My dad’s in Kolkata right now for reasons (don’t ask me why I’m just as clueless) but he offered to bring me a couple of my books from my old place there and I had to sit here 8938 kms away having to choose between all of my children. What will the rest of them do??? I feel like bad mother choosing between her kids.

I kept getting whiplashed reading their descriptions like -#'she's around 40 maybe... hmm no 17 it seems' and 'ah yes a 30-something guy! who's also 17. perfect.' I just don't think it was needed.#but I still thought they were interesting characters and the story was fun to follow along.#shortly after I finished reading the book we got a copy of it in the store. just. chilling. in the bottom of a box.#it's so rare that we get good fantasy and then it just happened to be this specific one??#sadly it was printed in my first language (cringe) but my boss bought it for her daughter so all's well!

[bolts upright in the shower] i need to reorganize my bookshelves

#my showerhead is really low so i am always slouching in there #anyway currently my fiction is kind of vaguely by genre. but this is nonsense. i should be organizing it by what it's doing for me #a) mainly blorbos. or maybe the worldbuilding is really cool or the plot is really absorbing. comfort reads.#b) it's less about the story than it is about the way in which the story is told (though it can also be about the story)#b would be austen; woolf; ishiguro; moby-dick; the name of the rose; if on a winter's night a traveler; their eyes were watching god #but also definitely imperial radch; broken earth trilogy; the raven tower; green bone saga. and poetry by definition #a would be six of crows; graceling realm; some childhood favorites; possibly the dispossessed but i would have to reread to confirm #also the goblin emperor! and maybe babel. maybe connecticut yankee in king arthur's court?? i would have to reread #twain (and dickens) in general would be difficult because they are so fun to read so definitely comfort reads. but also! that satire!#everything i never told you (which i just reread) would go in a. i suspect i claudius would as well but would have to reread #my two favorite short story writers might go in different places? ken liu is definitely b but ted chiang might be a #i don't currently own piranesi because i gave my copy to my sister to give to our impossible-to-shop-for sister for christmas #but reacquiring it is a priority. and when i have it where will it go? oh goodness. that's really hard #with tmbd it would just be which shelf has room for all of them. bc they are doing everything & fit in all categories #i think battle of the linguist mages (which is not even one of my favorite books but it's just so batshit that i have to respect #how batshit it is. and therefore can never get rid of it)#could go in either bc i do really like the worldbuilding but also the main thing it is doing for me is just being really wild #and uncategorizable. and reminding me of how fun it was to discuss it with my sister #books #my posts #i guess if i started mixing in the french books instead of keeping them on their own special shelf i'd be putting dumas in a #and maupassant in b. sartre and queneau in b. ionesco obviously b. the dictionary in b.#verne in a. hugo probably also in a though i respect the grind. really not sure where to put valérie perrin. or colette #this is making me realize i can get rid of some french books because i'm looking at them now and i wouldn't put them in either #because i didn't really get that much out of them. so why am i keeping them?#wow maybe this will help me get rid of more books...the real endgoal. if it's not sparking joy then it's outta here #i could take this further and do it for the nonfiction too. roget's and le robert de poche would definitely be in b

Buying a new phone means I can finally get rid of my old iPhone 6 that's stuck at ios 8 but more importantly it means I'll finally have the crow emoji

if i may. inej and nina making their way through the world as girls who are treated as subhuman. jesper and matthias being raised "angry and afraid" of Grisha power. nina and kaz keeping their promises to get allies out of the bad situations they put them in. matthias and wylan being brainwashed by their father figures. jesper and inej having family waiting for them somewhere. wylan and kaz seeing relationships as transactional because of their culture and experiences. inej and nina being kidnapped from their home country. kaz and matthias being driven by cause. jesper and nina learning to hide behind false confidence. wylan and inej spending their teenage years locked away. they all started out the series with their own motivations, revenge or freedom or plain survival, but by the end their priority becomes the safety of all the others. No one has looked out for them like this before, so they learn to just do it for each other.

inej and kaz having issues with touch due to trauma. kaz and wylan drowning and being reborn in the ketterdam harbor. wylan and jesper feeling like they have to hide a part of themselves due to their fathers. jesper and nina being grisha with addictions. nina and matthias being raised as a weapon rather than a human. matthias and inej being deeply religious. inej and wylan making themselves smaller because of the abuse they suffered. wylan and matthias being forced into a life of crime. matthias and kaz losing their parents and siblings. kaz and jesper being thrown into the barrel because of reckless behavior involving money. all of these characters being so different yet so similar and forever interconnected with each other because they know that no one else will understand

There is a clear lead on my poll but I can't find that book in order to pack it, what the fuck

#i originally bought the Netflix cover of the Six of Crows book #and then later found an absolutely gorgeous pair of the duology and bought them together #but I dont think i want to pack my pretty copy into a suitecase #and I swear ive checked all my shelves but the Netflix cover version is just gone??#i have two book sleeves for protecting books in my bag #and i assumed its just in the one on my shelf that im not currently carrying around #but that one is empty too :c #I've checked every logical place i could have put it and found nothing #so time for illogical places i guess #kee speaks

I thought about this before... And with the heartbreaking news that there won't be a Shadow and Bone Season 3 just made this thought resurface for me again...

If Six of Crows was the first cab off the rank to introduce the Grishaverse to the non-reading world... would we be where we are now (i.e. cancelled, fans mourning, wolves howling)?

I don't know... For me, I have always felt that while S&B provides the context and the introduction to the Grishaverse, Six of Crows (and Crooked Kingdom) have always been the stronger texts. Just sayin'...
