this is. a timeline. of the canon events of the resident evil series, with way too much detail because I have way too much time on my hands. please message me if I forgot something important, otherwise enjoy, thanks for stopping by <3<br />a note btw: I left out a few spin off games and such that don't have any/much bearing on the main story, also I tried to simplify things a bit by reducing the number of different terms used to refer to effectively the same thing. if something is confusing or poorly worded please let me know!

June 29, 2013: Fighting their way through a city full of zombies, Leon and Helena make their way to the cathedral where Helena claims they can find Deborah, aided in navigation by Ingrid Hunnigan. In the process, Hunnigan informs them that an organization calling itself Neo Umbrella has claimed responsibility for the attack. They find a lab with ties to Neo Umbrella hidden by the cathedral they were headed for, and inside, strange information regarding the “birth” of Ada Wong. They have little time to investigate further, however, and soon find Deborah deeper within the facility.

June 29, 1013: Elsewhere in Tall Oaks, Ada Wong has found Simmons’ lab, where she confirms the information Carla had originally given her. Now knowing she has a doppelganger running around, she decides she must find her and put an end to her charade. As she is leaving, she comes across Leon and Helena, right as it becomes apparent that Deborah had been infected with the C virus, and she mutates. The trio manages to defeat her, but ultimately she dies after falling off a cliff– Helena had tried to catch her, but, seeing her sister was gone and only a monster remained, she was forced to let her go. Helena explains that Derek Simmons, a national security advisor and presidential aide, kidnapped her and Deborah and forced her to help him conduct the outbreak that has just taken place to save Deborah’s life. Ada gives them some information regarding Simmons’ connection to The Family, and then departs.

June 29, 2013: Leon and Helena escape the city of Tall Oaks, just in time to witness as it is destroyed on Simmons’ orders. He makes a public statement claiming that the bombing was to contain the outbreak, but it is apparent that it was only to destroy incriminating evidence against him within the city. He names Leon and Helena as the primary suspects for the outbreak, so Hunnigan helps them fake their deaths. The two swear to find Simmons and make him pay for what he has done, and as Hunnigan informs them that he is headed to China, they immediately leave to find him and bring him to justice.

June 30, 2013: As he is being transported by a group of J’avo, Jake Muller finds an opportunity to escape Neo Umbrella’s captivity. In the process, he shuts down power to the building, freeing Sherry. The two escape together, and Jake laments his parentage, blaming his genetics for his disposition. Sherry admonishes his defeatist attitude, emphasizing that he can only be defined by the actions he chooses to take. She is able to make contact with the U.S. government, and is given a location to meet Simmons in Lanshiang. They make their way to the rendezvous point, but are soon surrounded by Neo Umbrella’s forces once again. Thankfully, they are rescued by Chris and Piers’ BSAA squad. Though Piers wants to escort them to their destination, Chris insists they resume their pursuit of Ada, single minded in his quest for vengeance. Sherry agrees to part ways with them, having been ordered by Simmons to avoid contact with others.

June 30, 2013: Chris and Piers’ squad is attacked by a large BOW with the ability to turn invisible, which whittles them down to just three before they are able to kill it– Chris and Piers themselves, and another soldier named Marco. As they flee, Chris is consumed by his hatred, and can only focus on finding and killing Ada. Piers confronts him, demanding that he get his head on straight and remember that their mission was always to help people, never to seek vengeance. It seems he has gotten through to Chris, but at that moment, they are ambushed by Carla, who shoots Marco with a needle gun, infecting him with the C virus and transforming him into a large BOW they must fight.

June 30, 2013: Meanwhile, Leon and Helena have arrived over Lanshiang, but there is a C virus outbreak aboard their plane, causing it to crash. Leon and Helena, the only survivors, encounter Sherry and Jake, who saw the plane going down and came to investigate. Leon reveals the truth of the Tall Oaks outbreak to Sherry, who is hesitant to believe him. Jake threatens Leon in Sherry’s defense, but Sherry explains that Leon once saved her life, during the Raccoon City outbreak. She decides to trust his word over Simmons’, and she tells him where he can find Simmons. Before they can make a plan, they are attacked by the Ustanak, which is still pursuing Sherry and Jake. They are separated from Leon and Helena in the ensuing fight, and agree to meet up later once the situation has been dealt with.

June 30, 2013: Ada Wong arrives in Lanshiang, searching for her imposter and information on her creation. On top of having to avoid the BSAA, she has to contend with a number of bioweapons while in the city. During a fight, she inadvertently sends a BOW in the direction of Sherry and Jake, and sticks around to shoot it, buying them time to escape as she goes her own way. Around the same time, the BSAA spots “Ada” elsewhere in the city, and Chris and Piers go after her, resulting in a high speed car chase.

June 30, 2013: Chris and Piers catch up to “Ada,” and have her cornered. It seems Chris intends to kill her, but Leon and Helena happen to run into the building at the same time, having been chased by BOWs. Leon stops Chris (they fight), and the two get into a heated argument as Leon attempts to explain that Simmons was truly responsible for the attacks, while Chris insists it was Ada who killed his comrades several months ago. They fight, and “Ada” uses the opportunity to throw a smoke bomb and escape. Following the tense moment, Leon reminds Chris that he needs to bring her in for questioning, not kill her. It was kind of a gay moment, ngl, and Chris decides to trust him, agreeing to arrest her when he finds her. Chris and Piers leave to pursue “Ada” as Leon and Helena resume their pursuit of Simmons.

June 30, 2013: Sherry and Jake reach the rendezvous point they had set with Leon and Helena, just in time to witness as Simmons attempts to kill them. In the ensuing fight, Simmons confesses to his role in the outbreaks, nearly killing Sherry as well, who is narrowly saved by Jake. Leon orders the two of them to escape, knowing that Jake’s antibodies are the key to creating a C virus vaccine and ending the outbreak. Leon and Helena launch into the fight with Simmons, determined to bring him down both for their own personal losses and for the crimes he has committed against countless civilians. As they fight, a J’avo infects him with an Enhanced C virus on Carla’s orders, and he mutates into a large monster. Leon and Helena manage to kill him, but in the time it takes them, Sherry and Jake are overwhelmed by J’avos in their attempt to escape and are recaptured by Neo Umbrella.

June 30, 2013: Chris and Piers pursue “Ada” onto an aircraft carrier that has been taken over by Neo Umbrella. They fight through the ranks of J’avos and BOWs on the carrier to stop her from launching a C virus missile over the city. They narrowly manage to abort the launch, and pursue “Ada” to the deck of the carrier. As they attempt to arrest her, she is shot down by a helicopter from The Family. Chris and Piers take the case full of Enhanced C virus samples she was carrying, in the hopes that it will be useful in vaccine research. Unfortunately, a failsafe sequence is activated on the carrier, and the missile rearms. They are unable to stop its launch a second time.

June 30, 2013: While Chris and Piers were pursuing “Ada,” the real Ada infiltrated a Neo Umbrella facility and discovered her double’s real identity as Carla Radames. She pursues Carla to the carrier, but finds she has already been killed. However, her body reanimates, as she had infected herself with the Enhanced C virus moments prior to her death. Despite Ada’s attempts to reason with her, Carla declares that she is the true Ada, and attempts to kill the real Ada, mutating into a large monster that fuses with the carrier. Ada manages to defeat her, and makes her escape as the carrier sinks.

June 30, 2013: Chris contacts Leon to inform him of the inbound missile. As they attempt to escape, Leon shares the information Sherry had given him about Jake, including his parentage and his C virus antibodies. He requests that Chris rescue him and Sherry from the Neo Umbrella facility where they are being held, and Chris agrees to do so. Before Leon and Helena are able to escape the city, the C virus missile makes impact, and the streets are flooded with zombies. Cornered, it seems they won't be able to escape, until they are rescued by Ada, who clears a path for them from a helicopter. She then flies to Neo Umbrella headquarters, where she has her own agenda– to delete any information they had about her and the cloning process that turned Carla into her doppelganger.

June 30, 2013: Leon and Helena are picked up by a BSAA helicopter, but it is caught in a series of explosions occurring on the ground, and the pilot is infected with the C virus and becomes a zombie. The chopper crashes into the Neo Umbrella HQ tower, where Leon and Helena discover that Simmons survived their previous altercation. He mutates again, becoming an even larger monster. From her chopper, Ada assists them in the ensuing fight. Once Simmons goes down, they follow Ada to the roof. Helena makes a remark about Leon being in love with Ada, which he's endearingly awkward about, but the lighthearted moment is cut short as an explosion destroys the external lift they had taken. They then see that Simmons has survived yet again, and Ada is engaged in combat with him, atop a network of bridges connecting the tower to nearby buildings. The two shoot at Simmons from afar, but are forced to stay on the move as the tower crumbles. By the time they manage to get close, Ada has been knocked out by Simmons. Leon is able to reach her, defending her as Helena provides cover fire. She soon comes to, and rejoins the fight. In the ensuing battle, Leon is nearly thrown from a skybridge by Simmons, but Ada tackles him, knocking him down to the streets below before swinging off to another section of the building using a grappling gun. She sends Leon a message saying she’s left her helicopter on the roof for them to escape in, then disappears. Helena encourages Leon to go after her, but Leon remains with Helena, and the two make their way to the roof together.

June 30, 2013: Ada returns to Neo Umbrella headquarters, and true to her word purges all the information on her, Carla, and the cloning process from their computer system. She makes her way to the lab where Carla had compiled the research on the Ada Project, and destroys everything, including a C virus cocoon in the process of hatching some humanoid being. As she makes her escape from the crumbling tower, she receives a job offer from a mysterious new employer, which she accepts with a cool smile.

June 30, 2013: Before Leon and Helena have reached the roof, an even larger Simmons climbs up the side of the tower, absorbing nearby zombies and becoming a truly gigantic, insectoid monster. Think Mothra. Leon manages to stick a lightning rod from the roof into his head, getting him struck by lightning and causing him to fall to the ground However, he recovers as they reach the roof. Using the grenade launcher Ada left in her helicopter, Leon is able to shoot Simmons in the head multiple times, causing him to once more. This time, as he plummets, the zombies he absorbed fall away, and he is impaled on a decorative obelisk in the center of the Neo Umbrella seal on the ground floor. He bleeds a cartoonish amount, causing the yellow lighted portions of the logo to turn to the typical Umbrella red. It was a neat visual, despite the absurdity of it all. With Simmons finally, finally dead, the two make their escape, finding that Ada left them a makeup compact concealing an SD card containing all the evidence necessary to posthumously convict Simmons of his crimes, and by extension clear their names.

June 30, 2013: Chris and Piers arrive on the oil rig off the coast of Lanshiang where Sherry and Jake were supposedly taken, and enter the massive underwater facility it is concealing. Once inside, they manage to free Sherry and Jake using the facility’s computer system, but in the process discover that Carla had programmed the facility to self-destruct in the event that she died before she was able to release Haos, a massive bioweapon housed in the lab that will be capable of spreading the C virus to the entire world within weeks. As they search for a way to stop it, they meet Sherry and Jake. Chris’ PTSD guilt gets the better of him, and he confesses to Jake that he not only knew his father, but was also the one to kill him. In response, Jake pulls a gun on him, despite having stated multiple times that he didn’t care for his father even before he knew who he was, and definitely not being a fan of his whole almost-ended-the-world thing. Chris just stands there and lets Jake shoot near his face, though this is in character, because he’s depressed as all hell. Piers nearly attacks Jake, but Sherry puts a stop to the conflict, reminding them that they need to act like human beings and figure out how to deal with the crisis at hand. At that moment, Haos is awoken, and the self-destruct sequence begins, with numerous explosions rocking the facility. They are soon separated by an explosion, and Chris tells Sherry to escape with Jake so a vaccine for the C virus can be made, as he and Piers deal with Haos. The pair make their way towards the surface, but are attacked by the Ustanak, which has tracked them to the facility. They are able to kill it together, and escape to the surface. Still underwater, Chris and Piers witness Haos emerge from a nearly 200-foot C virus cocoon, learning that it is merely in the stages of infancy as they desperately search for a way to kill it. They soon run out of time, as Haos begins to chase them through the facility. They are eventually cornered, and both sustain heavy injuries in the ensuing fight. Piers is caught in an explosion, and a piece of rubble pins his right arm, nearly severing it. As Chris tries to defend him, he is caught by Haos and nearly killed. Desperate, Piers manages to reach the case of Enhanced C virus samples they had taken from Carla Radames’ body, and injects himself. He mutates, gaining the ability to fire powerful electrical impulses from his damaged arm, which has become a trident-like appendage. He is able to incapacitate Haos and save Chris, but as the pair make their way to the facility’s escape pods, knowing that his mutation will worsen in time and he will lose his mind, Piers decides to stay behind. At the last possible second, he shoves Chris into an escape pod and launches it before he is able to stop him. As the pod heads towards the surface, Haos comes flying after it, only to be electrocuted by Piers from the escape pod bay. It falls back into the lab just in time to be caught in the massive explosion resulting from its self-destruct, destroying it for good. Chris makes it to the surface alone as the new day dawns, clutching the BSAA patch Piers tore off his jacket and gave to Chris before he died. With this reminder of the purpose behind their fight, Chris decides to continue on, rather than retire as he originally intended.
