being in a parental position with young children while also balancing school and other responsibilities is kinda crazy as a teenager. like yesterday i did a full day of school and came home to take care of children and put them to bed but i have a project i had to work on and i have college work due at the end of the week but it doesn’t matter because i have tiny humans to turn into kind people. and im typing up my writing with one hand while a five year old clings to my arm to sleep. idk i wish there was mother’s day support for sisters who act as mamas

if u were raised by ur older sister, give her a big hug. it’s a hard job.

Captain’s log: Week 5, Day 6

I realized a bit ago that my days are a little off but I know Week 6 is December 14th.

Mercy has completely outgrown all of her newborn onesies and I’m in disbelief. I think she still fits some of her newborn bottoms but her tops are a little too short now. I started putting her in 0-3 month jammies today and I cried over how well they fit her. I get to begin the process of bagging up the newborn clothes and replacing them with the 0-3 stuff I have on standby. She has a good handful of beautiful dresses in this size and I’m excited.

Mom says that my hair didn’t start curling until I was about six months old. And while I hope Mercy got my fun curls, she definitely has her dad’s hair color and I’m thinking she won’t have my curls. The hair on the back and sides of her head is a bit wavy sometimes, but I don’t want to read too much into it; I’m sure everyone’s hair looks a little foofy when they lay on it when damp.

I’m forever grateful for my mom. When I was pregnant, I was worried she’d be overbearing and that I’d bite her head off. That hasn’t been the case at all, she steps in and helps and offers advice at all the right times and she’s been a blessing. I’d be losing my sanity if I didn’t have her in my corner. She watches kiddo pretty much anytime I need her to, she even watches her for a few hours at night so I can catch up on sleep (it’s impossible for me to nap during the day). I think it really is a good thing that I’m living at home again, I couldn’t imagine doing this in an apartment with my co captain. It would definitely suck, with his cats and overbearing mother and laid back attitude towards everything.

Sometimes I think he tolerates me because he’s worried I’ll shut him out of Mercy’s life. But I’m not a monster. I also think he’s just hoping my weird hormones and lack of interest in anything besides the baby will go away soon. But I think even when I go back to work, she’ll be all I tend to and care about. As much as I miss playing Fallout and sewing patches onto my punk gear, my hobbies can wait. I don’t want to miss a minute of my babies life when I don’t have to.
