Cabin Fever (2016)
In today's review, I find some viruses never go out of fashion. As I attempt a #positive review of the 2016's Cabin Fever #SamuelDavis #GageGolightly #MatthewDaddario #NadineCrocker #DustinIngram #RandySchulman #GeorgeGriffith #DerrickRMeans #LouiseLinton
There was a time when the world didn’t feel as (for lack of a better term) wild as it does now. Sure, those days are long behind us now, and some may doubt there ever was a period of calm. In 2016, over 14 years after Eli Roth’s directorial debut, he’s back producing a remake of the odd virus story that became a cult classic, a tale of Cabin Fever. The cabin has had a facelift, but the story…

FIND THE WORD TAG
I was tagged by the lovely @veetlegeuse to do this, thank you so much! I had to really look through a lot of documents, the forever curse of starting a bunch of stuff and not finishing it lol
rules: search your WIPs and post a snippet with the words given to you.
Words given to me: sunlight, home, hand, cry, lovely
Sunlight - Connie Cunningham (Save a Prayer - Unnamed new chapter - Stranger Things)
As the sunlight began creeping up in the sky, Connie found herself wishing and hoping that things would work out. That her new friends would have a plan.
Home - Kenny Keller (Kevin Keller Sibling Prologue - Riverdale)
Kenny took another drag off her cigarette, looking up at her old home in contempt. She hadn't wanted to return to Riverdale, living at the boarding school had actually been quite fun. The teachers weren't always the sharpest. As long as you weren't doing anything against the rules right in front of them you could pretty much do whatever the hell you wanted.
Hand - Celeste Morris (A Sky Full of Stars Prologue - Glee)
She tried to speed up her walk, hoping to evade the other girl, same as she had been for weeks. But Rachel was nothing if not determined, and before Celeste's hand could even wander towards the bathroom door, Rachel's clasped over the other girls shoulder.
Cry - Edens Well Prologue (Original Story)
He had raised his head again, giving her an angry look. “You weren’t supposed to come here. You messed up our lives. We were happy!” he yelled, before storming at her with a switchblade. He sliced across her bare thigh, causing her to cry out in pain.
Lovely - Carmen Bauman x Jonathan Byers (The Lost and The Found - Unnamed new chapter - Stranger Things)
"That's a lovely picture," she told him, pointing at his bureau.
Jonathan looked over at the image of his mother and Will, cheesing into the camera in front of Castle Byers. They hadn't had a lot of happy moments in recent memory but Jonathan always tried to shield Will away from their family's woes.
"Thanks. I took that," he waved his hand around, trying to remember when exactly it was taken. "A couple of months back. It was during summer break."
"You took that?" Carmen asked, a hint of surprise in her voice.
New words: music, cursed, flower, gently, breath
TAGGING GENTLY JUST IF YOU WANT TO: @luucypevensie @oneirataxia-girl @dancingwith-sunflowers @come-along-pond @daughter-of-melpomene @megandaisy9 @andromedalestrange and anyone else who may want to do it!!

19 year old Siouxsie Sioux at her first ever gig at the 100 Club Punk Special on September 20th 1976. photo taken by Barry Plumber
Siouxsie formed her band The Banshees (at the time consisting of Steve Severin, Sid Vicious, and Marco Pirroni) only a few days before the 100 Club Punk Special after being told by Malcolm McLaren that there was a need for one more band
There was a vacant space for a group, and it was being discussed at Louise’s. Perhaps someone had pulled out. Malcolm was saying, ‘We need another band’, and I volunteered. ‘We’ve got a band.’ And we hadn’t, we spent the night trying to find a band. - Siouxsie Sioux, The England's Dreaming Tapes
since The Banshees had no songs of their own, their set consisted of a 20 minute improvisation based on the Lord's Prayer and a few covers of 'uncool' songs just to infuriate the audience
It was taking the piss out of all the things we hated. Whether Marco put it in for whatever reason, and me wailing over the top of it, not singing the lyrics but singing ‘Knocking on Heaven’s Door’ to ‘Smoke on the Water’ and ‘The Lord’s Prayer’, and Steve trying to find how to turn his bass on, or something. And Sid with this bull-dozer rhythm, relentless banging. [...] We expected to be stopped by outside forces. We didn’t envisage being able to get away with it, really. One of the songs was ‘She Loves You’, and also ‘Young Love’ by the Bay City Rollers. What song do you really hate? What would you like to throw in as a shock tactic? What can we mutilate and destroy? It was all our least favourite things. - Siouxsie Sioux, The England's Dreaming Tapes
The Banshees were meant to split up after the gig but they were asked to play more so Siouxsie and Severin decided to commit to being musicians and asked Kenny Morris and Peter Fenton to come aboard. the rest is punk/goth history!

@mashumaru I hope you don't mind me answering your question here? There was no way this was fitting in the comments section. 😅 So these are what I'd call more Sunday afternoon murder mysteries then gritty crime dramas, as that's what I'm mainly watching at the mo. But if you'd like some darker recs, just let me know.
Anywho...
Midsomer Murders
The ultimate Sunday afternoon watch. Murder most foul, represented artistically in the form of a cream tea. Starring Inspector Barnaby(s), the most teddy bear men ever to exist. Every episode will include chocolate box village eye porn. Murder weapons have included but are not limited to: a cheese wheel, drowned in chocolate, a headless horseman and a steampunk werewolf. It sounds ridiculous but once you start, you won't be able to stop. I promsie you. The horrors: 0/10, though may leave you with a life long phobia of morris dancers and village fetes.
The Morseverse (Endeavour/Inspector Morse and Lewis)
Ah Morseverse, my beloved. The English academic elite does crime. Oxford is it's own splendorous character, with every episode crammed full of towering libraries, awe inspiring architecture and fanatically manicured, college quads. A must watch for those whose hearts belong to dark academia. Endeavour and Morse are set in the 60s/70s and 80s/90s respectively. And follow the same character, Endeavour Morse, from brilliant, blue eyed, troubled twink to brilliant, blue eyed, grumpy old man with a definite alcohol problem. (Never play drink along with Morse, it's a surefire way to get alcohol poisoning.) The baton is then passed to his sergeant, Robert Lewis in Lewis, set in the relative present (as of this post). The relationship between Inspector and Sergeant is what ultimately makes these series, be it Fred Thursday and Morse, Morse and Lewis and Lewis and James Hathaway. And you'll come to treasure them. Be prepared to leave these series with a well earned fictional degree in classical music. Murders CAN and WILL be based on obscure, literary references. The horrors: Well it depends.... I'd say Endeavour is the darkest, Lewis is the lightest with Morse settled nicely in between. If you finish this series not wanting a Jaguar Mark II, you did it wrong.
Vera
Vera Stanhope, my northumbrian queen, my geordie goddess. A middle aged plus woman, with no makeup (or two f*cks to rubs together) decked in a brown hat and mac and driving the world most beaten up land rover.... Owns everyone. And it is sooo satisfying to watch. The scenic southern eye candy of the two previous recs is replaced with the wild, isolated landscapes of the North, very much reflecting our DI. She's joined by sergeant dark and dishy and the ever more put up Kenny Lockhart, as well as host of others. But what really makes this series is Vera herself. As equally formidable as she is kind hearted, with no hint of glamour. She's the kind of female representation we both need and deserve. The horrors: Vera passive aggressively calling vicious murderers 'pet' fixes all world problems. It's scientifically proven.
Things you may have heard of:
Sherlock Holmes, the Granada edition starring Jeremy Brett. No finer Sherlock has ever graced our screens to this day (And yes, I will stand and fight for that statement.) One of the most loyal adaptations of the books ever made.
Poirot, staring David Suchet. No offence to Kenneth Branagh (Your Henry V got me through high-school English lit sir). But David Suchet is THE Prirot for me. Another loyal book adaptation. Over a 25 year period Suchet lived and breathed Poirot and it shows.
If anyone's got any other recommendations please feel free to add them on. I know I've missed a ton! Anywho, I hope that helps me dear. 😁

Whenever you feel alone, just remember that those kings will always be there to guide you. And so will I.
Born to a turbulent family on a Mississippi farm, James Earl Jones passed away today. He was ninety-three years old. Abandoned by his parents as a child and raised by a racist grandmother (although he later reconciled with his actor father and performed alongside him as an adult), the trauma of his childhood developed into a stutter that followed him through his primary school years – sometimes, his stutter was so debilitating, he could not speak at all. In high school, Jones found in an English teacher someone who found in him a talent for written expression, and encouraged him to write and recite poetry in class. He overcame his stutter by graduation, although the effects of it carried over for the remainder of his life.
Jones' most accomplished roles may have been on the Broadway stage, where he won three Tonys (twice winning Best Actor in a Play for originating the lead roles in 1969's The Great White Hope by Howard Sackler and 1987's Fences by August Wilson) and was considered one of the best Shakespearean actors of his time.
But his contributions to cinema left an impact on audiences, too. Jones received an Honorary Academy Award alongside makeup artist Dick Smith (1972's The Godfather, 1984's Amadeus) in 2011. From the end of Hollywood's Golden Age to the dawn of the summer Hollywood blockbuster in the 1970s to the present, Jones' presence – and his basso profundo voice – could scarcely be ignored. Though he could not sing like Paul Robeson nor had the looks of Sidney Poitier, his presence and command put him in league of both of his acting predecessors.
Ten of the films James Earl Jones appeared in, whether in-person or voice acting, follow (left-right, descending):
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) – directed by Stanley Kubrick; also starring Peter Sellers, George C. Scott, Sterling Hayden, Keenan Wynn, and Slim Pickens
The Great White Hope (1970) – directed by Martin Ritt; also starring Jane Alexander, Chester Morris, Hal Holbrook Beah Richards, and Moses Gunn
Star Wars saga (1977-2019; A New Hope pictured) – multiple directors, as the voice of Darth Vader, also starring Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Cushing, Alec Guinness, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels, David Prowse, Kenny Baker, Peter Mayhew, and Frank Oz
Claudine (1974) – directed by John Berry; also starring Diahann Carroll, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, and Tamu Blackwell
Conan the Barbarian (1982) – directed by John Milius; also starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sandahl Bergman, Ben Davidson, Cassandra Gaviola, Gerry Lopez, Mako, Valerie Quennessen, William Smith, and Max von Sydow
Coming to America series (1988 and 2021; original pictured) – multiple directors; also starring Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, John Amos, Madge Sinclair, Shari Headley, Jermaine Fowler, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, and KiKi Layne
The Hunt for Red October (1990) – directed by John McTiernan; also starring Sean Connery, Alec Baldwin, Scott Glenn, and Sam Neill
The Sandlot (1993) – directed by David Mickey Evans; also staring Tom Guiry, Mike Vitar, Patrick Renna, Chauncey Leopardi, Marty York, Brandon Adams, Grant Gelt, Shane Obedzinski, Victor DiMattia, Denis Leary, and Karen Allen
The Lion King (1994) – directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff, as the voice of Mufasa; also starring Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Matthew Broderick, Jeremy Irons, Moira Kelly, Niketa Calame, Ernie Sabella, Nathan Lane, and Robert Guillaume, Rowan Atkinson, Whoopi Goldberg, Cheech Marin, Jim Cummings, and Madge Sinclair
Field of Dreams (1989) – directed by Phil Alden Robinson; also starring Kevin Costner, Amy Madigan, Ray Liotta, and Burt Lancaster
