I’m aware I have the easy side of it being light skinned but it does never cease to amaze me how stunned people are that there is a huge variety and diversity of looks in South Asia like that is the most populous area of the world and probably the most genetically diverse there are people who look any way you can possibly think of there and yet white people think they have a copyright on having blue eyes
#can’t even imagine the shit East Indians or black south Asians have to hear#an East Indian guy worked at the Indian store I used to frequent and he told me he constantly has people pretending they don’t understand#his hindi

my go to sewing project whenever i want to make something but don't want to think about it is to make a huge box dress i love to sleep in/wear around the house i don't even need a pattern for it i can draft it straight onto the fabric and sew it with a needle and thread while lying in bed. long slits from the knee down so i can move around comfortably. they're my comfort clothes + they are esp so comfy when i'm in m'sia with the heat& humidity. but even in canada i wear them always i just add a sweater
#i make them out of indian cotton block printed bedspreads i get from the thrift store#i find a lot of those locally bc most ppl in my area are south asian lol

the amount of effort that goes into figuring out what to cook and eat every day is RIDICULOUS. i used to think people were so weird and boring for eating the same thing every single day but it truly does make life so much easier
#and also it's nice to know exactly what your food is going to taste like before you eat it#like when i get unfamiliar takeout. half the time i'm like. oh.#i'm going to have to eat all of this. or be judged.#so i just do my best to suppress my gag reflex and Get Through It and then it makes me sick so what was even the point#i think my parents spoiled me. and the most annoying thing is they're significantly better at cooking now than when i was a child#so when i go over i eat three delicious home cooked meals + snacks and they're all different and amazingggg#and then i come back to texas and i am like. googling 'how to feed myself healthy vegetarian'#because I do NOT have the time or money or energy to cook three beautiful delicious meals Just For Me#i think this would be easier with a partner#this whole week i bought a fuckton of mediterranean groceries and i have been making and eating food!!#mediterranean is close enough to indian that i like it well enough#unfortunately for me. i am def going to have to learn how to cook indian food to get through life. because i cannot fucking eat american#i don't know HOW you guys do it i'm so spoiled#i'm assuming meat is this really amazing wonderful thing that just adds flavor to everything#(it is physically repulsive to me and the couple times ive accidentally tasted it it's bleh so i refuse to partake)#i think it's an acquired taste but it magically makes ur food better. that is my understanding of how meat works#cause american vegetarian food is the saddest fucking thing i've ever tasted#i still think about my coworker i was talking to about my food issues and he was like. 'do u understand that you have been given a gift#by having constant access to tasty food your entire life. i ate unseasoned green beans every day of my childhood. learn how to fucking cook#indian food already.' truly a horrific thing to hear. but i'm calling my parents more and going HOW TO COOK VEGETABLE? BEAN? PLEASE HELP??#and by god i am not going to turn into my coworker.#anyways we start with baby steps. lentils and rice it is next week .-. going to the indian store to buy pickles to make it more tolerable#and i have my cabinet full of spices already at least#i wish i was less pickyyy#sometimes lalita cooks indian food for me and i'm like wow. i love and appreciate u for feeding me. but this sure is south indian food#i don't understand How they use spices. it feels like they toss as much of as many bottles as they can into every dish#and it's. the taste is just OW OW OW and nothing else. where's the nuance. the flavor.#and i like it when things are spicy!! i can even eat things where the flavor is just Hot. but not when she cooks it.#she will like watch my face when i take a bite and then go 'if you don't like it i'm throwing away all my pots and running away'#which. honestly a fair reaction. the problem is that i am incapable of lying

New Shit November: discovered there's a new Asian cafe nearby, so I went and got a cream cheese milk tea and a cheesy mamon, which I've never heard of but looks delicious.
the cream cheese tea doesn't actually taste like cream cheese, it's just extra creamy.
#it's a little expensive but ill have to go back there#also discovered a little korean street food place and an indian grocery store on the way there which i will have to remember#this part of town actually has lots of cool stuff its just all in really tiny difficult to access strip malls#new shit november

so humiliating going to the local indian grocery store being half indian and white passing. just got jumpscared by the guy working there following me around asking "do you need any help? :)" I'M INDIAN I SWEAR
#to be fair the lip ring is probably a bit throwing#mine#the joke here is that traditionally if an indian female presenting person walked into a store#the guy working there wouldn't approach her at all out of like. respect i guess#approaching her would be misconstrued as flirtation#obviously he thought I was white and was doing a good customer service thing#not bitching he was nice but god.#IM ONE OF YOU I PROMISE

Age Before Beauty
What is the "toss" sound anyways? Is it the noise of wind?
The jagged lightning-ish lines atop the box is weird.
Cigar Store Indian out. Teddy bear in. I find the sparks around Barry's hair in the third panel just kinda confusing -- like, it would just signify a cowlick.
After Betty's war against this box, Veronica gets hers in the end. A laugh track gets added, and gets turned way up.

I was looking through my parents spice cupboard and I found some old ass looking asafetida, turns outs it’s from an Indian govery store in NYC that my mom bought sometime in the mid 1980s
#we cooking with it tonight woooooo#also to me it being from an Indian grocery store in NYC is important cause we’re in Alaska and it obviously from India#so it’s doubly traveled places I’ve never been#the fucking chaos that is my family’s life and house means I find treasures like this all the time#googoogajoob
