Mental health is important, regardless of age. Everyone struggles in their own ways, even if they don't look like it physically. So to anyone who is in a management position, I have a piece of advice; because you never know what can trigger an underling or even another member of management. Try to be careful about careless phrases thrown around. You never know who you're hurting because like me, they may not feel comfortable saying something about their mental health in the workplace.

Hello! Long time no post, I’ve been a busy bee! Just thought since I’ve been really busy at work I can give advice on anxiety in the workplace from my experience.
To reiterate I have severe GAD (Generalised Anxiety Disorder), the thought of going into the workplace was really daunting to me everyday but I figured out some ways to help.
I want to preface this my saying I know that I am in a very privileged position to have a full-time office job with understanding staff at work.
Tips and Tricks at Work:
Speak to your Manager!
- This is the first thing I’ve done in every workplace, not everyone might be comfortable with this but this is what worked for me. I disclose that I have GAD and what accommodations I might need at work.
- Also LEGALLY you cannot be discriminated at work for anxiety it is the actual law
Earplugs at work! (or earphones)
- This is brilliant for when I’m overstimulated at work! I use the loop earplugs and have explained that I can hear everyone around me still I just need a break from general office noise that might be a bit too much for my brain.
- I use earphones for when I’m overstimulated/ anxious at work and I need to be left alone until I am better. (I know its wild I’m allowed to do this). It serves as a heads up to everyone that I am not feeling well and need some time.
Ask your manager if there’s a safe place!
- This is very important for grounding and actually staying at work. I have found that having access to a place to have an anxiety attack at work makes it less daunting if I do have one if that makes sense? I also feel uncomfortable having an anxiety attack in front of others and I wont get better, so having a designated space even if I don’t use it is an absolute must!
- Also, I want to say it is okay to take 5 minutes when you need, it can make such a big difference!
A little fan!
- This is personal to me a guess, but when I have an anxiety attack I get very hot and this is very uncomfortable and makes the nausea much worse. I always have a handheld fan in my bag that I bring everywhere and I also have a desk fan at work.
- Helps to cool you down and also I find the air blowing at my face is something to focus on whilst I’m having one
If you can pick shift times, do!!
- This is for when I worked part-time in retail, I found this very overwhelming and overstimulating but one thing that helped was to pick my shifts based on the time is would be most quiet in the shop or early enough to do some work in the back, this really helped through the struggle.
These are just a few tips that make a really big difference to me and my ability to work and also do well at work! I am really grateful for my privileged position, I just wanted to give some tips out in case this might help anyone else!

Listen, you should never film strangers in public without their consent, but I swear there need to be fines or something for people who do that shit in some spaces. For example: I had to go to the ER last night, and some jerk filmed a woman who just came in and was clearly having an asthma attack. She immediately got to go back, and he was unhappy about that. Believe me, I get that it sucks having to wait when you're in pain, but you don't get to pick who deserves care when. The medical system in the US is a nightmare, and the ER could be the worst moment of someone's life. No one deserves to be recorded because some jack ass believes someone doesn't look like they need care.
This is fine to reblog. People who film strangers should be shamed if nothing else.
#ccyy talks#sorry for posting this here but I'm pissed and this shit really needs to stop#For all I know he recorded me too cause I'm young and look healthy but got to go back next#Sorry about your cough buddy but the way things work I was a more immediate emergency#1k#5k#10k#30k#this post clearly has a life of its own now#and in case someone wants to know some clarifications for common points#people in a position of authority/actively hurting someone with the intent to protect/help the person is fine#so cops doctors nurses mental health workers and educators (to name a few) who actively are abusing their power and authority? free game#this post was filming random ass people for Content(tm)#random ass people more so those in distress aren't your content and you do not know the harm you can do to someone by posting that shit#50k
