“Break into Grimmauld, are you mad?! All the gold in the Black family vault couldn’t get me back in that hellhole. No way!” Sirius huffed, crossing his arms over his chest. 

“I need that locket,” Regulus spat out through gritted teeth. 

“Wait, you want me to risk my neck for a piece of jewellery? Don’t you have enough on with your rings?” Sirius asked incredulously, pointing at Regulus’s hands, adorned with silver rings. “Best transfigure those as well. I can smell them a mile away.” Sirius grimaced, screwing up his face. 

“That locket is Salazar Slytherin’s locket,” Regulus pressed the subject. 

“So?” Sirius rolled his eyes. 

“I stole it from the Dark Lord, and what do you mean you can smell my rings?” Regulus screwed up his face in a mirror copy of his brothers. 

“Werewolf remember. We don’t like silver,” Sirius sighed exasperatedly. “Honestly, didn’t you listen in Defence against the Dark Arts?” Regulus looked down at his hands. 

“Oh,” He said quietly. 

A wand reached over and tapped his rings one by one. They shimmered and turned to a different type of metal, heavier. He was so taken aback by the audacity of someone performing a spell on him without his permission that he hissed in a breath when he turned and realised it was Potter. 

“They’re steel now, but you can turn them back to silver, it’s not permanent.” James grinned down at him. Regulus glowered at him and took a few steps away.

“That locket could be the key to defeating the Dark Lord. We need it.” He reiterated. 

“Why not send Rorbey then?” Sirius said, trying to come up with an alternative. 

“He's never been to Grimmauld Place and if he’s caught people will ask too many questions.”

“Oh and if I’m caught they won’t?” Sirius scoffed. 

“Fine, Rorbey’s more valuable than you are. If they catch him, it could mean death for us all. If you’re caught they’ll probably just kill you.” Regulus explained a bit more harshly than was probably necessary. But he hadn’t been able to snipe at another being for month's and Sirius was so easy to wind up. “We need that locket, Sirius, there’s no other way.” He sighed and walked away from the small group, back towards the tree line he needed a moment to plan out the mission. He hadn’t gotten far when he heard the sound of boots coming towards him. He expected Sirius, following him, to moan a bit more. He did not expect his pursuer to be James Potter.

-Remus on Christmas Day, alone in his flat, tears on his face as he lays on the floor curled in on himself. Repeating apologies over and over again.

Lily James and Peter are dead. Sirius a traitor locked away in Azkaban.

He’s alone now. It’s stupid really he should have expected it, someone like him was hardly allowed to be happy for a lifetime. Why would he be destined for anything but grief and the aching hollow of loneliness?

Remus is standing there in the common room, a still full butterbeer in his hand when he turns to face Lily, dumbfounded for a moment before he furrows his brow in irritation. He strongly disagrees. They should absolutely do nothing of the sort, but already he can see in his other friends' faces that the idea is gathering steam. Sirius and Peter look ecstatic at the suggestion and Remus would like to curse all of them into oblivion. Ironically, he feels like a sacrificial lamb being offered up to a hungry wolf.

"What's the matter, Lu?" @heartsdefine asks, appearing beside him, a nearly empty drink in one hand, her other trailing teasingly over his back and shoulder as she moves in front of him. Her eyes lift to the ceiling where a sprig of mistletoe hangs before she looks at him and shrugs. "Since you're such a stickler for the rules," she says not hiding her sarcasm in the least. The only person he's ever put any real effort to enforcing school rules on as Prefect has been her, which they are both well aware of.

"Everything going on right now is against the rules." It's well past curfew and she's not even supposed to be here at all.

Wynonna laughs, toying with the tie he's still wearing, despite the fact this is supposed to be a party and he's supposed to be relaxing, one last celebration until everyone leaves for the holidays. "Oh, come on, don't you know how to have any fun?" Her blue eyes meet his with a knowing look. They had a little fun once before, but she'd been the one to initiate it...now it's his turn.

There's a few murmurs from the onlookers but Remus only hears one voice, Sirius, saying if Remus doesn't, he will. Wynonna looks over her shoulder, laughing, grinning and before he knows it, he's moving. His hand reaches out, taking her face in his hand to turn her back to face him. He barely registers the hint of surprise on her features before he pulls her closer, kissing her, a real kiss, a proper kiss, no mere peck. He doesn't even hear the hoots and hollers from the others anymore.
