when i last saw my friends i was talking about my barbie collection, present and past, and explaining the lore of various supporting characters from the decades, and at one point i bothered to drop the sentence "because i was obsessed with barbie as a kid—" before catching myself, realizing i was explaining the entire web of barbie's friends and family, and said "now i'm just normal about her. the way i am about barbie, that's how everybody is."

There's quite a bit of them, too, but it's really amazing to see how much thought they put into these moments before it hit the finalization stage and the cutting room floor.

im sorry is there any straight explanation to spocks character arc in the motion picture??? or am i missing something???? he mindmelts with the machine and- as hes clinging onto kirks arm- tells him how v'ger is just a cold logical machine and it'll never understand this simple feeling (what simple feeling spock. wHATSIMPLE FEELING.) (spock has just come back from the ritual which purges vulcans of all emotion, making them only logical beings). hes so overwhelmed by this realization (hes JUST about to cry. ive never seen him teary-eyed im unwell) that at the end of the movie he decides to forego kolinahr completely. oh and this insane arc and life changing decisions are never really verbally adressed btw.

now that my friend pointed it out i cant stop thinking about the design of the tardis in the tv movie because 1) it was gorgeous but 2) that was a home. that was his home. he had a chair to lounge in and a record player. seeing the tardis in the tv show, that one huge console room, bigger on the inside and yeah, it’s impressive but it’s functional. (i’m assuming this is a budget thing, because it would probably be extremely impractical to have the kind of set they put together for the tv movie for every episode of an actual show lmao.)

there’s just something so. i think it’s the first time i’ve really looked at the doctor in the tardis and thought, right, he lives in there. rather than it just being his car. it is very funny to think of the doctor as a guy living out of his shitty van, but no, the tardis can be a home. it can be warm and comfy and full of knick-knacks.
