Well... Even though I didn't plan it, I've watched three episodes of Crime and Punishment 2024 out of curiosity and (taking a deep breath) THERE IS SO MUCH WRONG WITH THIS ADAPTATION. I mean, they had every chance to produce a good series by adapting Crime and Punishment into modern era, but they failed. And I'll tell you why:
First things first, they mischaracterized nearly all of the major characters in the worst way possible. Why the hell did they get rid of Rodya's redeeming qualities that prevented us from despising him while reading the book? In the book, he had this kind of "rescuer syndrome" that made him give his last money to the Marmeladovs, to the policeman to help the girl he met in the street, and so on. What was the point of adding a kidnapping scene that wasn't in the book to the series if Rodya there was just standing still and casually watching how a man screamed for help? That was definitely out of character. I understand that there can be additional scenes in the adaptation that weren't in the book, but our main character should act accordingly in them. Like, logically (but not really correctly in some sense) it could make sense if they attempted to add more redeeming qualities to Raskolnikov's characters because nowadays we value human lives more than in the 19th century and if they want to make the audience not despise the main character of the show, it would be more logical to add more redeeming qualities to him. Instead of that, we got a mad murderer who acts like a maniac. I got disgusted by this guy, even though Rodion Raskolnikov is one of my favorite literary characters.
When it comes to other characters, they were interpreted as bad as Raskolnikov. I don't know who that girl was, but it was definitely not Dunya Raskolnikova from the book. Plus, the way Svidrigailov comes to the Raskolnikovs' flat and proposes to Dunya there is ridiculous. Because of the ridiculousness of this scene, Luzhin also looks out of character. That was not how I pictured him while reading. I won't even talk about Razumikhin and Sonya since I try to do my best to erase that scene with them out of my memory.
It was noticeable how the director/screenwriter tried to add some elements of The Brothers Karamazov to the series, and it could bring interesting results, but they disappointed me. A guy named Shadow who follows Raskolnikov like his hallucination but manages to act like a phantom was definitely borrowed from TBK. Most of the speeches he gives come from the Devil and Ivan Karamazov's dialogue in TBK. This Shadow guy actually raises a bunch of questions. I mean, It would be a good idea to add him in order to picture Rodya's monologues and thoughts as they appear in the book. But why, then, does this character appear in other scenes, too, with other characters when Raskolnikov is not around? And why the hell is he able to rob a market and use that food to have a picnic with Raskolnikov? There are only two explanations: either Rodya hallucinated this picnic and was not actually eating, or that guy is really some kind of ghost, and it switches Dostoevsky's realism into some paranormal live-action.
The part when Rodya talks about a boy who fed a nail to the dog was also from TBK, but I miss the point of adding it into series.
On the bright side, the scene that happens in the Raskolnikovs' flat when Luzhin sees photos of philosophers on the wall and asks if they are Raskolnikovs' relatives got me laughing really hard 😆

(I instantly noticed Camus here)
But overall, I hated this adaptation and how they managed to ruin my favorite book

Not only did Harlan drop the next episode early BUT I just saw that Wolfy started listening to Malevolent. First of all, I don’t know how this night can get any better and second, I cannot WAIT to see what they whip up.

People who’re trying to “This is just Tumblr” their way out of being informed about Palestine (re: a genocide) are so fucking weird. This is a social media. Thousands of dollars have been raised from people sharing information about Palestine on Tumblr. Just say you’re not saying anything bc you care more about your Tumblr blog aesthetic—or because you don’t want to put the effort into learning what’s happening. Like just own up to not giving a fuck

I just love how skeptical Fleet is. Like sir. Sir you are a cyborg brought back from the dead by dark and unknown sciences and you are drawing the line at the concept that a big dog might be mauling people. I support you fully but I'm dying to know what your logic looks like

As a rule of thumb, don't reblog donation posts or people asking for donations unless they've been vetted and reblogged by Palestinian bloggers. We usually go to lengths to verify this shit because we know scammers have been faking to get people to send them money, using the urgency of our genocide as bait.
It's disgusting this is what we're dealing with, but people are losing money because of some truly evil people out there.
Accounts don't just randomly spring up on tumblr without gofundmes while asking for someone to help them create a campaign. Fuck out of here with that shit.

Remember the 6 year old girl who was surrounded by Israeli tanks and the red crescent couldn't reach her? Her name is Hind Hamadeh. Here you can hear the phone call her 15 year old sister, Layan Hamadeh, made with the medics. She was killed exactly a moment later including all people in the car, except for 6 year old Hind who was stuck in the car with the dead bodies of her family, Israeli tanks and IDF surrounding her, shooting, preventing anybody to reach her.
That was last night (29.1.24). Today, still nothing. The fate of Hind remains unknown.
palestine red crescent ambulance team went to rescue her yesterday evening, but they have not returned as of now. We lost contact with them about 18 hours ago, and we still remain unaware of their fate and whether they succeeded in evacuating her or not.
Please, share Hind's story as much as you can on any platform. We need to know what happened to her. Put yourself in her place, how terrified she must be. Don't scroll past this.
This is Hind.
