Prev’s tags are so fucking reeeealllll. So many people turn to luxury to escape life, thinking it’ll heal them. But inside, greed festers, because they’re not feeding themselves in a genuinely nourishing way.
Love love love love love love this scene. It’s so faraway from the brain-frying phone.

i'm just curious bc i'm watching How to Train Your Dragon and i always forget how happy and calm it makes me feel. i mean, i did name my cat after Toothless the dragon. but i also love Lion King, that's my Disney comfort movie. and my Ghibli comfort movie is Spirited Away. watching any of these when i'm in a foul mood or my anxiety is high always helps 🥰 but i watch them just for fun too, not only when i'm in a mood. what about you?

my biggest issue with the httyd live action-and just about any live action reboot is that it seems that the live action adaptations are being made to make the original “better”? like, so many people talk about a live action spiderverse, a live action hercules, a live action PRINCE OF EGYPT (dont piss me OFF.)-like animation is a beautiful work of art, and for some reason putting real people and cgi in it is supposed to be an “upgrade”? im probably being that friend that’s too woke or whatever, but i just think it’s so disrespectful to act like something that takes so much time and effort and energy is immediately considered as lower because it is animated. animation is beautiful, and it is one of the most heartfelt art forms there are, and erasing that for the sake of a cash grab is downright degrading to animation as a medium.

I truly feel like The Boy and The Heron is Miyazaki’s apology letter to his son Goro.
Not in a “your my precious son and I love you so much, here a movie to make you for my failures” kind of way
but in a “I’ve built this incredible empire and legacy that’s given magic to millions of people, and in that time you’ve lived in that same world, and so naturally it’s expected that you’d take it over in my place, but I know that you’ll never succeed me or that you’ll be able to recreate the magic. This magical world will die with me, this company will die with me, and that’s okay. You don’t have to be me.”

Miyazaki’s visual storytelling thrives on a sense of flatness that doesn’t diminish but rather enriches his worlds. By compressing the layers of his compositions—merging the foreground’s details, middle ground’s action, and background’s context—he crafts images that feel like living illustrations. Take the Warawara swarming with dishes in "The Boy and the Heron" or the jubilant feast scene in "Spirited Away" : both are packed with vibrant details, yet the visual plane feels collapsed, like a tableau unfolding all at once. This "flatness" isn't a flaw but a deliberate technique, pulling us into the frame as if we’re unrolling a scroll of visual wonder. It’s not depth that Miyazaki aims for—it’s a sheer density of storytelling in every frame, a reminder that 2D animation’s strength lies in its ability to immerse without imitating.
