1/11/25.
Soft Shoulder must be one of Tempe, Arizona's most known bands. We first posted about them in 2015, and they released new material as recently as 2023. Their Discogs page (their profile states, "No-Wave / Junk-Kraut from thee Sonoran Desert with satellite members in Oakland, Montreal, Berlin, etc.") boasts 33 releases. That said, this band is still decidedly under the radar. There is no entry at all on AllMusic. I did find several references to the band on Maximum Rock N Roll.
Our initial post mentioned both Eddy Current Suppresion Ring and Diat. There is a lot of noise here - but I would say this is closer to The Fall, Spray Paint and Blank Realm. These songs are short though. I was surprised how quickly each side of the LP ended.
Soft Shoulder serve as the vehicle for some of the music of James Fella. This is released on Gilgongo Records (which I think was started by Fella).

@gebtoons YES EXACTLY like perhaps this attitude is related to how the people owning the label that put out fall out boy early on and writing The be-all-end-all in-depth feature article on fall out boy's early history wrote about feminists with unbelievably misogynistic and hateful terminology like "lard cunts" . and people in bandom are able to recognize the positive elements of the bands and movements these people were in and handle them existing in history without getting upset . but also send you anon hate telling you to delete pictures of kathleen hanna or start arguments and make callout posts if you breathe the phrase "riot grrrl" without apologizing or criticize hardcore for misogyny in any capacity lol
#also im not really familiar with the name in the above paragraph#but according to reddit he was fired from maximum rock n roll#for writing a column critiquing feminism wanting more women in STEM and wanting equal pay lol#lord

Eimear Quinn - The Voice 1996
This was the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 1996, representing Ireland. It was created by Brendan Graham, who had also written and composed "Rock 'n' Roll Kids", the Irish winner from the 1994 contest. The victory was Ireland's seventh contest victory, setting a record for the most contests won by a single country that would only be tied by Sweden in 2023.
Brendan Graham had originally submitted "The Voice" for consideration to represent Ireland in Eurovision via a recording made with another performer. However, after "The Voice" had been advanced to the final for the Irish national round, Graham attended a performance by the Anúna chorale at Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin, where he was struck by the voice of Eimear Quinn. Graham recruited her to perform "The Voice" on the final of the National Song Contest. At Eurovision, "The Voice" was awarded the maximum douze points by seven countries.
Lyrically, "The Voice" is a very Celtic-inspired song, with the singer portraying herself as "the voice" which watches over the world, describing "her" effects on the elements, such as the wind, the seasons, in a similar way to Mother Nature. It is of a folk style and is sung at a very high pitch. Quinn was accompanied by traditional Irish percussion, woodwind and string instruments.
It received a total of 65,2% yes votes!

rocket says take a fuckin' study break ✩࿐࿔
in honor of it being finals season for many of you, i'm resharing the take a fuckin' study break drabble/minific from ✩࿐࿔ take what you need here, in full. ao3 version here.

fluff | gn reader | no use of y/n | drabbles | word count: 1,020.
“Ow!” you yelp, rocking back on your stool and scrubbing a hand at your forehead. Did you just flick me?”
“I been talking at you for like two minutes,” Rocket grouses. “It’s like talking to a frickin’ wall.”
You glower. “I told you. I’m studying. And writing. And studying. Leave me alone.”
“Yeah, yeah,” he jeers. “Terran finals. Whatever. Sounds like a waste of time. Haven’t the humies on that backward mudball realized yet that tests don’t actually measure learning? It’s like using a yardstick to measure time.”
You sigh and lean back. “Yeah, they know. Doesn’t matter though. If I want to pass these classes and get this stupid degree, I need to–” You scrub at your forehead again and sigh. “You know what? Never mind. I cannot have you un-motivating me right now. What did you want?”
He leaps neatly onto the stool across from you and sets two glass bottles on the tabletop, then leans his forearms on the little table between you, smirking smugly. “To pay you back, cupcake.” The mockery in his voice does not bode well for you. “Remember what you told me last week when Adam was whining about how I was making him study the Bowie’s schematics for too many hours?”
You feel your stomach drop. “No,” you lie, big-eyed.
His smirk only grows. “Lemme refresh your terrible frickin’ memory, then.” Now his teeth are sharp and he heightens his voice into a whiny falsetto. “But Rocket. Maximum productivity is only five-to-seven hours a day. You can overload the crappy baldbody brain if you go longer than that–”
“Pretty sure I did not say ‘crappy baldbody brain,’” you interject dryly.
“–and he could lose everything you’ve taught him already. Plus, he needs fifteen-to-twenty minute breaks every fifty-to-ninety minutes.”
You stare at him flatly, unwilling to dignify his bad mimicry with a response. Unfortunately, he doesn’t seem to care. He’s snickering openly at this point.
“Time to take your fuckin’ break,” he tells you. “It’s for your own damn good.”
You feel your brain fluttering in your skull like a trapped bird, and your heart is already starting to pick up the pace too. “Rocket,” you plead, all that old academic anxiety spiking high. “Unlike Adam, I’m actually on a time table. I need to finish all this by–”
“And if what you told me was true, I’m not gonna let you overdo it and lose it,” he tells you, his voice dropping for just a moment into something serious and intent. “Now get up. You’ve been at this for at least an hour-and-a-half.”
You hesitate, staring reluctantly at your laptop screen.
“Do I gotta give you a direct order, kid?”
You glower at him and drag yourself off the barstool. He turns sideways on his own, leaning against the table lazily and taking a mouthful of his ale. “Five deep breaths,” he orders lazily. “Your eyes aren’t laser cannons, and your angry looks aren’t gonna shut me up, cupcake.”
“God, I hate you,” you tell him, and then close your eyes and plant your feet and take your five stupid deep breaths.
“Roll your shoulders. Three times in each direction.”
You start and he cuts you off with a barked, “Slower. Start over.”
You scowl at him and do it.
“Touch your toes.”
“Geezus, I hate you,” you repeat. He just raises a brow and waits till you follow his instructions.
When you rise back up, he’s nudging the second glass bottle in your direction. “Drink half a’ that.”
You glare but lift it to your mouth anyway. It’s just water – but it’s the perfect temperature, and you suddenly realize you haven’t had anything but caffeine all day, and even that had been hours ago. You end up drinking more than half, easily.
Rocket sighs and shakes his head when you put it down. “Okay, ready for your next mission?”
“Rocket, I don’t have time–”
“It’ll take less time if you shut up and do what I frickin’ say.”
“You are the worst.”
He grins and his tail flicks. “So I’ve been told,” he concedes with mock humility, like you’ve just given him a compliment. He raises a clawed finger. “You need some fresh air, and you need to eat. You’re gonna go down to that street food stall in the Zygomatic Arch and get yourself a roasted yaro root wrap. Then you’re gonna come back and Kraglin’s gonna meet you across the street from here with a data pad. As long as you’re eating that wrap, he’s gonna let you scroll through those Terran holovid transmissions–”
“It’s goddamn Tiktok, Rocket.”
“–for exactly five minutes. No more an’ no less. And then you’re gonna come back in here and drink the rest of your water and I’ll leave you alone.” His grin widens. “At least for the next ninety minutes.”
You stare at him witheringly. “I hate you.”
“You keep saying that, cupcake, but I don’t think it’s true.”
You sigh, and feel your shoulders drop in defeat, and you head toward the open tambour door that leads into the streets. It’ll be nice, you grudgingly suppose: to breathe some fresh air and get some of the artificial Knowhere sunlight on your skin. To stretch your legs out and grab a snack and see some people, even if just in passing.
And it’s good that Kraglin’s gonna be in charge of the datapad because he’s such a fucking simp for his captain that he’s not gonna let you go over the five minutes Rocket has rationed for you on Tiktok.
“Kid.”
You pause in your steps and glance back over your shoulder at Rocket. His smirk is just a little softer, and you abruptly remember that this jackass actually cares about you – like, really cares about you. He just tries to hide it under layers of being fucking annoying.
“You’re gonna win your finals.”
You blink, and a laugh startles its way out of your chest, softly puffing out of your mouth. “That’s not–” you start to say, and then you laugh again and shrug. “Sure will,” you tell him affectionately. “For you, Captain. Thanks.”
please remember to take 15-20 minute breaks every 50-90 minutes! (set alarms on your phone to help.) use that time to open your window or go for a walk (even if it's cold). take some deep breaths. stretch. drink water. unclench your jaw. talk to someone who won't let you stay distracted for too long. and grab something to eat (even if it's just a granola bar). brains don't retain jackshit without sleep, nutrients, and moments of rest.
you got this. you're gonna win your finals.
check the ✩࿐࿔ take what you need masterlist for more self-care reminders, including eat somethin, drink some goddamn water, and go to frickin bed already (yeah that means you).

Every Record I Own - Day 824: Shellac At Action Park
I'm still wrapping my head around the news that Steve Albini is no longer with us.
I first heard Big Black on a mixtape my friend made me back in 1992. The song was "Jordan Minnesota." It was mean and ferocious and sounded like nothing else I'd heard before. I went out and bought the Hammer Party CD that compiled their earliest EPs soon after. It was a tough listen, but as was so often the case in those pre-internet / teenage years of the early '90s, if you plunked down your allowance money on a CD of "difficult" music, you didn't give up on it after a cursory listen. I stuck with it until those "difficult" songs eventually became anthems of teenage alienation.
There was another interesting angle to the Hammer Party CD: there were extensive liner notes that outlined the band's operating strategy. They were a DIY band uninterested in the music business. They were principled. They were nerdy, unassuming looking people. But the music they made was scarier than any metal band.
Big Black songs were almost always written from the villain's perspective. They were unvarnished narratives about unsavory characters. "Jordan Minnesota" was about a child molester. "Seth" is about a racist. "Columbian Necktie" is about a drug cartel hitman.
Terms like "incel" and "edgelord" didn't exist back then. But there was definitely a streak of impotent male rage and deliberate controversy in Big Black's music. In recent years, Steve Albini made a point of acknowledging those attributes in his music and apologizing for his role in elevating a culture of targeted mean-spiritedness. I think it was a noble gesture on his part, though I thought it was always fairly obvious that Big Black wasn't glorifying the behavior of the characters in their songs. It was about making art that acknowledged the awful side of humanity. Rather than sweeping the ugliness under the rug, Big Black dragged the creeps into the spotlight and shouted "look at these fucking assholes."
If Big Black defined high school, Shellac helped define my college years. The lyrical subject matter was less antagonistic, but the music seemed colder. It was sparse. Austere. Deliberately scaled back to the point of seeming mechanical. The bombast of Big Black was replaced by the tension of Shellac. At this point, you knew what Albini was capable of, but now he was the poker player who was keeping a straight face and playing his cards cautiously.
By the time At Action Park came out, Albini was a person of note outside of his bands. I remember reading his article in Maximum Rock N Roll on major labels and how the promise of riches really just meant other people in the music industry taking a slice of the artist's budget and eliminating any chance of future royalties. His engineering credentials were already legendary, and his recording philosophy played a major role in shaping my own attitude towards making records.
Russian Circles have recorded at Albini's studio half a dozen times at this point. And while we've never worked with Albini at the board, he was often lingering around the building, working on sessions in the other studio or puttering around working on things. He was exactly like you'd expect him to be. Smart. Opinionated. Quick with a sharp reply.
He was by no means infallible. His assessment of Liz Phair's Exile in Guyville back in 1993 was pretty gross. He's made a point of vocalizing his regret over naming a band Rapeman. But considering that he's been a firebrand for over 40 years, I'd say Albini did a fairly good job of ruffling feathers while sticking up for the downtrodden. He was a man of artistic ideals and principles who managed to stick to his guns while shaping the industry around him. He was an artist who was able to develop and evolve his sound over the course of several decades while also retaining the initial vision and spark in his work. He was impervious to fads yet somehow always relevant.
RIP Steve. You were one of a kind.

Emo RD Rambles 3: Patient Playlist
Welcome back to Emo Cannot Write For Shit So You All Get His Rambles. With an additional thing at the end winkwink. This is really really long so let's get cracking.
Today's concept: Ian and Ada approach the idea of creating a Patient Radio - a playlist made of the long term patient's favourites songs to 'maximise comfort'.
As a beta for the Radio, they leave a sheet of paper in the connecting hallway for patients to list suggestions of their preferred music, around three or four songs maximum. Some already have ideas in mind, while others struggle.
This is just a silly idea I had when wondering what type of music the main RD cast listens to; excluding the songs they're actually involved in. This also created some funny writing prompts that I may use for a small comedic anthology. For example:
Hailey is the first person to write anything down: and she's pretty basic (sorry). Her style is very mainstream, involving those pop songs you'd hear on the radio. From there, a few folks follow, with varying genres and tastes. The next day, however, more folks have added some ideas, including Logan. You can tell Logan has visited - because there is now a messy heart drawn next to Hailey's suggestions.
Also, Logan suggests similar stuff to Hailey, with the addition of maybe an anime opening or two.
Cole... suggests his own music. For the sake of both his ego, and the declining state of the patients, he's given a stern 'no'. Of course, it's Cole, so he angrily scribbles out his suggestions and leaves the paper be. He's surprised when 'Unreachable' comes on via the Patient Radio - and, sure enough, someone's written it down past his scribbling. More specifically, Samurai. He even signed it! (By that, I mean the writing is just "Unreachable- Cole Brew (SAMURAI)". All of Samurai's suggestions are signed this way.)
Insomniac writes down only one suggestion: a traditional Japanese folk song (or 'hōgaku'). This would be fine - if he wrote the song's title in Romaji. Instead, the song is written in pure, specific kanji characters.
Ada returns to Ian come the night with a new version of the paper: "Hey, so, uh- I got the paper back today and there's some new stuff from the swordsmen. Any idea what this is?" Ian turns, "Hah?" before seeing the kanji. There's a slight pause before he just casually goes, "Oh! This is (insert Japanese title here)! That's easy, I'll type it up." Ada learns that Ian learnt how to read kanji entirely just for the songs he listens to that are in Japanese.
Oh yeah: the moment this song plays on the radio, the Insomniac falls asleep. Hell, he sleeps like a baby. Unfortunately, they can't play it on loop, but now they know he appreciates a lil' lullaby.
Speaking of Ian and Ada, they decide to add some of their own songs to the mix (Ian mostly - he felt it was a little unfair that the patients get to listen to banger tunes). Ian adds quite a variety, but we cannot ignore the fact he adds maybe one or two vocaloid songs.
Ada, unfortunately, is a little embarrassed of her status as a former theatre kid, still musical lover. She, instead, uses a few common songs from the radio to add to the list. Ian convinces her, after a little while, to add a really popular song from her favourite musical. I do not know what musical this is.
There's a surprising amount of patients that add jazz to the radio, or at least music from the 1950 to 1980's era. For one, the Stevensons' accidentally add the same song to the list twice, given Mr. Stevenson can't read his wife's handwriting that well anymore (I'll elaborate on why later). This also just so happens to be a song that played in their wedding. They have a ball dancing to it.
Additionally, the Miner also includes a bit of Rock 'n' Roll or otherwise jazz into his suggestions. They're very old for the 30-something nut, but it adds up. He also, thanks to Cole, includes a little chiptune.
Hugh somehow adds the tutorial theme. You know, the tutorial song from Rhythm Doctor. Nobody recognises the title, or the artist, but everyone in the ward has a mutual moment of "I swear I've heard this before". Hugh doesn't comment.
There's a slight cultural shift once Insomniac includes his traditional tune. It's not the only Non-English hit, and Ian/Logan do add a couple of Japanese songs to the pile.
In Nicole's case, she ends up not sure what to suggest, but still wanting to take part. So, she ends up adding a Chinese pop song, quote: "I don't know any Chinese myself, but my mom would put this on a lot, and I didn't have anything else that'd be good for a hospital radio."
Lucky adds two jazz, and a rock song to the radio. The biggest issue is that he originally aimed to add a Spanish song from his childhood, but got caught in his own head, scribbling it out halfway. The good thing? Miner is able to read bits and pieces, writing what he could make out - angering Lucky into writing the full title. He jumps when it plays on the radio days later.
I believe that's everything I had listed. Thanks to RDL for allowing me to compile all of my thoughts before adding them here, as these are now far more conjoined.
Oh, right! The bonus thing! Considering the song suggestions were taken on a piece of lined paper, I thought it would be fun to visualise what I believe the main casts' handwriting would look like:
If you have any thoughts/additions you want to make, you have full reign to send me asks/reblog this with whatever you like. Have a good one, lads - EMO
#rambles of the hermit hole#rhythm doctor#oh yeah speaking of cole idk if unreachable is implied to be a song he wrote so uh#yeah lets say yes#this would be a really funny 5+1 kinda fic ngl but i cant write for shit rn so sorry#cole brew#nicole ting#rhythm doctor miner#rhythm doctor insomniac#rhythm doctor samurai#maximo lucky joneronero#rhythm doctor stevenson#ada paige#rhythm doctor ian#sorry for the tags I spent too long on this

A playlist dedicated to the suave and super cool second-in-command of the CR:5~

Also I just want to put the banner pic here because asdfghjkl it's beautiful and I just want to stare at it in a museum

VAMPS - LOVE ADDICT
This song is...bouncy xD It makes me want to prance around the room.
The wolf whistle at the beginning is a great touch xD And the clapping makes for a song that must be a blast to play and hear live. This song has that very 'sex, drugs and rock n' roll' feel to me. It's sexy like Luchino. xD
2. Devil May Cry V OST - Garage (Main Menu Theme)
I adore this main menu theme xD It just sounds so right. Perfect for enjoying a drink at the bar/pub or chilling with your mates on a van.
I wanted to use 'dirtier' rock music for Luchino, to distinguish from Ivan's 'youthful hot-blooded' rock.
3. Survive Said the Prophet - found and lost
The maiden opening to Banana Fish. And my first ever Survive Said the Prophet song, I've yet to try out the rest of their discography but I quite like their sound based on the few songs I've heard of them, mostly from anime ha.
Banana Fish is an anime I highly recommend (don't be put off by the BL tag - it's not even BL), just prepare a tissue box or several
Marcille be singing Mukanjyo after finishing Banana Fish
On another note, I feel that this song speaks to the deeper parts of Luchino's psyche. On the surface, he's a suave ladies' man who seems to be that typical womanizer, but like Ivan he's quite intelligent, great with people, competent, and has his own baggage. I was touched when he decided to share with Gian about how he lost his wife and daughter, how he felt personally responsible and how the immense regret haunts him to this day. That scene when the two of them go visit their graves is heartwarming, and I'm glad that Luchino found love again despite saying that his wife was 'the only one' for him.
So instead of being Banana Fish's 'found and then lost', him meeting Gian became a story of 'lost and then found'.
4. HYDE - Season's Call
When I think of Luchino, I think of HYDE. xD HYDE just has this voice that speaks wonders to me, to say it's pleasant to listen to is an understatement. HYDE sounds great in L'arc~en~Ciel, VAMPS, his solo career, his collab songs with anime, I love how he can sound sweet or sexy depending on the song.
5. DRAMAtical Murder OST - Milky Way
The ED song to Mink's end in Dramatical Murder re:connect. Performed by VERTUEUX, and composed by Hideki Sakakibara. It's such a beautiful song and my favorite out of all the ED songs in re:connect.
The 'futari de' at the end...damn, it just makes me want to cry.
6. Guilty Gear Revelator OST - Freesia
Why am I the only one to cry in style when YOU can cry in style too? xD
Composed by Daisuke Ishiwatari, you can practically hear the Queen influences in this song (Queen is Ishiwatari and my mom's(!) favorite band). It's like the last part of Let Me Carve Your Way but now it's a whole song designed for maximum emotional pain. xD
I want to call it Guilty Gear's Baka Mitai. xD
I could see Luchino drinking to this song on a bad day. xD
7. Aimer - 残響散歌 (Zankyou Sanka/Reverberant Melody)
The second opening to Season 2 of Demon Slayer. It's such a great choice for the Entertainment District Arc and its focus on Tengen and his 'flashiness' xD.
It just makes you want to go ✨も派手派手だ!!✨
8. Yakuza 4 OST - Make Me a Lady (Stellar remix by GeorgeTheStrange)
I love Yakuza, I also love Lucky Dog xD It therefore makes sense to put them together. I don't know if there's a name for this type of song or what kind of genre it is (it could simply be called pop xD but maybe there's something more specific), but it reminds me of Lonely in Gorgeous from Paradise Kiss. I wanted to capture that certain glamorous-ness aura that Luchino charms women (and men) with.
Since it's an unreleased song, there is no clear credited composer, could be either Chihiro Aoki or Hidenori Shoji.
9. Yakuza 5 OST- Elise (Ambient Dreams ver. by GeorgeTheStrange)
Composed by NEXT DESIGN, this song is so fun to listen to. I imagine this to be playing in one of Luchino's clubs, he reminds me a lot of Akiyama from Yakuza who is this savvy man that runs his own club called Elise. This whole song makes me just want to vibe and slowly bop my head to it.
10. Togainu no Chi OST - STILL (JPN ver.)
The ED theme to Togainu no Chi. Performed by Itou Kanako, and composed by Hideki Sakakibara, while STILL may not have as many versions as Receive You, each version brings something to the table. This version is my favorite one because I'm partial to Japanese vocals xD No special reason.
It *ahem* 'still' gives me the feels years after playing Togainu no Chi, imagine getting the above wedding CG while this song plays, you'd cry too right?

Negative Gears—Moraliser (Total Punk)
Negative gearing is a term for an investment where the cost of ownership is more than the rate of return—as might be the case, for instance, if you bought an apartment building that required more money to maintain than it generated in rent. It is, perhaps, the most pointless of capitalist activities, one in which, for all the effort involved, the investor digs him or herself into an ever deeper hole, and it can serve as a metaphor for all kinds of economic struggle. Slightly modified, it is also the name of a kick-ass garage punk band from Australia, whose dire but tuneful racket recalls the epic dystopias of the Wipers and the new wave glamor of Echo & the Bunnymen.
This is Negative Gear’s second full-length, though it’s been half a decade since the self-titled debut (which Maximum Rock ‘N Roll described approvingly as “Six demented screeds bifurcated by one ’80s synth interlude”). That’s a rough five years, including COVID, lock-down, raging forest fires, growing income inequality and an increasing sense of climate doom, and Moraliser reflects the trauma. “I…..hate myself….hate myself,” howls the singer in claustrophobic “Room,” a room which nightmarishly contains only a mirror.
The album really gets going in its mid-section where muscular riffs power through a cavernous, echoing ruin. “Ants” imagines a striver taking in the panoramic views from his apartment, congratulating himself on his success (“I guess some people just can’t handle the unbearable pressure of an upper middle lifestyle”). By the song’s end, though, he’s jumped to his death (“Sixteen stories to paradise”). The narrative is grim, but the music is stirring, anthemic, eruptive, a swell of synth bursting from clanking, chugging post-punk riffs. You can make connections to brute force Aussie punk bands like Eddy Current and Total Control, but there’s a dark romanticism in there that reminds me of Echo & the Bunnymen, too.
“Lifestyle” is the album’s churning vortex, its main riff circling downward like a whitewater eddy. “Always, always, always,” chants the singer in broad, flat Australian vowels, and you can hear him and the whole band scrabbling at the edges of modern life, trying not to go down. “Pills,” which follows, is boxier and more propulsive, chugging maniacally forward on a pick-clanking bassline.
Moraliser is all sinew and effort, bulling forward with doomed energy even as the walls close in. It’s the sound of trying so hard in a system that’s rigged against you, of not going under without a ferocious struggle, the sound, maybe, of negative gears gnashing on their way to the abyss.

I've only ever heard one person say the phrase "eat my shorts" and not mean it as a Simpsons reference, and it just happens to be in "Maximum Overdrive", the movie written and directed by Steven King in 1986 when he was on a lot of cocaine, which features Yeardley Smith (the voice of Lisa). I think King might have made it up in the same creative throes as when he wrote the line "you wanna rock 'n' roll with me, pusbag?!" and they used it on the show as a joke

Got a couple more of questions for today :D
1: when’s their birthdays?
2: what’s their favorite music genre/bands
3: in a fight using full power, no holding back who will win between the two of them?
4: not really a question, but it would be cool to see a “super Saiyan” transformation for the both of them:
Jake: could have spiky hair and starbolts that changes colors based on power levels; green -> red/orange -> purple.
Chris: I say a darker super saiyan blue hair color.
Btw thanks for answering my questions, love the starburst duo will keep on asking questions :D
1) Jake was born on December 21st, the first day of winter (somewhat a reverse of how Dick was born on the first day of Spring) while for Chris, after some years and looking through the calendars and records from the Fortress of Solitude’s databanks, Clark and Lois deduce his birth date being around June 14th. It’s the best guess they got for that one lol
2) They’re both Rock n Roll fans beyond any shred of doubt. Where they differ is their style and decade of rock. Jake leans much more heavily with the Power Ballad/Hair Metal types of the 80s including the likes of Def Leppard, Poison and Guns N Roses while Chris sticks with primarily the 60s and 70s hard rock scene which can include The Who, Deep Purple and of course Led Zeppelin. That being said, they’re both Beatles fans above all else
3) it’s a very thin margin but Chris ultimately comes out on top of an all out brawl between the two. It would be a literally mountain shattering and ice glacier destroying affair
4) Jake’s form as described here is what he can dub the “Ultra Tamaranean”. While regular starbolts are fuels by righteous fury, starbolts in this form are fields instead by pure rage.
As for Chris, when summoning the Nightwing entity at its maximum potential, it’s both dark blue hair as described, a black yet also blue aura that surrounds him and his eyes glowing in bright blue as well.
Needless to say, at their maximum potential, these two are the stuff of legends
No problem, I love talking about my dream team my friend. If anything thank you @gothicghost2000

219: Eddie and the Hot Rods // Teenage Depression

Teenage Depression Eddie and the Hot Rods 1976, Island
Eddie and the Hot Rods were pub rock legends, which is one of those particularly subby subgenres you need to be fairly deep into your second divorce proceedings (thanks for nothing Debra) to understand as distinct from punk rock or power pop. You do know it when you hear it though—more soul and maximum R&B than punk’s bleached ferocity, a certain sing-songy bop. The Hot Rods had as frenzied a staccato attack as any in the UK’s first generation of punk, were considerably more competent musicians, and beat most of them to market by six months to a year. They also had a lot less to say artistically, but the Rods still made a formidable mini-boss for any fledgling punk band who shared a bill with them.
youtube
Their debut Teenage Depression absolutely goes—half of the songs are originals recorded in a studio, the other half ferocious live covers, and all of it sounds like a party thanks to their relentless “Train Kept A-Rollin’” chug. Of the originals, “Double Checkin’ Woman” has the best riff and is therefore the best song, but the snappy “Been So Long” and “Why Can’t It Be?” (in certain moments a dead ringer for Stiff Little Fingers’ “Alternative Ulster”) aren’t to be slept on. As to the covers, they’re all pilled to the gills, though the specific songs vary a bit between the UK and American issues, as was (annoyingly) common at the time. Alongside the expected ‘60s rock chestnuts (e.g. The Who’s “The Kids Are Alright”), the UK version showed greater range with its takes on Sam Cooke’s “Shake” and Joe Tex’s “Show Me”; the North American edition swaps these soul tunes out for more white R&B, including Bob Seger’s recent “Get Out of Denver.” (Wild that at a time when Seger couldn’t buy a hit outside the Midwest his numbers kept cropping up in UK bands’ live sets.) The most impressive testament to the Rods’ power as a live force might be that they manage to get more than an eyeroll out of their medley of Them’s “Gloria” and the Stones’ “Satisfaction.” It’s an object lesson in the power of teeth-kicking rock ‘n’ roll that even those played-out jams can sound new again given sufficient wallop.
Folks who are into this kind of music tend to already know Eddie and the Hot Rods, but if you’re a Reigning Sound / Dr. Feelgood / Oi! etc. type and you haven’t had a session with Teenage Depression, best get to it.
