I think Hussie should give me Cronus Ampora and just let me like have him. as my own OC. Because Hussie just left so much on the cutting room floor with Cronus (and most of the Dancestors tbh but I feel like Cronus was especially just one note in his presentation and dynamics. Like I love the way we see Horuss tall about himself and his weird issues. And we see Latula's rad girl persona inspected by Porrim. And we see Kankri get pointed out as a rather callous person at times, and we even see him actively angry. But Cronus doesn't really get any of that which feels like a shame.

To me so much of the Dancestors as a group is like - facades and what's underneath them. Most of the group have very obvious stereotypes and archetypes they fit into- and Hussie allows most of these facades to be interrogated, to show us how they hide facets of the Dancestors personalities and opinions and insecurities.

So much of the Dancestors characterization is deconstructing the persona we are immediately presented with. And Cronus doesn't get much of that. We see hints of this deconstruction, but it's usually played for laughs and not much else.

Hussie asks him to go on a date then reveal it was just to get to seahorse dad and Cronus is very visibly hurt by this. We see him question if his status as Humankin IS just a cry for attention. And we see the way that he flip flops from seemingly social conscious and aware (even if this is presented as just a way to get people to put up with him more) to being actively horrible, ableist, and bigoted.

He stops himself every time he intends to say the r-word... and even if that's just to not seem like an asshole or to avoid getting Kankri on his ass that's something that to me says a lot about him. He *does* know right from wrong but he seems to exploit knowing this based on his goals in that exact moment. He's so manipulative and I want to dig into that. I want to dig into how he says he learned the hard way magic was just a farce. How he says he's 'so over the magic scene'. PLEASE HUSSIE GIVE ME MORE CHARACTERIZATION OF THIS GUY SO I'M NOT JUST DECONSTRUCTING THE SAME LIKE THREE INTERACTIONS AND FIVE PIECES OF DIALOGUE.

Of course Sanji and Zoro’s rivalry is their thing, its emblematic of them, but sometimes I have to take a step back and remind myself that they aren’t total opposites, and though they don’t always meet eye to eye, they are, in fact, capable of understanding each other even without words.

There’s a couple of scenes in particular in which Zoro just seems to be entirely transparent to Sanji. In Alabasta and in Punk Hazard, Zoro grits his teeth to hide his worry about their Captain- hell, their entire crew- being overpowered. And Sanji right away points it out.

They’ve only known each other for maybe over a month, and already Sanji is picking up on Zoro’s habits. And the way he calls him out on it doesn’t strike me as malicious. I would hardly call it teasing, either. I think he’s trying to goad Zoro into admitting his hesitation so he can overcome it. It wouldn’t do to have the Crew’s now-lead combatant stewing in angry/anxious silence with the long road ahead of them.

It’s this subtle communication, poking at each other when what they really want to say is you’re stronger than this or dont forget I’m standing next to you. “Marimo-kun, are you worried about me?” or “I now have something to look forward to, so don’t die before then.” It’s understanding without words. They don’t butt heads because to some sort of miscommunication, no. They understand each other perfectly. That’s sort of what makes them want to go all out.

the fallout of that, of maggie being against it, of rick never having gotten to see negan at the end, not knowing the choices he made, the good and the bad. daryl and carol looking at glenn, seeing him alive and in love and having no memory of his last moments, and never wanting anything to ruin that, but negan saved judiths life, helped save all their lives. he chose, in the end, and now it's their turn

wanna think about a future where beth doesn't die, but they go on a rescue mission to get noah anyway. a future where tara turns up with her niece, led by eugene with abraham and rosita following right behind him

wanna think about how they'd handle terminus, how they'd handle the claimers. wanna think about them trying to find father gabriel, except gabe made it the first time around, and he wasn't wasting his second chance. he saved his flock, and he led them to alexandria, and he's waiting

carol struggling to be the mother sophia needs her to be, emotions too sharp and constantly fucking terrified. doesn't know how to hold onto someone like that anymore, either gripping too tight or not at all

maggie trying to exist in a world where she has everyone she's ever loved back, so close and so fucking dear, except it cost her her son. not knowing if she'll ever get him back at all. doesn't know how to live with the grief of losing someone she never technically had in this world

I appreciate your post about Hen and Athena. I’ve only been around a few months and while there’s been nothing surprising about the continued racism in this fandom (I’m just a tired black woman trying to have a good time), it’s been ridiculous to watch folks double down when called out or think things were cute that were absolutely ridiculous in their execution. Despite having writers of color, this show misses a lot but also the complacency in fandom of not only racism and misogyny but specific misogynoir is just ridiculous. I mourn for fans im sure have just NOPED out bc of how pervasive it is and would have had incredible things to contribute.

I have seen the way racial harassment, racist ideas, and biases have pushed out friends and fan creators. And I have seen how black and brown fans are treated differently for calling attention to issues of racism in fandom. Fan spaces are chronically white, and that is reflected in fan interpretations, the way a fandom engages with a piece of media, and the way white fans interact with black and brown fans.

There is a lot of unchecked racism, ableism, misogyny, and homophobia in 911 fan spaces, and I *know* fans have “noped out” because of its pervasiveness. I believe that these spaces should be welcoming and safe and fun for any fan. People shouldn’t have to worry about whether they’re following “safe” blogs or feel anxiety scrolling through tags and art as they wait to be confronted with racist takes or whitewashed caricatures. And the fact that fan content is created for free is no excuse.

I want fan spaces to be more welcoming, and I think calling attention to commonly held regressive ideas is *one* thing I can do. It’s not the *only* thing I should do, tho. I think it’s important to love black and brown fans and the amazing perspectives they bring more than I hate racist takes. It’s also important to show genuine interest in black and brown creators and reach out to make genuine connections. This is, after all, a community. Making a space welcoming includes showing support for the amazing creators who are here. It’s not just the racist takes and racist interactions that push black and brown fans out, but the disparate treatment their art and contributions receive. Because amazing people *have* been alienated from fan communities, and these spaces feel empty without their voices.

Imagine falling in love with a crazy woman that barged into your dungeon and continuously tried to kill you. Press F for Thistle. As well as for Kiera, for that matter, since she also didn’t expect for things to turn out like this.

This relationship is such a mess that nobody (even the pair themselves) can figure out what the hell is going on between them anymore.

Clarifications are, as always, under the cut:

♤ The age gap goes in several directions at once. Technically, Thistle is at least 700+ years older than Kiera, since he was a dungeon lord for a thousand years, while Kiera is only 302 years old. On the other hand, he’s younger in terms of physical and perhaps mental maturity. In my narrative, Thistle stopped aging when he was an equivalent of a human 17-19 years old. In the same way Kiera would be somewhere around 21-23 years old if she was human. (In any case, both are equally emotionally stunted and immature...)

♤ They’ll be together forever because Thistle is the living embodiment of “Bold of you to assume that death will get you out of this relationship”. Also after all the shit they went through (including what they personally put each other through), they became so attached to each other that they will kill you if you try to separate them.

♤ Though they don’t dress up much while in the dungeon, both are naturally pretty, but their deeply unpleasant personalities ruin everything. Therefore not a 100% cute couple.

♤ They were not thrilled about being in love. They more or less calmed down about it by now (mostly Thistle) and took on a new approach, but at first it was nightmarish.

Thistle also used to be especially infuriated by that fact because, like, he’s got a dungeon to run! The Golden Country to protect! He needs to find his brother! Meanwhile Kiera is literally the number one hazard. He already had to think about her a lot lately because of how troublesome she is, but now he completely lost the ability to get her out of his head. He’s so busy, he already knows what he wants, and he simply has no time nor need for this nonsense. The worst part is that Kiera started to slowly replace thoughts about Delgal in his mind, and Thistle is truly horrified by that.

Kiera took it all with a bit calmer “Damn, I need to hurry up in killing him”. She hates experiencing those kinds of feelings, she hates that she wants to be closer to someone again, she doesn’t want to get stuck with him in this dungeon for eternity, how can she possibly fail- She had one job, goddamnit. It’s her own fault for wasting time because of her own curiosity. Giving up because of falling in love with a target is pathetic and nothing like her. Especially when those feelings endanger her freedom.

♤ I don’t think Thistle would eat dry noodles even in the modern AU, but nutritional value is almost the only thing that concerns him about food. Would probably eat something incredibly bland or barely cooked and wouldn’t care as long as it keeps him functioning.

Kiera's relationship with food is a long and complicated story... In any case, she is rather picky and her eating habits are all over the place, but she genuinely finds healthier food options tastier most of the time.

♤ Just because Thistle rarely brings up Kiera and the fact that they’re in a… “relationship” (if you would call it that) doesn’t mean that he doesn’t spend a frustratingly large part of his day thinking about her. He’s just the type to obsess quietly.

And in any case, who is he going to tell about her? Soulless bodies of his family sitting in his dining room? His monsters? Villagers of the Golden Kingdom who are all terrified of him?

At least Kiera mingles with other adventurers from time to time.

♤ What draws them to each other is not only being able to understand each other due to their similarities, but also the fact that both of them are really fucking lonely. That’s the glue here. That’s why they latched onto each other so hard and so quickly. (Kiera might claim that she’s okay with being alone, but she’s still human)

♤ Regarding "What stands in the way". Basically, the problem is that they stubbornly cling onto their old priorities because it’s the only thing they have ever known. Thistle is nothing if he doesn’t serve the Golden Kingdom. Kiera is nothing if not a war machine. I guess they both see themselves as tools that are only allowed to have one purpose.

On another note, at this point Kiera tries to kill Thistle not only “for sport” and because she hates giving up, but also because she’s terrified of attachment. Thistle doesn’t make things easier for her, since he tends to get too attached, as well as controlling, and his idea of expressing love includes putting Kiera in the safe terrarium that he controls, so he could take care of her fo-re-ver.

So what we have is a “control freak vs free spirit” kind of problem. This does get resolved by the end of the manga and they come to a "compromise". Not willingly by themselves, though, but because of the circumstances.

♤ Regarding Thistle and “haven't experienced any genuine human connection in centuries” – yes, he had Delgal, but I think that that after everything Thistle has done, their relationship most likely became way more emotionally distant in the last few centuries, at least on Delgal’s part.
