpse of a Titan, the dead thing the gods killed, yanked out of the earth and puppeted by one wannabe god and now desecrated in death by the overconfident followers of all the others. They're making something beautiful out of it, they're living on it, and normally he'd be in favor of that but they don't even know its name. They're building new temples on the corpse of the old world, hollowing it out and starting fresh, and Ashton is a part of that old world. They cannot stop being connected to a power the gods seem to, at best, be willing to weaponize. That would make anyone paranoid; given their background it's impressive that he's not more combative, tbh.
