Wings of Fire Headcanons

Pantala Edition

(and Nightwings because I forgot to put them in the last post oops)

Silkwings (my favorite)

Silkwing males are smaller than their female counterparts. This becomes more obvious after metamorphosis, with female wings being larger as well.

Silkwing antennae allow properly taught dragons to “feel” out a space. Much like a sound-free echolocation.

Silk comes in five varieties: Smooth, Soft, Sticky, Structural, and Sun for flamesilks. There are kinds in between, but these are the four most used.

Origami is a traditional part of silkwing art, right beside tapestries.

During the reign of Wasp, all Silkwing “matches” were required to have 2 eggs to maintain the population, with the exception of flamesilk matches.

In the Northwest of Pantala is a cave where glowing silkworms reside. An ancient Beetlewing religious site lies here that was used by Silkwings for spiritual practices up until the tree war. Around this site are the last of the pre-war temperate trees remaining on the continent, which were left there as a promise to Queen Monarch. Instead of cutting down these trees, Wasp instead put the entire part of the continent off limits.

Silkwings can be fluffy.

Vegetarianism is deeply rooted in the silkwing culture, leading them to create tofu and other unique dishes. The pure fruit and vegetables diet we see in the books is due to the danger of having any cooking implements in the webs and the disappearance of flamesilks.

Hivewings

Hivewings are the smallest of all the tribes.

Unlike most tribes, Hivewings fly by beating their wings extremely fast, leading to a low humming noise.

Some Hivewings are born with elytra (the bug kind not the Minecraft kind).

The hivewing tribe was formed approximately 500 years after the death of Clearsight, and the separation was mostly religious in nature, regarding the nature of Clearsights abilities.

Hivewings can very rarely develop modified moon-based powers (Before the move into dark hive hatcheries). Specifically, they can get a spider-sense like feel when something bad is about to happen, and get Fatespeaker-like impressions of what people are thinking or feeling.

Leafwings

Leafwings, like Rainwings, have scales that allow them to gather energy from sunlight. Unlike Rainwings, however, these scales are localized to their backs and the tops of their wings, making them well suited for long periods of daytime travel without rest.

Because of Leafwing’s inherent connection to the plants around them, their wing shape tends to reflect the trees they were hatched near.

The sail and wing membranes of Leafwings can be dyed much easier than other tribes, additionally, they can naturally change color due to diet.

Not all Leafwings were happy to join the Leaf-Silk republic. Belladonna led the disgruntled Leafwings (both Sap and Poison) and made a separate faction in the southwest of Pantala.

Nightwings

Nightwing wing scales match the stars under which they were born. Because of the island, the scales have become slowly duller over time.

After the exodus from the Night Kingdom, the Nightwings initially settled on the border between the Sky and Mud kingdoms, but after a brief couple years and the decision to bury the truth of Nightwing powers, they found the island.

The first eruption of the volcano happened 30 years before the War of Sandwing Sucession. Then another about 5 years before.

Nightwing religion has changed the most of all the tribes. First centering around the moons, then shifting to focus on the stars after the wiping of real powers from history. Finally, religion and spirituality slowly faded from Nightwing culture. You can still find some, but it is not common.

Arcane High School AU Headcannons

Jinx

-Shows up to class once a week (forced to by Silco)

-Somehow has the best grades in almost every class (100 in science, 99 in tech, etc.)

-All the teachers hate her because she constantly breaks the dress code and makes fun of teachers when they try to discipline her

-Just doesn’t show up for detention

-She and Ekko graffitied the back wall of the school and everyone knows it was them but nobody can prove it

-Ignores Vi whenever she tries to talk to her

-Has BEEF with Caitlyn and pulls pranks on her through her locker

-Says she hates kids but she’s always babysitting Isha

-She and Ekko constantly bicker in the hallways so people thought they hated each other until someone caught them making out under a stairwell

-Gives people piercings in the bathroom (it is NOT sanitary at all

-Blasts punk rock and metal music through her headphones so loud she can’t hear anyone

-Is on the Robotics Team, does drama (but she only helps make the sets), and refuses to join anything else

-Nobody knows that she and Viktor are secretly super close-they argue like siblings

-Sells drugs behind the school but doesn’t really take them herself

Vi

-Has dated half the female population of the high school

-Has okay grades (b’s and c’s) but has the best grades in phys ed

-Will scream at you in PE if you don’t pass her the ball

-Annoys Caitlyn all class

-Plays cod mobile or brawl stars instead of doing her work

-Gives Jayce HORRIBLE dating advice (he thinks that because she has a gf she would have good ideas)

-Gets into fights like every other day

-Will punch you if you say anything bad about Jinx

-Threatened to beat up Ekko when he and Jinx started dating (he knew she would never)

-On every sports team ever

-Somehow is the only girl on the male football team

-Failing the one class she has with Jayce

Ekko

-Soundcloud rapper//Jinx helps him produce his music

-Skateboards to school

-Always fighting with Jinx to have the highest grades

-Gets pissed that she doesn’t even put in the work and still excels

-Also on Robotics, plays basketball but nobody has the heart to tell him he’s too short

-Volunteers at a food bank and a homeless shelter every week

-Gaslit Scar into thinking he hated Jinx for the entirety of their freshmen year

-When Scar found out they were childhood besties he was like what

-Ditched prom with Jinx and got happy meals at mcdonalds

-Art club

-Draws Jinx in his sketchbook but won’t let her see it

-Ditches school with Claggor sometimes

-Pretends to hate Caitlyn because Jinx does (bf duties) but lowkey ends up having fun with it

-“Adopts” the weird kids from all the younger grades and forms a little Ekko fanclub indirectly

Caitlyn

-Her mom is on the school board

-Was homeschooled by tutors most of her life until she convinced her parents to let her go to public school

-Straight A’s

-Student Council Vice-President (going to be President after Mel graduates)

-Does track and archery club

-Hated Vi when they first met but warmed up to her

-Tried to get along with Jinx for Vi’s sake until Jinx blew up her locker with a huge project in it and now she has beef with her

-Tries and fails to break up fights

-Breaks the rules but gets away with it because she’s sneaky about it (I hate when ppl make her a goody-two shoes like she wasn’t constantly undermining authority in the show)

-Doesn’t understand why Ekko hates her

-She introduced Jayce (her childhood friend) to Vi and has regretted the decision ever since

-Gossips with Mel in the bathroom

Jayce

-Co-president of robotics team

-Has all a’s in every class except the one class he has with Vi which he is failing

-Will ditch class to go annoy Caitlyn

-The teacher either love him or hate him no in between

-Tried to get onto Student Council to impress Mel

-Plays sports

-He will constantly argue either Ekko, Viktor, and Jinx during robotics

-Bi king can’t decide if he’s madly in love with Viktor or with Mel (ends up with Viktor tho)

-Somehow super popular even though he was a loser in middle school

Viktor

-Has been hopelessly crushing on Jayce since middle school

-Hits people with his cane

-Mostly quiet unless something he’s passionate about comes up

-He and Caitlyn get along really well and ditch Jayce and Vi whenever they start to act stupid to go gossip with Mel

-Secretly has a Youtube account with 100k subscribers but all he does on it are video essays and random rants

-Gets asked “are you gay?” every other week

-He is but he won’t admit it

-Robotics Co-President, Debate team, student council

-People don’t make fun of him because he will literally find ur address and somehow get the police at your door

-The Robotics club becomes his cult and the younger kids worship him

Mel

-Super popular

-Good grades

-Student council president

-Everyone is lowkey scared of her

-Sprays her vanilla coconut body mist everywhere

-Everyone knows her because her mom is some super famous politician

-President of the Debate Team

-Model UN

-Gossips in the bathroom

-Manipulates the teachers into getting her the grades she wants when she doesn’t wanna do the work

-Only dated Jayce for the popularity points and to piss off her mom

-Is lowkey queer but doesn’t know how to label herself so she just ignores it

-She’s really sweet if you actually get to know her and is the friend that buys everyone super expensive gifts

-Buys kids toys to give people she doesn’t like as gag gifts

Post-war AU! (Yes, I'm trying to do more steamy drawings, more is coming) I imagine Obito to have mellowed out quite a bit after the war, with him atoning for his sins and everything?? He would be easier to bully at the very least haha Personally, I think Kakashi'd be the more proactive one of the two, since Obito'd be feeling guilty and wouldn't want happiness for himself? Then Kakashi has to try to get him to care more about his own live?? Obito'd be living on a cliff all alone, with Kakashi coming to visit every so often in between Hokage duties?? He's trying to migrate into society slowly but surely, helping out all the grandpas and grandmas out there. I wanted to draw him in white - just a blank slate, ready to be made anew, despite all the pain and suffering. Well actually he just looks really good in white, with that white hair?? Very elegant. Overall it's just silly shenanigans with potent sexual tension disguised as friendship. Biggest plot point is that there's a rumor going around that Kakashi is gay, but he tries to deny it, thinking Obito would be weirded out?? There was a point where in his anbu days, Kakashi had a one-night stand that looks like Obito??? Not gonna spoil anymore, in case you plan to read it!

I know this has been discussed before, but I can't stop thinking about what Gale was doing before the nautiloid.

In his origin playthrough Tara will mention that Gale left in a hurry. Gale tells us that, when he left, he had run out of magical items and Tara was somehow procuring them for him. He never left the house or interacted with anyone else.

Gale had a plan in his mind for how he was going to die. If you ask him, he tells you how he was going to go into the depths of the underdark, where there were little to no people, and poison himself. So he would go on his own terms, taking no one else with him.

The nautaloid during the opening scene is in Yatar, which is north-east of Waterdeep, and about a weeks travel by carriage.

Now, also, Gale wears very plain wizard clothes. And he has on him a true resurrection spell with a "game" to encourage people to revive him if he dies prematurely. All the spells he has in his arsenal are protection spells.

So I think Gale was in Yartar when the nautaloid picked him up.

Seeing his dwindling collection of magical artefacts filled Gale with a deep sense of dread. Tara's efforts to find more were becoming increasingly strained, each excursion taking longer than the last. She wasn’t young anymore, and Gale was tormented by the thoughts of the dangers she might be facing, all for him. Where was she even finding these rare items? The cost must be immense. Was she risking her life? He couldn’t bear it. This was his fault, his hubris, and no one else should have to pay for his folly.

The fear in Gale's heart grew, paralyzing him with guilt. He couldn’t let this continue. Noticing his sudden burst of activity—an unusual sight for someone who rarely left his bed these days—Tara grew suspicious. He assured her he was seeking a cure, and she had no choice but to believe him.

Determined to end this before Tara could persuade him to stay or, worse, join him, Gale made a rash decision. He planned to head north, hastily gathering his things. He cleaned his tower, donned his most basic robes, and prepared spells for protection. He knew he might have to rely on the kindness of strangers to survive, but he was prepared and ready to face whatever came his way.

In the dead of night, without a word to anyone, not even a letter to his mother, Gale fled. His heart was heavy with shame, and he couldn’t bear to say goodbye. He left Waterdeep behind, ready to succumb to his fate, feeling utterly worthless and unworthy. This was his penance, and he accepted it, even if it meant dying alone in a desolate place.

Alas, he only made it to Yartar. When we meet him, he is fearful and desperate. He doesn't want to die, but he it seems that fate has said otherwise. He dons a mask and pretends that everything is okay. How can it be okay when you've a bomb in your chest, a tadpole in your head, the countdown timer to oblivion is ticking fast but the only one who could possibly save you has abandoned you and at your at the mercy of a group of strangers.

I hc that after Bruce’s infamous spine-breaking fight with Bane, all the Batkids pitch in and get Bruce one of those super bougie gamer chairs for the Bat-Computer. Like this thing is all leather, it’s got cup holders and LED lights, and that bad boy swivels smoother than butter.

It’s also bright fucking red. Robin red.

You ever think that Crowley isn’t a bookseller and refuses to even act like one because Aziraphale doesn’t like to sell books? He won’t act like a “bookseller”, because Aziraphale doesn’t like selling books. That’s Aziraphale’s safe place and he doesn’t want to somehow mess it up.

“Are you a bookseller?” “Not even at gunpoint.”

Sitting right across from Aziraphale, he says that he wouldn’t sell books even when he was being threatened. Yes, it’s Crowley being over dramatic, but it’s also a reassurance. He doesn’t even let the books burn in 1941. He didn’t have a choice in 2019. Crowley might not run a bookshop, but he’ll keep it safe. Even if keeping it safe just means not letting anyone buy books from a bookshop
