Self care
Self care doesn’t look the same for everyone. When you’re sat in your depression room surrounded by dirty plates, unwashed clothes and you don’t remember the last time your bedsheets were washed. I think it can be difficult to look online and see self care as this 9-step skincare routine, super organised gym sessions and intense journaling or meditation. Don’t get me wrong this might work for some people, but I have been at points in my life where that kind of self care is just simply unattainable.
I want to share that self care is personalised to you, not who you see online. Sometimes self care could be just taking a breath, just giving yourself a minute. Self care can literally just be going to sleep, changing clothes or for me especially just actually letting myself have an anxiety attack rather than trying to keep up appearances.
It is okay to not be well, its alright to not be at the same as what we see on the internet. The important thing is to try, giving yourself a second just breathe is enough. Whatever you are doing to help yourself right now is enough and it doesn’t have to look like it could be posted on tiktok for views.
Self care isn’t always fun, it isn’t the romanticised version we see on social media, it can feel awful like you’re at the end of your tether and that’s okay. Self care isn’t always pretty. It can be washing that mouldy pot with some sort of indiscernible food (I have been there too many times, thank god for masks). It’s just important that you’re trying, or you have that little bit of hope spurring you on, self care can just be still being here.
It’s okay, you’re doing well, you’re here and that’s enough.

and then preceding to buy everything for this one hobby to be hyper fixated for two weeks, then leaving it forever in the hobby ether

Hello! Long time no post, I’ve been a busy bee! Just thought since I’ve been really busy at work I can give advice on anxiety in the workplace from my experience.
To reiterate I have severe GAD (Generalised Anxiety Disorder), the thought of going into the workplace was really daunting to me everyday but I figured out some ways to help.
I want to preface this my saying I know that I am in a very privileged position to have a full-time office job with understanding staff at work.
Tips and Tricks at Work:
Speak to your Manager!
- This is the first thing I’ve done in every workplace, not everyone might be comfortable with this but this is what worked for me. I disclose that I have GAD and what accommodations I might need at work.
- Also LEGALLY you cannot be discriminated at work for anxiety it is the actual law
Earplugs at work! (or earphones)
- This is brilliant for when I’m overstimulated at work! I use the loop earplugs and have explained that I can hear everyone around me still I just need a break from general office noise that might be a bit too much for my brain.
- I use earphones for when I’m overstimulated/ anxious at work and I need to be left alone until I am better. (I know its wild I’m allowed to do this). It serves as a heads up to everyone that I am not feeling well and need some time.
Ask your manager if there’s a safe place!
- This is very important for grounding and actually staying at work. I have found that having access to a place to have an anxiety attack at work makes it less daunting if I do have one if that makes sense? I also feel uncomfortable having an anxiety attack in front of others and I wont get better, so having a designated space even if I don’t use it is an absolute must!
- Also, I want to say it is okay to take 5 minutes when you need, it can make such a big difference!
A little fan!
- This is personal to me a guess, but when I have an anxiety attack I get very hot and this is very uncomfortable and makes the nausea much worse. I always have a handheld fan in my bag that I bring everywhere and I also have a desk fan at work.
- Helps to cool you down and also I find the air blowing at my face is something to focus on whilst I’m having one
If you can pick shift times, do!!
- This is for when I worked part-time in retail, I found this very overwhelming and overstimulating but one thing that helped was to pick my shifts based on the time is would be most quiet in the shop or early enough to do some work in the back, this really helped through the struggle.
These are just a few tips that make a really big difference to me and my ability to work and also do well at work! I am really grateful for my privileged position, I just wanted to give some tips out in case this might help anyone else!

THIS !! I booked a holiday last month with my partner and this was my first real holiday and I wanted to pack everything I possibly could into 4 days to “get as much out of it as I could”. I loved the holiday but it wasn’t a relaxing time from work it was taxing. Both my partner and I were exhausted from the holiday and felt like we needed almost a holiday at home to be ready for work again!
I learned that just spending time literally anywhere (doesn’t have to be a fancy holiday destination) just to free up some headspace and wind down from the 9-5 is still a holiday, and perhaps a much kinder one for our brains.
Vacation
Vacation isn't trying to shove, so many things into a small period of time until you get overwhelmed and exhausted. That's not a vacation. That's just taking what you're trying to get a vacation from and bringing it there with you.

Hey! I’m Aru!!
This is my first blog post, and I guess I’lol share why I’ve decided to blog!
Basically, I have a severe generalised anxiety disorder, I was diagnosed back in early 2020 but I have suffered my whole life. I would scour the internet for tips and tricks that weren’t just breathing exercises. Yes breathing is important but when the anxiety is THAT debilitating its hard to think about breathing. I never really found anything on the internet that was right for me, something that fit into my life? Something that helped me get out of bed.
I have had lots of therapy and tried and tested so many different tricks to keep anxiety at bay. I think from experience I am knowledgeable about anxiety, obviously I know everyone is different but I wanted to make this blog to share what works for me. Hopefully this might find someone who was in the same position I was a few years ago and helps them.
Also I am by no means perfect I still have anxiety, I still struggle with anxiety everyday so maybe this could turn into a little space for people to share their experiences and tips too!!
I added this photo because…
1) its cute and fits the aesthetic and
2) to tackle your anxiety and get a hold of it is kind of like magic, so have some witchy cats.
