I Am the Storm 🌩 is a dystopian, young adult book where people can have telekinetic powers and a corrupt government strives to control and harness these powers whilst a rebellion tries to fight back from the outside - in. We get to read from the point of view of both Serena, the rebellions youngest ever inducted operative and Sam a technopath (someone who can control technology) who is on the run from the corrupt government. Serena rescues Sam to help the rebellions cause 💪 The characters are quirky, funny and have their own sweetness and distinct personalities. I also like that Tash was ruthlessly realistic in terms of character injuries🙈 This is not a happy fairytale but what I'd consider an accurate depiction of the losses and pain sufferred during a time of conflict. The pacing was off for me😩 Initially the story starts with lots of action and holds your interest. A few chapters in I found the book lagging and losing any meaning and quite a lot of dialogue that didn't progress the plot or really help with characterisation. Saying that, it did pick up again near the end when the action revs back up a gear and finishes with a cliffhanger 💁 I would have given this book 4 or 5 stars based on the writing style and characters and plot potential but unfortunately the pacing issue above and certain elements of the plot that were left totally untouched (family members missing, reactions to infamous peoples deaths, a point of view from the institution hunting the telekinetics) brought it down to a 3 star book. They’d been on the roofs of other people’s buildings, catching the front door with a warm smile behind people not afraid of strangers. They circled blocks looking for an entrance into boarded-up megaplexes, they climbed fire escapes and fences with hammers  hidden in their coats to pull up plywood coverings, rip through construction scaffolding, and loosen chains enough to slide under. This was different; when they broke into old movie theaters or abandoned strip malls, they took great care to not disturb anything or anyone. Walking into Thundertown was to disturb it.

Editing round two DONE~! Much less to do than the first round, no more rewrites which was good because, you know, nanowrimo...  Like I said before, I actually had fun rewriting and things can flow so much better with just a few little tweaks. Now the editor’s sending my book baby off to be copy edited and then it still needs to be proofread and quality verified. So many pieces to the editing process~! I had no idea!  Anyway, I’m excited! Should be coming out in the first half of the New Year!

Book Review: M.D. Neu’s Contact

Good Morning Everyone! 

For this week's recommendation, let's do a good old fashioned book review! 

This week's book review is quite special to me. M.D. Neu is a great friend of mine, and he's super talented. This is the first book in his series titled "Contact." 

The world is shaken when they learn they are not alone. The story follows Todd and his husband Jerry as they try to figure out their place in this ever-changing world and all the new surprises these aliens bring with them.

It's back to book posting! 💫 Whilst I really enjoyed the overall plot of this book and the dystopian jungle setting I felt this book moved way too fast to feel anything or really connect 😩 The plot is fast paced but to the point I felt things were skimmed over🤷 Because of this I feel like we also missed out on a good initial world and character building because it just jumps straight into the action. This might not be an issue for some that enjoy very fast paced, quick reads but I personally enjoy having a bit more of a connection with characters or the world so I need that build up to really enjoy a book.
