Okay, Netflix’s Platform 2 movie.

Firstly, the way they had me all for the wholesome relationship between Tragic Sad Woman and Giant Slob Man is unforgivable 😭

Secondly, the core motto of everyone in this movie is: “Don’t make me come down there and beat you with pieces of my prison bed frame” and that’s simply wild.

Watched the first part when it came out about 5 years ago and loved the concept

Why tf does every movie similar to this thinks they need a self-proclaimed Jesus..?

I actually asked Google to explain the ending to me.. and I have to say even though it is a good concept I don't think the story needed another movie tbh - it was just background noise for me

I've ranted a whole lot about the importance of physical media in the past. I love physical media. I have a CD and vinyl collection of stuff from my favorite bands, and am currently getting back into reading and found I vastly prefer physical books over both ebooks and audiobooks. I got the entire DVD box of ATLA last year just so that I can watch it whenever I like.

But it took me until today to realize that the reason why is because of how badly all these digital streaming service-platforms have affected me.

Like, I found art from a webcomic a while ago that I thought looked really interesting, but have been putting off reading the thing for MONTHS. I couldn't quite put my finger on why until I found out yesterday that there are printed, physical copies for sale of the entire webcomic itself in book format. And despite absolutely insane shipping costs, I could at some point buy it, and keep it.

And now I finally started reading it, and I'm loving it.

Turns out, I would rather put myself through sickening, nauseating FOMO than risk the piece of media getting taken off the platform it's available on in the middle of me reading/watching it.

Mini-review:

Look, The Platform 2 isn't a bad movie, it just feels... unnecessary. The first one was so impactful and memorable precisely because of its simplicity. Therefore, by adding so much lore and mythology here, they just overcomplicated the concept. The original film never shone for its subtlety, but now there's not an single ounce of it left, and sometimes its ideas end up kind of muddled. Still, these flaws are mostly compensated by its propulsive pace, stunning imagery and powerful performances. I do believe Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia has a lot of potential as a filmmaker, but I really hope he doesn't return to this world unless he comes up with something truly worth telling.

The more I think about it, the more mad I get. Netflix spent $0 on promo and put the season 2 premier in between the release of a lot of big titles that got a ton of promotion KNOWING those titles would get more attention but somehow IT STILL SUCCEEDED. Their attempt to make Warrior Nun go unnoticed so that they could cancel it due to “bad analytics” is so blatant it’s disgusting. They truly have no excuse for this cancellation and I hope Simon is able to move it to another platform
