Kotobukiya MSG Weapon Unit RW021: Water Arms - A Quickie Review

I recently picked up Kotobukiya’s Water Arms weapon kit while doing some shopping on Amazon. Seeing the style of the water gun in it, I couldn’t resist getting it for my Desk Toys.

Having picked up the MH05 Mega Slash Edge in the past, I know the handles can be a problem. They’re usually just a little too big for basic Bandai hands but it’s a relatively easy fix.

That said... here’s a quick look at the two items in this pack! = )

The Not-A-Super Soaker:

First off... I Love that I was wrong about the clear parts on this kit. They are crystal clear and ready to either be dyed or painted or whatever you do to color your clear plastic parts. = )

The shape is very much reminiscent of the old Larami pressurized Super Soakers or one of the abundant knock offs from the time. The pump handle slides, too, so you don’t have to have it in the resting position all the time. Thanks to the dark gray plastic and the minimal contact points, the nub marks are not too terrible.

A little polish on the clear and a little paint on the body (and yeah... it Really needs paint) and you got a solid little squirt gun. = )

The Weaponized Airbrush:

This is very much as thing that Needs paint.

The airbrush is a cute little thing with plenty of little built-in detail bits on it. Same with the air compressor. Both are just as super simple to build as the Not-A-Super Soaker.

My only minor gripe with it is the somewhat fixed handle is really stuck in close to the very much fixed post for the air hose. It Is “technically” an airbrush so they can’t really move the air hose input but that handle is Tight.

My Verdict:

If I had the chance to get Just the Not-A-Super Soaker, I’d get another set in a heartbeat. Both are really fun goofy pieces that need the lightest of paint to make them pop. Thankfully, I have the stuff for a good Super Soaker 50 paint job.

Now I just need to pick up some of Kotobukyia’s Frame Arms optional hands. I wanted to for a different kit but I Think it may just be needed if I get any of the other Water Arms kits.

They have a couple with proper clear green and yellow squirt guns and water balloons. = )

Yeah a lot of things suck pretty bad for her. Unwittingly in a lavender marriage, mutual dislike between her and her dogshit husband, extremely strained relationship to her former best friend/gay quasi-boyfriend/father of her children who alternates between avoiding her and desperate attempts to make her love him again, having to constantly maintain multiple levels of facade to socially protect their throuple and therefore herself, shy and socially isolated, dealing with trauma that she doesn't even begin to recognize as such because 'nothing bad actually happened', pretty sure something is deeply wrong with her, living under a damocles sword of catastrophic social consequences should her children be exposed as bastards, has discovered an unexpected and mostly unwanted pregnancy while on a months long cross-country trek, etc.

She's also someone who prides herself in being rational, put together, stoic against adversity, and not overly emotional and weak, which basically means all of this is getting suppressed and compartmentalized away like crazy.

She HAS managed to fall into a rhythm with it all and her life IS NOT constant misery and agony. But the situation she's in for the duration of the story completely tears her out of this rhythm and makes all these factors very acute (though also opens her up to new opportunities, new and more positive/differently complex relationships, and much bigger things to worry about than her domestic life).

I wish Survive were a better srpg. Most of the time, you don't really have to think hard about what units to include beyond 1) Including Falcomon, the god and 2) Making sure you have the right attribute (which means you're gonna favor the vaccine types, since most enemies are the virus kind).

If you play in hard and only use the kids mons without grinding (except in that piemon fight lol Guilmon clutch...), the route-specific stretches can be a bit more fun since the kenzoku have elemental weaknesses and actually have killer status effects. Keeping in mind the elemental nature of your units' attacks and the equipment you have did make playing Wrathful more fun for me (and the Moral route does have a handful of non-kenzoku difficult fights due terrain and status effects); yet fighting the master and Plutomon (orz) was way too easy still lol

Anyway, I still wish there was more to think about wrt the partnermon as units; Labramon going from support unit to being mostly offensse-based is a really fun thought (Cerberumon also having strong defense —wherein she will still guard even if you pick an action— due the armor really tickles me). But most of the partnermon are all-rounders, and the way they all got only two moves (the physical one and their signature) plus their passive supports makes the experience very half-baked. Kaito's support is about strengthening physical damage, and he's our resident brawler, so it'd be fun if Dracumon and evos reflected this with having more physical attacks and a bit more mobility (but less than Falcomon). Funnily enough, the one partnermon with broken physical attacks is actually Plutomon LMAO To begin with, she has a three-tile range in any direction with it. But if you deploy her alongside Mugendramon, whose passive extends physical attack range, then you get a 4-tile range LOL I wish these kinda combinations were relevant when playing.

ramblings on Li Ming (and Heart) and homosexuality

moonlight chicken has so many things to offer in terms of technical beauty and interesting themes but what i cannot stop thinking about is the different ways they approach homosexuality in the story.

we have Wen who has a rainbow flag on his desk and pictures of him and Alan on the wall. Wen, who openly flirts with Jim and has no qualms talking openly about his one night stand. Wen, whose step father knows about his sexuality and is close enough with him to discuss his love life.

Kaipa we don’t know too much about. But his mom knows and is supportive and some of the vendors and the chicken family seem to know. But if anyone was questioning in what reality this show is set with all the class discussion and corona featuring, his part of the story shows that homophobia exists and he is worried about how he fits in with his own family, the expectations of his mother and possible the awareness that he makes the family he has “different”.

Jim is arguably even more visibly gay than Wen in terms of what we see throughout the show. He opened the shop with his ex, they prayed at the temple together and even though he objected due to proprities sake eventually they loudly declared their love to each other and the whole neighbourhood knows. Wen somehow feels like he is living in the remnants of a bubble: his circle of friends seems very queer, his closest friend and the whole gym seem to be all part of that as well. This only might change now with him questioning his work and breaking up with Alan: some gatherings he won’t attend anymore apparently.

And finally, we have Li Ming. At school he doesn’t seem to open up to his classmates on most things and additionally is in the closet. While there wasn’t anything alluding to homophobic rethoric being spread at school we can see how the heteronormativity gets to him and feel that there must be good reason as to why no one knows. And it could just be how Li Ming is judging the situation based on vibes, we don’t know. His mother is or at least was homophobic but at the same time he is raised by his gay uncle who is surrounded by other gay people. And I love how it feels like this might have given him enough security to be comfortable with his own sexuality but how it also isn’t enough to shield him from the world at large.

With so many great shows coming out of Thailand and most of them getting more and more political it just feels so real and 2023 to me that Li Ming is part of a generation that knows who they are but still have to battle with the shadow that homophobia has cast way before they were born.
