Akira: Yes. We eat at cafes and restaurants in between work, and take photos at photogenic spots.

Akira: Figaro takes me to all kinds of places and tells me all kinds of stories, so I see, hear, and experience a lot...

Afterwards, we said goodbye to the staff and returned to the office.

We organized our belongings, took a breather, and prepared tea.

Figaro: I'm glad I was able to buy the last set of these sweets. Now this one is really the cutting edge of fashion.

Akira: Thank you. I'll take a picture and look it up online.

Figaro: Haha, we've gained some really useless wisdom.

We both sit on the sofa, joking around.

Akira: Thank you for the wonderful opportunity today. I learned a lot today.

Figaro: I'm glad I could be of help to you. Rustica also helped a lot.

Akira: Plus, right now learning from Figaro at this office, it's so fun and I'm so happy.

Figaro: ......Yeah, I know.

Wine and grape juice are poured into two glasses placed side by side.

We gently hit the glasses together for a toast, and Figaro takes a sip of wine.

Figaro: But... if you stay by my side, I might eventually paint the brand new you in whatever color I want you know.

AKIRA: (I never thought my magazine gig would wrap up earlier than scheduled. Maybe I’ll make a stop somewhere before going home.)

While walking near the train station, the entrance of a large-scale bookstore catches my eye.

AKIRA: (Oh hey, it’s the latest issue of the entertainment magazine that hosted the interview session I just sat in. I think I’ll buy a copy for myself.)

...What's this? Sweetheart of the Year: Actor Edition?

(I didn’t know this was a thing. Hmm, and the actor who has held the title for five years running is–)

LENNOX: Good morning, Akira.

AKIRA: ?!

I hurriedly pressed my hands against my lips to keep a yelp from escaping.

Right in front of me stood Lennox, the very five-year title holder featured in the readers’ choice poll I was just browsing.

AKIRA: G-Good morning, Lennox.

LENNOX: I'm sorry. I didn’t mean to startle you.

You see, I was on my way to work when I spotted you here. I thought I should at least say hi.

AKIRA: Wow, thanks. You really didn’t have to. 

…Does that mean you walked all the way here?

LENNOX: That's right. The filming location today happens to be within walking distance from our agency, so it made sense to save the production team from picking up my taxi fare. Plus, I figured I wouldn’t bother anyone in the area by making the trip by foot.

???: Considerate and down-to-earth, are we, Lennox Ram? If there’s a secret to your popularity, that must be it.

AKIRA: !

I hear a voice exuding a rugged allure coming from somewhere. Suddenly, a huge, bony hand slides down in front of me and snatches the magazine in my hands, passing it above my head.

AKIRA: Bradley, it’s you! 

Nice work today. I haven’t seen you since this morning.

BRADLEY: Thanks, right back at you.

Lennox and I are filming together for a drama series. I spotted you two on my ride to work, so I got out of the taxi…

Bradley looks at me and the magazine alternately, then he breaks into a mischievous smirk.

LENNOX: Poll?

AKIRA: Wait, please hear me out. I only picked it up because I saw Lennox…!

AKIRA: Holding the title for five years running is such a feat. And it’s not just Lennox–you’ve been voted second for five consecutive years yourself, Bradley.

LENNOX: He has, and I can see why so many people want to be in a relationship with him. Bradley has captured the hearts of his fans, men and women alike, with his alluring and refined performance.

BRADLEY: Ha! Speak for yourself. Remind me–who was it that received a fan letter from a five-year-old young lady?

AKIRA: A five-year-old young lady? 

LENNOX: Oh, he must be talking about the girl who submitted a letter to my radio program under the pseudonym Little Miss Mika.

BRADLEY: Lennox’s fan base is diverse on a whole other level. Let me tell you, this guy here is the epitome of “popular among all demographics”.

Talk about a homme fatale, am I right? You almost forget playing villains is his claim to fame.

AKIRA: Come to think of it… Lennox did mention that villain roles are his forte when he introduced himself.

BRADLEY: You don’t look entirely convinced.

A few hours had passed since we left the bookstore. As Bradley’s junior from the same agency, I was given permission to visit and observe their drama shoot.

According to Bradley's advice, the chance to watch Lennox perform the role of a bad guy is not one to be missed, especially for an aspiring actor like me.

AKIRA: (Today's filming location is at a lobby of a luxury hotel... Gosh, securing a reservation of this venue couldn't have been easy.)

I felt jittery as I did a quick check of today’s scheduled scenes using a copy of the script that Bradley lent me.

AKIRA: (In this show, Lennox plays the role of a capable young CEO and heir to a major conglomerate.

His gentle and friendly character has earned the deep trust of the people around him, but there’s a catch… Unbeknownst to everyone, he gets involved with the underworld of politics all for the sake of achieving his ambition?!

This particular scene portrays the confrontation between the CEO and the secretary who is in love with him. I wonder what kind of performance Lennox will give…) 

DIRECTOR: Filming starts in three, two, one… Action!

SECRETARY: You must be tired from the party, sir. I’ve already called a driver to pick you up. Please get some rest in the meantime.

CEO: Appreciate it.

Phew. What could be more comforting than seeing a familiar face after a nerve-racking discussion with politicians, huh?

SECRETARY: Is that so, sir? If you’d like, I can pour you a cup of coffee to help you unwind...

...at my place.

CEO: Haha! You, cracking a joke? That’s a first.

As tempting an offer as that may be, I’m afraid I have a dinner scheduled in Shibuya right after this.

SECRETARY: Not to worry, sir. I’ve canceled your next appointment.

CEO: …

What are you trying to pull here?

SECRETARY: I’ve been meaning to have a private conversation with you.

The secretary’s hands were trembling slightly. She is close to uncovering the hidden side of the CEO she respects.

Lennox's crimson irises catch a brief glimpse of her trembling.

CEO: …I see.

The CEO’s huge hand pats the head of the woman in front of him once.

CEO: I’ve always considered you a dear secretary of mine. Unfortunately… All good things must come to an end

SECRETARY: I-I…

The secretary tries to reply but she chokes on her own words.

When she looked up at the CEO, she was met by his crimson eyes reflecting a whirlpool of emotions–sorrow, insanity, and yearning.

SECRETARY: I beg your pardon...!

CEO: …

MYSTERIOUS MAN: Ahem. Am I good to assume you two are done talking here?

CEO: You are…

The man places a hand on Lennox’s shoulder and flashes a smile–the sort that knows of both the reputable and criminal sides of society.

Then, he whispers into the CEO’s ear in a threatening, low voice: 

MYSTERIOUS MAN: Don't let your emotions get in the way.

CEO: …I don’t need you to remind me.

*pause*

Lennox quietly looks up at the night sky. Beyond his gaze lies the great full moon.

Although it only lasted for a few minutes, seconds even, it felt like a depressing length of time nonetheless. 

DIRECTOR: Cut!

AKIRA: !

(...Oh! Wow, that literally took my breath away…)

I look at Lennox with eyes filled with inspiration and awe. When noticed my gaze, he reassumed his signature modest smile.

LENNOX: Thank you for your time. If you’ll excuse me.

AKIRA: Hello again, Lennox. You were great out there.

LENNOX: Akira, hi. I thought you’d already left.

AKIRA: Well, Bradley taught me that manners go a long way in this industry, so I couldn’t just leave without saying goodbye.

But even without his reminder, I stayed around because I wanted to thank you. I learned so much from watching you perform live!

LENNOX: Haha! Vollmond Productions never fails to impress with their courtesy.

Our filming is far from over, and I’m sure Bradley and I will share a few more scenes together. If you have the chance, you’re more than welcome to visit the set and observe.

LENNOX: Given the chance, a shepherd.

AKIRA: Huh? A shepherd?

LENNOX: You heard it right. Recently, I’ve been spending my days off at a nearby ranch… I just feel relaxed when I’m there, as if I’m reconnecting with my true self.

So I’d like to try out roles in which I can harness the aspects of myself that only I know of.

I noticed a twinkle in Lennox's eyes.

For some reason, I could easily picture him smiling as a flock of sheep surrounds him in a vast grassland.

AKIRA: I think it’s the perfect role for you!

I cheered, then shared a laugh with Lennox, the actor who belongs where the warm southern breeze blows.
