Daily reminder that your belief in something doesnât make it inherently true and people are allowed to be skeptical and approach it the same way as any other concept
Another reminder that people are allowed to criticize things you believe in because againâyour belief in it doesnât make it infallible.
Things donât exist in a vacuum and Iâm tired of people pretending that we should just âlet people believe whatever they wantïżœïżœïżœ when their âbeliefsâ have been scientifically disproven multiple times and continued spread of misinformation regarding these topics can be cause of harm to many people.

This is how they'll reveal she's alive trust.
No face reveal. Just the close up of her boots walking into frame and BOOM! episode ends.

The âThatâs immoral you shouldnât write that, we need to get that taken downâ discourse on tiktok right now is PISSING ME OFFF
Wdym you want censorship for a literal ARCHIVE are you fucking stupid
Ao3 was literally founded to preserve works that were largely getting taken down due to censorship
Censorship is the opposite of what Archive of Our Own stands for
The TAGS and WARNINGS are there for a REASON. Use them and stop complaining
The universal ruleâdonât like, donât read
Itâs THAT simple
#I 100% agree with this#especially if you know you write about heavier topics/things that can be controversial

If you clicked on and read a fanfiction that had tags or a description that upset you and you were upset by it, that's your responsibility, not the author's responsibility.
If you were reading a fanfiction and you got to an unexpected part that disturbed you and you kept reading after you were disturbed, that was your choice and your responsibility, not the author's.
No one is forcing you to read fanfiction that upsets you. The back button is your friend.
If you are reading a piece of fanfiction it's because it interests you. Horrified fascination counts as interest. No fanfiction is holding you hostage and forcing you to read it.

"Now obviously I agree that itâs absolutely disgusting to write explicit material of child celebrities, but censorship is never the answer."
what the hell IS the answer then? please, do tell. i doubt it'll be anything other than "just let them live! they're not hurting anyone đ„ș" considering how you equated people not wanting to see that shit to literal fascism.
If you donât wanna see it get the hell off of ao3??? Ao3 was literally founded to be the space where people could write freely after the great purges of many other fanfic sites (including ff.net)
Thereâs also an exclude option to filter out anything you donât like. Ao3 has no algorithm, youâre only seeing shit you search for, if you donât know how to use the filtration system properly then thatâs on you
And they ARENâT hurting anyone. There is no such thing as thought crime or art crime, you canât apply laws or moral code to fiction itâs not REAL
If you donât want to see something, filter it out. You donât have the right to dictate what other people write. Ao3 isnât made to cater to you, itâs an archive. You curate your own experience.
And censorship is literally the first step to fascism. Itâs not a coincidence that purity culture and misinformation is running so rampant right now. I implore you not to fall into that rabbit hole and educate yourself.
This is the internet, unless youâre a child (in which case you shouldnât even be on ao3 in the first place) you donât need someone else censoring your experience. Grow up and learn how to use the platform before making it everyone elseâs problem that you not only are entering a space made to protect writersâ freedom of speech, but youâre also complaining about that very thing.

I really don't understand how "without getting kudos or comments a fanfiction author is going to assume that people who clicked their fic didn't like it" became a controversial take.
I don't know why some people think an author should imagine, or guess that people who click their fic enjoyed it it when nobody is telling them that.
If you're re-reading a fic constantly, or leaving it up in your tab so that it re-loads every day for a hundred days the author is not going to know that unless you tell them. They'd love to hear it. It would make their day.
And if you don't tell them you liked their fic, there's no reason for them to assume you did.

Smut fic on AO3 always seems to have a way lower kudos to hits ratio than non-smut fic; because a larger percentage of people reading feel ashamed to attach their screen name to a kudos on an adult fic.
Which is a shame, really.
If you're posting smut, never let yourself be disappointed in the number of kudos.

Donât even get me STARTED on the way the general population view large corporations as some sort of moral authorityâthey think âwell if it was signed off to get distributed to the general public then it must be okay because someone high up thinks soâ but if everyone else does it itâs suddenly a crime
When are people going to learn to think for themselves?
I agree with literally everything you said prev
The issue of not being able to remove fiction from reality and understand the subjectivity of morality is a HUGE issue
Same thing with equating morality with legality. Since when do we use the governmentâs idea of what is right and wrong as a moral compass?

AHHH yeah I know this debate has been going on forever, definitely since before the time of Ao3, I just think itâs so ironic how the same people who were mad that their precious TikTok was getting banned DUE TO CENSORSHIP are also the ones advocating for censorship in other spaces
Make it make sense

Dude. Archive of Our Own literally hosts NSFW stories of real life child celebrities. Fucking RELAX with claiming moral panic.
Realll brave of you to post this anonymously
The issue of censorship is that itâs a slippery slope, and thereâs never just a BIT of censorshipâit starts out that way and then devolves to censoring everything a certain group of people disagree with, generally those who hold positions of power.
Do you know what thatâs called? Fascism.
First they censor underage explicit material on the basis that itâs immoral. Sure. Then someone else thinks writing rape is immoral, they ban that too. Then what? Thereâs people who honest to god genuinely believe being gay is immoral, and if one thing gets censored, almost everything the archive exists to protect will too.
Now obviously I agree that itâs absolutely disgusting to write explicit material of child celebrities, but censorship is never the answer.
You donât like it, just scroll past. Itâs not anyoneâs right to dictate what other people write. You curate your own experience.
