yeah I keep seeing people say "satire is the best weapon" and I'm like. my guy, if that were true then Stewart and Colbert should've prevented the fascist takeover. Also weapons are double-edged and if the subject of the satire doesn't get it, they can use it against you — think of J6 types identifying with Homelander, cosplaying him because they *want to be like him*... There's a song in Cabaret, a musical written by three Jewish men (John Kander was gay also), a musical decidedly designed to criticize Nazis and explore how regular people dealt with the rise of fascism — the song is Tomorrow Belongs to Me. It's written to feel like an old German folk song, and throughout Cabaret it's sung almost exclusively by the characters who wind up wearing swastika armbands. It's satire, even though it's not funny, of the songs that Hitler Youth actually sang. It's used in the show to let us know who the Nazis are, and to scare decent people with the idea of such an innocent nationalist folk song adopting evil undertones. (Think "my country tis of thee" or more sadly "this land is your land", if you're American)

Nazis in real life fucking love the song and cover it all the time. They use it to connect with other Nazis. Kander and Ebb didn't write it for Nazis but the Nazis fucking took it, because that's what fascists do, they don't tend to have enough soul to create good art so they steal and misuse. I wouldn't be surprised to see someone in a Homelander cosplay singing "Tomorrow Belongs to Me" and gunning down a bunch of children. I'd be sad af of course, but not at all surprised.

I also think there's something to be said about The Boys being produced by Amazon. I'm not sure exactly how to say it though

I was thinking about the Boys recently, and how it does a really good job of showing how god awful society can be and the way in which they mock the right wing for their actions. It's a show that personally I really enjoy.

The problem is, the right wing don't understand satire and that this show isn't for them. And, personally, I feel it has emboldened a lot of people to act even more like dicks to others.

I've had conversations with people who don't realise Homelander isn't a hero. They can't understand why people don't like Homelander because he 'cares about America.' Not understanding that the only person he cares about is himself. The only thing he cares about is power, absolute power. He wants to take over America and make it in his own image.

He is a literal Nazi who was in cahoots with a literal Nazi (Stormfront).

But the right don't get this. They don't understand that the show is mocking them by showing how the undying love for Homelander, and the cult of personality, mimics the undying love that many of them have for Donald Trump and MAGA.

And this is ultimately the problem.

They seem to think this show is a how to guide for the right wing, when actually it's a 'this is what the world is coming to and it's scary.'

Whilst I love the Boys, I'm glad it's ending with Season 5. It will be interesting to see how the justify some of the things such as the concentration camps in the show.

Whilst Soldier Boy was an ass as well, worst thing they ever did was stop him from killing Homelander and his son.

I don't think enough people are paying attention to project 2025. I know it's a big document and I don't really expect the average person to read it all or anything like that but being aware of it and knowing some of the key plans/goals it describes is probably pretty useful.

Like you know how in movies the evil villain goes on a monologue describing their whole evil plan and you think "they just revealed everything, If that were me I would know exactly how to stop them now"

This is that. Conservatives just outlined their whole evil plan in detail down to the who, what, when, where, how, and why's of the things they intend to do if they take the presidency again, the thing is 900 pages long and basically anything you might want to know or plan countermeasures for is in there.
