Tonight too, under the starry sky. - Episode 1

Now that I've come to this world and spent a fair amount of time with the wizards, I've been interviewing them to add new information to the Sage's manual.

Akira: (I want to interview Lennox next but where...ah)

Figaro: Hi Master Sage.

Lennox: Hello.

Akira: Good evening, Lennox, Figaro. Are you two having a drink?

Shylock: There's a certain drink I was interested in having Lennox drink, so I invited him to the bar.

Akira: Shylock.

Figaro: And I am just a curious bystander. I was curious as to what sort of drink Shylock is offering, since he went out of his way to even make an invitation. 

Shylock came out from the back of the bar, nodded to me, and offered Lennox a glass.

It was a beautiful yellow-green cocktail with snow-white fruit floating in it.

Lennox: Is this….

Figaro: What, Is it a drink with memories?

Lennox: Oh, no, this is the first time I've ever had the drink itself...

Lennox: A long time ago, when I was looking for Lord Faust and visiting the entertainment district in the Town of Nectar, Shylock recommended a cocktail to me.

Lennox: It also contains this fruit... flyberries.

Akira: ...Flyberries...

Shylock: It's a mysterious plant that travels on the wind for a long time, and when it finds the right place, it puts down roots.

Shylock: It's a fruit that's hard to find on the market, but I was lucky enough to get some this time.

Lennox: …..It's delicious.

Shylock: "A cocktail of fragrant breezes and migratory birds."

Shylock: Back then, it was a drink to pray for the success of your journey, but tonight it's a drink to celebrate the end of your journey.

Shylock: I wonder what kind of expression you'll have as you sip on this fruit cocktail after finally putting down roots after your long journey.

Lennox: ...did I live up to your expectations.

Shylock: Very. You had a calm, beautiful face.

Shylock: I'm sure that you now could heal the heart of someone you care about.

Figaro: True. Your expression has become softer than it was back then.

Lennox: ...Oh, right, Master Sage. My apologies for dragging you into my talk, but was there something you needed from us? Or would you like to come and have a drink with Shylock?

The next day. Lennox had plans to go shopping with Mitile and the others during the day, so the interview was scheduled to begin in the evening.

While waiting for Lennox to return, I finished discussing the next mission with Shylock and left the room...

Lennox: Ah... Master Sage.

Akira: Lennox! Welcome back.

When I bumped into Lennox in the hallway, he was holding a cute sheep cushion that he probably bought.

Akira: That cushion is a different color than the one in Lennox's room. Are you going to get another one?

Lennox: No, this is...

Faust: What are you guys doing in front of my room?

Akira: Faust!

Lennox: Lord Faust. Um, actually...

After hesitating for a moment, Lennox seems to find his determination and hands Faust the sheep cushion.

Lennox: I wanted to give this to you.

Faust: To me? It's a very cute cushion, but...

Lennox: It's stuffed with herbs that are good for a good night's sleep. In addition to being pleasant to the touch, it's said that using it as a pillow will help you sleep well...

Faust: …….

Akira: (...I see. Because of Faust's scar from the Calamity, he's probably on edge even when he sleeps…)

My heart warms as I sense Lennox's desire to help him feel at ease even a little.

Lennox: ...I see, just as I thought, this will ruin the atmosphere of Lord Faust's chic room.

Lennox: In that case, I'll leave it in my room, so you can use it whenever you feel like it...

Faust: I'm not so picky that I would dismiss your thoughtfulness.

Faust: This fluffy, soft and gentle texture... I'm sure it will help me sleep well. I'll try using it tonight.

We then moved to Lennox's room, where we had lots of fun talking.

Akira: ---And with this let us end the interview, thank you very much!

Lennox: Did I answer well?

Akira: Of course! I was especially interested in the story about the benches that are planned to be placed in the courtyard.

Akira: Like how there are wizards of all heights and ages, so what kind of design would make everyone feel comfortable?

Lennox: Haha, it's still in the blueprint stage, but I'll do my best to make something good.

A gentle night breeze blew through the slightly open window. Lennox looked out the window into the darkness and closed his eyes in reminiscence.

Lennox: ...It's dark outside now. I'll take you to your room.

Lennox: How about we take a walk and talk like we did back then?

(At the courtyard)

Akira: The stars are beautiful tonight...

Lennox: Yes...

Akira: Haha. Didn't we have a similar conversation before?

Lennox: …….

The silence that followed made me instinctively look up at the profile of him next to me. His eyes staring up at the deep navy blue sky seemed to reflect something that wasn't a star.

Akira: Lennox?

Lennox: Master Sage.

He turned around at the sound of my voice, faced me directly, and spoke.

Lennox: I made a promise to you here.

Lennox: "I will never scare you; I will never do anything that will make you suspect me.”

But that day on Borda Island, I hurt Shylock and everyone else.

Lennox: I'm really sorry.

Akira: No….

It's true that on Borda Island in the west, Lennox, controlled by a wizard named Balthazar, attacked us.

Akira: (But that was because Balthazar had taken over his body, so it wasn't Lennox's fault...)

Because he's a kind and honest man, it must have been stuck somewhere in his heart since that day.

Akira: (...If that's the case, then please, just like he always makes us feel safe, let me return it this time...)

Akira: --- I wasn't scared.

Lennox: ……..

Akira: Honestly, I was surprised at first, but... I realized right away that it wasn't you who was acting out.

Akira: Anybody know the normal you, will know that Lennox isn't the type of person to do something like that.

Akira: So it's okay. I wasn't scared of Lennox.

So that I could convey my feelings, so as not to hurt him. I carefully chose each word and spun out the honest thoughts in my mind.

Lennox took my hand and said, clasping it with both hands as if praying.

Lennox: ...Thank you very much, Master Sage.

Lennox: I'm glad I didn't damage my promise and the trust you had with me.

Akira: ...Lennox…

I wanted to embrace his clasped hands, his heart as well. So I placed my free hand on his.

Akira: Don't worry. The peace of mind and trust you've given us won't be shaken by anything like that.

Akira: (...so I want this magic manor to be a place of peace for this person who always gives me comfort,.)

Just like the southern country was for him. I wanted to do what I could to make that happen.

Akira: (I'll write all of these thoughts down in the Sage's manual.)

This will continue into the future as proof of our trust.

Lennox.: Thank you for taking part in the interview the other day.

Akira: It's not a continuation of what happened back then, but is there anything you can tell me because it's now?

Lennox: Well...

Lennox: ......Ah, there was one thing. Do you remember the sheep cushion in my room, Master Sage?

Akira: Of course. The one you bought when you went shopping with Mitile and the others to prepare for living at the magic manor right?

Lennox: Ever since my first interview, I've been taking good care of my cushions, like looking after a sheep.

Akira: Ooh, Is it because clean cushions feel better?

Lennox: That as well, but...

Lennox: Master Sage praised my cushions for being cute that time.

Akira: !

Lennox: I tried to keep that sheep's body in good condition so that you would come to my room again.

Akira: I see...! It makes me so happy to know that you remembered my words.

Bradley: Achoo! 

Bradley: Ugh. Finally back at the Sage’s Manor. Now I can just hop on my broom-

Cain: –Gladius Procella–!

Lennox:  –Forsiteo Mieuva–！

Bradley: Watch it! Gotta say it’s not every day I see the two of ya tryin’ to off each other. 

Cain: Bradley!! What are you doing here? 

Cain: Wait, no, back up!! We ain’t killin’ each other!! 

Lennox: I invited Cain to train with me. I thought of having a special session to practice fighting an opponent with magic under the cover of darkness. 

Lennox: We all experienced the raid that night, didn’t we? And I cannot say whether or not such a thing will happen again. Furthermore…

Cain: I was tellin’ Lennox about how we might have to fight “vampires”. 

Bradley: Huh? Vampires? 

Cain: I heard about it from the previous Sage. Far as I could tell, in his world, they were somethin’ like demons. 

Cain: They’re not good with sunlight, and attack humans in  the dark. And then, they suck the human’s blood and bleed them dry. That’s what he told me. 

Lennox: I’d never thought such terrible monsters existed in the Sage’s world…..

Lennox: That gentleman had survived until now, so surely it was a habit to be aware of such dangerous opponents and how to deal with them. Most definitely he had plans set up to ensure his survival. 

Cain: We thought to follow in his footsteps with that. 

Cain: Because…no matter what happens, I want to be able to protect everyone; the Sage as well. 

Bradley: Huh, now I gotcha. That’s the reason for this then. 

Bradley: …So, what about this??  –Adnopotensum–! 

Lennox: …Ngh.?! 

Cain:  …..Gk-! 

Cain: Bradley-why the hell are you attackin’ outta the blue…

Bradley: …..I ain’t Bradley no more. 

Cain + Lennox:  Huh? 

Bradley: Now I am…..that’s right, I’m “The Deadeye of Crimson Blood!”  That’s good enough, right? 

Bradley: Listen up, losers! This is a raid! Your enemy is at yer doorstep-if you don’t stop me here, I’m gonna paint the walls of the Manor red with blood! 

Lennox: …I understand-it is much appreciated. Does this mean you shall be joining us in our training? 

Cain: If you’re willin’ to play the role of villain, then I think it’ll all be worth it. That being the case….

Cain: Then I, “The Knight of Burning Sunlight”, shall be your opponent! 

Lennox: That’s…wait. 

Lennox: Cain, just now you…

Cain: Haha, my bad…He called himself the whole "Deadeye of Crimson Blood” thing! And it was so cool I just wanted to do it too. 

Bradley: Well then, shepherd man. You gonna play along? Give yerself a name? 

Lennox: …..I……………..

Lennox: As the. “Strong-Man Shepherd”. I will intercept you, "Deadeye of Crimson Blood". 

Cain: Yeah! That’s what I’m talkin’ about!  

Bradley: Heh, not bad, not bad. 

Lennox: Y-you think so? I feel like it was far more of a clumsy self-introduction than either of yours…

Cain: …Well, that’s that. Anyway, from now on we’re doin’ this for real-no more pullin’ our punches.  

Cain: You might be a difficult opponent but…the two of us have weathered many battlefields.

Cain: Let’s go, "Deadeye of Crimson Blood"! I will stop you, no matter the cost!!

Akira: (Faust wasn't in his room. Is he out somewhere?)

It's been a while since I started living at the magic manor.

I was going around asking everyone for interviews again, hoping to add to the contents of the sage's manual.

Faust: Sage. We're back.

Figaro: Hello, Master Sage.

Akira: Welcome back. So both of you were out?

Figaro: Yeah, we went to a store I'm familiar with.

Akira: There are all kinds of flowers in this basket. They're beautiful.

Faust: They're all rare varieties. I'm planning to use them in the next class.

Faust: For example, this blue bud is for Shino. It's a flower that is sensitive to people's gazes, and if you stare at it for five minutes, the bud will open.

Figaro: But if you look away for even a second, it won't bloom, even if you wait five minutes. It's perfect for training your patience.

Figaro: The blue flower next to it was for Heathcliff, right? It scatters pollen irregularly and makes you sleepy.

Faust: The more sensitive you are, the more sleepy you will be. I hope this will help him practice using magic to defend himself instantly.

Akira: Wow, they were chosen to suit each individual's personality. Interesting.

Akira: Then, is this bushy grass that looks like a cat toy for Nero?

Faust: Yes. We talked about this plant in detail in the last lesson. This is to make sure he actually reviewed it.

Figaro: It's like a surprise test. I'm looking forward to seeing Nero's reaction.

Faust: I wonder. He's not the type to review things frequently, but he has a good memory.

Faust: Well, if he can't do it, Heath will probably help him.

Akira: ……Huh? Now that I look closely, there's another purple flower. Who did you prepare this for?

Faust, Figaro: ………

Faust: .....It's for me.

Figaro: The student is our Faust, and the special lecturer is me, Doctor Figaro.

Akira: What! Figaro and Faust are teaching together?

Akira: No, it's nothing! …Wait, I completely forgot that I had something to ask of you Faust.

Faust: Me?

Akira: Yes. Actually, I'd like to write about you all again in the Sage's manual.

Figaro: Master Sage's re-interviewing each of us. I had a talk with them the other day.

Akira: So, would you mind giving me some of your time soon, Faust?

Faust: If that's the case, I'm free after this. If you'd like, we can talk in my room.

Faust: I was just about to buy another candle for my amulet, since I was running low on it.

Akira: Really? What a coincidence.

Faust: Lennox, why did you give this to me? 

Lennox: I thought it was about time you would need one.

Lennox: I accompanied you when you went to buy the same thing before, didn't I? It's been some time since then so…

Lennox: Besides, you've been busy lately, Lord Faust, so I thought you might not have time to go and buy it yourself...

Akira: Is that so...? As expected of Lennox, you really pay attention to the people around you.

Lennox: No, it's not that serious.
