The Importance of Self-Care for Leaders: Strategies for Managing Stress
It's no secret that being a leader comes with a lot of workload and hustling, but with the right approach and mindset, you can overcome any obstacle and lead your team to greatness. You're responsible for managing teams, making tough decisions, and ensuring that your organization is successful. With so much going on, it can be easy to neglect your own needs, including your mental and physical health. However, self-care is crucial for leaders, as it can help you manage stress, prevent burnout, and ultimately perform better in your role.
Why is Self-Care Important for Leaders?
Stress is an inevitable part of leadership. Whether you're dealing with a difficult employee, a tight deadline, or a financial setback, there will be times when you feel overwhelmed and stressed out. However, if you don't take care of yourself, this stress can build up and lead to burnout, a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion that can leave you feeling depleted and unable to perform your duties effectively.
Self-care can help you manage stress and prevent burnout by giving you the tools and strategies you need to take care of your physical, emotional, and mental health. When you prioritize self-care, you'll have more energy, focus, and resilience, which can help you perform better in your role and lead your team more effectively.
What are Some Self-Care Strategies for Leaders?
Self-care looks different for everyone, but here are some strategies that can help you manage stress and prioritize your well-being as a leader:
Tumblr media
1. Prioritize Sleep: Make Sleep a Priority: Ensuring you get sufficient sleep is essential for both your physical and mental well-being. Target a sleep cycle of 7-8 hours a night, and establish a consistent sleep routine for your mind to relax.
2. Exercise- Regular part of your routine: Regular exercise can help you manage stress, improve your mood, and boost your energy levels. Find an activity that you enjoy, whether it's running, yoga, or weightlifting, and schedule it into your calendar as you would any other important appointment.
3. Mindfulness Habit: Mindfulness practices like meditation, deep breathing, and yoga can help you manage stress and cultivate a sense of calm and focus. Try to make this your daily routine, whether it's a 10-minute meditation session in the morning or a yoga class after work.
4. Take Breaks: It can be tempting to power through your workday without taking breaks, but this can actually lead to decreased productivity and increased stress. Take regular breaks throughout the day to stretch, walk, or simply step away from your computer and recharge. Arianna Huffington, founder of Thrive Global, takes breaks throughout the day to meditate, nap, or simply disconnect from technology and recharge.
5. Connect with Others: You may feel solitary at various times. However, connecting with others can help you manage stress and feel supported. Take out the time for socializing with friends and family, or consider joining a professional networking group or mentorship program.  Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, has spoken openly about the importance of connecting with others and seeking support during difficult times.
Wrapping up with the fact that self-care is crucial for leaders, as it can help you manage stress, prevent burnout, and ultimately perform better in your role. By prioritizing your physical, emotional, and mental health, you'll be better equipped to lead your team and achieve your goals. So, take a deep breath, and remember to prioritize yourself along with your organization's success.

Back from my birthday hiatus, and um, wow... was not expecting this kind of overwhelmingly positive reaction to a simple QRT about how we used Dissolve Mode in our BG paintings on Carol and the End of the World (see last image) - since people seemed to have enjoyed that so much, I thought I'd put all the pages of the Carol and the End of the World BG Paint style guide I drafted in one post! TBH I'd been meaning to do this for awhile but kept forgetting since I have it in a different folder than the BG paintings themselves... I believe all the paintings are mine and all the designs are by Alex Myung unless otherwise noted. I wrote this pretty early on pre-vis, so some of these guidelines got a little massaged during production, but the broad strokes are definitely still there! This wasn't the only style guide on the show BTW! A couple of our other leads Alex Myung and Kal Athannassov also put together a BG and Character Design style guide that are super cool - unfortunately I don't have the files myself (nor would I feel comfortable posting work that's not mine) nor do I think they've posted them yet, so if you two were looking for a sign to do so, this is it!! Now you have everything you need to paint like a Caroler - thanks for looking!! Showrunner: @dan-guterman Art direction: @ellemichalka

laios and kabru being very explicit narrative and character foils of each other means you're primed to expect some extent of honesty and candor from laios at every turn throughout, even if it's to negative effect, while your impression of kabru means you expect his every action and word to bely ulterior motive or manipulation, even if it's out of good intentions. and how thoroughly this is subverted in the end, when kabru is forced by pressure and circumstance into painfully, awkwardly honest confession and conduct, forced to stand back and spectate instead of trying to pull strings and control. and laios rises up out of nowhere with an underhanded scheme so shocking and thorough it tricks everyone, and suspends them into inaction and speechless disbelief, clearing his path to the throne. i just think it's neat how they're foils and opposites until they embody each other's core traits at some of their most pivotal developmental moments

local author is absolutely obsessed with raph and leo's relationship following the end of season 2 and is making it everyone's problem, more at 11!
#theyre so fascinating to me#let me pull up my notes on them so i can ramble like a crazy person in the tags#heres the thing. raph is the eldest sibling. its his job to keep his little brothers safe#and hes been the leader their whole lives. like they were clearly allowed to do whatever they wanted with little parental supervision#so it would be the most obvious and natural choice for the oldest to be the leader#and like clearly the others are on board (at least during canon events)#and leos the most supportive of raph and his leadership out of all of them. constantly hyping him up. even calling on mind raph#because leo trusts raphs judgement (more than his own id go so far as to say tbh)#(i genuinely believe that leo has always looked up to raph since they were very young.)#so i think leo would see him being promoted to leader as undeserved. unearned. it belongs to raph because hes always been there for them.#(~impostor syndrome babey)#meanwhile raph is struggling to find where he belongs on the team now that hes not the leader#i think raph would have liked to have someone guide him through being leader because its HARD!!! ur choices can and WILL have consequences#so hes trying to be that for leo. he tries to be there the way no one was there so that leo doesnt struggle the way raph did#and also its a good way to ignore having to process how HE feels about the demotion#bc it was so unexpected there would obviously be feelings of guilt and self-doubt and 'was i good enough'#and obviously raph isnt going to tell his brothers how hes struggling to find his place on the team now#because hes the oldest and the oldest sibling is the shoulder to lean on. not there to dump their insecurities on their little siblings#the problem is that leo isnt raph#and raph is so focused on helping leo and not dealing with his own stuff that he forgets that.#i think raph sees himself as the leader of the team and the smashy guy. the powerhouse#(i say that with the belief that raph is the HEART of the team btw. only he doesnt know that lmao)#leo himself is also projecting a little onto raph. like i really do believe he thinks raph hates him for 'stealing' his role#(its bullshit but like. brains are dumb sometimes so)#leo seeks out validation but ESPECIALLY raph's validation (like donnie tbh)#to leo a leader is someone you can count on. and he doesnt see himself as reliable#rottmnt#ataimw#rottmnt raph#rottmnt leo

Pagan Book Review
This feels like the book version of "this meeting could have been an email"
Tumblr media
If you're already seriously considering becoming a clergy member, save your money. This doesn't read like something created for intermediate to advanced practioners, it reads like a book for newbies (which I highly doubt are seriously considering priesthood already). Nothing I read was illuminating in any capacity. Additionally it feels like a forced justification for why the author has "every right" to charge for their educational services (I'm guessing they get a lot of push back for this) and many times I felt like I was reading an elaborate advertisement for said services.
Not to even mention an odd section where the author is discussing ritual practices, in the most surface possible terms (but if you want to learn more be sure to join their X class!), and begins referencing what is very clearly a specific event that happened with what I assume to be their inner circle without any further context. This is honestly baffling and probably should have been removed in editing, I believe the intent was to be funny, but why reference an inside joke that your audience is not on the inside of? Who was this supposed to be written for?
After the sections I think of as introductory sections there are some generic "how good of a leader are you?" and "why do you really want to do this?" self assessment bits followed by a anecdotal story about how hoity-toity someone was with the author, which I found personally amusing since passages the author was attributing to this, obviously not cut out to be a public servant person, sounded to me like the author could have said them themselves. Particularly,
"lots of quite ironic commentary about how disrespectful I was being to someone of her status, and a mind-blowingly arrogant assumption that she was blessing/gifting me with “a teaching moment” in her response."
Ironic indeed, in my opinion.
This is then followed with several sections that are again highly generic and you would most likely be better off picking up a self-help book on group dynamics and or leadership skills. Followed by a very uneventful section on teaching and crisis care, but again I would recommend getting books focused on these things if thats what you're interested in. Go straight to the horses mouth, sorta speak.
The last section is about the Sacerdotal skills, but again feels like an elongated advertisement for the authors services (with sprinklings of why they're definitely not in it for the money because they could really be charging for things they kindly choose not to) and feels like its written for beginning pagans which, as I said, I highly doubt are already looking into the idea of joining their respective practices clergy. If you are seriously considering joining the clergy I can almost guarentee you've already explored these concepts and self reflections.
Anyway, seriously, save your money.

Why Worship Leaders Should Prioritize Daily Bible Reading
As worship leaders, we carry the incredible responsibility of guiding others into the presence of God. We lead songs that declare His truth, invite His Spirit, and proclaim His goodness. But if we’re not regularly filling ourselves with God’s Word, our ministry can quickly become shallow, our hearts distracted, and our leadership misaligned with His purpose. Daily Bible reading isn’t just a…
