Listening to Beni interactions in the Cddrama is so funny because overall it’s like Koujaku’s a single father taking care of his cringe teenager son that is trying to impress the girl he likes (aka ren and aoba)

Beni and Koujaku share certain personality traits and motifs, Beni also playfully repeats in the birthday track something Koujaku said to tease Aoba (which is so cute and endearing you have to listen to it) and sometimes I wonder if Koujaku would have grown to be more similar to the Beni we know if he hadn’t lived trauma after trauma.

He was always a rebellious kid with a golden heart, which he still is deep down, but due to circumstances he’s constantly trying to maintain a façade, controlling whatever impulses he might have, so that kind of joyful impulsive behavior got watered down a lot. He’d be the type to mess up a lot because he just gets an idea and immediately jumps to it without preparing just because he thinks it’s cool and he’s excited instead of thinking it through like he does as an adult.

It’s not until really strong emotions flourish that he gets impulsive and irrational, but we only see the negative side of it, the side of his hatred, anger and despair. So maybe now that he’s on a different path in his life, he can worry a little bit less and let that joyful impulsive Koujaku out.
