"fascinating!" tartaglia leans over the edge of the spring far too hurriedly, the smile ( too wide, too wide ) on his lips with the slightest peek of his fangs. arms cross on the ledge for him to prop his chin atop, head lolling to the side as the whirlpools of his gaze churn in sickening speed. "it has been long since i have left my abode. to be greeted with a human child in yubaba's establishment is certainly a first. and what is your name..?" / @chiheru *

Chihiro and Kokichi with a crush on someone who acts like Kyoko Kirigiri
Warnings: Major spoilers to Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc and Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony! You have been warned!
A/N: Been rewatching playthroughs of the games while I was sick and got the itch to write something! There was so much more I wanted to do with Chihiro's part, but kind of backed myself into a corner when I decided to write this taking place during the killing game. No worries though, I plan to write a bunch more Chihiro x reader content in the future! ( Can you tell I love Chihiro? Lmao- )
Tumblr media
↪ Off rip, Chihiro was very intimidated by you. Your stone cold exterior and the general vibe you gave off was kinda scary to him.
↪ He didn't talk to you at all during the first couple of days, simply watching and observing you whenever you made your presence known/whenever you spoke.
↪ During the first class trial, you absolutely owned it. You constantly kept everyone on track and gave them clues to help them figure out the mystery themselves and diverted them from anything that led them to the incorrect truth. You helped everyone crack the case without flat out giving them the answers and he found that really cool of you.
↪ When Leon's execution came, Chihiro felt a swarm of negative emotions to the point he couldn't contain his tears. It was terrible, all of it was. Even if Leon killed Sayaka and even though Sayaka attempted to muder Leon, he couldn't help but feel bad for the both of them..
↪ That following day or two, he was in a rather gloomy mood. Everyone was. After the events of what happened, he couldn't really stomach much food. It was a small thing and Chihiro thought no one had cared to notice his lack of appetite, but he was surprised that someone did; you did. One morning, he was presented with a large portion of a simple meal by none other than the stone cold mystery themselves.
↪ "Eat it if you'd like. If you don't trust it, that's fine too," Was all you said to him, but it made his heart do a backflip regardless. He didn't understand it, but the scene kept playing in his mind the rest of the morning which kept him red in the face the entire time..
↪ After that, Chihiro started observing you even more and he started picking up on the small things about you. How, although most of the others misinterpret your intentions, you truly don't mean harm to anyone and just want to find the way out like everyone else. You're actually really sweet but your tight-lipped and mysterious nature just throws everyone in the wrong direction, he thinks.
↪ The more he watched you and the more he interacted with you, ( although interactions with you didn't happen often ) the more his heart fluttered until it eventually evolved into something bigger. At first, he thought what he was feeling for you was simply admiration until one of the others pointed it out to him one day. The way he speaks about you with such passion, the way he sometimes stares at you like a puppy wanting attention, the amount of times he's caught staring at you.. To them, it was painfully obvious that he was crushing on you!
↪ Even with the knowledge of his crush on you, Chihiro made no attempt to act on it. For one, you two are in a killing game and you're probably way more worried about figuring out the mastermind and getting out of here than getting a partner and two, he was too embarrassed to. The last thing he wanted was for you to laugh or berate or be disgusted by him for pretending to be a girl because of how weak and sensitive he was.. ( The last thing he wants is to confess under the rouse of a girl anyway. )
↪ This ( along with the embarrassing secret motive ) ultimately boosted his motivation to achieve his goal; to get stronger. Once he's strong enough to protect you and his friends from any danger, then he'll tell you how he feels!
↪ He was determined, and unfortunately, that determination ultimately led to his untimely demise. It was ironic, especially with that conversation you had with him that afternoon prior..
↪ "I've decided! I have no other choice but to get stronger. I'll try my hardest and..! And when I do, I would like to talk to you about something very important, okay?" He had told you, eyes burning with uncharacteristic fire. It was..certainly a look for him. ( One that may or may not have made your heart do a few tricks without your permission.. ) And you remembered briefly mutter something to him about staying safe and not overdoing it..
↪ If only you had offered to join him. Maybe things would've went differently..
↪ Huh, how odd. It's not like you to be sentimental like this. Actually, as of late, a lot of things you've been doing have been out of character for you.. Honestly, what has gotten into you lately?
↪ Well, there's no time to dawdle on it right now. You have to seek justice for Chihiro. With the clues you've gathered, you already have a sneaking suspicion of who the culprit is..
Tumblr media
↪ You immediately spiked Kokichi's interest. The fact that you didn't give him any information about yourself intrigued him. It was as if you had something to hide..
↪ When it came out that everyone would be participating in a killing game, Kokichi was surprised by how well you kept it together. Unlike everyone else who were in denial, you wholeheartedly believed the kubs and kept a levelhead about the whole ordeal. It was as if it didn't affect you at all..
↪ "You seem oddly calm about this. Don't tell me you're actually some psycho and was waiting on something like this." He said to you only to get silence in return as you outright ignored him.
↪ For the first day or two he observed you, but he quickly decided to take a more upfront approach and was all in your face. He was always trying to poke and prod and tease information out of you, but you never caved. He couldn't get under your skin at all.
↪ But he did, at least, get your name.
↪ When the first murder finally happened, you again, didn't panic. While everyone else were screaming their heads off, you talked to Monokuma, verifying things about the upcoming class trial before immediately starting your investigation.
↪ When the trial came about, you kept calm. As if you had done this a million times, you helped guide everyone. You gave hints and helped paint a clear picture of what happened. When everyone began to deny the truth, you, along with Kaede, helped everyone come to grips with reality.
↪ And then, when the killer was executed, you didn't freak out. He also noticed you saying something to Shuichi before swiftly leaving to go god knows where.
↪ And just like that his interest in you hit it's peak.
↪ He began speculating. What could you possibly be hiding? Why are you the way you are? How many times has something like this happened to you? Do you hold the key of getting out of here?
↪ Could you be the mastermind behind this? It's definitely a possibility..
↪ After the trial, Kokichi officially set his sights on you. He began to bug you even more.
↪ He would drag you around places and rope you into his shenanigans. To everyone else, it may have just looked like Kokichi was just doing it for the fun of it or to annoy you, but in actuality, he was doing it in an attempt to get a feel for your personality. He wanted to know what made you tick and what didn't. But alas, you were harder to crack than he expected.
↪ So, he began stalking you.
↪ Everytime you distanced yourself from the others and disappeared for long periods of time, he would try to follow after you, however..
↪ "Kokichi. I know you're there."
↪ ..he never got far before he was found out.
↪ Then the second murder rolled around and the cycle repeated. The body discovery announcement played, you gave no reaction to it, disappeared to start your own investigation, and carried the class trial.
↪ After the trial and execution, ( and after you saved his butt from Maki's wrath after he exposed a certain secret of hers ) he approached you with the supposed intention of wanting to be your friend. ( Although he worded it more as him wanting you to be his sidekick ) He didn't give you ang room to deny his friendship and before you knew it, he was shamelessly latched to you like some annoying pest.
↪ Almost everywhere you went, he attempted to tag along. Of course, if you were going on one of your little side investigations, you gave him the slip and he wouldn't be able to find you for a while.
↪ Other than that, you humored him. He talks your ear off and the conversations between you two are more or less one sided but he can tell you're listening to every little word he said and didn't mind his presence. Although he doesn't know much about you, he's gotten to know you enough to know that when you don't want to talk to someone, you'll make it very clear to them that you don't want to talk to them.
↪ And then something most bewildering happened. Shuichi gave you a gift.
↪ "How did you know I liked this?" Kokichi heard you say before you accepted the gift, "Uh..lucky guess? I honestly had no idea. It just seemed like something you'd like." He heard him say..
↪ "I see.. Well, thank you."
↪ Like the stalker he is, he watched the whole interaction and to Kokichi's surprise, he felt..odd watching you two interact. Although it wasn't the most intense feeling, it certainly wasn't a pleasant one..
↪ Anyways, the third murder rolls around and shortly after it happened, he stepped on a faulty floor board and..yeah y'all know what happened to him.
↪ When you and Shuichi found him, he was laid out on the floor and bleeding profusely from the head. Shuichi was startled at first, thinking he was dead, but upon him sitting up, the detective slowly stopped caring.
↪ Chuckling to himself, ( and feeling the very, very strong urge to vomit ) Kokichi stumbled to his feet. However, as soon as he did, you grabbed him by the arm..
↪ "You shouldn't move around so much. You likely have a concussion."
↪ "What..are you talking about? I'm..fine! Just..eheh.. Just peachy.." Another obvious lie. Honestly, what does he expect to gain from acting like this?
↪ After he let that ridiculous statement tumble from his lips, you forced him onto your back with ease. ( As expected, he's very light ) After telling Shuichi to continue his investigation, you left with Kokichi riding on your back.
↪ "Heyyyy, where are we going.. Do you plan to..to take me out while I'm like this..how..cruel, nishi..hi..heh.."
↪ You ended up taking him all the way back to your dorm because you remembered that you had some medical supplies lying around that you found while out on one of your side investigations. They weren't the best, but it was enough to make sure Kokichi wouldn't bleed out and die.
↪ With quick and kinda rough movements, you bandages up his head and the entire time you were supposed to spend investigating ended being spent in your room. After you finished bandaging his head, you dimmed the lights and applied a makeshift cold compress ( which you made by stuffing some ice in a bag and wrapping the bag in a thin towel ) to his head.
↪ Your eyes were completely on him the entire time and something about that made the displeasing feeling he felt before swell into something lighter and fluffier in his chest and around his heart. He didn't know what it was, but he's certain that he loved hated the feeling with a passion and hoped to never feel it again. Oh the lies he tells even himself
↪ The trial rolls around, and although you were kind of in the backseat for some time, you still managed to crack the case wide open. Well, with some help from Shuichi that is.
↪ Speaking of which, after the trial and execution, Kokichi began to notice the most bewildering thing; little Shuichi was getting oddly close to you.
↪ Like, a day or two after the trial, he saw you outside with Shuichi, Maki, and Kaito. You seemed to be working out with them but he took note of how you seemed the most responsive with Shuichi.
↪ An uncomfortable feeling bubbled in his chest, but even so, Kokichi, who had begun to slowly come to grips and realize his attraction towards you, pretended like he was fine. So what if you're hanging out with Shuichi? Lately, the detective has started to peak his interest and he plans to befriend him just like he did with you. Once he achieves that, he'll have you back and he'll have Shuichi to himself too!
↪ But alas, things didn't go as planned. Shuichi, untrusting of him, didn't want to be his friend. How sad..
↪ But he's not one to give up so easily. He'll find a way to rope him into this little game of his..one way or another.
↪ Fourth trial comes and the truth is revealed that Kokichi had a part in Miu's murder. Upon revealing the truth to everyone and completely ruining all the fun of the mystery, you seemed to be the one person to initially believe him. ( Although he noticed you seemed uncharacteristically bothered about the whole ordeal )
↪ Then Shuichi helped you further reveal what happened, forcing everyone to believe what really happened was the truth and that Gonta was the blackened. ( Gosh, it was agitating how in sync you two were )
↪ After the trial ended, things escalated. Kaito and Kokichi got into it and Kaito ended up lunging at Kokichi. However, it seemed the ultimate supreme leader was stronger than he let on ( or maybe something else is at play here.. ) and he ended up throwing his own punch which sent Kaito flying to the ground.
↪ That's when the others finally intervened.
↪ Shuichi, angered by everything that had happened, screamed at Kokichi. He yelled and fussed about how he was horrible and had no friends and how he had no one to turn to because he was horrible and blah blah blah.
↪ Kokichi didn't care much for his speech, ( it was nothing he hasn't been told already ) but his eyes seemed to drift to you. Unlike everyone else, you hadn't jumped to Kaito's defense nor were you screaming at him. In fact, you just stood in the back, watching with that iron expression of yours. How..like you..it was to do that, he thought.
↪ When he left, you followed after him.
↪ "That was quite the show you put on back there. Tell me, Kokichi. What are you planning?" You had asked him.
↪ "Heh, wellll since it's you I feel the sudden urge to spill everything, nishi~! ..Hm, fine then. I'll tell you for a kiss right here on the cheek, nishishishi~!" And then he saw it. For only a split second, he saw the surprise flash across your face. He saw your brows twitch and your eyes widen. He saw your cheeks flush.
↪ He finally saw you truly caught off guard and it was the cutest thing he's ever been able to witness. It's disgusting how much he's grown to like you, he thought. Not really.
↪ You didn't see him for a few days after the trial. You had no idea where he went, but you didn't bother wasting your time searching for him. Not that you could, with Kaito breathing down your neck wanting you to hang out with him, Shuichi, and Maki, you never found the reason or necessary time to go and look for him. ( But for some odd reason, you couldn't stop thinking about him. )
↪ And then he showed his face at last and when he did, he had weapons in tow.
↪ He claimed that he wanted to help end the killing game but of course no one believed him. Maki, who was at her wits end with the male, jumped to attack him and you, of course, jumped to his rescue.
↪ "Why do you always protect him? Are you two working together?" She questioned, her fiery crimson hues staring into you like sharpened blades.
↪ "..." Your silence gave nothing away as you stared back at her with your own icy gaze, gripping her by the arm as you awaited for her to release Kokichi.
↪ She let him go eventually.
↪ Kokichi then went on to explain what the weapons he persuaded Miu to make did ( the "electrohammers" as he put it ) before saying he'll no longer intervene with the others and their plans and leaving.
↪ And without a second thought, you followed after him which automatically labeled you a traitor in certain peoples' eyes. ( Cough cough Maki and Himiko cough cough )
↪ Alas, you quickly lost sight of him despite your tailing. But you couldn't give up now. He knows something and you're determined to find out what that something was.
↪ But all your efforts got you nowhere. You looked everywhere but couldn't find him, however when you finally reconvened with the others they all seemed oddly..depressed about something.
↪ You questioned each of them but only Shuichi would explain what happened while you were gone. Apparently, they used the electrohammers to cross that Death Road and found a large hatch that led outside. They got it opened but what they saw was simply despair-inducing..
↪ Everything was destroyed, there wasn't even air to breath out there. To put it simply, it was the end of the world.
↪ And the supposed mastermind behind the killing game had finally shown themselves and it was none other than the Ultimate Supreme Leader himself; Kokichi Ouma.
↪ But the whole story seemed..odd to you. Something about it simply didn't sit right ( especially with the evidence you had gathered while secretly investigating this place ) and in the end you incurred that at least some part of what went down was a lie. ( And you had a sneaking suspicion of which part it was )
↪ You ended up disappearing after that to do some more investigating. You spent the entire evening, night, and following morning digging up what you could. It was a shame it was cut short in one of the worst ways possible..
↪ "A body has been discovered! After a certain amount of time that you can spend however you'd like, the class trial will begin!" You certainly wasn't expecting that. And at a time like this..
↪ You make it to the crime scene soon after that and waste no time investigating. Everyone is certain that Kaito was the one who was murdered, but until you gather the clues and come to a collective verdict at the class trial, nothing is certain. ( Although, there's this sense of dread that's beginning to bubble at the pit of your stomach. You're hoping—praying—that it's not because of what you think it is.. )
↪ And then the class trial comes and for the first time, you were uncertain. You had a possibility or two, but with the clues presented, you weren't sure of anything..
↪ And after a long time of going back forth and around in circles, Kokichi's plan was finally revealed. His true goal was to end the killing game by making an unsolvable case where you aren't able to figure out who was murdered and who was the culprit.
↪ But then new evidence came about. Maki's confession and the video tape along with Shuichi's deductions helped you make a vital connection and that connection helped crack the entire case wide open. ( Because of you, Kokichi's final efforts were in vain.. )
↪ After the trial, no one was happy. I mean, how could they be? The blackened was Kaito. Aside from that, for some reason, you just seemed a little too upset. Something about the entire situation, about Kokichi's entire plan to kill himself for the chance to end this killing game, to stop the suffering, it made your heart sting. It effected you more than you would've liked and Kaito seemed to notice that.
↪ "I know you really liked him, Y/n," He told you, "He really liked you too. He never outright admitted it, but I could tell.. He wouldn't stop talking about ya'! Even..even in his final moments.."
↪ Was that supposed to make you feel better? Because it didn't. All it did was make things worse. You wish he would've just kept that to himself. Kokichi was thinking of you until the very end? What was the point of putting that painful thought into your head? It was unnecessary.
↪ And so, as soon as Kaito's execution was over. You fled the scene, silently but hurriedly. You knew why, but you didn't want to accept it. To accept that you left in such a rush because you couldn't keep your emotions in check..
↪ Ugh, that damn Kokichi! Could he have been anymore selfish? Forcing his way into your life, making you feel such wonderful inconvenient emotions, only to snatch all of it away and leaving you with the miserable feeling of anguish..
↪ He was truly the worst, you thought.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Makoto Naegi:
♡ Honestly just. So startled.
♡ The first time you made a joke like that, he jolted in his seat, and turned to look at you with the widest eyes.
♡ It catches him so off guard every time. He has no idea what to do.
♡ Does he laugh? Did he think it was funny? He has no clue.
♡ He usually just ends up freezing, which only makes you laugh harder. The look on his face is priceless.
Byakuya Togami (platonic):
♡ He’ll never admit it, but he thinks you’re hilarious.
♡ Every time you make a joke about a tragic event in history, you can see him purse his lips as he tries so hard not to laugh.
♡ This inevitably leads to teasing on your end. “C’mon, you’re smiling! You think it’s funny!”
♡ He just rolls his eyes and keeps reading whatever lame ass book he’s got this time.
♡ Later though, when he’s alone in his dorm, he’ll think back to your jokes, and let himself have a laugh.
Yasuhiro Hagakure:
♡ His jaw drops. Doesn’t matter how many times you do it, he’s shocked at your audacity.
♡ He thinks your jokes are funny, but it takes him a solid fifteen seconds to get over the surprise before he laughs.
♡ You two just stare at each other, his eyes wide as you wait eagerly for his response.
♡ Eventually, he gives a little “snrk” and starts giggling.
♡ His reaction is every bit worth the wait, in your opinion.
Leon Kuwata:
♡ This man is wheezing; he thinks you’re so funny.
♡ The most fun is when he’s eating or drinking, cause he’ll choke up and start laughing in the middle of it every time.
♡ He’ll always say something along the lines of “Baby, you can’t just say stuff like that!”
♡ But he’ll be the first to admit the joke was funny.
Chihiro Fujisaki:
♡ Oh they hate it. Especially if you like to make self deprecating jokes.
♡ They’ll whip around to look at you. Then, very slowly, their eyes start misting up with tears.
♡ They’re chronically compassionate. They just can’t stand it when you talk about yourself like that!
♡ They’ll say, in the most pitiful voice imaginable: “Please don’t… don’t sa-say that…”
♡ This turns into you giving them the righted hug, and reassuring them that you didn’t mean it.
Mondo Owada:
♡ He loves dark humor! He makes jokes like that all the time.
♡ Needless to say, he thinks you’re the funniest girl on the planet.
♡ His friends will tease him about laughing at every joke you make, but he doesn’t care. A funny joke is a funny joke.
♡ All this hinges on whether or not you’re talking about yourself or not.
♡ God forbid you make a joke about harming yourself. He’ll turn around and give you the biggest earful of your life.
Kiyotaka Ishimaru:
♡ He thinks it’s hilarious, and he hates it.
♡ Every time you make a dark joke, he’ll give a single, barking laugh before slapping his hand over his mouth.
♡ He knows he shouldn’t think it’s funny, but give him a break! He’s been through a lot.
♡ It takes him a little bit to laugh openly at your jokes. He doesn’t quite understand the whole “coping with humor” thing.
♡ He’ll get there eventually. Be patient.
Hifumi Yamada (platonic):
♡ Hifumi, surprisingly, doesn’t even bat an eye before he starts laughing.
♡ He knows his audience well, and sometimes includes humor akin to yours in his stories.
♡ Sometimes, to be funny, he’ll pretend to clutch his pearls in horror.
♡ After he’s got most of the giggles out, he’ll say something like “You know, if you keep saying things like that, you’re going to get punched one day.”
♡ He knows that doesn’t bother you a bit. It would be so worth it.

In your Kamakura Wrangler Au could you rank who would be the most likely to hurt/endanger Makoto to the least likely to hurt/protective of him out of the students please?
That is a great question.
Honestly, I think his greatest protector (in terms of effectiveness) would actually be Hiro. While he's not actively protecting him or staying with him most of the time, he often does little things to set the right future in motion to protect him. In general, Hiro happens to lack the kind of hollow boredom that most Kamukuras feel; like I mentioned, his vibe toward everything is just that he is watching reruns of real life. Makoto is a recurring character he likes well enough on a show he's seen plenty of times. (The only show. The only channel. But it's not a bad one. It might even be really good, if this were his first time watching.)
Plus, Makoto's luck can occasionally surprise him. One time, Makoto trips and spills food on himself, and Hiro surprises everyone by actually laughing, because wow! A new scene for once!
Second most protective, of course, is Taka. He is vigilant about making sure none of the other Kamukuras kill this innocent and normal person. I think Kyoko and Byakuya would come around to protecting Makoto, too, but initially their vibe might be more, "You won't survive here for very long, so tell me this, before you die..." Taka is protective right away.
The only catch there is, Taka values Makoto's humanity so much that there is a non-zero chance that, if he thinks the scientists will change Makoto into one of them, he might mercy-kill him. It wouldn't be his default response. He's significantly more likely to attack the scientists or whoever else is posing a danger to Makoto than Makoto himself. But if he's identified it as impossible to protect Makoto from being Kamukurified, he would view death as the kinder, more ethical alternative. It would be very quick and painless, and he would cry for the first time, after. Makoto's ability to sway Taka's view on the humanity of the Kamukuras is so, so important to how well everything goes. Though the increasing investment of Byakuya and Kyoko would be helpful.
And Chihiro would also be a big help. They're usually hiding (and as a Kamukura, they're really good at it), so Makoto's conversations with Chihiro read like conversations with a ghost, but the arc there is that gradually Chihiro starts to become a physical presence. Eventually leading to Chihiro protecting him if and when it becomes necessary. Maybe someone thinks they've gotten Makoto alone, his allies are elsewhere, and they can attack him, but lo and behold Chihiro appears and saves him.
Mukuro initially protects Makoto only from being taken away by the scientists. Her strong sense of personal loyalty from before is now expressed as a rigid bond with the new collective, meaning she is very strict about the treatment of the Kamukuras. They have been given this resource, they have negotiated his use, so the scientists are not allowed to take him. Makoto always has Taka on one side of him, but when the scientists enter the room, Mukuro immediately stands at his other side. I think the two of them don't talk all that much, but she still grows fond of him from what few conversations they do have and how positive a force he's been for the other Kamukuras.
On the other side, of course Junko might harm or kill him just on an impulse. More likely harm than kill; despair is one thing, but she does actually need the enrichment. The thing is, the more he interacts with her, and especially the more he reminds her of the past and maybe helps some of her memories return, she might start to actively enjoy despair again, instead of just feeling the impulse toward it. And this time, she's got all the talents of a Kamukura. She would be extremely thankful to him, and killing him might be an expression of that thanks. Or she might keep him on hand as she develops into her new self, with the understanding that she'll kill him when it will hurt her most. If she actually starts to care about what's happening, she can manipulate her friends' eccentricities to get Makoto to herself. (Give or take a wild Chihiro.)
Sayaka would actually be something of a problem, not because she actively bears him ill will, but because she can't handle his attempts to be present as a friend and support for her. Her way of making sense of the trauma she underwent in the Kamukura Project, and even more so the very particular brand of demeaning that is being one of many Kamukuras, is to perceive herself as the one person who doesn't need any help, support, enrichment, or anything. She's supposed to be the one who can help everyone, and then Makoto shows up and talks to her in ways no one ever has, tells her about a past self she's not supposed to yearn for, etc. If she wants or needs it, then suddenly what she went through was just a pointless thing that harmed her and not the thing that made her what the world needs. She feels she needs to take him down several pegs. But I believe she can overcome it.
Hina is a danger, but she doesn't particularly mean to be; she's just very curious and she assigns no positive or negative moral value to any means of exploring that curiosity that pops into her mind. She'll mitigate her own more destructive thoughts because the group will have made agreements as to how to engage with Makoto, but for anything they haven't made explicit agreements about, there is no guarantee she won't hurt him. Even once she considers him a friend, it would be a separate thing for her to fully understand why suffering is a thing that people actively avoid, because she just doesn't factor suffering into her own thought process at all. (She understands suffering, functionally, and she has a full grasp on the ways in which it motivates and influences people's actions, but her own relationship with suffering colors her understanding of what it means that most people avoid it. Not to mention she's an analyst who spends a lot of time around Junko; her data is skewed.)
Celeste will become a danger if it will help her escape, but in most circumstances it won't.
Mondo will become a danger out of agitation over changes in the status quo, since they cause him to feel a lack of control. Like Sayaka and Hina, I believe he can overcome that.
Hifumi and Leon will be more into watching from the sidelines than anything. When Makoto befriends them, they still won't be too active. Sakura I think would be pretty neutral to him. And I'm going to say Toko likes him but does nothing for him.

Of the Danganronpa casts, which 8 characters do you think would best fit the Adventure Crests?
Ooh, that is a fascinating question to think about. I can't do an episode of Digimon today because I'm back at work after two days off so I not only have a lot of backlog to attend to but also end-of-week reporting to shoot out.
But this is a fun idea for an exercise to keep my brain moving through the day.
Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc
Courage: Mondo Owada. Mondo's issues with masculinity map well onto the Courage template. He's brave and impulsive to a reckless degree, driven by a desire to prove himself. His life has been defined by the virtues embodied in the Crest of Courage, both for better and for worse as his reckless bravery ultimately got his brother killed.
Mondo's story ends in a betrayal of his virtue. In the equivalent of Dark Evolution consuming his Digimon and driving it to kill him. But even this supreme act of cowardice occurs because he is shamed by the courage that Chihiro demonstrates. The virtue that Mondo has strived to uphold.
Friendship: Junko Enoshima. That one's going to take some explaining, but weird as it is to think, Junko's entire gambit as the Mastermind is a dark inversion of the virtue of Friendship. She knows each and every one of these people intimately, and she cares. She has to care for their deaths to bring her the despair she seeks.
The entire Killing Game is a form of self-harm, as despair-obsessed Junko inflicts emotional scars on both her friends and peers, and on herself. It's just like when she stabbed Yasuke; It only works, it only gives her the emotional response she desires, because she cares so much and knows so much about each and every one of these people.
Junko herself has the Crest of Friendship. Which she has corrupted in pursuit of despair.
Love: Sakura Ogami. Sakura is driven by love. Though seen only as a powerful and dangerous ogre by others, it's love that motivates her every action. It's love for Kenshiro that leads her to work for Junko. It's love for the rest of her peers that leads her to betray Junko.
Even her death, her final act in this world, was done out of love. Her final moments spent with a candy in her mouth; A present from a beloved friend. Sakura has a bottomless capacity for love.
Purity/Sincerity: Hifumi Yamada. A Purity-bearer is someone who is emotionally honest and sincere in their presentation. They wear their heart on their sleeve; What you see is what you get. They are, in every moment and every interaction, their truest unfiltered self. For better or worse, they shower everyone they meet in unrelenting emotional honesty.
Hifumi is often difficult to be around. His obsession with his favorite magical girl gets uncomfortable at times. But it cannot be said that he has any sort of filter or that he's concealing any part of himself. Hifumi puts his true self out there in every waking moment, even when you kinda don't want him to. He's not ashamed of himself and he's not going to pretend to be anything he's not. As such, Hifumi embodies the Crest of Purity more than anyone.
Knowledge: Kyoko Kirigiri. I mean. Obviously. Obviously the Ultimate Detective has the Crest of Knowledge. Kyoko is driven to find answers. So much so that she let Makoto die (or almost die until Alter Ego saved him) so that her investigation could continue. There is nothing that motivates Kyoko more than her own curiosity and need to find the answer.
Sincerity/Reliability: Kiyotaka Ishimaru. It can be confusing that there's two Crests named Sincerity in different versions. But they refer to different kinds of Sincerity. The Reliability Crest is exactly what it sounds like. It's the team mom. The most trustworthy person among us. Someone who is dependable and responsible for everyone's wellbeing, who steps up to make sure we're all cleaning our rooms and eating right and making good choices. Or at least tries to.
Up until trauma cracks him in half, that's Taka in a nutshell. A hard-working and diligent believer in effort over talent, Taka futilely tries to be the glue holding this group together and create a sustainable community within Junko's wicked game. He fails miserably, but it's still an effort worthy of the Crest of Reliability.
Hope: Makoto Naegi. He's literally the Ultimate Hope; Who else would this be?
Light: Sayaka Maizono. The Crest of Light is always a hard one because it's more of a spiritual thing than physical. The Light-bearer experiences reality in a unique way. They represent the force of life itself and are attuned to spiritual affairs beyond the mortal realm.
For me, that could only fit superstar pop idol and inexplicable mind-reader Sayaka Maizono.
Kindness: Chihiro Fujisaki. While not appearing in 01, the Crest of Kindness was added in 02 so I think it counts. Obviously there is no one more suited to Kindness than Chihiro, who would sooner give blood to a mosquito than smash it.
Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair
Courage: Akane Owari. Akane is Courage incarnate. Every bit as heroic, impulsive, and reckless as any Goggles Boy. Ready to fight at a moment's notice but disinterested in putting real effort into personal growth. She once threw hands with Monokuma hard enough to get one of her teammates killed; If that's not Crest of Courage material then I don't know what is!
Friendship: Gundham Tanaka. For all his bluster, Gundham cares a great deal for other people. Though he's uncomfortable with human contact, he's devoted his life to building relationships with others, even if they are primarily animal in nature.
Indeed, Gundham himself is no island, no single man standing alone, at any given time. He is accompanied always by his Four Dark Devas of Destruction, working together as a team of five to accomplish any goal. Gundham understands the value of teamwork and companionship like no one else alive.
Love: Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu. Though he tries to be the big bad gangster tough guy, the force driving Fuyuhiko has always been love. Love for his Ultimate Little Sister Natsumi and love for his dearest friend Peko, who he all but begged to deprogram from his family's conditioning.
Even before the Tragedy, Fuyuhiko had killed for love. In the Killing Game, he very nearly died for love.
Purity/Sincerity: Hiyoko Saionji. Again, she can be absolutely unbearable but for better or worse, she always puts forward her truest self. What you see is what you get with this foul-mouthed little bully who hurts animals and people for fun.
Knowledge: Sonia Nevermind. As the Ultimate Princess, Sonia is driven to learn much so that she can become a fair and just sovereign. The only reason she's even here is because she came to Japan to learn about the culture, and she also demonstrates a ravenous if amoral curiosity about macabre topics such as serial murderers.
Sincerity/Reliability: Nekomaru Nidai. As a coach, Nekomaru's dedicated to spending the very last years of his life to building people up. What time he has left in this world is his gift to the athletes training under him, and he will take a bullet for them in an instant. He is a responsible authority figure who selflessly and tirelessly works to build up everyone else, and for that reason he deserves the Crest of Reliability.
Hope: Nagito Komaeda. Again, this one's fairly obvious. He's a dark reflection of Makoto and Junko who embodies hope but in a twisted sort of way. Technically Izuru Kamukura gets called Ultimate Hope but that's just, like, the school administration's opinion, man. It's Nagito who has a complex relationship with the very concept of hope and so, I think, the Crest of Hope would go to him. Please use it wisely. (He won't.)
Light: Chiaki Nanami, of course. The digital human who serves in secret as one of the admins running the program, directly connected to the Neo World equivalent of Homeostasis.
Kindness: Mikan Tsumiki. This is another obvious one, I think. Of course the Ultimate Nurse gets the Crest of Kindness. Mikan struggles with her assigned virtue; she has some resentment in her, she's been abused so much she can't recognize positive reinforcement, and she enjoys the power trip of being in charge of others.
There is certainly a risk of a Darkness Evolution from Mikan. But I think those struggles only reinforce that importance and centrality of Kindness to her existence.
Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony
Courage: Tenko Chabashira. Tenko's a full-blown magical girl superhero. She's the Champion of Women, trawling city streets looking for rapists and abusers she can throw hands with.
In the Killing Game, she ticks all the boxes. Impulsive? Check. Reckless? Check. Heroic? Check. Does things without thinking to both the benefit and detriment of those around her? Check check check!
Friendship: Kaito Momota. Kaito well and truly believes that friendship and bonds of togetherness are how we're going to get through this alive. He's a serial adopter of isolated people, dragging anyone who doesn't have a friend into his own social group where he pushes them to become the best version of themselves.
In fact, his greatest flaw is having too much faith in people, blinding him to the darkness inside of them.
Love: Maki Harukawa. Furious though she would be to receive this Crest, Maki's capacity for love influences much of her story. Child caregiver for her orphanage, she became an assassin so that someone she loved wouldn't have to.
As the Killing Game progresses, Maki's capacity for love finds her again. Love is what drives some of her biggest and most influential actions.
Purity/Sincerity: Miu Motherfuckin' Iruma, shit-for-tits! If this were the Crest of Innocence, it'd be Gonta for sure. But this is about unfettered self-expression, and Gonta has to remind himself to conduct himself gentlemanly. He has fetters.
Miu, however, does not. Every last stray impulse or thought that hits her brain comes straight out of her mouth, even when it definitely shouldn't. She is honest and sincere self-expression incarnate, like no other.
Knowledge: Shuichi Saihara. Like Kyoko, this one's a no-brainer. Though he's reluctant to commit to the role, the Ultimate Detective is here to uncover the truth. His relationship with curiosity and the pursuit of knowledge defines his story throughout V3.
Sincerity/Reliability: Kirumi Tojo. Do I even need to explain why? The Ultimate Maid is the ultimate caregiver for all of these children. She is the pillar that makes living here sustainable, even comfortable. And she does it all without a single complaint. Caring for others is what she lives for.
Hope: Kaede Akamatsu. Though she isn't with us long, Kaede carries hope in her heart so strongly that it ultimately kills her. There is no greater gesture of hope in the entirety of V3 than Kaede's desperate gamble to try and corner the Mastermind. She risked it all on the belief that she could end everything right then and there.
She was wrong. But her effort earns her the Crest of Hope.
Light: Angie Yonaga. Cult leader and possibly oracle, Angie's life is downright haunted by her spirituality. She is already (allegedly) the vessel of Atua; She's the perfect choice for the vessel of Homeostasis.
Kindness: Gonta Gokuhara. This is the Crest that belongs to Gonta. Gonta is a gentle giant who loves all things big and small, but especially small. Though he can be scary at times, he means you no harm. He just wants you to meet his bugs. He loves bugs and he wants you to love bugs too.
Ultimate Team
So, of the three sets, who best embodies the virtue of their Crest? Let's assemble the team.
Courage: Akane Owari. Mondo ultimately falls short of his values. Tenko does a better job of it, but she's also terrified of pain and cracks easily under pushback, which holds her back from being a true icon of Courage.
But Akane gives zero fucks. She is, in every moment, the person that Mondo and Tenko aspire to be. Bold and headstrong to a fault, Akane Owari is officially the Goggles Boy of this team.
Friendship: Kaito Momota. Junko is hahaha no. Her subversion of the Crest's values pretty much disqualify her. Gundham and Kaito are close. However, while Gundham has a wealth of animal friends, he struggles with direct human-to-human interpersonal contact which costs him.
Kaito, meanwhile, is able to embrace the values of Friendship with open arms. An incorrigible friend-maker and support system for every introvert he kidnapped into his orbit, Kaito is a friend to all and a pillar that can always be leaned on for support, through thick and thin.
Love: This was a close one. Sakura, Fuyuhiko, and Maki all have their strengths, and they all perform incredible feats of love. Honestly, they all deserve the Crest equally. I agonized over this choice. But if I have to have to pick one, then I'm going to go with Maki. Because it's funnier that way.
Purity/Sincerity: Miu Iruma, queen of the overshare. Hifumi and Hiyoko are in-your-face with their personalities and proclivities too, but I feel like Miu goes above and beyond in the field of shameless, unapologetic self-expression.
Knowledge: Kyoko Kirigiri. Though Shuichi's story revolves heavily around deconstructing the pursuit of knowledge, he is by design a pale and unwilling imitation of Kyoko. Sonia's boundless curiosity puts her closer to Kyoko, but there's simply no competing with the Ultimate Detective in the field of pursuing knowledge.
Sincerity/Reliability: Nekomaru Nidai. Ultimately, Taka and Kirumi both crack under pressure, but Nekomaru holds true to his values to the bitter end. This is a man who would give everything for his athletes, and he puts his money where his mouth is twice over.
Hope: Makoto Naegi. Ultimate Hope. Contrary to the way later entries treat him, Makoto did not singlehandedly defeat Junko by shooting lightning from his eyes and disintegrating her. But he was the inspiration at the eleventh hour that burned away despair and made her defeat possible.
A triumph the series has never managed to truly recapture, despite two separate attempts.
Light: Chiaki Nanami. As the conduit to a digital god, it's hard to find someone more appropriate than a humanoid AI. You might think that should disqualify her from being a Chosen Child but I support AI personhood and also something something DR3 retcon says there technically was a real Chiaki so AI Chiaki can just use her Partner and Digivice. Nyeh!
Kindness: Oh fuck me, this one's pretty evenly split too. Chihiro, Mikan, and Gonta all deserve this slot on the team. I can't decide between them. So... I'm going to choose....
Hm, we have three DR2 and three DRV3 to two DR1 in this group. Alright, I'll give this to Chihiro so the numbers can be even. I didn't plan on it being even. But this would make them even and that's pretty neat.
Alright, there we have it. Three teams of Chosen Children and one Avengers-style Ultimate Chosen Children team. Holy shit, that was a hell of a thing. ^_^

Chihiro x Sakura : True Meaning of Strength (part 1)
(This story is an anniversary gift <3)
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
The taunting laugh of the sadistic teddy bear rang through the gym, filling the ears of the students with dread. One student in particular started tearing up from the fear of the situation. That student was Chihiro Fujisaki, the Ultimate Programmer. Chihiro was an interesting student, holding a heavy secret in a cage in his brain, praying no one would ever figure it out. The secret being that Chihiro was actually a boy, in disguise as a defensive strategy to keep safe from bullying. Deep down, the computer prodigy hoped to have a safe place to get stronger and be himself, he just hoped to find a strong man who could offer advice, that is until he met someone who gave some rather game-changing advice.
The morning Monokuma announcement played, waking the programmer from his peaceful dream into the nightmarish reality. Perhaps getting a bite to eat will ease his mind, or so he thought, there was much in that genius brain that would take much more than a meal to fix. Chihiro slipped his shoes on and shuffled on over to the kitchen, where the other students were. There were many colourful characters sitting at that table, and while they were ultimates all the same, Chihiro couldn't help but feel intimidated, especially seeing there were strong students like he hoped. He timidly sat down in the free seat next to a bubbly girl with a red sports jacket, something about her seemed welcoming. Chihiro glanced at the girl next to the swimmer, a rather tall and strong looking fighter, she had multiple scars which further left Chihiro worried, hopefully she was kinder than his anxiety was telling him. Not only her, but another man caught his eye, one that looked rather bored, but something about him left Chihiro with mixed feelings, one that said to avoid at all costs, and the other telling him that this man was who he needed to find. He was snapped out of the thought when a cheerful voice beckoned him.
"Yo! Are you feeling alright? You looked really upset yesterday." The sports girl gave a worried look as Chihiro felt butterflies.
"Y-yeah, I'm okay... I think..." Without warning, a donut was handed to him.
"Be sure to eat something! Donuts always help me feel better!" The girl gave a bright smile that shined on the programmer. "Oops, I forgot to introduce myself! I'm Aoi Asahina, the Ultimate Swimming Pro! What about you?"
Chihiro fiddled his fingers together, "Um, I-I'm Chihiro Fujisaki, the Ultimate Programmer. S-sorry, I get embarrassed when I introduce myself like this."
Aoi couldn't contain her joy as she let out a small giggle, "Y'know, you should hang out with us!" She glanced to the girl beside her, looking both timid and intimidating. "She's my best friend here and I know you two will get along well!"
Chihiro felt a warm sensation in his chest, maybe he doesn't have to fight his journey all alone after all. The cold despair slowly changing into warm hope.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's a lovely feeling to be able to shut off your alarm clock to elongate a blissful dream, to be able to ignore life's struggles and avoid being awoken by such an ear-splitting beep. If only Monokuma had an off switch, then the hope could last as long as the group wanted, but despair isn't sleeping, there will never be a time it will allow a moment of peace in this nightmare school. The laugh of the bear and the dread filling the room was enough to make you forget the pleasant conversations with fellow students just hours beforehand. Chihiro quietly sobbed at the desk he was sat at, the computer screen showing his own PC at home cracked and bloodied with the blood of his father, who had been most likely harmed by the mastermind. The room felt dark and lonesome despite the other students in their respective desks, the programmer's world came crashing down harder than it had the previous evening. It had felt as if the hope no longer existed, that it was time to give up, but there was always a light at the end of a dark tunnel, no matter how grueling and frightening, even if the light is in the form of a rather colossal hand.
"Hey, do not let the despair overtake your mind." The hand had gently rested on his petite shoulder, followed by a massive figure behind him. "This may seem like the end, but we must stay strong and continue the fight against that bear."
Chihiro sniffled and shifted his head to get a look at the figure, who had happened to be Aoi's friend he was introduced to, or rather acknowledged. "U-um..." He stammered but couldn't get the words out.
"My name is Sakura Ogami, we had briefly met this morning. Aoi trusts you, so I would like to become more acquainted with you. Your name is Chihiro, correct?"
Chihiro could feel the warmth returning to light up the dark. "Y-yeah, I am. N-nice to meet you." He gave a shy smile, but a genuine one.
"It is a pleasure to meet you as well, let's fight together, and never succumb to despair. I shall be there for you whenever you need me." The martial artist gave a sweet, reassuring smile, turning to go check up on Aoi.
As cruel and bitter life seemed, there was always the bright light to help him see. However, Chihiro had more personal issues he was unsure of going about, but he'll figure that out eventually, hopefully.
Hihi!! I was wondering if I would be able to request Ryoma, Akane, Mondo, Chihiro, and Nekomaru with a S/O thats like Mitsuri from Demon Slayer?
Tumblr media
Okay, i-i never saw demon slayer.... i know, i know, im strange- so everything on this is based on the fanon wiki, i hope you like this anyways <3
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ryoma Hoshi:
Tumblr media
Okay- he's not that big on love but-
You?? Yes.
You have a loving aura that makes everyone smile, surprisingly, even him.
Ryoma can see the love in your eyes when you look at him, as if the look in your eyes spoke to him.
The way that you giggle and blush everytime you look at him, The way that you play with your hair, looking away when he kisses you.
But.
He doesn't understand.. why..
Why do you like Him? He's a criminal. You Hate violence. so why him? You hate anything who harms the others. so why? You are supposed to hate him.
but you dont.
you praise and compliment him, you give him your love and affection, you say you love him.
Ryoma can't understand the way you think. but he understands that he loves you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Akane Owari:
Tumblr media
Akane is absolutly in love with you.
She's confused by you. like- how can someone be so???
Kind, loving, sweet, caring. You are the walking definition of a angel!
If you like PDA she can and will cuddle you for eternity
You panic every time she gets hurt after training with Nekomaru
"Nah, relax babe! its just a scrath! im okay i swear!"
immediately hugs you after
bear hugs!
Seriously, akane is so in love with you, the way you are so kind with everybody, the way you show affection is just---
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mondo Owada:
Tumblr media
you two are the completely opposite of eachother, someone who's always ready for a fight and you a loving and peaceful person.
Protects you from literally anything and everything.
Tries to keep his strong/mean persona around you and fails miserably everytime you smile at him.
Treats like a literal angel, its the least he could do for someone so caring and loving like you.
Mondo is easily pissed off, so he could be starting a fight and then:
"listen here ya punk! you wanna fight huh?! do your worst."
Owada feels a hand on his shoulder, he looks behind him as sees you asking him to stop.
He apologizes to you hugging you and walks away from the fight holding your hand.
Completely in love with you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chihiro Fujisaki:
Tumblr media
Two loving pacifists? hell yeah.
Tries to be as affectionate to you as you are with him.
Before you shower the boy with affection, please note that he's easily flustered.
Chihiro can literally just hold hands with you and be red like a tomato.
Shower you with all the love and affection he can
oh, and a bonus! you and him dislike violence so you dont have to worry about him getting in a fight or anything like that!
tell chihiro you love him and see him get all happy and blushy.
" I- i love you too! hehehe~"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nekomaru Nidai:
Tumblr media
Another one that showers you with affection and bear hugs!
Would a hundred percent hug you for all the eternity.
completly in love with you
everytime he looks at you you can see little hearts in his eyes.
is a 100% sweetheart with you. carries you around bridal style.
Nekomaru dislikes violence too. He swears on his life that he only fights akane for training and that he dont really hurts her.
thinks you're the cutest thing in the whole world. Can and will give you twice the affection you give him.
"You're too cute heheheh~ i wanna hold you forever."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hope you enjoyed! if you want me to change anything please tell me! <3
Of An Endless Infinity: Day Eight (II)
Summary: What does it mean to be the Ultimate Hope?
Is it only hope on the big scale?  That the world is not so dark and depressing and destructive as the villain in front of you says it is?  That you can win, even when everything else says that you can’t?  That maybe it is better to live your life, even afraid, than it is to keep yourself sequestered away, alone?
Does it not also mean hope on the small scale?
Or: Makoto sacrifices himself in the hope that the other survivors might be able to help Junko. It remains to be seen whether this will actually succeed.
Chapter Rating: T. Fic Rating: M for Danganronpa reasons.
AO3
previous chapter | next chapter
Day Eight (of an Endless Infinity).
The world feels empty and hollow.
Hah.
What a laugh.
There’s no way of knowing what the world outside of this place feels like.  Her memories come and go, and any attempt to try and gain more than what she has leaves her brain aflame with an itching not unlike that when her hands first began to heal, when her skin first began to grow back, when all she wanted was to scratch and scratch until she tore the new skin from her hands (and did, on more than one occasion).  But she can’t scratch at her brain the way she scratched at her hands, and something tells her that even if she could, she would only cause irreparable damage – do more harm than good.
Scratching at her itching hands didn’t make them heal any faster.  If anything, it only made the healing take longer.  Picking and prying at her mind in an attempt to pull more memories from it than what it’s given won’t make her regain those memories any faster.  If anything, it may only make it take longer.
It’s a push and pull at this point.
Kyoko wants to remember everything.
Kyoko wants to remember nothing.
Maybe the world outside doesn’t feel empty and hollow, but the old school building certainly does.  Even if she didn’t spend much time with them after they’d woken with their memories stolen, Kyoko can’t help but look at the different rooms and see the ghosts of those now dead: Sayaka, Sakura, Chihiro, Makoto.  With one glaring exception, she’s never been the sort to linger on her memories of the departed.  She’s a detective; her entire work is dissociating herself from the emotions that come with death and murder and gruesome betrayal.
But that doesn’t mean the emotions aren’t there.
The building feels empty and hollow as Kyoko walks alone through it because all she can see are the other students who should be here, the staff who should be here: teachers in each of the classrooms, nurses in the Nurses’ Office, coaches in the gym or the pool or the locker rooms.  It’s too big for just six people.  Even if the others were to have children (Kyoko cannot imagine that for herself, but the others, maybe), it still wouldn’t be enough to fill this building the way it was meant – it was designed – to be filled.  Even when there were sixteen of them, even with their deceased headmaster—
This is not the way it was meant to be.
It isn’t.
And the entirety of this small tragedy, birthed and eclipsed by a much larger one that she still cannot remember but has to believe exists, finds its root in a woman who she had, at one point, loved.
She, Kyoko Kirigiri, whose entire Talent is wrapped up in discovering people’s secrets, had been blindsided because…because what?  Because she’d let herself be vulnerable?  Again?  Because she’d tried again to take a chance on someone and been betrayed by her?
(She’d taken a chance on Makoto, too.  He might have been a better person, but the end result was the same.  Betrayed and locked in an old school building too big for her with no hope of ever getting out.)
Kyoko doesn’t quite think as she walks through the school.  For once in her life, she lets go of the puzzle her mind wants to twist and twist until she can come to some sort of conclusion (satisfactory or not), and she just wanders.  Eventually, she finds herself just outside the Data Processing Room.  Junko acted as though she suspected someone else was still using the room, even though they were no longer broadcasting—
Why does it matter what Junko thinks?  Why does it matter if anyone else has been looking through the video cameras at them?  If they’ve been listening in on their conversations?  Why should she care?
(It’s another layer of the mystery.  Of the puzzle that she finally – finally – put down.  Junko wanted to speak with her where someone couldn’t hear them, which meant that Junko wanted to be honest with her about something, which meant that Junko was concerned about someone else listening in on them.  It’s another part of the Game.  Not a new one.  A different part of the same old one, separated from the murders and the trials.
Or maybe it isn’t entirely.
Maybe this one is for a kind of murder that Kyoko can’t quite quantify yet, in the same way that Junko murdered a portion of all of them when she tore their memories away.  A murder with one of the oldest motives in the book: Revenge.)
Kyoko picks the puzzle up once again, presses one gloved hand on the Data Processing Room’s door, and enters.
Nothing looks obviously different.  It would be fortunate if someone else was already here, but the room is completely empty.  Of course, they could be using Junko’s hidden room, but they would need to know her passcode for that, would need to know how to get into the secret tunnels.  She has no reason to believe that Junko would have revealed any of that intentionally to anyone.
Unless….
Kyoko glances up to the camera in the back corner.  Whoever it is might be looking at her now.  That’s fine.  Let them look.  Let them know.
She makes her way to the far room – the Monokuma Room – and tries the handle.  Unlocked.  A smile curves at one corner of her lips.
Good.
Kyoko shuts the door behind her as she sneaks inside and then bends down to test the door of the hatch in the floor in the very center of the room.  For a moment, she considers that there might be a passcode for it the same as there is for the rest of Junko’s secret tunnels, but all of those also had secret panels to go with their secret code.  But there’s no panel, no code necessary for this hatch, and when she gives it a tug, it lifts.  Inside, a metallic ladder leads down into the darkness.  Kyoko glances around, finds no cameras in the Monokuma Room like there were in the Data Processing Room, and turns just enough to lock the door behind her before stepping down onto the first rung of the ladder.
Unlike some people, Kyoko leaves the hatch open so that she has enough light to illuminate her way down, enough light to find her way back up again without hitting her head on a closed hatch.  Still, the darkness around her grows deeper, grows darker as she follows the ladder until, finally, her boots hit something more solid than a single rung.  She reaches around her for a light switch of some sort, finds one, and flicks it on.
There are two rooms.
The one in which she’s found herself is not nearly so large as one of their dorms and perhaps is only slightly larger than the Monokuma Room itself, as large as the above room might be if it didn’t have all of the machinery required to run Monokuma in it.  Similar to the secret room hidden behind Junko’s dorm, there’s a pair of beds set into the curve of the wall, one on either side.  But trash litters the metallic floor in a way that it didn’t in that room, trash so thick and deep that Kyoko feels as though she’s wading through it.  Some clothes are scattered here and there, draped over one of the beds, the one that looks as though it’s never been used.  It’s the other bed that draws Kyoko’s attention – the one that looks as though it has been used, with its green sheets pulled back as though whoever was sleeping there had been in a hurry, a second pillow on the side nearest the wall as though whoever once slept there clung to it.
The other room, however.
Kyoko walks across to a thick metallic door of the same sort that once sealed the Monokuma Room shut, although not decorated in a similar fashion.  Instead the word 未来 – mirai, future – is scrawled on it in thick pink bubble letters with hearts on either side of it.  The door has no handle, only a keypad.  She runs a finger along the keypad, notes the letters under each number as though this were an old telephone, and tests a few passwords as they come to mind.  None of them work.  She must not know Junko well enough, must not remember Junko well enough yet.
Which leaves the beds to inspect.
As she starts to make her way through the sheets, under the pillows, under the mattress, Kyoko thinks that someone else must have been in this room before her, someone else must have examined these things just the way she is now, someone else must have remembered this room existed and was left unexamined while she was preoccupied with Junko.  When she finds nothing in Junko’s bed save for a small teddy bear – or two halves of one stitched together with red thread, such that this very well might have been the earliest version of Monokuma, the way his left eye has been ripped into that horrid red symbol – she begins to examine the other bed.
That’s when she finds it.
Just under the mattress, tucked into its fitted sheet, is another notebook.
Kyoko pulls it out.  It looks like a normal notebook, just like the ones that Junko gave to Toko so many days ago, only this one isn’t as old, isn’t as worn out.  She flips it over to see the front cover and reads, in blaring big black letters, Ryoko Otonashi’s Memory Notebook.
Her eyes widen.
Then she tucks the notebook into her inside jacket pocket alongside her own, picks up the not-quite-Monokuma plush bear, turns the light back off, and starts to climb the ladder back into the Monokuma Room.
~
Kyoko doesn’t have a way to lock the Monokuma Room behind her when she leaves, but that’s less of a concern when she finds Byakuya waiting for her in the Data Processing Room, arms crossed and that smug, arrogant expression on his face as normal.  When he catches sight of the plush bear tucked under her arm, his eyes narrow.  She knows that nothing she says will assuage his annoyance, but she says it anyway, “It’s just a stuffed animal.”
“It’s a Monokuma.”
“Monokuma was very clear.  He’s not a stuffed animal.”  Kyoko pulls the stuffed bear out from under her arm and holds it aloft.  “Do you really believe that this thing is a threat?”
Monokuma barely broke two feet; the stuffed animal Kyoko holds out is maybe half of that at most.  It feels like nothing more than stuffing and stitching, although knowing its owner, there’s likely something else stuffed within its cotton, something that Kyoko will only find if she undoes the threads tying the two halves together or sticks fingers into the hole where his left eye has been ripped into another shape.  But this, too, could be a red herring, just like so many other things throughout the Game were.  Kyoko’s intuition says there’s nothing dangerous about this bear.  That doesn’t mean it can’t be something else.
Byakuya glares at the plush bear but keeps his arms crossed and does not reach out for it.  “I believe that anything created by our dear mastermind is a possible threat.  Especially cutesy teddy bears in the image of our dear departed headmaster.”
Monokuma isn’t dead, Kyoko wants to correct him, but she doesn’t.  The tension is thick enough without getting into a battle over words.  “What do you want, Byakuya?”
“I want to know what you’re taking back to your little girlfriend—”
“Junko isn’t my girlfriend,” Kyoko interrupts, doing her best to shove down the bile that creeps up the back of her throat as her brain brings up the memory of kissing Junko again, a memory she’d finally been able to forget.
Byakuya meets her eyes with a cocky, smug curve to his lips, like he knows something she doesn’t.  “What have you remembered?”
“Enough.”  Kyoko holds his gaze with her own, furious.  Then she tucks the plush bear back under her arm and starts to pass him by.  When he places a hand on her shoulder, she turns—
Normally Kyoko is not strong, and she is not fast, but her grandfather taught her certain forms of self-defense for moments where her detective work got her into trouble, moments just like this one, and her itching mind brings that muscle memory to the forefront now, so when she turns, when she whirls, she grabs his arm and twists until he kneels before her.  “Do not touch me, Byakuya.”
In spite of the pain she knows she is causing, Byakuya spits out a laugh.  “If you’re trying to prove you aren’t a threat, this is an interesting way of doing it.”  He looks up at her with that arrogant smirk.  “Maybe you are the one who shouldn’t touch me.”
“Is that a threat?’
“No,” Byakuya says, still holding her gaze without a wince of pain.  “It’s an assurance.”
Despite this (and despite the way her hand twinges where it is still healing, twinges where it never has), Kyoko holds him there for a minute more, just for the future benefits of knowing that she could hold Byakuya still (or showing him that she could), even if it’s doing her no good at all.  She leans forward while holding him in place and says, clear as she can, “I remember exactly what Junko was to me before, Byakuya.  But what she was before and what she is now are two entirely different things.  If you – or anyone else – cannot see that, then you are the fools.  Not me.”  She releases him with enough of a shove that he stumbles to the floor.  “I did not vote for us to stay here, and I am not in love with Junko Enoshima.”
Byakuya pushes himself up with one hand and fixes his glasses with the other.  “Don’t protest too much, Kyoko,” he murmurs.  “It makes you less believable.”
Kyoko leaves the room without another word – without another protestation, as Byakuya would call it – but smiles to herself as the door shuts behind her.  She’d suspected that Junko suspected that someone else was using the video cameras to follow them; this altercation proves them both right.  Byakuya should never have known she would be in the Data Processing Room – or in the Monokuma Room – and he certainly shouldn’t have suspected she would go down the hatch or bring anything back from it.  Not from their discussions.  Not from anything she’d said or done prior to this exact moment.
But he had.
Not only had Byakuya known where she was, he’d acknowledged the plush as a threat, as something she might be taking back to Junko for some nefarious purpose.
Sure, there are holes in her line of thought, but at this point, Kyoko is fairly certain.  Her intuition screams it at her.  Byakuya is using the video cameras.  And somehow, he’s using the ones in Junko’s secret room, even though he shouldn’t know the passcode or how to find one of the panels to test any of it out.
However, Kyoko knows that to be true.  She can follow his train of thought that far.
She just can’t guess his end goal.
I tried to hold back, but— it itches now. Guys, may I just pipe up in the tag regarding the derek of it all, and without much buffoonery on my part this time (apologies; buffoonery is a reflex)?
Tumblr media
Derek being unromanceable is not a silly joke or tease, nor is it an oversight. It's not a call for fixes, it's not an injustice.
Derek is a test of your integrity. A moral lesson to be learned. Derek is an allegory.
I refuse to believe that he is just there, with no subtext. Even if he is; too good and juicy of a coincidence. Fits into the eco narrative too well. No, I think it's intentional. I think even his name is intentional; it's of Dutch origin. (wiki: History of Indonesia; colonial era)
This game was/is being written by people from a high-context culture, people raised on narratives that rarely, if ever, contain only one layer. In a country that's been ravaged, among other things, by colonialism. Then, later on — and to this day — by hordes of inconsiderate tourists, by oil companies, by widespread deforestation in the name of farming palm oil, etc etc. In short, by capitalism and consumer culture. They came and they offered money. Offered something seemingly easy and appealing. And in exchange, they proceeded to ruin the land, and are doing it to this day.
So there he stands, this lovely Derek-from-outside, all sexy and manly and conventionally attractive; and there your mesmerized eyes linger on his muscled, hairy chest, his bulging arms, his alabaster skin with a light dusting of pink, his chiseled features, his styled faux-hawk, his ‘builder's’ attire that looks like it was made for a stripper, not a builder. He's so APPEALING, so hot, so TEMPTING, so enticing. Surely he means no harm, right? Surely he was placed there for a reason? Surely the reason is you? Mmmmmm he's so friendly, staring at you with these dreamy eyes… with that sexy smirk…
But what is happening behind Derek’s wide back while you're gawking? Ah. Some hired workers are constructing an office of an oil drilling company … A foreign company that is complicit in spills, in the damage to the coral reefs; a company that plans on taking advantage of the sorry state of the island — by offering an easy (destructive) way out. The company that is, for all intents and purposes, your antagonist in the game.
Unless you're a soulless sellout, your main goal is to drive them out.
When the office is all done, Derek is gone. Why would he not be? And why would he be interested in an actual relationship with you? Yes, of course the reason is you. You’re just a dummy to be duped, and he has done that; he's fulfilled his mission. He was tasked with enticing you and distracting you; he needed to stop you from entering the construction site, to stop you from doing, saying, thinking anything but ‘oh wow now that's one maximum derek, I'd love me some of this meat’. Has he succeeded? If you are now enthralled by him so much that you are pining, if you gave in to greed — despite so many characters already being there for you to woo — then you have made the Error. You have failed to learn the moral lesson. It has meta-spilled over through the fourth wall.
And you have turned into a pig.
Before you clobber me for saying the latter; I am alluding to Spirited Away. Remember how it starts? Chihiro's parents see the food and are enticed by it. Mmmmm looks mouth-watering ... Aren't you hungry, Chihiro? Come and eat. Just grab it. Forget your manners, forget your worries. Indulge. Dad has a lot of crisp money on hand, some of it on credit cards! ... It does not even occur to him that the price to pay might not be money; the capitalism-induced entitlement, the false sense of security, the illusion that money buys everything and that everything and everyone can be bought with money, and that Greed is Good, already has a strong grip on Chihiro's parents.
See: motifs; food and what it represents in Spirited Away; Spirited Away as a critique of the failures of capitalism/ allegory of modern Japan and its relationship with the 'West': [1], [2], [3]. (there's a lot of essays, I'm just shoving random ones here).
Derek is that food. Do not eat.
...Point being. I firmly believe that the derek was intentional (again, remember: a high-context culture) and that the correct moral choice is to never, EVER buy into the derek. Instead of lamenting derek not being boinkable, what you need to do — both diegetically, through your character, and not diegetically, through understanding the message — is to check yourself and Reject. The. Derek.
… Unless you aim to play as a foreign opportunist / ruthless villain who wants to destroy the reefs. Then yeah, Derek might be a good match for a character like that. Or, of course, Derek might get a redemption arc. Personally, I'd rather he didn't; would cheapen the message. But I'm just a narrative-cromching doofus from the very-very opposite side of Asia; ultimately I'm here to offer an opinion, nothing else. However, another thing I'd like to say, or more like implore: please don't westernize/americanize everything you set your eyes on, I beg of you 🙏 CI was conceived specifically so that there'd be an alternative to the all-encompassing derek.
OK SO IVE BEEN PUTTING THIS OFF FOR A WHILE SINCE I KNOW THERE ARE A LOT OF TAKA AND MONDO LINES THAT MAKE ME SO SO CRAZY. in other words, it'd be SO difficult to actually choose just ONE. So I'm gonna try and drop two lines per character! Some serious lines that make me think way too in-depth, and then some of my favorite, sillier lines (there are a lot of those). We'll start with Mondo for a change! Favorite serious line:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I ACTUALLY GOT SCREENSHOTS OF THIS ONE! This is the line I've been so so crazy about lately because where Mondo did obvious harm to Chihiro, Chihiro also caused harm to Mondo. If her OWN actions didn't hurt him, then he wouldn't have phrased it like this. While Chihiro obviously wouldn't know the specifics, she still absolutely knew that everybody was under the pressure of their secrets, and due to the severity of her own secret there was know way she couldn't have guessed that Mondo's may also carry a level of severity. This is Mondo at his literal breaking point. He has another line later where he describes his anxiety over his secret as "A rock in my stomach". This is a guy whose entire perception of himself is hanging on a thread, and I think the revelation that Chihiro is his definition of strong (AKA capable of violence) is what makes everything completely unfurl. The façade can't remain stable if it's lost all meaning.
Favorite silly line:
Tumblr media
HES SO STUPID also there are so many lines in school mode about how he NEEDS TO GO OUTSIDE so fucking bad like he has GOT to get out of here. I think you have adhd queen OK now for la Smackas Favorite Serious Line: Ok so my favorite is less of a singular line and really just. The BULK of his final FTE. We learn SO much about Taka in that last event obviously, and it all contextualizes him as a person, but one thing I NEVER see people discuss is the implication that he and Makoto are direct OPPOSITES of eachother. Where Makoto feels ordinary and even somewhat wishes she could be put on a pedestal, Kiyotaka is put on a pedestal against his will by Hope's Peak, and DESPERATELY, more than ANYTHING, wants to be viewed as normal. A task that is made damn near IMPOSSIBLE because of his past with Toranosuke, as well as the path he decided to go down on his own accord. It's kinda like this self-fulfilling prophecy that he is destined to NEVER have the normal life that he so desperately wants. Meanwhile, here's Makoto, who is living his dream before he ever gets a CHANCE to realize it.
Favorite silly line:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Everyone likes to point to trial 1 or the endurance battle for the funny Kiyotaka lines but he spits out some fucking DIAMONDS in school mode. This guy has so much wrong with him its insane...
Yandere Reaction: Danganronpa v1 with a darling who has the superpower of Healing/Resurrect
Makoto Naegi:
It’s actually very thankful his darling has these powers in order to keep everyone else alive. However, he also knows that if whoever was behind the killing game found out about their power then that would mean great harm to them so he stays around them as much as he can in order to protect them.
Chihiro Fujisaki:
Similar to Makoto he is also very grateful that they have this power, but it’s also worried for what may happen if the mastermind were to find out about their power so intern, he does protect them as much as he can.
Byakuya Togami:
It does annoy him because he knows that whatever plan he had of getting rid of anyone is out the window given that as soon as darling resurrects someone then they could just tell everyone what happened of course that’s just means that he has to make an even better plan but it’s still going to be a pain.
Leon Kuwata:
He is also aware that if he does anything that it would just come back to bite him but there is still a chance, he still may try it because on the other hand there is a good chance that his darling will bring him back since they are willing to bring back both victims and killer.
Hifumi Yamada:
He is more just amazed at their power and believes them to possibly be invincible, especially if they could heal themselves. So, he won’t worry too much about them unless he sees how the mastermind is trying to harm them, in that case, he does start to get worried.
Yasuhiro Hagakure:
He would try to get them to hide their power as much as they could and possibly try and convince them not to revive some of the others depending on the situation.
Mondo Owada:
In a way he does kind of see a green light to be able to protect his darling by getting rid of some of the others since when they do get brought back they would know not to do whatever it is that made him angry again although at some point he realize there is a chance that if he does these things that his darling may not revive him so he’s kind of on a thin line when it comes to this option.
Kiyotaka Ishimaru:
She loves the fact that his darling has this power but is fearful for what may happen to them if a certain someone was to find out so he does urge them to kind of keep it quiet but also urges them to help as much as they can as long as they’re willing.
Toko Fukawa:
The only reason she doesn’t like their power is because she sees it as bringing back competition for her and does urge them not to bring back everyone if not just certain people.
Kyoko Kirigiri:
She is actually managing to keep her cool, also realizing just what it means for them to have this power during this situation being stuck in a killing game, which means that she will watch over them a lot more closely and is very protective over them during this time.
Celestia Ludenberg:
She will definitely try to get her darling to just let the others die unless it was her or her darling, especially if the only other reason was if she actually had a plan that she believed was full proof.
Aoi Asahina:
The only time she would maybe try to talk to her darling about not bringing someone back would be if they were the killers of course but if they were the victims then she would urge her to darling maybe leave them alone.
Sakura Ogami:
She would help her darling as much as she can while also protecting them and unlike the others, she would leave up to her darling who they want to heal or resurrection.
Sayaka Maizono:
She always makes sure her darling “picks the right ones” to come back (which is no one.) She is wary of who finds out about their power so she will have them keep it a secret for as long as possible.
Junko Enoshima:
She must never know that her darling has this power because if she does, she’s going to use it to make the other students' lives even more hellish. Because she will make her darling revive someone just to kill them again, making it an endless loop of death bringing even more despair knowing that there’s no way out of it whether they’re alive or dead.
Mukuro Ikusaba:
She hides her darling's power from her sister as long as she can even if it means they don’t use it at all.
Okay, having given more thought to the Descendants Danganronpa AU idea, this is the alignment I've come up with:
Mal- Ultimate Dragon (in which "Dragons" is the name of her mother's criminal empire). Basically the rough equivalent to Fuyuhiko being the Ultimate Yakuza, in SDR2. (And character-design-wise, I see her having designs shaved into her hair, like Fuyuhiko. Her style of dress would be more Junko-but-with-leather.) She's the type to keep saying she'll kill someone, as a means of putting on a brave face, while really she's terrified because she knows she's not much of a fighter without backup.
She is right up there with Chad, as far as ruining any solidarity or group synergy is concerned. But she's more deliberately manipulative about it, in that she will use the lack of unity and trust to place herself in a kind of leadership role. Basically, feeding the idea that they will start killing each other if they don't have a leader to keep them in check, and that anyone who doesn't want her leadership is trying to start the killings (again). This doesn't really succeed in giving her control over them, but she is influential. She's able to sway most of them to distrust Harry.
Because she would be filling the role of Danganronpa Antagonist, it would be too obvious to make her a killer, so she would probably get killed late in the story. I feel like she would die screwing someone over, so maybe someone like Doug kills her in self-defense when she tries to kill him or Harry kills her for plotting to harm Uma.
Evie- Ultimate Fashionista. She is both a fashion designer and a model. I could see her having a hairstyle similar to Celeste's. (Maybe shorter springs, and more of them on each side.) Before they find out about the killing game, she's very bubbly and extroverted, but as soon as the first murder happens, she becomes very serious (but still kind).
She and Audrey became fast friends, and they remain so the whole time, but she is much more secretive and careful than Audrey. She and Audrey are often arm-in-arm, but she is also enough of a social butterfly to be friends with Jay and Carlos. (She thinks Jay is funny and sympathizes with Carlos's shyness, and she admires both of their talents.) As far as her role in the story, I could see her being kind of a mix between Kirumi and Kaede in DRV3. She is secretly plotting to kill the mastermind.
She would not get murdered, but she might murder and get executed. I don't think she survives the killing game.
Jay- Ultimate Gymnast; his backstory would be very similar to Akane's in SDR2, in that he comes from poverty and did parkour and other feats of athleticism to get out of trouble when he had to steal to survive, and ultimately ended up racking up accolades in gymnastics when he got discovered by the "right" people.
In the killing game and in life, he pretends to be less intelligent than he is, because things go better for him when he is underestimated. In the trials, he makes really astute observations, but he always phrases them as questions or jokes or otherwise obliquely prompts the other smart ones to get to the truth. His intelligence and his feigned ignorance are very effective at keeping him safe. I think he survives the killing game.
Carlos- Ultimate Technician. His skill set is a cross between Chihiro's and Miu's, in that he's talented in both hardware and software. He would be very shy, before they find out about the killing game. Once they do learn about it, though, he would go into self-defense mode, which for him is very stoic and determined.
He would try to trust the others at first, but after the first murder happens, he gets scared and desperate. Not necessarily a bad thing. He might hole up in his dorm room for a few days and then come out having created a device that would send out an EMP that disables Monokuma and all the cameras. As soon as he's done this, it takes Carlos like ten seconds to disassemble Monokuma entirely, and then he makes for the front door to see if he's succeeded in powering down the guns and locks. On the way there, though, all the lights in the building would go off. The mastermind is desperate to keep them from escaping, and Carlos has caused them a lot of inconvenience with these technical difficulties. When the lights turn back on, Carlos's EMP device is gone, someone has been murdered, and now they have to investigate and do a trial. (If we're going absolutely heartbreaking, maybe Evie knew that the mastermind would make a move once the lights were off and accidentally killed Carlos while trying to kill the mastermind.)
I don't think the mastermind would want him to survive, but he might make it maybe.
Uma- Ultimate Survivor, but she introduces herself as the Ultimate Swimmer because it's easier to explain and one of her survival skills is not attracting interest. Even before she knows she's in a killing game, she knows better than to entice potential murderers; someone known as the "Ultimate Survivor" would be like catnip to them. Really, she is a good swimmer, but she's also very good at making it out of bad situations alive.
She herself is not famous, but she's gotten out of a lot of famous catastrophes, to the point that the academy took note. (Maybe she fell into a shark tank as a kid and managed to swim to the edge and climb out without being eaten. And then as a preteen she went on a spelunking field trip, the cave collapsed, and she led her whole class to safety. And then as a teen she was cornered by the Ultimate Serial Killer and managed to talk them out of killing her. Etc.) They have studied her luck, since it's statistically weird that she has ended up in so many fiascos.
She bonds with Harry before they find out about the killing game, and before she finds out what his Ultimate is. She's able to get along with pretty much anyone, and she has her moments with most everyone in the group, but Harry she connects with on an unusual level. They're close friends, by the time Mal tries to turn the whole group against him.
Character-design-wise, she wears a lot of layers, to conceal survival tools. She wears her hair in turquoise braids, and they're all tied back out of her way. She wears a braided necklace that unweaves into a very long rope, if needed. Her belt has lots of dangling carabiners and such.
The fact that she expects danger at every turn can actually become comedic; whenever new areas of the school are opened up to them, she immediately learns incredibly specific things about each place, like which room is the best to hide in if there's an earthquake, or which is the greatest fire hazard, etc. She is very mocking of the mastermind and the ridiculousness of Monokuma. I think she survives, but also I could see a Danganronpa death in which the killer lures her to a particular room by making it seem like there's an earthquake or something. But narratively she probably lives, because the characters who lose someone close to them over the course of the game usually do. (Foreshadowing.)
Harry- Ultimate Assassin. Very similar backstory to Jay, but he got discovered by the "wrong" people, who found other uses for his talents. (Namely, hiring him to kill people. He is very good at it.) In fact, Harry and Jay used to be friends when they were children. They stole food together.
In the trials, Harry is an asset because of his real life experience. He can easily determine what would and wouldn't be an instant killing blow, etc. He can look at the blood-covered object left in the room and say, "That ain't the murder weapon. For that kind of fracture, the killer would have to swing it like this, and..." etc. He is also accused of murder in pretty much every trial, because...well...Ultimate Assassin.
Harry assumes a wild and carefree attitude as a defense mechanism. I think he dresses in dark colors, since he sneaks around for a living. Maybe his outfit is something like what Zuko and Katara wear in the Southern Raiders episode of Avatar. (Ooh, and his eyeliner is done like Mondo from the first Danganronpa game!) But he would also have a fair amount of bling: gifts from his employers.
He pretends not to remember Jay. He laughs/giggles at inappropriate times, out of stress. He gravitates toward Uma's stability and clear-headedness, and she enjoys his snarky and grim sense of humor. He gets really protective of her once things start to heat up. He also bonds with Gil and Lonnie, but he is especially close to Uma. He actually earns her trust.
I don't think he survives the killing game.
Gil- Ultimate Animal Caregiver. He could go so many ways, and I thought about lots of options, but I think I'm going to say he takes care of animals. His backstory can be that his dad taught him how to hunt but he could never kill animals without crying, so instead he takes care of animals. Feels like it's kind of stealing one of Carlos's main things, but Gaston does hunt and Gil does love animals; this alignment of talents feels right to me. Gil in this universe raises puppies and cats and mayhap some hamsters. It was this or Ultimate Archer or some other physical one. I like this one, okay?
He is not great at figuring out the cases, but he has a knack for running into important clues by accident or being told important things by the killer or victim, either because the killer underestimates him or the victim trusts him. In a normal Danganronpa game, I'm pretty sure he dies, since no one with a different body type ever survives those games. For this AU, though, I think he does survive the killing game. No one wants to try killing him, and he wouldn't hurt them unprovoked.
Chad- Ultimate Affluent Progeny. Like Byakuya, but way dumber. He would spend the whole killing game accusing people wildly and almost at random. I could see him being a victim, or getting a murder pinned on him, or killing someone in a panic and then trying so hard to convince everyone he didn't do it that he straight up cries in the courtroom. Of course, this is leaning into the Descendants franchise's steady Flanderization of Chad, so like I said, it could go plenty of ways. Maybe, hearkening to him getting Evie to do his homework for him, he convinces someone to kill for him. Probably not though. I don't think he survives.
Audrey- Ultimate Princess. Like Sonia in SDR2, she's an exchange student who is heir to the throne of her homeland. She is already a huge fan of Evie's work, and Evie is already a huge fan of her, so they become besties right away. (Maybe they're wearing practically the same outfit, but in different colors.) Audrey is more openly emotional than Evie; she isn't a very strong investigator, because all of the murders impact her very deeply. Evie's death especially hits her hard. This results in a degree of character development that pretty much guarantees she'll make it to the end of the game. I think she does survive.
Jane- Ultimate Lucky Student. She won the drawing to be a part of this class, and just in general stuff tends to work out for her. She has great organizational skills, but not the sort of talent the academy really looks for. General competency isn't an ultimate. She's pretty good at helping to solve the cases, though. I think probably someone tries to murder her but her luck causes them to fail and she accidentally kills them, meaning she now has to be executed. Or maybe she survives the whole game. Could go either way.
Ben- Ultimate Moral Compass. He gets this title partially by getting good grades and not breaking any rules, but also because he does a lot of charity work and vocally advocates for a lot of social causes. He would be ineffectually going "Wait! Guys! We need to get along! This is just what Monokuma wants!" the whole time. (Again, if we're bowing to his Flanderization in canon.) He might pull a Makoto and get absolutely decked trying to break up a conflict.
Some of the other characters would call him naive, but a lot of them are endeared by it. He wants to believe in Mal and ultimately suffers for it. He might survive the game, though. Or she tricks him into, like, holding a rope that sets off a Rube Goldberg machine of murder and he ends up getting executed, fully convinced that he deserved it despite it being her fault.
Doug- Ultimate Musician. He plays a lot of instruments. He'd be the character whose role is to point out when the other characters say something weird by repeating the thing they just said, but as a question. Maybe he and Mal would have Kokichi and Kiibo vibes, in that Mal would go out of her way to bully him for no reason. Anyway, I'm pretty sure he doesn't survive. I could see him in a class trial going "Wait! But that's not fair! I didn't mean to!" And it probably isn't fair and he probably didn't mean to, but that's how the game works.
Lonnie- Ultimate Swordsman. Sort of completely ignores all the social tensions; she doesn't care about who leads, she doesn't care that Harry is an assassin. She's basically cool with everyone unless they bother her. I feel like, in an actual Danganronpa game, she would die in a really stupid way for a really stupid reason. Like, she'd be a Chapter 3 murder (meaning one of two), and we find out that she walked into the kitchen while the killer was taping a bunch of forks together or something and got killed because she saw too much. And the killer bonks her on the head as a surprise attack and pretends she drowned in the sink. (Has Danganronpa ruined my brain? No, I'm sure it's fine.) Anyway, that being said, she would also be a cool survivor.
One of them could be the mastermind, or some throwaway character like Zevon or Ariana could be in the mix.
To recap, likely survivors are Jay, Uma, Gil, and Audrey. Maybe survivors are Jane, Ben, and Lonnie.
chihiro isn't meant to be transmasc chihiro's backstory is meant to mock/deny the existence of trans women..
You're not wrong. "Male character cross-dressing" is an oversimplified and harmful way that a lot of cis creators look at trans people.
But at the same time, "Female-presenting character strives to become comfortable with coming out as male" is very much a transmasc journey.
In the process of writing Chihiro, they ended up coding him as something completely different. To the point that if they had just cut off the "Biologically AMAB" part of his backstory (and subsequent gross discovery of said detail), they would have created a fine trans character.
I'm willing to give some benefit of doubt because the series lionizes Chihiro. He's beloved by everyone, even his killer, and his work goes on to shape the course of Danganronpa 1 and 2 in pivotal ways.
He's treated as a Sacrificial Lamb; A character so pure and innocent and good that it breaks everyone's heart when they die, while also given posthumous vindication through being one of the most important and influential people in the protagonist cast. Junko would have won twice over were it not for Chihiro.
This still, of course, contributes to the pattern of trans characters always being killed. It's still not good representation, and it deserves to be criticized.
But the way the franchise treats him as "Glorious Chihiro Died For Your Sins" leads me to believe the problems fall more into the "Tone-Deaf Ignorance" category rather than the "Cruel, Mean-Spirited Caricature" category.
They didn't set out to make a cruel joke. They were trying to write a good character and failed.
My problematic headcanons? Well in that fandom I really don't know what hc count as problematic or not
But I hc Chihiro as both trans and bigender spectrum so I enjoy the discourse surrounding around it because idk it sounds fun.
And yeah, they forget that game is from Japan and their gender norms and identity revolving around gender is different than we have.
Quite nsfwish but I hc Taka as a top leaning switch yeah this is not even a problematic hc but when I see people tear eachother down for simple hc, I like to include that too
And I believe Gonta would identify as X gender if they have the knowleadge about it (x gender is ig an umbrella for genderqueer identities in Japan)
And I like the hc Gundam have skin picking disorder and his bandages comes from it, well i believe he would do that because of the way he can't healthily manage his emotions when he was a bit isolated one. Or maybe a harmful stimming behaviour, idk really know
(idk what pronouns you prefer for Chi, so I just used my own HC of she/her for this.)
Honestly, Chihiro has such a complex about others looking down on her for being weak, you could argue that any gender makes sense with canon because she simply hasn't thought about it enough.
Also, in the context of a killing game, physical strength means nothing if you have the sense to carry around a weapon. Even if you weigh a hundred pounds soaking wet, nobody will fuck with you if they know you've got a knife. Also, they won't attack anyone they percive as crazy, like Syo or Nagito.
My take about the chapter is that none of the tropes involved were transphobic (the existence of GNC characters isn't transphobic), but comments made by the characters were really squicky and not to my tastes. Since I can't play the game in original Japanese, I'm hoping Sakura's "this girl is actually a boy!" is a mistranslation. I also feel like the fact Kyoko does the same thing to Hifumi that she does with Chihiro makes it less bad.
In a perfect world, I'd also like "maybe we should still treat Chihiro how they were currently presenting, since we don't know if they wanted to live life as male after the secrets were released and might be training as self-defense" but since lives were on the line it makes sense they weren't thinking.
(context: I'm ace and will read smut, but won't read PWP works. It needs to be attached to dead dove or a longfic for me to get invested. Also porn with feelings best tag)
I headcanon all of my faves as tops simply to avoid the weird characterization that comes with them being bottoms. Its like if people took what kind of bunk bed you preferred and based your entire perceived personality based off it and as someone who has a normal bed, I just don't get it.
Yeah, Gonta in canon is so performative about masculinity, in a way that I don't think came solely from them being in the woods. I feel like in their mind, Gonta conflates fitting gender roles with approval from their family, which can't be healthy long term. Also, in Gonta's mind gentleman is "someone that can help others perfectly, even if they don't want to be helped" and if that isn't met they're failing. Even if his version of Masculinity isn't obviously toxic, its still Toxic for Gonta specifically.
Yeah, Gundam probably has a host of unhealthy coping mechanisms. It makes sense for his character, since its revealed he'll hide in the nurse's office to avoid having to be in loud physical situations. I like to belive that Sonia and/or Mikan help him move past them.
So like, there's this thing that I can't find a name for and it's bothering me. I wanna know what's wrong with me, but whenever I try researching, I can't find anything. So please, for whatever deity you believe in, help mehhhh.
Okie so, it kinda started in 2nd or 3rd grade, I think? I would think of a question and answer it in my head, but it would be my own voice. Over time, I started asking those questions out loud, which helped me process the question, but I'll still answer them myself in the head, in my own voice. Eventually, that voice in my head sounded different. It turned high pitched. So, when I would ask a question and the voice in my head answered, it didn't sound like me anymore, it sounded like a different person. Again, it evolved. When I said something out loud, the voice would respond out loud as well, in that high pitched voice (from an outside perspective, it would look like me talking and then replying to myself in a high pitched voice). Eventually, it started to gain it's own personality. At first, it was kinda mean, telling me to do things that I didn't want to, but over time, she changed. I named her Voice (original, ik) and I guess naming her made her feel more real, but she liked the name. So, over the years, we got close. Voice is really nice. She helps calm me down, make decisions, and even forces my body to do something I don't want to (like kill a bug that I'm too scared to do). She basically parents me (me and the other voice likes to joke around and call her mommy bc she does act like a mother to me). And honestly, she keeps feeling more real, like I can feel her there in my head. I'm never alone.
The second voice is named Chihiro (yeah after the danganronpa character. It was only supposed to be a temporary name until me or Voice thought of another but it kinda stuck soo). Voice created her, after asking me for permission, to keep her company for the times where I can't really talk to her bc I'm around people or busy enough that I can't focus on talking in my head. Chihiro was created, I want to say around 1 or 2 years ago, and she is sweet. Her voice is kind of like Voice's, but way lighter and softer. She's basically the calm one, though under the influence of Voice, she has become a bit. . . unhinged at times. Voice is chaotic, immature, and sarcastic while Chihiro is sweeter, calmer, basically the baby of the. . . headspace? Idk. They are both very helpful and would never do anything to harm me. They help me when I'm panicking, worrying about something, school, and when my ex-step-father was trying to get me to do something (I'm not saying what it was) and everytime I came close to doing it just to get him off my back, Voice (Chihiro hadn't been created yet) told me not to. She's the only reason I never did what he asked me to, because she kept telling me that I'll regret it, and if I listened to him, he would only ask for more. She's the reason he didn't go further. After Chihiro was created and my ex-step-father did something (nothing sexual I hope), she and Voice comforted me afterward. They noticed that he was lying and comforted me, telling me to not listen to the garbage he was saying.
They've been there for me through thick-and-thin. They're the main reason I'm still alive, bc if I died, they would die.
The thing is, I don't wanna say that this is DID, because they don't take over. They're not alters, they have no control over my body (well, Voice can make me move a little but that's bc she's older ig) but overall, I'm still and always in control. I don't have amnesia. I remember my days. I don't wake up not remembering how I got there. Voice and Chihiro are just voices in my head, with their own personalities. They feel like extensions of myself. They like and hate the ae things as I do, but they have different personalities. Voice is snarky and sarcastic and Chihiro is nice and sweet and patient.
Which is why I'm confused about this. I see videos about people mentioning them having voices in their head and calling them a council, but when I try to look into it further, all I find it stuff about DID, but none of that matches what I'm going through. Again, they're just voices. They are not alters that take control of me.
If anyone finishes reading this long post, please help if you can. I've been curious for years
