Hello friends, and welcome back to Gay✨ has brainrot for her own fanfic. This post is a welcome to the AU guide where I explain what we’re looking at.

Before I say anything else, a PSA. Fuck JKR. LGBT rights are human rights. How did she write the most queer coded characters and then be like “sorry, only Fumbledore is gay. Love him!” Lol nah.

This au is based loosely off the criteria in this post, where the lovely anonymousqualities called into the Tumblr void for someone to take on their idea. I’ve heard their call, they looked over my outline, and I am posting part one today! Woo! The OG prompt was meant to be plotless, kinda crack fic ish, but I don’t know how to quit when I’m ahead so there will be a good deal of lore-building/lore-fixing from the source material.

James and Sirius hang mistletoes at every doorway/entrance, so they have an excuse to kiss Regulus and Remus.

Regulus asks Remus to help him set the table while James and Sirius play with Harry.

As Regulus comes out of the kitchen, Remus runs into him at the entrance

If you will!!! Imagine a moonwater au where pre deserter!Regulus runs into Remus while he’s on his wolf mission trying to dissuade the werewolves from joining Voldemort and it is awkward and it’s messy because neither can trust the other anymore,

but somehow, Regulus lets Remus in on his plan of deserting and destroying the horocruxes, so someone knows of his whereabouts on the night at the cave, and being distrustful Remus follows after him, keeping his distance and watching up until the moment he almost falls into the lake and Remus is there, casting the Inferi away with his Dada knowledge and pulling Regulus out, he’s freezing and coughing up water, but he lives, he calls Remus an idiot, ‘can’t he see he’ll die anyway once the death eaters find out of his treason?’, but Remus isn’t hearing any of it, all he can see when he looks at Regulus is the same scared face from when they were 13 and 14 respectively and he would not dare leave him like this. So he takes him home, and they pretend Regulus is dead, at least until the end of the war.

Remus’ loyalty to Dumbledore almost makes him go and tell him of this, but Regulus threatens him against it. Still, Remus goes on to tell Dumbledore about the horocruxes.

But Regulus being alive, also means he knows who the traitor is, and it is not Sirius, it is Peter. With this information, Remus tries to warn the Potter’s but despite it, James doesn’t believe him. And.. well, worst comes to pass. However, when Sirius is framed for the murder things go differently, pushing very hard and pressing Dumbledore for it, Remus is able to get Sirius a trial, and testify for him. The only problem is, Regulus needs to testify too in order to get Sirius’ charges dropped, but that means having the world know he was alive and a death eater. Remus begs him, pleads, because Sirius is innocent and his best friend and Regulus’ brother! And Regulus is so very guilty, he should’ve died in the cave, he owes Remus, so he testifies. Because of Dumbledore’s connections, both brothers are able to get off for the most part but the house of Black is disgraced. Regulus experiences something so much more humiliating than death, dishonor, disdain from his peers, disowned by his mother who cut hims off for being a blood traitor.

And so, Regulus is destitute. A man broken by the war, but he is alive and free and his brother is too. And he owes a big part of that to Remus. Remus who’s absolutely crushed after the death of two of his closest friends, Remus who’s terrified for the future knowing there’s no future for him as a werewolf, Remus who starts to fall apart now that he has nothing to fight for.

Sirius takes in Harry, as soon as the legal matters settle, and he offers Remus and Regulus to stay with him while they manage to get back on their feet with the money his uncle inherited him, they both are too stubborn to accept and refuse him. But ultimately Regulus is forced to accept, having no where else to go. Remus keeps away, feeling he is too dangerous for little baby Harry, but visiting every few months, to keep an eye on things.

A few years later, Dumbledore offers them both employment at Hogwarts, when they meet again, Remus greets him like an old friend, which Regulus’ supposes they are. Remus hugs him for just a second too long, but Regulus’ doesn’t pull away. Overtime the two grow closer and for once things are different, they are equals with full autonomy, and all that kept them so separated now, is distant, so one night as they’re talking by the fireside at Remus’ teacher dorm, Regulus kisses him, and Remus is surprised but he returns his affections.

Remus continues teaching at Hogwart’s long enough to get to teach lil Harry and his friends and Regulus is able to help Dumbledore track down the horocruxes so much faster, which is a big factor in the war’s outcome and also means Harry gets a bit more time to be a kid.

Things are not easy, but they aren’t bad. Regulus learns that he has the ability to do good, to be good. Remus learns that he’s not hard to love, that he’s worth the effort of being loved. And Sirius makes sure Harry, is loved, he knows it’ll never be enough to give him back everything he has lost, everything they all have lost, but Harry grows up surrounded by love. Of his guardian and his ‘uncles’, and he’s better off for it.

I am so craving a (preferably romantic) Moonwater raising Harry fic though.

Like Regulus survived the cave and he kind of disappeared from society and just researched Horcruxes. His research leads him to 5 year old Harry. (At this point it can be either one of the last ones) He finds him at Privet Drive and well. He sees how he is treated and kind of snatches him. So he has a Horcrux in a living being. He dedicated his life to destroying them and well he just looks at pitiful lil Harry and he can't go through with it. But he has no clue what to do with a 5 year old. And well, that is when he bothers finding out about the events that took place until that point. Including his brother having betrayed(?!) the Potters. Enter Remus. 😁

A guide on how to, and not to read and talk to fanfic writers!! Feel free to add anything

1. Authors word over all else!!!! Individual writers have different wants and preferences with fans interacting with there work. If they ask readers to point out spelling and grammar mistakes then you are more then welcome to! If they specially ask that you don’t ask about new chapters then shut your mouth about it! Always do what the author asks and we can avoid losing fanfic writers

2. Remember that these are people who are doing this for free!!! You are not entitled to anything! If they want to take a year long break from a fic then continue writing like nothing happened then they can do that and you need to be ok with it!!! I know it hurts when your fav wip hasn’t been update in 3 months but I promise you’ll survive!!! But you know what’s not gonna help the author? You yelling at them demanding they spend there own free time doing something that they clearly aren’t in the mood to do!!!

3. You can always click off! One of the great things about fanfic is that it’s free!! Everyone gets to enjoy it! And another great thing about it is that if you don’t like the way a fic is going, simply click off of it and stop reading!! The only thing you’ll lose is maybe a few hours of your time that you spent reading the fic! Don’t like the grammar errors? Click off! Don’t like the ship? Click off!!! Don’t like that 2 characters aren’t together yet? CLICK OFF!!! Do not leave a hateful comment! All you have to do is simply stop reading and find a new fic! If there is anything you don’t like about a fic figure out if you want to keep reading or not in spite of it or if you would rather just stop reading the fic but never, NEVER! (Unless the author asks for it) leave a comment complaining about it. It’s disrespectful and rude

Remember it’s ok to be excited about a fic and want a new chapter to come out but claiming your excitement for a new chapter and demanding a new chapter are 2 very different things that have 2 very different reactions from writers!!

Regulus Black survived the inferi only for the aftereffects of the cursed cave to attack his magic and turn him into a squib.

He lived long enough to see his brother arrested and imprisoned without trial.

He lived long enough for his mother to disown him.

He lived long enough to become an outcast in the world where he grew up.

Regulus had nothing left to live for. Then one day, on a whim, he decided to check on his brother’s godson. And then Regulus had someone to fight for.

So todays fic rec is a bit different in that it is still a wip. HOWEVER the author has already finished the story and is now only betaing (?) their own work. They update at least twice a month.

I just love this fic so much, I've been following it for a good couple of months and it's just... everything I love? Like wow! Regulus is saving and raising Harry in this one while trying to get Sirius a trial so our boy has a lot on his plate.

This fic is for everyone who is looking for some angst but also so much found family fluff. I can not put into words how much I adore this fic.

married, older moonwater in charge of de-aged by a spell Sirius until it wears off, but it never does (he's 12, already best friends with the marauders)

1st part is moonwater pov of them bonding, Regulus mourning that this precious child didn't actually get to exist for long because of their parents, Sirius telling them he loves them and so happy that his two favorite people are there when everything is so different

part 2 is Sirius pov, the spell wore off a few weeks into the new living situation, he's been taking something else and pretending because, is it that wrong to want a family? they're all so happy now! he's been so alone! James is so responsible now, Reg and Rem are always together, working, so alone! He even gets to spend more time with harry now that they're friends!

all angsty and kind of creepy in a somewhat wholesome way, Sirius way to madness from all the wanting. Fic ends with Sirius performing an irreversible spell to stay a child, giving up his adult memories and then goes back to the last wholesome scene of 1st part with moonwater officially adopting Sirius and going to the station with him (3rd year)

2nd war against voldemort but mostly everyone is alive...

Quick general lore:

-james and lily survive but were in a magic induced coma from Regulus' doing. When voldemort got to the manor he thought they were already dead but lily's love still rebounded the killing curse for harry.

-sirius still goes to azkaban but not for 12 years

-regulus raising harry up until hogwarts. Then transitions to moonwater raising harry

-the malfoys become spys for the order through lucius and Narcissa

-"disowned" draco after 5th year (for his safety) he lives with andromeda

-I recently saw a HC that Mary is Dean's mom and I'm in love with it. (Ignoring canon of his mom being just muggle)

-Alice is in better shape than frank and is able to leave st. Mungos. She's selectively mute.

-platonic Narcissa/Alice. Narcissa has been secretly visiting her at the hospital.

So the actual fic idea is slighty plot-less and is mostly oneshots surrounding the lore (so there's not really an end to the story): For safety reasons some of the order have to hide out at grimmauld place for the summer.

For the adults its nothing but TENSION and animosity. They assume the kids will be the same and everyone sits down with their respective teen/teens to explain that they all need to get along

Once everyone settles at grimmauld, to the adults suprise, the teens not liking each other is fake and they all get along (some more than others *cough drarry cough** 😷).

Ron and draco are basically besties

Hermoine and draco love to nerd out together

Pansy and ginny love to gossip with each other

Also Luna is the friend-group's little sister and everyone is protective of her

An order meeting just finished and the adults leave to check on the kids..

Sirius noticing drarry's sitting arrangement: "I beg your pardon!?" Remus follows his gaze and chuckles only to get elbowed.

"I fail to see what's funny, Moony!" Sirius turns to point an accusatory finger at a shock Regulus "this is your fault somehow!"

Regulus throws his hands up in defeat "of course you think it's my fault!" they go back and forth as James walks in.

"What's all- oh" he blinks owlishly at the scene in the living room. Sirius looks away from regulus to James.

"Can you believe this prongs!?" James' face is unreadable as he blinks again. This time he looks over at a blushing regulus who's avoiding eye contact.

James clears his throat "I can actually" his gaze still unwavering in regulus' direction.

Sirius' mouth clicked shut as he took a slow step back. Looking suspiciously from James to regulus and back to james. His jaw dropping in dramatic realization.

"Son oF A BI-"

"Whats all this?" Lily inquires as she takes in the group, absentmindedly stirring her tea. She pauses midway to take a sip as she looks into the living room.

She cooes, tears brimming her eyes as Mary, Narcissa, who has her arm around Alice, trail into the entryway behind her.

"Oh my little hazza" she sniffles leaning her head against Mary's shoulder. Mary hides a smirk into a sip of her own tea. Sharing a knowing look with remus.

Narcissa holds back her own tears "My sweet, Dragon" her hand rests against her chest, subconsciously pulling Alice in closer. Alice hums, resting her head on Narcissa's shoulder. Her face softening as she notices Neville and Blaise's own close proximity. Her usually glazed over eyes coming into focus.

Regulus clears his throat as he exuses himself, speed walking out of the room.

"Regulus? REGULUS" Sirius swats a now laughing Remus in the chest as he runs after his brother.

"Regulus, get back here!"

In the living room, the teens look over at the commotion.

Ron's brows furrow in confusion "what's all that about, now?" He turns back to Dean who shrugs. Everyone else giving the same gesture as they looked around at each other.

Luna hums dreamily from her place on the ground. Leaning her head against ginny's leg as she turns a page of the quibbler "old love can be just as complicated and young love" she concludes.

Silence fell over the group. They gave the grown ups another glance before promptly getting back to their own respective conversations.

They'll deal with that later on in the summer

Platonic moonwater raided Harry. Harry, Regulus, and Remus all know Sirius is innocent, and they are hiding him in the Shrieking Shack till they can prove his innocence.

As for the rumors, Harry loves feeding into them. Given that he was raised by Regulus, he has a bit of the Black family madness. Maybe Harry has three biological parents: James, Lily, and Regulus.

Professor reg would be so funny

Like imagine he takes the position of runes professor in Harry's 3rd year and it's just like

Student 1: hey, do you think it's true that the professor's whole family is crazy?

Student 2: I mean his older brother is on the run from Azkaban and his cousin is insane so...probably

Regulus: Mr Arnold, 10 points from Hufflepuff for not being able to whisper.
