You ever think that Crowley isn’t a bookseller and refuses to even act like one because Aziraphale doesn’t like to sell books? He won’t act like a “bookseller”, because Aziraphale doesn’t like selling books. That’s Aziraphale’s safe place and he doesn’t want to somehow mess it up.
“Are you a bookseller?” “Not even at gunpoint.”
Sitting right across from Aziraphale, he says that he wouldn’t sell books even when he was being threatened. Yes, it’s Crowley being over dramatic, but it’s also a reassurance. He doesn’t even let the books burn in 1941. He didn’t have a choice in 2019. Crowley might not run a bookshop, but he’ll keep it safe. Even if keeping it safe just means not letting anyone buy books from a bookshop

So I have been seeing interesting discussion on the endings of Gabriel. The miraculous movie vs The season 5 finale ending.
-And the criticisms for the movie ending are valid, Marinette/Ladybug’s conflict is a lot less personal (cause time constraints)
-Gabriel technically defeated himself
-There wasn’t enough build up for the climax to feel satisfying unless you knew the show.
-Marinette’s personal involvement felt minimal to nonexistent. (She never met Gabriel)
-The powers are inconsistent
The wrap up was too quick
And these are legitimate criticism, especially because we never have Marinette interact with Gabriel once. Something that should have happened.
I can understand how that ending could feel unsatisfying.
Then we have the season 5 finale, which has the opposite problem
-It involves Marinette so much that Adrien is completely sidelined as a response.
-Gabriel ‘Wins’ but according to the writers he lost. (I saw the commentary. I vehemently disagree with there interpretation)
-Adrien never finds out about any of this
-Lila feels shoehorned in as the season 6 badguy
So I thought about both sides more, rewatched the S5 finale and the ending with these new perspectives and… I still prefer the movie ending more than the finale.
But why is that? Objectively speaking The movie is much more flawed and has very littler personal investment of Ladybug vs Hawkmoth. Something that movies don’t often do.
While The show has built up this personal conflict between Gabriel/monarch and Marinette/ladybug
By all logic I Should prefer the show ending.
But I don’t, and it’s precisely BECAUSE of the reasons I listed.
Movie! Marinette’s lack of personal connection to fighting Gabriel allowed me to focus on Gabriel’s motive and his interaction with his son. His genuine care of his son being his downfall MADE sense. Marinette was focused on saving her partner than fighting a villain, which the movie showed to be more of the core of the movie. Even foreshadowing the “Save one Life, save the world” line. And it even fits the fairy tale theme ML tries to go for.
Meanwhile the Show’s ending had a really good fight at the core with Marinette and Gabriel clashing. The fight between Monarch and Bug noire is one of the best in the series… BUT it’s because of this conflict that the ending feels so GUT WRENCHINGLY awful. Because it’s just another case of Marinette failing to stop Gabriel from doing what he wanted. Gabriel may have changed his initial wish, but he still basically did what he always did, cease power and leave Marinette to clean up the mess.
Even taking Adrien out of the equation doesn’t help fix the ending. Because Gabriel still did what he wanted. Gabriel gets a statue, he gets to die seen as a hero that he never was. He is seen as a good man. And it leaves Marinette having to let Paris think that. We don’t see Marinette doubting this, we don’t see opposition or even a question on it. It’s Marinette once again doing what she always does, taking on the burden.
Ah but the difference is that ML still has more seasons. This could all be subject to change. People could find out the truth. The wish has consequences.
And that is correct. There are consequences. And do you know who will face those consequences? Marinette. Because she always does. That’s what the show Always does.
The movie ending also has a potential sequel, but at least there, Marinette and Adrien don’t have secrets, Fu is still there, and the weight of reality doesn’t hang on Movie Marinette’s shoulders only.
And I think that’s what it comes down to.
It’s because I love Marinette that I hate how she has to fail after all her efforts and would rather have an ending that has less personal stakes for her if it means she can be better off as opposed to this drama bomb that basically left her back as the one with the weight of reality on her shoulders.

The Art of Miscommunication: Ineffable Edition
The more I watch S2 (over and over again like a complete maniac), it really becomes so obvious that ever since Armagedidn't happened, Crowley and Aziraphale just ... haven't been talking to each other. At least not properly. They may have been talking at each other or past each other but clearly, both of them have things they feel and want that they just keep failing to communicate properly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Take this scene, for example. It's one of the very first scenes we see of them together in S2. And it shows us one thing very clearly: They're not listening to each other. Not even in the slightest.
I can't help but feel like before this scene, there have been many other unspoken disagreements between them, along similar lines. Disagreements about how exactly they should carve their existences out for themselves. There seem to be so many things they're just not communicating to each other, it's no wonder they both seem so on edge and charged with unspoken subtext during their little argument.
We know that Crowley hasn't even told Aziraphale that he's been living in the fucking Bentley for four years now. Or why that even is the case. He also hasn't told him just how awful it was how Gabriel treated him when Heaven cast Aziraphale into hellfire. At the same time, Aziraphale seems to be struggling a lot with not having anyone to report back to about the good things he's doing. And instead of talking about that to Crowley, he just "uses" him as a substitute for Heaven. Not that Crowley would mind that much, obviously, but still: Both of them just keep tiptoeing around what is actually bothering them and instead say and do things that simply end up throwing the other one off because they can't understand the intentions and reasons behind the other's choices.
"Exactly." – "Exactly."
"My car." – "Our car."
"We're in danger." – "We're safe."
"You don't understand what I'm offering you." – "I understand a lot better than you do"
"Run away together." – "Stay and fix it together."
I waffled on about how each of them have settled into their "new", post-(not)-End-of--the-World lives in this reblog, but I really think it was very clearly set up for the entire season, that all of their non-existent communication was gonna end up sabotaging their happily ever after in the end. Of course, it probably would have gone differently if a certain, Metatron-y variable hadn't intercepted at the very end.
But still: I think the main thing Crowley and Aziraphale will have to learn (in S3) is that, just like Maggie told us, "talking" doesn't equal "talking to eachother". And that in order to carve out a mutual existence together, you have to be honest and open about what you want and feel.

on aziraphale
um- hi, spoilers- other people may already be saying this but I don’t think that this has been said just yet- not substantially, I’m not sure what I’m saying I have been standing for 7 hours this is life now.
I was thinking about Aziraphale and his attitude towards Crowley and something began to occur to me about their relationship that I don’t really see being recognized, I was reading a thread about the rejection and how people thought Crowley had taken it; most replies consisted of “Oh he’s hurt but knows Az loves him and is waiting it out” which is probably perfectly reasonable but I felt there was something that was not being addressed.
Aziraphale likes Crowley, he probably loves him, (though I really do not think he has the maturity to have recognized that, considering the “I’ll forgive you” thing) he at the very very least likes him and his company and feels that he is good intentioned, but he is unbelievably prejudiced against him for being a demon. He’s ok with being friends because he feels that Crowley is abnormally good (which isn’t untrue) (and because they both like earth which is- the only reason they interact for like 20,000 years) but he won’t accept that part of him- Crowley is not fond of angels like at all but he does not hate Aziraphale for being one- it is just what he is and that’s fine- it’s not a thing that needs to be fixed or changed- it makes him, him. For Aziraphale their difference is a flaw, a mistake- and regardless of how many times he watches heaven be indifferent and even cruel to people and earth (which he loves) he manages to convince himself that heaven is still good and this new horror is just a little misunderstanding- hell is what’s bad. I think his desire to change Crowley had to be hurtful- for literally all of time Crowley has been helping him, saving him, and generally putting all of the work into a relationship that Azirophale; A- avoids, B- reams, or C- eventually caves to because Crowleys appeal must mean that he’s good even though he’s fallen which is like sooooooo dreaaddfuyllllllyyy unfortunateeeee…
I find it so frustrating, I absolutely understand it and why but I think or at least hope that it will be something that he needs to develop on in season three; this will probably not happen but I’d like to see the dynamic reverse in the sense that presumably after realizing “oh yeah, Gabriel dissented from Armageddon literally once and was almost factory reset, what might that mean for me?” And end up having to be the one who puts effort into fixing their relationship because he kind of like pushed it off a cliff and then accidentally set it on fire- this, is very unlikely though because I thought of it so oh well. I’m very interested in hearing what other people think also
Additionally I do not think that anyone else’s theory’s are Incorrect or stupid just that Aziraphale is and has been very hypocritical and prejudiced against Crowley which i wanted to address and hope is addressed if not simply an area of growth.
thank you- that all probably made no sense at all but I tried to get my thoughts across-

Questions for Princess Bee au, since you said you were following but soft rewriting events in S4 and S5, if these are things that you've thought of:
How does Lila's whole 'three mom scam + lair in the catacombs' thing work? Are you ignoring it bc of how nonsensical it is? Bc like, the only way I personally can think to make that plot work at all, au or cannon, is by using that 'Lila has been a Senti the whole time who was made a long time ago with the purpose of stirring up shit and antagonizing Miraculous users and that how she's pulling everything off' idea that someone brought up a while ago.
Is the Derision prank being ignored or rewritten? I know you hate it and the episode, and Chloe being Heather Chandler levels of cruel and feared pre-Origins is not gonna be a thing in this, but the prank itself doesn't seem much worse than some of the stuff Chloe did in S1, at least to me, so im curious what you're gonna do with that
((is Kim still gonna be dumber than two turnips in a rain barrel?))
What happened with Gabriel? Are you keeping him going full bastard post-Miracle Queen, or going to go the HC route with him? If you're settled on the Wish being used by Adrienette to stop him, I'm assuming he soundly lost, no statue or being remembered as a hero for him. Is he in jail?
((Also, is Natalie just dead if Gabriel didn't get the Wish?))
If you're keeping Feligami but making it a bit healthier, are you working with them and Adrien being Sentimonsters, or is that being thrown out?
Okay so! Lotta things!
Lila may be put on a slight backburner for now. I will scrap the three moms plot, because that's just??? How the fuck does she pull that off?? As far as Canon, she was still a teen who was going down a dark path and in this AU she unfortunately didn't get help and has continued said dark path. How much she's done in the meantime is up in the air, but having her still as a con artist is probably on the table. That said, I need to hammer out her motivations and what she plans to do should she get the Miraculous because like. As petty as she is I'm not going to say she's still miffed about Marinette calling her on her shit.
Derision is.... kinda both? I have a rewrite for this anyway but short version: yes Chloé was a bully and pulled pranks. This was another prank. No, not everyone was scared of her it's still the Origins-level and the prank wasn't quite as cruel because no feelings were involved(also maybe fake spiders instead of real ones). I'm saving Kim's character by 1.) having him semi-unaware of the prank? LIke Chloé tells him they're pulling a prank and he's on board but he doesn't know what's in the box and also 2.) afterward he's like 'yeah no that one was mean' instead of 'it's just a prank bro!'. Mari was hurt by it but not Super Extremely Traumatized™, and it has nothing to do with her stalking Adrien(that was just her being a bit lovesick and she addresses it in a much healthier way another time)
Gabriel is.... a bit up in the air. I am going with his Season 4-5 self so I'm not redeeming him. I can't /quite/ figure out a way he'd win that would have Mari and Adrien resort to using the Wish to stop him without having him use the Wish first and they reverse it. So either they reverse his Wish, or Gabriel's Wish in the first place included blocking all of the other Miraculous Users from being able to use the Miraculous so they can't undo his Wish. I'll debate on what to do with this one, and we also debate on Emilie and Nathalie's fates. If they reverse the Wish then Gabriel's probably alive but in jail and the Team would spend time finding how to fix Emilie and Nathalie(probably gonna be nice and fix them). If it's just Gabe gets the Wish and blocks them from fixing it, then he's dead but Nathalie and Emilie are fixed. Sill have to debate on /how/ he manages to get the Wish because I don't want Marinette to be a fucking moron but ya know.
I am working with the Sentikids plot! But I'm adjusting a few things!!
1.) Adrien, Felix and Kagami are Special and the other Sentis aren't Sapient Beings, so there's no moral issue over how many Mari killed or Felix making tool ones like Red Moon and OUAT. With this also comes the option to free them from their Amok's control.
2.) I'm having Tomoe be a lot better. She loves Kagami, though she did have her business deals with Gabriel. She's not as much a part of the supervillain thing past 'Gabriel has the Peacock and he can snap my daughter out of existence so I will do what he asks'. She's far from perfect, but her hands are tied for a while. And even when Felix gets the Peacock, not only is she unsure of if Felix is a threat to Kagami or not, but she's also in too deep and if Gabriel goes down so does she
3.) I'm bringing Felix's whole thing down a LOT of notches. He doesn't hate all of Humanity, he just hates the few in specific who treat him and the others like tools. So in Emotion, he only kills Gabriel and Tomoe, knowing Gabriel is like Colt and assuming Tomoe is as well when he finds out Kagami is a Senti. He does realize he's wrong later when he's eavesdropping and trying to find ways to get Kagami out of her situation and sees that her mother loves her. Their romance is also more slowburn instead of immediately hooking up.
Also an overall change: Adrien knows about what's going on and we have a proper reveal goddamn it!!

Hey, do you have any idea what V1 does with it's 2 extra arm, well other then bloodshed
it gets to be FULL silly with them!! ok but fr i think the arms are an interesting little quirk with v1 and a way that it shows its strange tendency toward mimicry and learning. i wouldn't you know it...i talked a lot!!!
it's known that the machines harvest parts from each other, but i think v1 has a unique block put on that behavior as nothing it gains from other machines would have its capacity for healing through blood contact. however, through meeting v2 it gets a rare opportunity to override those blocks and copy the scavenging it's seen since it can make decently valid arguments that these are the parts of a highly compatible supreme machine and essentially trick its own system (v1 has to do this...fairly frequently in order to do as it pleases)
at first, it's pretty utilitarian with its gains - battle is always its first priority, but it also quickly sees their usage in maintenance. i imagine when blood is low or the battles haven't been going great, v1 has to do repairs on itself as well as repairs to its weapons, and the extra set of hands is pretty welcome as well as the unique properties the arms bring to the table (the knuckleblaster is good for pinching and digging, like fingernails, as well as snipping while the whiplash offers the ability to hold parts together/in place as it fixes them and it allows v1 to reach places most others can't so it won't be disturbed). however, it takes it some time to realize they may have other uses that it could play with, things it could do for its own amusement or even for creation's sake.
BIT OF A TANGENT, but one thing i like to think about...is v1 being very interested in and taken with the idols the ferrymen have made. it knows little about the creative process, it knows very little about making in general, and so its mind ponders over and over the use of something like those sculptures. time went into them, energy, thought and meaning, but v1 doesn't understand it whatsoever. they serve so little purpose and they're so easily destroyed, why make them at all? it supposes initially they have use in their ability to bless, but the terminal tells it that was never their purpose, the ferrymen made them in an act of compassion and their utility is a side-effect of their carving. so v1 thinks and thinks and THINKS....quintillions of thoughts a second, until it decides to learn by doing. it destroys a bunch of furniture and even walls and flooring for wood, and, with more deep thought (staring at a piece of broken wood it's holding for hours), it starts using the claws of the knuckleblaster to carve. it carves all sorts of things it's seen as it cannot create purely from its mind, sculpting out crude forms of everything from the furniture it just broke down for its materials to different demons and machines. and while it doesn't quite get it even after carving dozens of pieces, this makes it realize its extra arms have more uses....it can do whatever it wants with them!
largely it uses them to play with despite the waste of energy this entails, whipping things around with the whiplash and using the percussive blasts of the knuckleblaster to watch trajectories (makes for fun target practice too) and it can do this for a LONG time lol it also likes using the whiplash for something like acrobatics, although it can't think of anything too graceful on its own (its routines grow much more elaborate after it observes more of gabriel's flight patterns...the kind when he's not pissed off). it still tries to make occasionally too, but overall i think v1 is much more interested in the kind of fun it can have with them, the movement they allow it and how it can create change (rearranging the furniture in a room until it likes it using ONLY the shots from the knuckleblaster...although its idea of room "aesthetics" is pretty off from ours lol) of course i DO love it sculpting again to make things for gabe, but it's like. entirely random bc it doesn't really understand significance. like here i made this it's a pillar i saw in limbo :] is for you :]

Hi there! Why do you think Aziraphale said "I forgive you" right after their kiss ended? Do you think he was referring to the very act of kissing, i.e. forgiving Crowley for kissing him without his consent? Or did it include a more general conotation, forgiving him for what he said, his general thoughts and behaviour?
Okay, there's a lot to ramble about here, and I think its a ramble because I'm not 100% sold on my own thinking. There's a lot of ways to interpret it (one laying into Aziraphale trying to tap into thje fact that Crowley believes he is 'unforgivable' and so using this to try and resolve things) but I do think it could go another way:
Considering this isn't the first time Aziraphale has used "I forgive you" to respond to Crowley, I'm sure it's basically these gays don't know how to communicate (again).
One of Aziraphale's issues is that, while he is very good at forgiving. he really isn't good at resolving personal emotional conflict. I don't mean all conflict -when there's an issue that the two of them are working to solve together (The apocalypse, Gabriel turning up at the bookshop), they work brilliantly. But the conflict I mean is talking about personal disagreements.
When you are faced with a disagreement from a person you care about, its good to talk things out and try to get both of your feelings on the table. You talk, and then you search for a compromise and a resolution. And at times, for a lot of relationships, things can be said that hurt. It takes time to figure things out, and it can take moments of needing to think. But, you do have to face the bumps in order to move forward and to avoid your relationship from falling apart
Here are the two situations that lead to "I forgive you".
The first season, Crowley was exasperated trying to convince Aziraphale to go with him to Alpha Centauri, but still holding his connections to heaven Aziraphale rejects it. Crowley says, "you're so clever, how can someone so clever be so stupid."
The second season, the two of them couldn't reach a compromised solution and, in a clearly agonised overly emotional kiss (truly trying to express everything going on in his head and heart) Crowley is, once again, making an attempt to convince Aziraphale to stay with him. Before that kiss, Crowley said, "you idiot. We could have been 'us'". He also, fully outright rejected the idea of them going to heaven together.
The two of them, despite regular teasing, hold a high opinion of the other. They are a little unit, and they do have each others backs. They protect one another. Receiving an insult (a genuine comment that hurts or something that may feel like an emotionally-driven act) from a person you hold that dear can really hurt.
Crowley used the words "idiot" and "stupid". Plus, clearly, that kiss left Aziraphale in a state of shock and overwhelm. There were a LOT of emotions coarsing through him at that moment, and you can see him trying desperately to work his way through them as quickly as possible. Ideally, they would give each other time to figure things out. This is the most confrontation they've possibly ever had with one another and it's a lot to process. It's also terrifying that the person you care for most in this world can cause such high amounts of emotion.
But even with all those conflicting feelings, there's one thing that Aziraphale is good at: forgiveness. Even when he thought Crowley was about to kill Job's kids, he said 'may God forgive you'. It's how he handles those bigger emotions. How he handles shame, or guilt, or how he handles a strong difference of opinion
Another way to look at Aziraphale's choice to give Crowley forgiveness in this scenario, is like when someone uses the word "sorry" all the time to fix a conflict or an argument. It's used to swiftly resolve the issue and try to get your relationship back on good terms. But, with time, if the issues don't get resolved or addressed, those sorry's soon lose their meaning and you struggle to forgive and forget. You don't fully address the issue, and you're left still feeling irritated and unsatisfied. Eventually, you probably give up.
Have you ever heard the phrase "sometimes sorry isn't good enough"? Well, maybe the same could be said for forgiveness. Sometimes forgive and forget leaves you stagnant in your situation. And I think that Crowley has heard forgiveness from Aziraphale over and over and over. He's given out his fair share of sorry's, and it's been met with forgiveness. But so has everyone else -he even seems to have forgiven Gabriel who was emotionally abusive to the next level. Aziraphale's forgiveness, being offered to everyone, has less meaning now. Even if, in this last occasion, it meant so much more than the others.
It takes a strong heart to forgive in the heat of the moment, and I'm more than certain it was said out of that. To forgive, despite feeling so much pain and strong emotions from Crowley's actions, is a real show of heart courage and strength. And I do think that this 'forgiveness 'does mean so much more than the others (e.g. compared to Maggie's rent). But from Crowley's pov, it may be hard to see that.
For many of us, the default of wanting to patch it up and make it better is "sorry". For Aziraphale, it's the other end of it: forgiveness. But offering forgiveness after a heated moment like that kiss, rather than talking about it, is stubbornly separating yourself from the conflict, not resolving it.
I'm convinced that Aziraphale didn't want that to make Crowley leave. The little 'no' he mouth's as Crowley walks out clearly means he wanted the other to stay, that he didn't want them to separate. But Crowley doesn't want forgiveness. And like saying sorry, all that saying "I forgive you" did is just end the discussion.
Or I don't know, maybe he was just forgiving him for them breaking up idk my brain hurts from this show I swear

For the ask game!! 1, 4, 5, 7, 14, 18, 24! (I know it’s a lot lol sorry I couldn’t choose.) Also I will absolutely tag you in stuff!
If you ever want tumblr advice feel free to ask, I’ve been here for three or four years which seems short honestly to me LMAO
A lot is good! I like a lot! It's an excuse to post, and a lot of these really made me think lol
1. when did you first watch/discover good omens, and how did you find out about it?
I started watching somewhere last year, I think in late summer/early fall. As for why? My boyfriend! We're both neurodivergent, and if you think my Good Omens hyperfix is bad, his is worse. I finally let him bully me into watching it and it became a hyperfix that eventually evolved into a SpIn.
4. what is (if you read) your favorite good omens longfic?
Ok, I considered a little white lie here, but I'll be honest; it's you'll never be lonely (you're my only one) by ladydragona and SylWritesStuff. Omegaverse has always fascinated and comforted me, and this is probably one of the best I have read in any fandom, and definitely the best out of Good Omens. I love the ineffables' relationship in it and Warlock's characterization. I could rattle on abt this fic for paragraphs upon paragraphs but I'm not gonna do that to save everyone's sanity lol
5. what is (if you read) your favorite good omens one-shot?
Ok this one was hard because I read far more one-shots then longfics but after digging through my bookmarks, ultimately, it's i am just the (new invention) by littlesnowpea. It's cracky, it's sweet, Crowley is oblivious and Aziraphale's a bastard. I clocked him from the very beginning so the "YouTube comments" were and still are some of the funniest bits of any fanfiction I've read
7. what is your favorite underappreciated quote?
Help my memory is dying. Uh. I do not know that many quotes so it's probably not underappreciated but maybe one would be Crowley's "Lovely knowing you all. May we meet on a better occasion." From the body swap. It kinda gets drowned out by Gabriel's infamous line directly after but it always sends chills down my spine. Crowley's got Aziraphale down to such a science that he knows, without a doubt, that even when being faced by death, he'd fawn. He'd be polite. It's powerful.
14. what is your favorite good omens-coded song?
Take Me To Church, 100%. No questions asked.
18. what is your favorite moment through history, and why?
It's a basic bitch answer and I know it's a basic bitch answer but it's the 1941 church scene, ok? Nothing can beat it for me.
24. what's a theory for season 3 that you NEED to be included?
Crowley's gonna be mean. Like. Really mean. And while I know we all want and need(heh) them to get their happy ending, it's not gonna be right away. I want to see that anger, that frustration, that pain. I also want Aziraphale to snap at some point. I want them to know just how much they've hurt each other so they can actually work on fixing it.

Hi ,yes, I've been thinking about this and I NEED to talk about it even if it may sound a bit dumb in some parts (my brain still isn't working properly ahah) :
I don't think the Metatron did anything to the coffee to manipulate him, which doesn’t mean he DID NOT manipulate him, just not necessarily with magic and miracles.
So i’m pretty sure we all noticed that the discussion between Aziraphale and the Metatron was weird, but I wanted to analyze it as much as I can.
SO... I do think the Metatron manipulated Aziraphale, and he did this by making him think he had a choice in the matter. This happens four times. The first time being,,, with the coffee, like I said I don't think he did something to the coffee (which doesn't mean I completely rule out the possibility) but I do think the coffee is rather some kind of metaphor or just, represent the Metatron manipulations. As far as we know Aziraphale drinks tea and hot cocoa, not coffee, yet the Metatron bring him coffee, something he doesn't want/like, tells him it’s for him, that he should drink it, he doesn’t outright force him, but it’s implied he wants him to do it.
The second time it happens is right after (well technically before AND after), when the Metatron tells Azi they have things to talk about. Aziraphale clearly says he doesn’t have anything to say, yet the Metatron doesn't hear him and right after the little coffee thing takes him to take a little stroll, to talk, he didn’t give Aziraphale the choice to refuse.
Third time is when the Metatron asks Aziraphale for recommendation for an archangel. Aziraphale does give some recommendations but in the end the Metatron doesn't hear it, and just tells him that he should be the one, once again, the choice was already made, he wanted Aziraphale to think he wasn’t being forced into this (i’ll come back to it later)
Fourth time is right at the end of their chat, when Metatron tells him that he doesn’t have to answer immediately and to take all the time he needs to think about this. Right after Aziraphale says “I dont know what to say” the Metatron tells him to go tell his friend the good news, about them becoming angel, even thought a few seconds earlier he had told Aziraphale he didn’t had to agree to it yet and that he could think about it before.
Now I also want to talk about the Metatron and Crowley, I think it’s very clear that the Metatron doesnt like Crowley (just see the look he gave him before leaving the bookshop) and its safe to assume that he knew Crowley wasn’t going to agree to any of this (see the “So predictable” line he says to Nina earlier), so why would he tells Aziraphale to tell Crowley the “good news”. First of all, because if he had just left with Aziraphale, Crowley would have most likely thought that Azi had been kidnapped again (not far from the truth tbh), OR if he had forced Aziraphale to be the supreme archangel Crowley would have known it too, and would have probably tried (and succeeded) to help Aziraphale (we know how much he loves saving him). The Metatron needed them to break up, he needed Crowley to think that everything was over, that Aziraphale had made his choice, and that he DIDNT need saving, AND he can’t have them together, because we saw how strong the miracle they made together was, who know what else they can accomplish together. SO on top of that, the Metatron needs Aziraphale, not bc of his capacity as a leader (which,,, he doesn’t really have honestly), but because he’s easy to manipulate, he still believes in heaven being good and he still believes he can fix it. They saw what happened with Gabriel, who gave up on heaven and armageddon 2.0 because of Beelzebub (which I DID NOT see coming lmao), and they can’t have that happen again

I'm sorry but I'm going to dump my feelings about Good Omens S2 here.
About the last 15 minutes or so from ep6 I really think now this has had to happen even if it fucking HURT. They don't have a healthy relationship going. They don't talk about their feelings and only assume what the other one (or anyone else for the matter) want. Crowley really needs to find a sense in life other than Aziraphale. And Aziraphale needs to learn a lot about himself and what he wants in life. He needs to see the impact heaven still has on him no matter what the Metatron may have told him. I know the feeling when you think you are now strong enough to tell your superiors 'No' (for me my father in that regard) and then they stand in front of you and you fall back into that role they expect of you as if nothing ever happend. You KNOW what you are doing is wrong. You can feel it but you just can't break your conditioning. For Aziraphale it's been +6000 years. You can't just shake that in 4 years. That would be like 4 days for a human or something. He hurt Crowley terrible with it that's true. But I think it's fixable. (I know it is because there's a S3 with a happy ending) but it will be a hard and stony path. Aziraphale really needs to shake off Heavens influence on him but that can only happen when he sees for himself that he can't 'fix' Heaven. He got Gabriels job for somebodys sake. We all saw how it ended for him the moment the set a toe out of line. 'When you take that offer you can decide about everything' lol nope. And that offer about Crowley being an angel again? Who says he can remeber everything that has happend and they don't just erase his memory like they have planned to do to Gabriel? He outwitted them with the fly but that sure doesn't work a second time. But I'm probably reaching and now I've lost the thread where I wanted to go with this.
Want I also wanted to say we've got soft, gentle and romantic. Look at them dancing or the first minutes of ep1 where Crowley created the stars. The part about Hiob was funny too. I really laughed a lot and I was so happy to see them again.

But anyway my six pences about s2.

I keep thinking about Jane Austen and class and class interactions and how clearly Crowley was of higher rank and far more powerful than aziraphale and kept his power, which aziraphale seems to know if we take his plea for Crowley to do something on the tarmac as an example. And angel vs demon and where that may futz up the classes of fallen angels and explain their responses to things.
We have this ranking issue here like Edwardian culture-
Gabriel and Beelzebub can follow the party line and then spin and discard it when they like because they never had to worry much about superiors nor really cared about underlings and humans, they just exist, they drop the fries and take orders and are disposable. Of course they can run off when they discover love. They are upper class. They can be scandalous and still get what they want.
Crowley pleas to God like a peer in S1 like he’s used to it and was high enough up to know the structure from the top down. And as an angel he appears to be more focused on sustaining his creation and sees aziraphale as an underling, but not in a resentful way. Just in a yo-coworker, drop what you are doing and help me out kind of way, aziraphale is The Help. But falling gave him the opportunity to live and appreciate the present and the small moments and beings. So now he uniquely has knowledge and experiences of the upper and lower classes of beings- he knows they are all the same inside. And while he also has the instinct to up and leave when it no longer suits him like Gabriel and Beelzebub, he also now actually knows all ranks of angels and demons, he appreciates them and treats them with respect, plus he now knows and appreciates life on earth and the diversity of people on earth.
Aziraphale is positioned as a worker bee here, perhaps lower management in comparison to Muriel. He’s been tasked with some smaller, focused things in creation and is balancing keeping higher ranks happy and lower ranks comfortable. He’s very aware of the class and power ranks going on in heaven and possibly hell. He also has a strong belief and probably a hand in working on earth and humans. Where he is struggling is with the idea of what is right and what is good and where God stands on these things vs where the higher ranking angels stand on these things, he is also confused on the conundrum of
God=trusting archangels + archangels=wanting to destroy the earth, but to him it doesn’t equate therefore God ?=? Wants toDestroy everything.
So he is going through this emotionally loop after loop after loop. He doesn’t understand the top down hierarchy other than they must be better than him because God thinks so, he isn’t as good as them and it’s not his place to understand. Not his place to question. Where this plays in his thoughts of whether he is good enough for Crowley, the being he knows in his mind is better than him and not really demon-like, I’m not sure. OF COURSE when given the opportunity to raise to that rank, he’s going to take it because he’s now seen some questionable choices from the upper ranks. He knows how to fix it!
And he knows Crowley clearly was happy as an angel and is also on the same wavelength as him in wanting to save earth and respect it. Aziraphale thinks he would be delighted to come back to heaven and fix things. If fact, he’s hurt when Crowley is like wtfno.
And in this entire thing, both are wrong and both are right but they are coming at it from their class experiences (which will be interesting to see how Muriel handles things) and therefore meeting crosswise
Also also - I do wonder if a little part of aziraphale figured all along he would take what he could get from this angel he admired so much because clearly he’s not worthy of someone as wonderful as Crowley but getting this rank/class bump from the metatron would make him worthy. Except Crowley knows the entire system is bullshit and aziraphale was already good enough

Do you ever think about how Marinette and Adrien's potential relationship flaws are actually compatible giving them 1. an oddly solid chance, but also 2. complete hot mess and disaster potential?
Adrien is needy with abandonment issues to the point of becoming irrational. It's easy to make him feel slighted regardless of whether that slight is real or perceived. He often jumps to conclusions that center around him being unwanted or unneeded, leading to moody outbursts as in Glaciator or to Sadrien ("You didn't make enough pastries for me. Is that it?🥺") in Heroes Day. Jealousy is a huge possibility, which might not currently be a problem for "Adrien", but as he grows and incorporates more of the parts he lets slip as Chat Noir into his personality, we might see more of the possessiveness he showed with Theo or the petulant anger he showed to Scarabella and Flairmidable. He has a lot of insecurities and someone with a more detached/less showy romance style might be torturous for him. He needs constant emotional validation ( And therapy) or he may become sullen, moody and even accusatory.
Marinette is anxiously obsessive over the object of her affections to the point of pushing privacy boundaries. She's also a conclusion jumper, but more externally than internally, dreaming up some big disaster ( "Adrien's running off to Japan with Kagami!" over the internal "Ladybug hates me and all is lost." She's the type to go through a phone after he's been out too late or show up at his place of work, sneaking into the janitor's closet to scope out the scene in pajamas if she suspects something is going on with his secretary. She's jealous too, but in less of a direct lying or anger sort of way and more of a covert or scheming sort of way. Her anxiety and relinquishing concern over what she cannot (or should not) control will be paramount or she runs the risk of becoming just another puppet master in Adrien's life.
It works in kind of neat but remotely horrifying way because Marinette is a helper. She's often going out of her way to UNSAD someone. She already has mountains of gifts put away just for that occasion. Her romance style is not detached. It may even be smothering. She gives too much of herself to those she cares about (to the point that she has little time) and she's prone to self blame. So where someone else might say to the insecure, moody lover who just jumped to an insane conclusion "Hey you're REALLY overreacting right now. Seek therapy for your daddy issues", she might say "Omg am I actually a TERRIBLE GIRLFRIEND? How can I fix this?!" and brave the eggshells.
Also neat and horrific, Adrien is used to being surveilled and controlled to the point of seeing it as normal. What privacy? He has no privacy. Gabriel bugs his phone and is currently trying to get him wear a fancy tracker. When Felix points out that his father's control of him may be a problem in his debut episode, he smiles and says his dad is very overprotective of him... like it's sweet or something. So his girlfriend peeking at his phone once or twice? Child's play. I'm willing to bet he could easily be talked into being one of those couples that have no boundaries with phones/social media. Also showing up unexpectedly at his workplace in pajamas because you had a dream he was sleeping with his co-worker? While a healthy boundaried person might say "Hey, you're being batshit right now. Seek therapy for your paranoia and anxiety", he might say "Omg I am so glad you showed up just to surprise me. I really thought we were on thin ice after you didn't give me a second goodbye kiss this morning!"
I personally love a good toxic option for relationships and believe that no good fictional relationship is that interesting unless it has mirrored toxic potential to match it's great potential. I still believe in the great potential. Adrien and Marinette are both compassionate and willing to compromise and FOURTEEN. They care about each other's comfort and will check themselves even if the other seems ok with/is unaware of something they've identified as wrong . Marinette has a healthy parental relationship to look to for guidance. I'm just saying if anyone has any fic suggestions (that's not salt) that explore the above issues, I would like to read.
I do think it could be interesting to explore how both of their issues could interact like this, though it would have to be navigated very carefully to keep from bashing either character or the relationship itself. It'd be neat to see it go from the less healthy, more iffy, yet still weirdly functional kind of relationship, to slowly working through their issues to something healthier (though man for Adrien I think that's gonna require not being under Gabriel's thumb anymore, a lot of his anxieties stem from needing to survive Gabriel's abuse).

who’s ur top 10 bands/artists?
GOOD QUESTION and i might say more about them than i need to but that's probably fine. i also can't really order them from like #1 - #10 (if i even have 10 to list yet actually) because i love them all for different reasons and, because those reasons are so different, i can't place one above another in my mind(except possibly one of them but i'll get to that). so i will just number them as i think of them
1. okay so i love iron maiden very much and although i love all of the members, bruce dickinson is my favorite from them. they're probably the first band that i ever said was my favorite and meant it. i love the way they are with the fans and how genuine they always are about everything.
2. HOWEVER, even though i didn't really acknowledge it for a long time(and actually may have forgotten they existed for many years before getting into them again after iron maiden(oops)), sweet was actually my first ever favorite band since i was a kid. i used to play a cassette tape of them over and over all day every day. my favorite of them is brian connolly, i love his voice. i used to stare at my dad's (now mine) desolation boulevard vinyl cover a lot when i was little. i remember looking at steve priest's red hair the most.
3. some might think i'm out of my mind for grouping showaddywaddy into the mix, but i love the sound of doowop. and they did it so well while also being so fun to watch. i actually can't watch any of their videos without smiling or laughing, even if i'm in the worst mood, which is exactly what they were all about. my favorites of them are buddy gask and malcolm allured.
4. AND THEN WE HAVE BADFINGER. pete ham and tom evans are my favorites of them. pete is the one that i might put at the very top of my favorites list. i love him so much, he was a very good guitarist and songwriter and i don't think enough people are aware of it. i love his mind and his voice is very soothing to listen to. he was a very gentle, sensitive and caring person and he deserved the entire world and everything good in life.
5. i haven't officially said it yet until now(i think?), but argent is the most recent addition to my favorites. from when i was first sent a video of them a while back and i heard russ ballard's voice and saw the way he is on stage and the sound of the music, i KNEW right away they would eventually be one of THE BANDS and i already knew russ would be my favorite of them. what i DIDN'T expect is for him to be so.. inspirational? i don't know what other word to use. like everything he says in interviews and things makes me pause the video for a while to rethink my entire life and what i'm doing with it(in a good "maybe i can fix my life" kind of way). i actually cried my eyes out earlier over some things he said. he's a very good guitarist as well, and pianist and of course the songwriting, among other things. BEAUTIFUL singing voice that he could do many things with. he's so full of life and joy and optimism. and MUSIC. he is very full of music. my love for him is growing rapidly every day.
6. okay before i gush so much that my phone battery dies, i'm going to list one i don't really post but has been one of my favorites for a long time(again i didn't acknowledge them as a favorite until recently). i love genesis. all of genesis, but when i started listening again after not listening for a few years, i was suddenly more into their earlier music with peter gabriel, which is the opposite of how it used to be. (still love(d) both eras then and now though)
7. AND i can't leave out suzi quatro being my favorite bassist! or one of my favorites or something. i love her and i don't think she's talked about enough. i still have to learn more about her.
okay i think i'm out of favorites. unless i'm forgetting one. i don't think so.
i'm somehow too easily attached to bands but also very picky about them at the same time while also basically loving everything. i don't know how that works.

Can I be honest? I think people are a bit too optimistic about Carlos talking to Gabriel. It's taken him so long to be able to even say aloud that he's hurt by the past. And Gabriel isn't the type to start a conversation either. I don't like how shows often make it seem like all that needs to happen for a strained relationship is for them to talk and then everything is good. As someone who has a much better relationship with my parents now but it's still not as great as I'd like it to be, it's disheartening to see shows act like a relationship can be magically fixed by talking. Sometimes you just have to accept the relationship you have rather than the one you wish for. I do hope that Carlos and Gabriel talk at some point but I don't think it's realistic to expect them to become best friends the way people seem to hope it will. I think it's important to show that a relationship can get better but it still may not be what you want it to be and that's just how it is. Carlos and Gabriel are still a lot better than they used to be but I feel like people are expecting them to talk and for them to immediately become super close like TK and Owen. But as Carlos said, TK and Owen have had a special relationship since TK was little while Gabriel and Carlos have always been distant. There relationship now is a lot better than what it used to be. I've talked to others who also feel like it's unrealistic to expect things between Carlos and Gabriel to just change if Gabriel tells Carlos he's proud of him but they're afraid to say it because of how people might react. I'm not trying to bring anyone down, I'm just saying that it can be good to have a relationship like Carlos and Gabriel's too where it gets better but it will never be ideal because that's the reality for a lot of people
You can always be honest and yes I agree. I would LOVE them to have a super honest emotional conversation but I am not expecting it to happen. I've already been so happy about how much Carlos's trauma has been acknowledged this season when I really thought they were never going to do that, I don't think the heart-to-heart we all want is necessarily realistic.

I got to 2x04 last night in my Lone Star rewatch, and all I can think about now is my overwhelming need for some Carlos backstory. I NEED to know more about his past and his family. I really want some information about his past relationships, what growing up was like for him, more about his extended family, and really anything and everything Carlos-related. I'm especially fascinated with his relationship with his parents. There's clearly so much love there, and we see his parents lovingly supporting him in the show. I love Gabriel and Andrea so much, but I really want to know how they got to the point where Carlos felt like he had to hide important parts of his life from them to not "rub their noses in it." Did they change over the years or were they just really bad at communicating? And I also want to see Carlos's feelings on this now, particularly as he gets ready to marry the love of his life with complete love and support from his parents, something I have to imagine Carlos didn't think he would get to have for much of his life. We are perfectly positioned to get some (or all) of this in season 4, so I really hope the show delivers!!

My #1 post of 2022
I just finished up the ice storm arc in my Lone Star rewatch. As a result, I've been thinking a lot about the breakup and wondering what was going through TK's and Carlos' minds during that time.
Obviously, TK was the one who walked out, but you know he broke his own heart along with Carlos' when he did it. I imagine that TK probably regretted his actions fairly quickly. At least a part of him must have wanted to fix things, but I could see him being afraid of being rejected by Carlos if he tried. TK "blew it up" because things seemed so perfect and then his insecurities came creeping in, triggered by the reminder of his past mistakes in the form of his bad credit. (Also a reminder of how his past mistakes can still hurt him in the present, and perhaps even affect Carlos so maybe Carlos would be better off without him.) Because of this, I can see the fear of Carlos outright rejecting him being enough to stop him from trying to reach out, even when he must have inevitably realized that he did the wrong thing in walking out.
When I previously watched these episodes, I got the impression that Carlos had initially tried to reach out to TK because Carlos references in 2x02 TK not wanting to talk to him until he's in the ICU. ("Typical TK. First time that he wants to talk to me in months and, of course, it's because he's in the ICU.") I took that to mean that Carlos tried to talk to TK but TK wouldn't respond. But maybe Carlos didn't reach out. In previous seasons, Carlos never really chases TK. He's there when TK is ready, but he lets TK come to him. I could see Carlos doing that again, only this time, TK never comes back. Just thinking about Carlos sitting alone in the loft he bought for the two of them, waiting for TK to come back so they can make up, but he doesn't, so Carlos eventually just tells himself that it's over and he has to accept that..."you have to know when a thing is over." 😭
And if Carlos never reached out to TK (or even if he initially reached out and then gave up when he didn't get a response), I could definitely see TK misreading that and feeling like he was sure to be rejected if he tried to reach out to Carlos. I could see TK feeling like, as horrible as things were in the moment, it would be just too much to bear for the love of his life to tell him to get out if he tried to go make up. So he just didn't go and the longer they went without speaking, the harder it would be for either of them to make the first move.
Anyway, just torturing myself by writing angsty missing moment fanfiction in my mind instead of getting work done. Typical Monday afternoon.

I know your response was probably for op but boy have I been THINKING about Maggie.
(Under the cut- this got way longer than I thought it would, wowzers 💀)
On one hand, everything she says (SPECIALLY the whole “I had brothers” 😭) is weird and matches the whole “Metatron is an amateur writer” because I refuse to believe Neil Gaiman would write that unironically when we know how good he is at giving characters depth (like op said, she just. does not talk like a person).
But the focus onto demons being bad spellers (demon struggling with Aziriphale’s name, “surrender the angle”, “they’re t-o-s-t) and then focusing onto her making a spelling mistake (“ugrency”) for seemingly no reason seems so??? There’s gotta be more to it. Same as her making a note of not drinking (which, also like op said, would link her back to angels).
At first I thought, “ok, maybe demons are just not actually bad spellers at all”. Since all the scenes showing this are ones op theorized as being warped by megaton (the magic-trick-zombie-picture thing in 1941 + the whole demon fight) it could just be him writing them to be dumber than they are and Crowley making an assumption accordingly. But then whyyy would he write Maggie to have a spelling mistake? Is Metatron a bad speller?? (Despite everything, that feels like a stretch to me).
It also brings the question of how much control Metatrustfund would theoretically have. I mean, seemingly everything, one would think. it’s the book of LIFE. But we still don’t know what the book of life is other than “erasing someone’s name = them never existing” (???). What is this funky space head’s plan that he needs to manipulate Aziraphale (so heavily, may I add) into it instead of just writing it into the book? If he can (again, theoretically) manipulate demon’s actions and possibly Aziraphale’s (the whole halo thing, which too. I agree. Is so weird).
Some possible ones:
He’s making an example out of him, he knows how much he craves the validation and how far he’d go for it (though I feel he underestimates his relationship with Crowley, he got him to start asking questions, it’s gonna take more than separating them to shut that off). Just erasing him from the book of life would do nothing for him.
He wants Crowley, either on his side (where he can be controlled) or far from Aziraphale (minding his business). We know he’s powerful and was high-ranking angel. They stopped the apocalypse together, they could do it again, he needs to keep them in check.
(I’m not that big-brained, I’m sure people have thought of better ones but I need smtg in my brain to make sense of it)
Also? going back to the book of life because seriously what. I love op’s idea of it, almost like a story book in which you can make edits here and there, maybe add a character, but it’s just, the angels directly telling Aziraphale they could erase his name from it is driving me nuts.
Being able to erase someone from the book of life seems so?? Why would hiding some naked-amnesiac guy merit a punishment like that when Satan is literally going around just. being Satan. I mean, ok, I guess canonically (I can’t believe I’m saying that for the literal bible) he’s important because humans have free will and they can only do good if they can choose to do evil etc. etc. Along with him being a big part of the bible’s plot, would it just mess up a whole bunch of things around because he’s that important? What are the repercussions of erasing someone’s name? Does someone have to go in and rewrite all the missing pieces? Is that what Metatoystory3’s been manipulating?
Either way, if they could (supposedly) erase Aziraphale’s name that easily, why not just erase Gabriel’s? Would that not fix the whole thing?? (reinforcing the system, they don’t have to worry about Gabriel anymore) is he also too important? Is Aziraphale not???? Metavoltron, of course, comes in calling bullshit, “you’re not authorized to do any of that” but doesn’t that imply there’s someone who is? And again, whattt are the repercussions of this.
Anyway thanks for reading, again apologies for getting so off track but I’d really really love to get more discourse on this. This fandom is an absolute gem.
The Magic Trick You Didn’t See: Being An Analysis of Good Omens Season 2
(or: Neil Gaiman, Your Brain is Gorgeous But I Have Cracked Your Sneaky Little Code And Have You Dead To Rights*) (*Maybe)
***
Soooooo I just spent the last 48 hours having a BREATHTAKING GALAXY BRAIN EPIPHANY about Good Omens Season 2 and feverishly writing a fuckin16,000 word essay about the incredible magic trick that @neil-gaiman pulled off.
Yes, it’s long, but I PROMISE your brains will explode. Do you want to know how magic works? Do you want to know what Metatron’s deal is (I’m like 99% sure of this and it’s EXTREMELY FUCKING GOOD)? Do you want to know about the Mystery of the Vanishing Eccles Cakes and the big fat beautiful clue I found in the opening credits? Do you go through the whole inventory of Chekov’s Firearm & Heavy Artillery Discount Warehouse?
Here is the essay, go read it: https://docs.google.com/document/d/193IXS11XN46lziHRb6eUpM17yK0BQkRqke1Wh64A_e0/ When ur done u can tell me I’m an insane crackpot, and u know what, i won’t even be offended
In case you don’t know whether you want to bother reading the whole enormous thing on google docs, I’ve put the first couple sections of it under the cut. JUST TRUST ME OKAY, HEAR ME OUT, THIS IS VERY EXTREMELY COOL, NEIL IS GOOD AT HIS JOB–
Keep reading
