I woke up from a bad dream I had where the Trump Administration just criminalized unemployment, which was terrible news for me because I didn’t technically have a job and I was terrified of being enslaved in a prison camp, but what made it worse was that I knew every time I tried to apply for work, a gang of Nazi criminals would threaten or tell lies about me to any potential employer, so no matter what I tried, I was always set up to fail.

This dream was no accident. Doomerism is still complacency with fascism right now, and I suggest participating in any act of protest possible. whether its contacting your representatives, joining a rally, standing up against any emboldened white supremacist you find in real life etc. because right now, we need as many people as possible fighting against this. Thinking the state America is in simply just as "inevitable" regardless if it's true or not doesn't do any good for those getting hurt the most by all of this either way. Doomerism is complacency to fascism.

Fellas, am I a far left radicalised commie for thinking that we shouldn't let fascism get to the point of public executions and gas chambers before doing something about it? "Suzanne Collins gave Coriolanus Snow a tragic backstory and made him sympathetic!" So close. Actually, she put the reader in the POV of an extremely privileged character whose thoughts and views and morals still ultimately aligned with fascism, who constantly fell back on those philosophies no matter how many brief moments of humanity he felt for the Districts. She wrote a realistic human being who aligned himself with the status quo and benefited from it. She demonstrated a character who did not become kinder or more empathetic through his suffering, but instead became angrier at the indignity of it, and punished the ones he saw as "deserving" it sevenfold. She showed you, the reader, that those in power know exactly how much the oppressed suffer, and do it anyway, even if they briefly suffer the same.
