Remus opened his letter, surprised when it appeared to be a howler. The last time he’d heard one was the day before Sirius got disowned back in 5th year.

He was in the dining hall for breakfast, sitting at the staff table. He watched as Harry and Hermione plotted, looking anxious. He blew it off, as it seemed Harry was always weary.

“A howler,” Snape sneered from beside him.

“Astute observation, Severus.” Remus told him, nodding at him.

Remus disregarded Snape, and focused on the howler. There was no name on it, so it was possible it was from a student playing a prank. In good nature, for the prankingnostalgia, Remus opened it.

There was silence for a moment before a loud, booming voice started to yell. “DARLINGGGGG, GUESS WHOS BACK FROM JAIL” And it was his Sirius Black. And he knew they would find each other again.

Maturing is realising that barely any of the marauders  era students met in the after life. Regulus’ soul was stuck in the cave. Sirius’ was stuck in the veil. Barty’s soul was with the dementors

what if regulus truly never knew that his parents were abusive? what if they focused so much on sirius becoming the perfect heir that they didn’t even care what regulus did or how he acted? what if sirius did everything he possibly could to make sure that his little brother never knew the abuse that he faced and the trauma that their parents had caused? what if when sirius ran away, regulus didn’t even know until the next day? what if that’s when the hits started, and regulus believed that sirius had just decided to leave him one day, causing their parents to suddenly turn abusive? what if regulus blamed sirius for their parents hitting him, not knowing the years of abuse that sirius had endured just to keep regulus from knowing the truth?

i must preface this by saying all of this hcs are self indulgent and based on my characterization of them so dont come for me

reg would be the best at understanding when harry needs space, like as some people may read it as reg not being interested in getting to know him, harry just really appreciates not being pushed into talking/bonding, like reg does not care looking like the "mean" one if that's what makes harry comfortable

alsooo reg is much more in "touch" with today's youth than james so when it comes to movies and music he clicks so well with harry and james is like cool cool cool so a24 is like a franchise right or how do they have so many movies??

harry asks reg for help for assignments and asks him to proofread his essays and reg is very gentle with his corrections and comments. in my mind harry is booksmart but sometimes the concepts and ideas he has are hard to properly translate on paper and that's where reg and his beautiful mind comes in

if harry ever has like a bad attitude kinda day because you know teen he is toooo similar to james and they clash, reg just finds it amusing but knows it's on him to mediate

their favorite thing to do as a family is read together, yes im talking that scene in cmbyn where the mom is translating in real time, that's them!!! reg ofc is the one translating and james is actually the one spread out in the couch while reg plays with his hair but harry loves hearing reg reading out loud

on james' bday they always give him a present together, they make a day out of picking it and regulus always lets harry write the card even if his penmanship isn't as pretty as reg's
