MingXian Fest 2024 Official Post

Hey everyone! MingXian Fest has now officially begun! The focus of this event is our local rairpair Nie Mingjue X Wei Wuxian where Nie Mingjue and Wei Wuxian are/were romantically involved. There is no restriction around canons (adaptations or original novel), settings, or timelines (whether modern or jianghu) The only requirement is that works must be centred around MingXian- whether they are in an established relationship, currently getting together, were friends with benefits, or are heartbroken exes unable to let go. You are free to have them in whichever situationship you'd like :D The minimum word count for this event is 1,000 words. You can also combine as many prompts as you want, the art prompts can be used for writing and vice versa. Please remember to tag your posts with "#MingXian Fest 2024" for ease of filtering.

thoughts on Nie Mingjue/Wei Wuxian?

It’s a ship i rather enjoy quite a bit, however it’s defintely what you would call a rare pair.

Mingjue is the protective older brother type with strong morals who will do anything to correct an injustice - especially if that injustice is done to someone he cares for. He’d raze the world if it meant protecting his loved ones.

Wei wuxian, on the other hand, thrives when being taken care of. He’s independent, sure, and he can take care of himself, defintely, but he seems to be at his happiness when someone takes the reins a little bit and allows him to have the space to be the vulnerable one.

I like mingxian because of that protective dynamic. Additionally, they’re quite similar. Lots of the stuff i mentioned is shared. wwx would also, as we see with the wens, go to great lengths to protect those who need protecting. All in all, wwx adds a shade of grey to nmj’s black and white thinking, and nmj adds a security and loyalty to wwx that he doesn’t always recieve.

On a slightly related note, i also enjoy non-romantic mingjue and wuxian relationships. Canon divergence fics where wuxian is adopted into the nie clan instead of the jiang originally, for example, or ones where mingjue takes wuxian under his wing in other circumstances. I think wy benefits from a reliable, nurturing presence at his side.

I was ""arguing""" with my mom about the amount of coffee she leaves in the coffee maker in the morning, and some might say "berry make your own coffee". Coffee is a matter of principle !!! Then as we always say in Italy "mother's coffee is always the best"

My mother replies to me "ok I won't fight with you over coffee, otherwise you'll ask me for a divorce as a daughter"

Wei Wuxian and fancy do’s do not go together. He’s bored out of his mind and he lost his jacket about a half hour ago. He’s currently idly contemplating how to prank the handful of Lan professors in the corner. He’s only there because Nie Mingjue needed a plus one to his little brother’s gala, and despite the fact neither want to be there they’ve still taken advantage of the open bar. Unfortunately, Wei Wuxian should have remembered Nie Huaisang’s penchant for exotic alcohol back at university. He really should have. But it’s worth it for the look on Nie Mingjue’s face.

A sputtering cough and Nie Mingjue glowering down at his glass as if it’s betrayed him. “What is this swill?”

His only answer is an inarticulate cackle.

When Jiang Wanyin staggers into the Unclean Realm, NIe MIngjue looks for his mate, but does not see him. When he finds out Wei Wuxian was thrown into Burial Mounds he loses his mind. Wei Wuxian is the only one who can bring him back to himself to hopefully win the war.

He recognised the head disciple, the man paused, his hair ruffling under the wind, silver eyes glittering in mirth, laughter reverberating like tinkling of bells.
