Yeah a lot of things suck pretty bad for her. Unwittingly in a lavender marriage, mutual dislike between her and her dogshit husband, extremely strained relationship to her former best friend/gay quasi-boyfriend/father of her children who alternates between avoiding her and desperate attempts to make her love him again, having to constantly maintain multiple levels of facade to socially protect their throuple and therefore herself, shy and socially isolated, dealing with trauma that she doesn't even begin to recognize as such because 'nothing bad actually happened', pretty sure something is deeply wrong with her, living under a damocles sword of catastrophic social consequences should her children be exposed as bastards, has discovered an unexpected and mostly unwanted pregnancy while on a months long cross-country trek, etc.

She's also someone who prides herself in being rational, put together, stoic against adversity, and not overly emotional and weak, which basically means all of this is getting suppressed and compartmentalized away like crazy.

She HAS managed to fall into a rhythm with it all and her life IS NOT constant misery and agony. But the situation she's in for the duration of the story completely tears her out of this rhythm and makes all these factors very acute (though also opens her up to new opportunities, new and more positive/differently complex relationships, and much bigger things to worry about than her domestic life).

WIP Wednesday-!!!

Today brings a drawing WIP after I posted a little bit of writing yesterday! Tagged by @hircines-hunter and @skyrim-forever and @moriche and @sylvienerevarine !

I've been working on a family portrait for Balgruuf and Elyse with all four of their children! Of course, by the time that these two have their daugher Aina, Frothar, Dagny, and Nelkir are, or are nearly, adults. So if I wanted to draw all of them, including Aina, I needed to age up those three! And I'm very happy with how these aged up designs have turned out! Plus, this was an excuse to use my design for older Elyse.

It's probably not the most visible, but I've labelled everyone, and from left to right, it's Frothar, Dagny, Balgruuf, Aina, Elyse, and Nelkir!

The way we went from 8 episodes slow butn to "it was the first time I went to his room so I have to be respectful" in episode 9 to Thame putting all his stuff in Pos home and basically moving right in days later after their first kiss ... also in episode 9 / 10 😂 love that for them.

Curious that in the wake of Süleiman's first campaign, both Hürrem and Hatice are scared of forever losing the people they've come to love and have latched onto in order to keep going and find new meaning for themselves after their seemingly dealbreaking past and recent losses, all the while Hafsa reveals her intention to marry both of them off all in the same episode, thus reinforcing the alienation they would feel in Süleiman and Ibrahim's absences and threatening to fully cement it, cutting them off from their actual loves and bringing misery to them both.

Modern AU:

When Bela started going to university there was the inevitable question: “why here and not Cambridge or Harvard?”

Many excuses were used to answer the question, but the real answer is Alcina looking at her daughter (this is only done with close family like only Miranda and the other Lords) and saying “She couldn’t handle living on an hour and a half away campus, why do you think she can handle living abroad on her own?”

Because Bela tried. She even has a huge apartment near campus to stay in. She did move there, actually. But on the first night, she drove back to the castle because she felt very homesick and couldn’t possibly spend the night there.

Alcina is a no-pressure mom and also very indulging so she didn’t try to force Bela to tough it out and stay at the apartment. Because she was also having a hard time accepting that one of her babies was old enough to live on her own.

So if Bela feels better staying at home, then she stays at home.

Bela only stayed at the apartment during midterms and finals because she needed the extra time to study and be close to campus (during those times Cass would go with her because wants to keep her sister company and also have access to the university library and all the extra resources that she can use to excel even further in high school). But other than that Bela stayed at the castle and the driver would drive to and back from university every day.

But honestly i do understand why its a hot button issue and why someone would knee-jerk react like that, its just. Such a basic part of growing up. I wasn’t even referring to teenagers!! Everyone knows teenagers are Like That they grow out of it, its fine (<- doesnt have teenagers, cried in the bathroom the first time her kid called her mean). I was fully referring to grown ass adults with taxes and jobs and college classes.

the king of concordia greatly enjoys his conversations (real and Ahem) with the milk maid and at some point offers her a higher position—maybe even offers to marry him since the council is bitching at him about finding a queen. but she refuses, for no other reason than she likes her job as a milk maiden. it’s mundane enough to keep her humble but so much so that her mind can buzz with activity best done while still using her hands. plus the stressful politics of being queen? yikes.

so the king gets her all the things he hears her worry about. better stables for the cows better quality hay, larger pastures for them to graze, sheep when she expresses interest, a dog. a new dress. he just showers her with “mundane” gifts and it’s probably the closest to in love he’s ever been until he gets entangled with the rest of his lovers

I've seen some people mention this briefly but can I just say I hate the trend of giving Mabel a new love interest every season?? Its so fucking bland and especially worse knowing that they've cycled through two PERFECT developable love interests for her (Oscar and Theo). It just...reeks of some kind of sexualization for lack of a better word I suppose. Its an easy way to get people talking, an easy person for the audience to suspect, etc. I just HATE it. Oscar was there to be a boy toy, Alice was there for woke points, Tobert is there for the sake of giving Mabel someone to kiss. Its OLD and LAZY.

had a cool call with my mom today in which she told me she had calculated how much longer she would probably live, multiplied it by how many times she typically sees me per year, and come up with the number of times we would see each other again before she dies!
