so brett wrote both 1x05 and 3x04, and there are quite a few parallels between the respective jamie/keeley scenes in those episodes:
in 1x05 keeley is abruptly getting over jamie because of his seeming callousness and immaturity. in 3x04 she’s doing the opposite, falling for him again because of his growth and maturity.
in 1x05, jamie has another girl interested in him, and keeley isn’t that bothered by it. in 3x04, jamie once more has another girl interested in him but this time keeley very much is bothered by it.
in 1x05, jamie is doing PR set up by keeley, and it goes sideways. in 3x04, jamie once more is doing PR set up by keeley, and it goes smoothly.
1x05 was a turning point in that it set jamie and keeley down different paths, away from each other. 3x04, then, could be a turning point in setting them on paths back to each other.
even from a set design point of view — in 1x05, jamie’s foyer is sparse and the décor that is there is tacky and probably came with the house, the mark of someone who doesn’t plan on staying. in 3x04, the tacky décor is gone, replaced by more sensible art and warm lighting, the kind keeley has in her own house, the mark of someone who does plan on staying.
i’m just saying.

Who sees my vision
June is the Maker. June's Tears reverse engineers people.
The Firefly can melt Stone. To make bodies out of?
Sylaise eases the passage of "children and other new mortals" "into this world".
Sylaise' fire led to people covering themselves in "skins"
MEN WHO WERE BEASTS
And the WHOLE Nature of the Beast questline being beasts turning into humans???
HE CREATED HIMSELF.
There's also a theory that June was a dwarf, because of his Mosaic having a beard and splint mail pauldrons. So if he created his children in his image, that's why they don't have pointed ears. And are bigger. You can't be big without the titans.
The leather of this armor gives off a faint, living heat. It is heavier than it looks, but the weight and warmth are somehow comforting. The armor makes little noise in motion, and after a surprisingly short time, wearing it feels quite natural.

travel light
was listening to one of my fav audiobooks the other day (this is how you lose the time war by amal el-mohtar and max gladstone) and got to the part where blue recommends a book to red
"PS. Should this find you near a library, I recommend Travel Light by Naomi Mitchison. It's the same in all strands in which it exists. It might be a comfort to you on the move--I can tell you're moving a lot right now."
to which red responds "Read the Mitchison. Loved it. (Though that seems too quick a summary--I get what you mean about words, now.) It hit me. Especially the dragons and Odin and the ending. I had a harder time with the Constantinople section--I may be missing some context there, though I can see what place it holds in the book, and the trickery reminds me of pieces of Don Quixote. But the final revelation--about the kings and the dragons--yes. Funny how we always think of knights as fighting dragons, when in fact they work for them.
Garden seems to like roots, and this book roots in rootlessness. Are you a tumbleweed, then? A dandelion seed?
You are yourself, and so remain, as I remain,
Yours,
Red" if i'd meant to look it up before during an earlier reading, it wasn't with dragon age on the brain and i never followed through. but this go-round, because it's dragon age summer and DA has occupied my whole being of late even moreso than usual, my attention was caught by mentions of dragons and trickery. looked the book up later to find out the main character's name is halla. well damn I'm sold now.
anyway i just snagged my copy and am now off to search for clues

So Jason is thinking about Bruce and Dick in this panel, "Taken under his wing, not for the child's sake, but for his own. A complex and emotional construction to keep him safe from the outer fringes of madness. From doing what he feared really needed to be done in Gotham." AND THEN he says in the next panel, "I later learned that he brought me under his wing only to keep me from eventually becoming his enemy." Which is just. So good.
Tumblr media
This panel is from Batman #410. In this one, Bruce believes that he's saved Jason from a life of crime by taking him in. (I'm fairly certain there's another panel somewhere where he says something similar, but I couldn't remember where it was.)
Tumblr media
So basically Jason and Bruce are both thinking, 'Bruce took Jason in to keep him from crime' but they've each spun it in slightly different ways. Plus, you have Jason thinking that Bruce took Dick in for selfish reasons, so of course it makes sense that Bruce would take Jason in for selfish reasons. And he kind of did, because Bruce has quite the savior complex! But also, if Jason hadn't had that certain Robin "I want to help so let me help" quality about him, Bruce wouldn't have adopted him. He still would have helped him, because again, Bruce has to save everybody, but it would have been through something other than adopting Jason and making him Robin.

The
Andrei Rublev/Hard to Be a God
Venn diagram of:
When Andrei is asked to paint the dome of a church with a terrifying Last Judgement scene with all the sinners burning in Hell and being punished, and he can't bring himself to do the commission saying:
“I can’t paint this; it disgusts me. Can you understand it? I don’t want to terrify people. I am what I am.”
_______________
and the HTBAG exchange that goes:
Budach said quietly, “Then, Lord, wipe us off the face of the planet and create us anew in a more perfect form … Or, even better, leave us be and let us go our own way.”
“My heart is full of pity,” Rumata said slowly. “I cannot do that.”

History Reader A: Wow, all this gratuitous rapemurder was kind of disgusting and wrong.
Historian A: That's because your tiny mind can't comprehend the values of the time.
[across the virtual room]
History Reader B: So I was wondering why the Vikings converted to Christianity when it's not like anyone could've forced them to do it.
Historian B: Because Norse paganism was a rapemurdery little bitch who had it coming.
