#Nanoka the Ayakashi

At first I thought this was going to be a Tenko situation - like this lady’s a woman living her life but just so happens to be an Ayakashi, so when her secret’s found out she takes action to protect herself…

I thought this must be her accepting the situation in a sort of “I know how this song and dance goes”, kill or be killed viewpoint you know?

Turns out she’s just possessed, which is good for Nanoka since there’s possibly something she can do about it without murdering anyone/thing - and Nanoka does need more experience in the exorcising side of things - but I still think it’s a shame.

Having this be a friendly Ayakashi who feels pushed to violence would be an interesting morale quandary for Nanoka. From an outside perspective, all we really know about this woman is that she likes omnoming rats. Who’s to say Tenko isn’t doing the same on her downtime? If she was accidentally found out by ordinary people, would she also feel pressured to erase the evidence and continue her peaceful life?

In the end, it all comes back to me wanting More Tenko ;^;

🐸 This is an OC I made for Mao. She's a healer ayakashi and a cosmetician that specializes in natural balms and creams. She also uses a clay mask spell to create a human form for herself. She visits Tenko at Milk House from time to time and stays around the clinic woth nanoka, who she is very fond of.

MAO Volume 8

With the volume 8 of MAO on to bookstores I feel it necessary a recap of its content.To make proper review too.

Below:Natsuno testifies about the jaki during the awful night

After the failure in Shiranui’s temple to save Masago the whole team listens to Natsuno.She recalls the night when the jaki struck down Sana, killing her and ripping her heart.Plus Hakubi immediately blamed Mao for the crime,thus branding Him as a traitor. Very soon Mao and Nanoka have a heated argument, regarding his obsession about the long ago dead Sana.

Nanoka after just feels it absolutely embarassing,wishing to make up for him.But the how turns it’s Mao who takes her to thier Romantic date:)

Some days later a series of murders gets publicly noticed,so Maonoka go to investigate,soon they save a young man from the attack of a ayakashi beast.The man is named kagami Souma,he tells them the beast is originated from a distant ancestor. And the arc goes with Souma intentionally luring Mao to an ambush,with such twist of event where Nanoka gives a fight against  Souma hereby saving Mao

My sense

Natsuno is an Interesting onmyoji,testifying to Mao team that the Jaki killed of Sana,and that immediately Hakubi had a weird role in to all the awry time.It’s a reliefe the knowledge Mao hadn’t kill her off.Then again the recall leaves serious questions :

a)How come Yurako has the same face with Sana?

b)Why is she the ally of Shiranui?

c)Why did Hakubi blame Mao for Sana’s murder?

Pause here.So we can understand the wholesome way Maonoka make up for each other.It’s mao proven a mature man,he goes first to Nanoka,their romantic date goes smoothly.All this has a maturity,the two reconcile,none keeps mad at the other.No more to the usual things taking place in Urusei Yatsura,Ranma 1/2 and InuYasha.

“No good deed goes unpunished”.This really got my attention too.

Now to the most disgusting sides of reality:

Maonoka did care for Souma and save him from the Beast using,however Souma’s obstinate to keep the Beast.And more,he’s willing to join Hakubi to become a beast user.So that’s why he lead the unsuspicious Mao into the Ambush,and pinned him with a Gokou tool the Puppet needle.This tool can manipulate Mao and turn him in to his  beast form. Yearn

As Hyakka awoke from his nap, a thought crossed his mind concerning Mao.

When Hyakka awoke, he was amazed to find the steady almost endless stream of patients lessened into a trickle. Only a few aimless yōkai and ayakashi came through harping at the top of their lungs over an illness or a piece of news they wanted to gossip over. Attempts to fall into a pocket of sleep were thwarted by one conversation after another.

One-sided as they were, considering the person of interest spoke in a hushed gentle voice not unlike stablehands tending to spooked horses. Cracking one eye, Hyakka peered through sleep’s veil toward the young doctor perched upon a stool aside an aging desk laden with the tools of his profession. Shoulders rolled back, head held high and lips twitching upward every so often at a story told - Mao was the perfect listener.

Hyakka sighed internally. 

He always had been the perfect listener. 

Even when they were young, and Hyakka attempted to drag him into one confrontation after the other - show him the fruits of his labor - Mao followed along, surely knowing the outcome. No matter how many scoldings Hyakka received from their tongue-wagging elders, Mao came to his side again and again.

Pain pricked the length of Hyakka’s arm and he rolled onto his back to alleviate the strain. It was strange. Over the years, he’d grown accustomed to all sorts of pains and annoyances. Fights weren’t an uncommon occurrence even in the circus. Yet, no matter how many times he fell, he always got up with this feeling of death looming —

He willed himself not to look toward Mao at the thought. Hearing the distant laughter of the patient he was speaking to, and his own polite chuckles.

You can still find it in yourself to laugh?

Turning his head toward the rows of cabinets and drawers, now neatly arranged without their contents spilling out, he made a mental note to ask Mao how he managed to create such a loyal shikigami.

Most of his own were as destructive as they were helpful but the shikigami in Mao’s employ seemed happy, if not wholly intent, on helping him at every turn. Hyakka was sure he’d even heard him scolding Mao once.

Can a guy with that much talent really be a nobody?

Flashes of fire, yelling, a beloved body and spirit ripped from this world - the voices shouting that it was Mao. It was him who did it — him who killed her.

Why else would their teacher want him dead?

Was it obvious to everyone from the start that Mao was that kind of person? That he would betray them at some point, just like Mozuku?

Hyakka-sama, take care of yourself.

Mao, dark-haired and brown-eyed, the swells of his cheeks betraying his youth even though he was a few years Hyakka’s senior. Those eyes reflected a world unseen to him but they weren’t filled with contempt or exasperation. Only concern as he took in the bandages on Hyakka’s arms and waved to him from his place by their teacher’s horse. Hyakka only turned his nose up and stormed away, but on the inside -

“Well, I’ll see you next time, Mao-sama!”

“Mm, take care.”

The door’s bell chimed and thrust Hyakka from his thoughts. Slowly, carefully, he pushed himself up to his elbows and scanned the room. It’d been cleaned entirely and that girl - Nanoka - was tucked into Mao’s bedding fast asleep. Hyakka grumbled to himself. Why did she get to lay on it when he was the one who did all of the heavy lifting?

Hyakka, you should be kind to girls.

His heart stuttered at that voice. Soft as a spring rain, yet warmer than a flame during the coldest of nights, it haunted him like the tender brush of an ember against the palm of his hands — easy to summon, but difficult to hold onto.

Sana-sama..

“Hyakka-sama,” a voice from his memory overlapped with the one from his present, carefully drawing him from his thoughts and into the simultaneously cramped and spacious room of Mao’s office. The man in question, stared at him from his desk, keeping a respectable distance although the slight twitch in his finger spoke of a desire to do otherwise. “Is everything alright?”

For someone who shouldn’t trust him, he was oddly careful and worrying. It almost made him sick to his stomach. How could he act like that after what he’d done?

I have no memories of that time.

The simmering ire immediately doused. Mao’s eyes then, it reminded him of how he’d looked nine hundred years ago. Lost and confused but yearning for something. To know or to be accepted, Hyakka wasn’t sure.

Hyakka clenched his jaw and flopped down. “Mind your own business,” he said firmly. Grasping the hem of the garment tossed over him, he drew it up to his chin and focused his gaze on the windows. The glass was cool and dark. Night must have fallen sometime when he’d been asleep. Had Mao been working the entire time?

The dismissal wasn’t answered by a rebuke or anything at all. Curiosity had gotten the better of him and he glanced aside, both surprised and annoyed at being given Mao’s back to view. His shoulders moved fluidly and the krrch-krrch-krrch of a grinding pestle filled the air. It’d be difficult to get back to sleep but at least Mao wasn’t asking him any uncomfortable questions. Or treading any closer than what he’d been already.

Hyakka tucked his arms behind his head and stared up at the ceiling, content to let the minutes tick by to the sound of Mao grinding the herbs in the mortar. After the second hour passed, he had to consider the countless drawers and jars. Did he make all of them by hand? How long did that take and how much did he need? It sounded like a painfully long process and to do it in silence was even more aggravating. Although with his eyes closed, the sound was bearable and even somewhat soothing —

“It must be hard,” Hyakka said abruptly, interrupting the stillness surrounding them.

The grinding stopped, and Mao’s quiet voice answered. “Hard?”

“For those idiots to be depending on you all the time,” Hyakka clarified, dismissing the soft snort from Mao. Was he always that cheeky even when they were younger? It was easy to miss but still. “Back where I was, everyone knew better than to force their problems off on me.”

Although he was the Fire Head User, he could still be a bit of a hothead sometimes. Everyone knew to keep their distance and he could come and go as he pleased.

“As expected of Hyakka-sama.”

Hyakka tensed, whipping around hard enough that his shoulder ached at the movement. “What’s that supposed to mean!?”

Mao hadn’t turned to face him and that only incited his anger even more.

“I don’t mind though,” Mao said, turning the pestle in his hand before the steady krrch-krrch-krrch started again.

Hyakka frowned. There were a multitude of questions rolling about in his mind. What did he mean by ‘he didn’t mind’? What was his reason for starting up this place to begin with? What did he get out of it? For all the people he hurt during the Gokou Family’s fall, for the one that he killed that he should have loved more than anything —

What was this supposed to be?

Hyakka glanced aside at the girl - Nanoka - still sleeping soundly. Even her, what was Mao’s purpose in keeping her around? They were connected, both ayakashi, but —

She’s not Sana-sama.

“Do you want to?” Hyakka asked, likely faltering Mao’s pace when he heard a light clatter against the inside of the mortar. Determination and desire linked together and threatened to burn his insides from how many questions wanted to spill from his lips. “Are you trying to atone —”

“Hyakka-sama,” Mao interjected and the crisp snap of his voice immediately gave Hyakka pause.

Tension thickened the air and for a moment, Hyakka wondered if this was it. Mao’s breaking point. Where they’d finally settle what they should have outside of the Ryounkaku. Heat trickled down into his palms and a budding flame began to bloom between his fingertips. Mao slowly turned, and Hyakka held his breath when he saw a sliver of brown peek from beneath white bangs. The scar bisecting his eye scrunched as Mao’s eyes narrowed, his lips parting and Hyakka stiffened up.

“You should sleep longer,” Mao said, almost seeming exasperated and weary, one thin dark brown raised. “It almost sounds as if you’re concerned.”

Apprehension bled out of Hyakka like water slipping from the mouth of a jug. Mao held his gaze for a moment longer then turned away, resuming his work as if nothing happened.

Did he really do it? How can he be so calm?

Hyakka gritted his teeth and growled in frustration, flopping down and curling up on his side. “Forget it!”

He closed his eyes tightly and pressed his fist to his forehead, letting the flame go out.

Give me an answer, Mao.

The moment seemed to slip away and Hyakka curled up tighter, holding his trembling fist to his chest.

“Time Slip”, a ‘MAO’ au

Sooo.... I had this dream... well, a couple dreams, that basically revolved around Heian-era Mao being the soft young man he is, and feisty Nanoka coming along and turning his world upside down. Turned out that scenario became an angsty semi-au, and this fic was born. I don’t plan on leaving it a oneshot - I would love to write more for this. It pains me, cuz it’s gonna get complicated, but I wanna continue this.

Nanoka shivered, rubbing her bare arms and wishing she’d brought a cardigan with her uniform. It hadn’t been too cold in the modern era, but the moment she’d passed through the gate… well, the sudden burst of panic she'd felt at seeing the other side had left all practical thoughts behind. It was only early October back home, but the air here in the Taisho era was bitter cold. At least… she assumed it was still the Taisho era. Where once had been the rubble of Gougyou town was now empty, desolate farmland. Simple shacks and huts stood next to the gate, which had become a looming red shrine.

Fear had seized her, and at once she took off with a yell. “MAO!” Her white sneakers threw clouds of dust into the dry air as she hurried down the village’s dirt road. “Mao! Otoya!” Nanoka’s blood burned, her skin prickling as she felt her adrenaline pick up. The change was coming, and she welcomed it. Rice paddies and rows of crops sped by as wind whistled in her ears; the cold air didn’t bother her anymore, instead pushing her to run faster and further in her search for her friends. They had to be here. She wouldn’t accept that they weren’t! Whatever had happened to the gate, wherever it had taken her, she wouldn’t let it take them away.

Suddenly the crisp air became tinged with smoke, and Nanoka stumbled to a halt as she caught the smell of incense: this was no peasants fire. Hope bubbled up inside her, hope that perhaps her Onmyouji friend was working some spell to get this place back to normal, to make the gate work like it was supposed to… maybe even to find her. She took off at a steady pace, following the scent with her curse-enhanced senses, veering off the dirt road into thick trees speckled orange and red.

The sun traveled behind clouds high above her, but even behind its harsh white cover, she could tell it would be setting soon. She wished she had her phone, or even the clock on Mao’s clinic wall to tell her the time – but her bag had been dropped at the gate entrance, and the clinic and everything in it vanished. Wherever she was, she didn’t like the idea of being here after dark. Nanoka pressed forward, until the trees began to thin, and new forms began to rise above them: buildings. There were rooftops beyond the farthest trees. Old-fashioned, slanted wooden rafters in a classical mansion style. The closer Nanoka got, the more awed she felt. It was like seeing a samurai castle in its glory days, or stepping into the Tale of Genji. The smell of incense became more powerful, almost overwhelming, and Nanoka slowed her approach.

If this really was a mansion, then whoever maintained it should be able to tell her more about where she was and what had happened to Gougyou town. And if Mao was really the source of the smoke as she hoped… she’d have a thing or two to say to him, and then she’d probably have an embarrassing break down.

Nanoka followed the tendrils of white smoke through the trees surrounding the mansion complex; it spread out in all directions so that she could never really see the edge. But here someone had found the edge after all, and Nanoka crept forward until she spotted a figure seated on the ground outside the building compound, surrounded by candles, ropes, paper, and symbols drawn in the dirt. It was a young man, his broad shoulders stiff and straight and soft voice murmuring over the thin candles in the ground. He wore blue robes in the old Heian style… Nanoka pondered that they looked like the ones Mao had worn when he’d fought the flea-demon-nuns. This man wore his hair similar to Mao’s as well: a long ponytail at his nape – only his hair was jet black and tidy in comparison to the ragged doctor.

She continued to watch in silent fascination as the mysterious man worked various incantations over the materials he’d brought, winding the rope and folding the paper, until Nanoka began to realize he was only making simple wards. From all the smoke and magic she’d thought this would be some grand, miraculous summoning – but this was nothing more than a priest making good luck charms to keep away evil spirits. Nanoka couldn’t help it: she laughed. And suddenly the young man turned around.

The gasp that tore from her throat was painful. All that running in the cold autumn air had been fine – refreshing even! Seeing Mao’s eyes, so bright and young and free of the pain almost a thousand years had inflicted, staring back at her from a face free of scars knocked the wind from her lungs. It was him: unmistakably, undeniably, and yet… it wasn’t. This wasn’t the Mao she had met in the Taisho era as she ran from a giant Mantis, this wasn’t the Mao who had patched up her arm and told her she was an ayakashi. This wasn’t the Mao who had put blood on her cheek and sent crazed demon nuns after her, who had transformed into a beast before her very eyes… who had tried to save her child self, had sent a shikigami to protect her in the future, had asked her to stay with him, even if it was just as an assistant….

Mao continued to watch her shadowed form warily through the trees, and Nanoka swallowed hard. If her guess was correct, this Mao wouldn’t do any of that for another 900 years.

“What are you doing here, Ayakashi?”

She startled. Somewhere in her musings, she’d forgotten that this Mao was still a living, breathing human and not some phantom of the past. “Uh…” she’d also forgotten about the transformation brought by Byouki’s blood… and about Mao’s exorcist duties as an Onmyouji. She was in trouble now. “Look, I’m… I’m not really an ayakashi, okay?” she began, stepping out from the shadowy trees and clutching a hand to her chest. “I’m just a human who got cursed, and… uh…. Excuse me?”

Her explanation ground to a halt as this Heian-era Mao did something Nanoka had never seen her Mao do: he looked her up and down… and blushed a bright pink. Mao turned away slightly, a voluminous sleeve coming up to block his view of her, and a somewhat rushed version of his usual calm voice rang out “Forgive me, miss. I did not realize your state of undress. If you will wait here, I can fetch you something from the mansion. I… apologize, you must be cold as well. You should have a hot drink, as well as a meal.”

Nanoka stood motionless, unable to believe either her ears at his flustered tone or her eyes at his flushed face. The Mao she knew would never have reacted to her uniform like this or shown such concern for her being in a short skirt out in the cold. ‘Of course’, she thought sullenly, ‘I don’t actually know this Mao, do I? I guess a person really changes over 900 years. He’s acting more like Shiraha-kun would than an experienced doctor.’

Mao lowered his arm but refused to look at her, bending instead to gather his materials in preparation to leave. She hoped it would be to find food and clothing for her, but she had to remind herself they’d only met moments ago – he didn’t know her, and she was starting to think she might know him even less. Her mind grappled for something to hold onto, something to tie them together in this foreign place, and she said suddenly “I’m not feeling well.”

He paused in the motion of dousing the incense in the dirt, and very cautiously rose to look back at her. Nanoka gripped the hem of her skirt, biting her lip to hide a smile. That was an expression she recognized: the concern of a doctor for an ailing patient. “It’s this curse I have. Is there anyone here who could help me?”

He stared at her, his brown eyes searching and intense, but after a moment his shoulders slumped and he admitted “This place is not very welcoming of outsiders. I’m afraid you wouldn’t find much help. You see, it’s training grounds for Onmyouji. Demons, ayakashi… they’re not exactly welcome here unless it’s for target practice.” Nanoka saw the slight turn of his lip, and smiled, glad to see his dry humor had always been part of him. “Of course, the way of onmyoudo does include healing arts… it’s not practiced nearly enough as curses. A shame if you ask me.” He turned his head as if this was nothing more than a mild annoyance to him, but Nanoka was starting to see beyond the innocence of this younger Mao. She was starting to recognize a familiar soul, and that soul was crying to help others, not to hurt.

“But then…” she began tentatively, drawing his attention back to her and noticing amusedly how his eyes wandered to her bare legs, “you’ve been trained in those healing… whatever arts, right? You could help me, couldn’t you?” She could tell he was struggling not to respond ‘yes’ all at once, still torn by some code or rule to leave her stranded. Nanoka knew what would happen though, now that she’d said she needed the help. She’d seen it with clients who came to ‘Doctor Mao’ with everything from stomach bugs to murderous masters; this was part of who he was.

It was no surprise to her when he said softly “Yes, of course, I’ll help you the best I can. I warn you, I’m still in training, but there’s always somewhere to start. At the very least, you can warm up from this weather, Miss…”

“Nanoka” she replied quickly, taken aback by the gentleness in his voice and the fall of black bangs over his eyes. Perhaps it was the cold finally affecting her, but her cheeks were starting to feel warm, and her heart was beating fast.

“Nanoka-san” he replied with a slight bow. “I am Mao. It might be… a little improper, but you’re welcome to stay with me for a while, until I’ve had a chance to study your curse and perhaps find a cure for you. It’s dangerous for a human to be mistaken for a demon in these days.”

She nodded, her heart pounding in her chest as he said her name in that familiar voice, those words ‘stay with me’ echoing as though from a past life. ‘This is the past life’ she told herself harshly. ‘You can’t get involved here! This could ruin everything!’ Her thoughts abruptly shut off as Mao put down his tools and undid his blue suikan, draping it around Nanoka’s shoulders and folding it about her with some explanation about warmth that was lost amidst the drumming blood in her ears.

The last coherent thought she had as she followed Mao through the dim twilight, watching the cream-colored robes on his back as the two of them wove carefully around buildings to his room, was a sharp and panicked ‘I’m screwed.’

Today, May 8, Rumiko Takahashi’s new story ”Mao” began in Shonen Sunday. A new Rumik world began🎊🎉🎈🎂㊗️

Theory Time!

Nanoka's grandpa has been sealing/stealing her ayakashi powers. He makes her drink that gunk and it's immediately after this that the little boy asks Mao about it, and he gives his explanation about the "detox" and she yeets herself out of danger. @artistefish what say you?

I have read over a 100+ manga and this isnt even all of them. Some were poor reads which is why I didnt include them but here is my updated manga reads.

Thoughts On Takahashi’s new manga: Mao

I saw the obvious Inuyasha influence, but I also saw the striking resemblances to Takahashi’s short story: Fire Tripper. I think Takahashi has been meaning to expand on that time travel mechanic for awhile now which leads me to..

My head canon and theory is that Nanoka’s parents were whisked away to that boundary world when they fell in that cave in and are maybe still alive somewhere. I hope this is true.

So far the humor in the series falls flat for me with he smoothie thing, hoping that is short term, also is her  uncle rich or something? Why do they have a maid.

The fact that Mao wears western clothing makes me think this boundary world isn’t ancient Japan but maybe a mixture of cultures? In either case seeing Takahashi explore westernized history is exciting to say the least. This could also be turn of the century Japan or an alternate timeline.

Mao says that Nanoka is a Ayakashi, which lends me to believe she is the main hero, and the story is about HER growth with Mao as her master or ‘guide’ this is exciting since the role of hero tends to be male.

In the Beast’s Den

The New MAO Arc opened with a simple way,Mao responded to a mother’s Desperate Call. As he and Nanoka arrived they beheld the Ominous Case.Thus he performed  an exorcism to save the girl from a curse.As it unfolds High Stakes are revealed! Nanoka coming along with Mao,and even disguise for any investigation is a good ploy.Either to appear as a scholar to search in Shouko’s religious sect,either as a maid in a respectable salon.

But it’s now different:She’s been noticed by the Gokou.She also knows the stench of betrayal,such as of Kagami Souma of how someone won’t sweat just to get Power with not a bit of Morals.

On Mao’s plan Nanoka donned a borrowed sailor fuku,entered the School,confronted the  Girls perpetrator of the Curse.Kagari,assistant of metal user Hakubi!Would we thought Nanoka foolishly charge to Kagari and ask her Questions? Well Mao had anticipated troubles,so he provided her with a Protective talisman.

Kagari pinned down Nanoka,now assuming of being in Power Position   she states the reasons,Nanoka chan patiently listened to the story.Kagari stated it clearly:Hakubi doesn’t know about all this school cursing ,it’s a mixed of training and pleasure.Plus Her family is running curse Shop,all it’s Power derives from the Puppet Needle,they inherited it by an ancestor,ex pupil in the Gokou Manor.

Nanoka(albeit disgusted with the Mentality of Sadistic Curse doing)remained calm.Once She listened All the story she used the talisman,got free and raced on Kagari.At the same time Mao hears out in what kind of mess Nanoka chan’s got.

Points of the Arc:

Just how all things would’ve come,if Maonoka had gotten quite suspicious with the Kagami family? And with Souma’s Open eagerness for Beast Using too?By anticipating they would’ve searched this household and get the centuries old Scroll (see Kagami,or else as Ayakashi Beast Scroll arc),before Hakubi’s actions.Souma wouldn’t have betrayed Mao.Well,things came as we know them.

The Why Kagari is doing  school cursing,with no strategic plan,doesn’t diminish the seriousness. Maonoka don’t have any luxury to be lax,like the beginning of the Kagami arc.It’s so Vital for them to make it,with the Lessons from the past arcs. As long as the Houshou family possesses the Tool it can curse people,and She’s a valuable Asset of Hakubi.So Vital to Mao team to deprive the Houshou family of the Tool .

I had wondered for a while:Just for how long will Mao be on the tiresome run,the prey  of the Gokou and their underlings? Now comes this slight chance for Maonoka from  prey to become Hunters.

#The new MAO chapter is Quite Thrilling.Nanoka(disgusted with the Goku mischievous)decides to actively defend her friends.Cause She’s flying she surprises the Goku,certainly they had thought of her as “a weak human”.Luckily for the MAO team!:)

She immediatly takes Mao’s Hagunsei katana,fights the Enormus beast.But now Hakubi has decided to teleport,taking Mao along.He opens the Portal.

If they bring him to Yurako She’ll torture him before killing him.Later they’ll put the Subdue Needle to Nanoka,thus enslave her(:

ΜΑΟ,η Ισχυρή σειρά manga της Rumiko sama .

Η  μεγάλη δημιουργός  των manga,η Takahashi Rumiko(高橋 留美子),με την ικανότητα να δημιουργεί καταπληκτική ενήλικη μυθοπλασία,ύστερα από την μεγάλη επιτυχία  InuYasha,και το “Rinne No Kyoukai” δημιουργεί την σειρά ΜΑΟ (マオ),ένα έργο που βρίθει μυστηρίου.

Η τρέχουσα σειρά manga της Takahashi Rumiko, MAO(ιστορία και τέχνη)έχει δράση. Ωστόσο στον πυρήνα της ιστορίας-βαθύτερα από ταξίδι στο χρόνο,μαγεία,αποκρυφισμός, συναντήσεις με ayakashi-είναι οι σχέσεις των πρώην συμμαθητών έχουν στραβώσει,συν ο πόνος ενός άνδρα και η θλίψη του για τον φόνο της αγαπημένης του. Ολόκληρη η πλοκή βασίζεται σε γεγονότα που συνέβησαν στα τέλη της περιόδου Heian της Ιαπωνίας(1000 μ.Χ.), πριν από τα παρόντα γεγονότα.

Ξεκινά  με την Ιαπωνέζα Kiba Nanoka,έφηβη μαθήτρια,η οποία πριν από 8 χρόνια γλύτωσε από μια παραλίγο θανάσιμη εμπειρία-λόγω κάποιων υπερφυσικών συνθηκών.

Το θυμάται, παρ’όλο που δεν μπορούσε να καταλάβει τους λόγους και τις συνθήκες.Τώρα δεκαπέντε χρονών, μεταφέρθηκε στην εποχή Taishou,κυνηγιεται από ένα  ανθρωποφάγο ayakashi, αλλά σώζεται χάρις τον μυστηριώδη Mao—έναν νεαρό άνδρα αυτής της εποχής.

Καθώς η μαθήτρια χρησιμοποιεί την χρονοπύλη να επισκεφτεί τον Mao(για να λάβει τις απαντήσεις γιατί ο πρώτος της θάνατός) γίνεται φίλη του. Τι περισσότερο; Της αρέσει:) Τώρα τα δύο ορφανά συνεργάζονται για να εξιχνιάσουν το μυστηριώδες σχέδιο στο παρελθόν του,που μετέτρεψε τους φίλους του σε Εκδικητικούς διώκτες Του.

Η καταγωγ�� και η θλίψη

Ο Μάο γεννήθηκε στην Ιαπωνία,το 1000 μ.Χ,της περιόδου Heian.. Η πρώιμη ζωή του ξεκίνησε ένα ορφανοτροφείο, με πολλές κακουχίες,την ίδια στιγμή ακόνιζε τις ικανότητές του και μάθαινε μαγικές τεχνικές. Στην εφηβεία του μπήκε σε ένα οικοτροφείο για onmyοuji,το οποίο διοικούσε η περίφημη φυλή Gokou. Όπου χωρίζονταν σε πέντε κατηγορίες Νερό, Γη, Φωτιά, Μέταλλο και Ξύλο.

Ο φιλότιμος μαθητευόμενος Mao τράβηξε το καλό ενδιαφέρον του διευθυντή,της κόρης του,Sana,και του γάτου Haimaru.Ο διευθυντής τον ευνόησε ορίζοντας τον ως τον διάδοχο,του εμπιστεύθηκε του το μαγικό,νοήμων-αλλά δυσοίωνο-Hagunsei κατάνα και κανονίζοντας τον(για έναν γάμο)με την Sana. Ο Mao ήταν Ερωτευμένος μαζί της.

Κατω:Η Sana και ο γάτος ο Haimaru

Όλα θα πήγαιναν ομαλά.

Αλλά,μέσα σε μια νύχτα ο Shishou Gokou σκοτώθηκε από έναν άγνωστο δράστη,ο Mao χτυπήθηκε από πολλά βέλη,εν τω μεταξύ(ο γάτος της Sana είχε μεταμορφωθεί σε φρικτό δαίμονα γάτα)το Byouki ξέσπασε σε λυσσασμένη,φονική ορμή σκοτώνοντας όποιον εύρισκε. Σύντομα βρήκε τον Mao. Για ν’αμυνθεί,με το Hagunsei αποκεφάλισε το Byouki,ενώ το κεφάλι του διέφυγε-προκαλώντας ένα φρικτό ατύχημα:το σώμα του Byouki συγχωνεύτηκε με το σώμα του Mao,μεταμορφώνοντάς τον σε κτήνος Hanyou.

Όταν μετά από ώρες επανήλθε σε άνθρωπο και ανέκτησε τις αισθήσεις του,είδε παντού καταστροφή:Την Sana νεκρή,πολλούς φρουρούς επίσης,το Μέγαρο είχε καεί . Από τότε (επί 9 αιώνες) περιπλανήθηκε στην Ιαπωνία,έχοντας υποθέσει ότι το Byouki ήταν κάποιου πράκτορας.

Τώρα,στην εποχή Taishou,ο Mao κατηγορείται έντονα από πρώην συμμαθητές του για την δολοφονία του Gokou και της Sana,και για τον εμπρησμό.Όλα αυτά ενώ δεν μπορεί να θυμηθεί όλα τα γεγονότα εκείνης της νύχτας. Δυστυχώς οι πρώην συμμαθητές,Shiranui και Hakubi μισούν τον Mao για την υποτιθέμενη προδοσία του,τον κυνηγούν για να τον εξοντώσουν. Παράξενο που παίρνουν με χαρά εντολές από μια μυστηριώδη γυναίκα,ονόματι Yurako.Που έχει την ακριβή εμφάνιση της νεκρής Sana sama! Αναστήθηκε η Sana,ή είναι μια απλή σωσίας;

Κατω :Hakubi ο Επικίνδυνος. Στοιχείο του το μέταλλο

Το έντονο Μυστήριο

  Λοιπόν,ποιος(και πώς)σκότωσε τους Gokou ;Γιατί;Όλα αυτά παραμένουν ένα μυστήριο. Υπήρχαν μικρές ενδείξεις: Τα μάτια του νεκρού Shishou Gokou (με το στήθος του στο πάτωμα) κοιτούσαν στενά μπροστά,με βλέμμα σοκ. Μια ένδειξη ότι είχε έρθει πρόσωπο με πρόσωπο με τον δολοφόνο.Επί πλέον,ο πρώην εργάτης στο υποστατικό, που τώρα έγινε δολοφόνος, ο Mokuzu εξηγεί (κεφάλαιο 34)συγκλονιστικές λεπτομέρειες στον Mao και τον Hyakka:Ακολουθώντας τις εντολές ενός ατόμου(υποσχόμενου μεγάλη ισχύ),απήγαγε τον Haimaru,τον πέταξε σ’έναν προετοιμασμένο λάκκο γεμάτο φίδια και κάπρους,σκοτώνοντας τα μεταμορφώθηκε στο Byouki(αυτό λέει ότι ήταν η αρχή του σχεδίου για την καταστροφή του Gokou)!Αυτό  έφαγε το Μυστικό Βιβλίο του Taizanfukun. Μόνο ο Mao και ο Shiranui ήταν στην κρύπτη,είδαν την σκηνή αυτή. Πώς το ήξερε αυτό ο Mokuzu; Μόνον απ’τον Shiranui ..;Μπορεί αυτό να σημαίνει ότι υπήρχε ένας τρίτος θεατής της σκηνής;

 Το Εκκρεμές της Μοίρας έχει γυρίσει.

Η συνάντηση της Nanoka με τον Mao είναι ένα έργο της μοίρας για το μεγάλο Καλό. Το Byuoki αποφάσισε για ένα νέο δοχείο,έτσι μούσκεψε την Nanoka στο αίμα του, μεταλλάσσοντάς την σε ayakashi. Αλλά έχει καλές παρενέργειες στην ιστορία: Όταν ο Nanoka έδωσε κατά λάθος το αίμα της (κεφάλαιο 38: Ανάμειξη αίματος)στον τραυματία Mao λειτούργησε ως μετάγγιση που τον θεραπεύει από τυχόν τραυματισμούς. Επιπλέον: Όταν είναι μαζί, λόγω του Byouki αίματος του που ρέει σε καθένα από αυτά, έχει εκπληκτικά αποτελέσματα.Γίνεται αόρατη για οποιεσδήποτε μεθόδους επιτήρησης onmyodo!

Αλλά ο Mao απροσδόκητα βρίσκει για τα καλά μία πρώην συμμαθήτρια:Την Natsuno, χρήστης της γης,που του αποκαλύπτει σε  και στους φίλους του πώς δολοφονήθηκε η Sana sama. Την ίδια τη νύχτα της πυρκαγιάς ενα jaki, δηλαδή Ισχυρή Κακή Αύρα (εκμεταλλευόμενο την ταραχή)ξερίζωσε την καρδιά της Sana, παίρνοντάς την μαζί . Διευκρινίζει επίσης κάτι απαίσιο: Κάθε μαθητής -παρ΄ότι ουδείς τα είδε- απλά υπέθεσε ότι είχε δει τον Mao να διαπράττει το έγκλημα!Επίσης δυστυχώς η εικασία έγινε πολύ εύκολα και γρήγορα Αποδεκτή Πεποίθηση(:

Επειδή ο Hakubi,ως ο πιο σεβαστός μαθητής, κατηγόρησε έντονα τον Μάο,όλοι το αποδέχονταν. Γι' αυτό η χαμηλής αξίας onmyouji Natsuno δεν έγινε διόλου πιστευτή! Η Natsuno ακούγοντας περί της Yurako απορρίπτει την ιδέα, ότι η  Sana είναι ζωντανή: «Η Sana sama είναι σίγουρα νεκρή. Το είδα με τα μάτια μου».Όπως λέει στον Mao «Μετά από αυτό δεν μπορούσα να κάνω τίποτα,η οικογένεια Gokou ήταν τελειωμένη. Και κανείς δεν νοιαζόταν να μάθει την αλήθεια». Εικόνα κάτω η Natsuno:

Οι γεύσεις εκεί μέσα

α) Το ειδύλλιο μεταξύ του Mao και της Nanoka δίνει μια γεύση στη σειρά.Της αρέσει,πρόθυμα έρχεται εποχή του και τον βοηθά,ενώ θα μπορούσε να επιλέξει το φλέρτ με τον συμμαθήτη Shiraha kun.Επίσης τον βοηθά να συναθροίσει το θάρρος για να ξεπεράσει τα ζητήματα της,από καιρό νεκρής, Sana. Ενώ η Yurako μοιάζει με αυτήν. Με διαφορά τώρα απο προηγούμενα έργα της Rumiko :Όταν έχουν τα προβλήματά τους,τα επιδιορθώνουν με ωριμότητα. Ευχάριστο :)

β)Οι δυνατές γυναίκες.Nanoka,Natsuno,Tenko και Yurako.Η καρδιά, το μυαλό και οι ικανότητές τους μεταφέρουν τα μηνύματα της Takahashi rumiko.Κάθε μία και όλες τραβούν το ενδιαφέρον μας.

 Ανατριχιαστικές Σκέψεις

Εάν ένας κακοποιός εγκέφαλος είναι πάντα ένα βήμα μπροστά από τον ήρωα,αυτό διότι:

α) Είναι αρκετά δικτυωμένος,έχει έναν τεράστιο οργανισμό για να εκτελεί έργα άμεσα.

Β) Τον έχει γνωρίσει.Μάλλον έχει προσωπική μνησικακία εναντίον Του.

Γ) Όλα αυτά τα δύο παραπάνω.

Ποιος σκότωσε τους Gokou, παγίδεψε εύκολα τον Mao για αυτά τα εγκλήματα;Ασφαλώς  το Jaki ακολούθησε τις εντολές κάποιου,που τους ήξερε εκεί μέσα. Διαφορετικά δεν εξηγούνται.

Όλη αυτή η περιπέτεια,μυστηρίου θα διαρκέσει για πολύ μεγάλο χρονικό διάστημα.

Why Takahashi Rumiko’s MAO is BLAST

Her current manga series MAO (story &art) has a lot of action.At the core of the story –deeper than time travel,magic,occult,dealings with yokai and ayakashi-are relationships of ex classmates have gone awry,plus a man’s pain and grief from the death his fiancee.The entire plot is based on events that occured during Japan’s Heian period(1000 AD),prior to the now timeline.

It begins with Kiba Nanoka,a female high school student,who 8 years ago escaped a near-death experience-due to some supernatural circumstances.She remembers it,even though She couldn’t figure the reasons and circumstances.

Now fifteen years old,she’s whiskered in the Taishou era,gets chased down by a man-eating yokai, but she’s saved by the mysterious Mao—a young man of this era.As she uses the time portal to pay visits to Mao(to get the answers about why her First death)she befriends with him.What’s more ?She likes Him.Now the two orphans cowork to unriddle the scheme in his past,that turned his friends into Vengeful Hunters Against Him.

The Origin and the Grief

Mao was born in Japan,during 1000 AD.His early life began an orphanage,with many hardships,at the same time he was sharpening his higher skills and learning magic techniques.On his teens he entered a boarding school for onmyuji,being run by the prestigious Gokou clan.Where it was divided to five classes Water,Earth,Fire,Metal and Wood.

The earnest Mao got the good interest of the principal,and Sana’s cat Haimaru.The principal favored him,by entrusting him the magical,sentient-but Ominous-Hagunsei katana and arranging him(for a badding marriage)with his daughter Sana.Mao was in love with her.It would go smooth.But overnight Shishou Gokou was killed by an unknown perpetrator,Mao was shot by many arrows,meanwhile (Sana’s cat who had transformed to a Horrible Cat  Demon)the Byouki rampaged the manor and its men.Soon it came face to face with Mao. To defend himself, with the Hagunsei ,he severed Byouki’s head from the body,while its head led way –there causing a freak mishap:Byouki’s body got fused with Mao’s,transmutating him to a Hanyou.

When after hours he turned to human and regained his consciousness he saw devastation everywhere: Sana was dead, many guards too ,as for the Temple  was burned down.Ever since (for 9 centuries) he wandered across Japan ,having assumed the Byouki was someone’s field agent[Image below:Lady Sana].

Now,in the Taishou era,Mao gets vehemently blamed,by ex classmates for the murder of the Gokou Instructor and Sana,and for the arson.All these while He’s unable to remember all the events of  that night.

Sadly  ex disciples Shiranui,Hakubi detest Mao for his  alleged treason,they hunt Him down to eliminate him.Weird they gladly take orders from a mysterious woman,called Yurako.Who has the exact appearance of the long ago deceased Sana sama!Is Sana resurrected,or is she a mere double?

The Mystery all around

So who(and how)could’ve killed the Gokou?All of it remaines a mystery.There were slight indications:The eyes of dead Shishou Gokou(with his chest on the floor)eyes were looking strait forward, with glare of shock.Implying he had come face to face with the would-be killer.

Plus ex worker in the manor,now turned to assassin,Mokuzu explaines (chapter 34)shocking details to Mao and Hyakka:As he followed a person’s orders he tossed Haimaru in a poison Imp hole,by killing snakes and boars he Transformed to the Byouki.This says it was  the Beginning of the plan to destroy the Gokou.Telling hat Byouki ate the Secret  Book of Taizunfukun.But in the Chamber there was Only Mao.So how did Mokuzu know of this?Can this imply that there was a  watcher,from distance of the whole scene?

The Pendulum of Fate has turned for.

Nanoka’s encounter with Mao  is a work of fate for the great Good.The Byuoki  decided for a new vessel,so  it soaked Nanoka to his blood,mutating her to an ayakashi.But it has good side effects on the story:When Nanoka  accidentally gave her blood(chapter 38:Mixing Of Blood)to injured Mao it worked as transfusion healing him by any injuries.In addition:When they’re are together,due to Byouki’s Blood flowing in each of them,has  amazing effects.Such as they become stealth for any onmyodo surveillance methods![image below Nanoka]

But Mao unexpectadly finds for good an ex disciple:The girl Natsuno,an earth user,who reveales to Him and his friends how Sana sama was murdered.The very night of the fire in the Treasury a Black jaki(taking advantage of the commotion)ripped off Sana’s  heart organ,taking along it while fleeing. She also clarifies something awful too:Every other disciple-albeit never saw it- simply assumed he had seen  Mao have done it.

Due Hakubi,as the most respected pupil, strongly blamed  Mao for it every one accepted it.That’s why the low value onmyoji Natsuno wasn’t believed at all! She objects to the notion about Sana being alive:”Sana sama is definitely dead.I saw it with my eyes”.

As she states to Mao “After that I couldn’t do anything,the Gokou family was finished.And no one cared about knowing the truth”.[image below

Hakubi the Dangerous.

The Flavors in there

a)The romance between Mao and Nanoka is what offers a Flavor to the Series,to his case as well.She likes him,she gladly comes to His Era and assist him,all these while she could chose easiness with classmate Shiraha kun.She also helps him muster the courage to get over with the issues of the long ago dead Sana.While Yurako is her mere lookalike. With now a difference they have their arguments,they mend them with maturity.Fascinating:)

b)The strong women.Nanoka,Natsuno,Tenko and Yurako.Their heart,their mind and their abilities convey the messages of Takahashi rumiko.Each one and all capture our interest.

Creepy Thoughts

If a Villainous Mastermind is always one step ahead of the hero that’s because of:

a)He’s quite networked,he’s got an immense organization to carry out projects instantly.

B)He has known Him.Probably has a personal grudge on Him.

C) All these two above .

Who in purpose did kill the Gokou,easily framed Mao for these crimes? Probably the Black Jaki followed orders by some one, a person who knew them,and others  in there.Otherwise it wouldn’t be  with out a pattern.[Below image of Romance]
