Sys culture is only just discovering your a system and trying to explain to those around you whilst:

1. Not fully understanding yourself

2. Kinda thinking your faking it despite being fully aware there are others up there with you

In my mind joel is more open about it than gem is. he has decent communication between the mezalean king and traffic wolf joel and will usually recognize when he switches & moderately habitual, and even when he does there’s little conflict aside from staying co con. gem has an inkling she’s a sys but has never officially declared it to herself, in that regard her system communication is very blurry and limited. switches for her are always in retrospect and can be distressing and feel very abrupt. when its not, its usually just triggered in a manner thats covert to her with a lingering thought of “i don’t know who i am but i think i know what i need to do to be that person”

sys gem is not even a fucking question. Empires and dredge gem are so distinct in their own rights. E2 Gem cannot handle or gets uncomfortable with sincere sadness. She didn’t understand when people were genuinely sad to see her go at the end of her finale, or why her explanation of “this was just a role i was playing” was confusing/upsetting to the others. I think she originally stemmed for that reason and thats why it became so core to her beliefs. and why being confronted with multifaceted expectations (a personal connection with each empires member and empathizing with their memories of her) is something she doesn’t feel like she is responsible for. she’s here to be a princess (by her definitions and goals) and telling them goodbye was one of her personal duties because it just felt like it was. it feels like hermit gem co-con encouraged her to do so because it felt right and e2gem obliged despite not understanding the deeper connotations of it.
