A fic for @luna-lovegreat
The request: "wild did something dangerous (of course) but he could have died but honestly didn't think about it and then the others are like you idiot you could have died but he thought it would have been fine and was saying so and then he realized he didn't have miphas grace anymore. It could be even more evil if it involved water so he was wearing the Zora armor >:)"
A huge splash.
“RANCHER!”
Wild’s head whipped around so fast he could’ve gotten whiplash. He climbed atop a cliff, a safe distance away from all the monsters and searched the battlefield for Twilight. There was no sign of him, only the other links stabbing and slashing enemies. But Wild did notice a Lizalfos sneering and pointing at a spot in the lake nearby. He pulled out his bow and tried firing an arrow but he was too far away. “Pup?” Time called, panic in his voice.
The cook gritted his teeth and then ran off the cliff. The air slowed and time almost stopped. He could see wide eyes and mouths moving but didn’t care. Wild nocked an arrow and watched satisfied as it pierced the Lizalfos head, and then time resumed and he was falling rapidly to the ground. “What are you doing?!” Warriors shouted.
He pulled out his paraglider and caught himself, then sailed towards the lake. He let go of the paraglider and landed safely on the ground. “Twilight?” He yelled.
The cook saw a dark blob deep in the water and his breath caught in his throat. He quickly pulled out his slate and soon with a swirl of blue, his champion’s tunic was replaced with the Zora armour.
I’m coming, Twi.
Then he leaped into the water. He began to sink underwater and his heart raced and panic made his stomach churn. Wild had never liked going underwater, but goddess-dammit he would do this for his mentor. He sank towards the dark blob, and sure enough it was Twilight, eyes closed and slack. The cook tugged at his arms but the ranch hand wouldn’t budge. Wild’s lungs began to burn. He flailed for a moment.
The Shrine of Resurrection. You died. You failed everyone.
No, he thought. He has Mipha’s Grace, she can help him. The cook shook himself out of it and found that Twilight’s leg was caught under a rock. Wild pushed the rock until it tumbled off Twilight’s leg and then he pushed Twilight up, ignoring the agony in his lungs and nose, and the blood pounding in his ears. Someone grabbed the rancher and he relaxed a little, before realizing he was sinking again. Water filled his throat as he coughed and his vision began to turn black.
__________
Warriors heard the second splash and jerked around to see the cook gone now. He paled as he realized Wild had likely gone in. “Cover for me, Sprite!” Warriors demanded and took off towards the lake.
He was able to see two blobs in the lake and reached out towards it. A freezing cold hand just barely brushed his, so the captain grabbed it and pulled it up. He saw the rancher there and quickly got him on land. There was no Wild, but Twilight’s lips were blue and he wasn’t moving or breathing. “Fuck.” He cursed and began chest compressions.
After awhile Twilight convulsed and water spilled out of his mouth as he began hacking and throwing it up. Eventually Twilight slumped and laid on the ground, thankfully now breathing. Warriors pulled out a potion and helped the rancher swallow it. Colour returned to Twilight’s face and his breath evened. “Where’s the cook?” Time shouted.
The blood drained from the captain’s face. “Someone watch over Twilight I’ll be back!” Warriors barked and inched closer to the lake.
“Don’t try anything reckless, cap! We’re already down a few fighters!” Sky called.
Warriors lost track of Wild and swore. “Take this!” Time suddenly threw a suit at Warriors.
Warriors held it for a few seconds before recalling Mask wearing something similar and he put the suit on as quick as possible. Then he dove into the water. Surprisingly, the suit helped him breathe underwater easily so he began searching for the champion. He swam for a bit before spotting blonde and a lighter blue. The captain rushed towards Wild, and wrapped his arms around him before slowly swimming up. Something hit Warriors upside the head and his vision blurred before he heard a cackle and then another thing hit the captain. He was forced further into the water. His head throbbed badly. That wasn’t a good sign. But the captain was reminded that Wild was probably dying or dead and he swam up despite the thing that was hitting his head repeatedly. He got above water with a gasp.
 “—rs, Wa—, Wars!”
A hand helped him back ashore. “Sky?” Warriors slurred, his head pounding.
“Yeah. Time and Wind are handling the last few Lizalfos.” Sky informed him, worry shining in his eyes.
“Where’s Wild?” Warriors asked.
“Right next to me…He’s…He’s not breathing.” Sky choked out.
Warriors tried to move to get to the cook but his vision whirled and he had to stop. “Don’t worry I’m coming!” Hyrule screeched, eyes wide.
Sky had his hand on the captain’s shoulder. “Stay awake.”
He nodded slightly and watched as the traveller did chest compressions and mouth to mouth. “That was the last of them!” Wind yelled, relief and worry in his tone.
“Good job sailor.” Sky praised giving Warriors shoulder a squeeze when he almost drifted into sleep.
“Potion!” Hyrule hissed.
They all searched their bags, and Sky checked Warriors’ but they were out of potions. “Shit, okay…can we access Wild’s slate?” Hyrule questioned.
“No…I’ve tried before.” Wind answered, ears drooping slightly.
“…Oh, wait!” Sky pulled out a fairy bottle and tossed it to the traveller.
Hyrule swiftly uncorked it and the fairy flew out. Hyrule whispered something in a language Warriors couldn’t understand and pointed at the cook. The fairy chimed and whizzed over to Wild before circling him, pink particles fluttering down. Everyone waited, tense and worried until Wild shot up and water began spewing out of his mouth, spraying it all over Hyrule’s tunic. The fairy chimed again and flew away, disappearing in the distance. “Wild!” Wind gasped.
Water poured out of the champion’s mouth as he hurled it on the ground. “That was the last of them.” Time came back, panting heavily.
“Ol’ M’n?” Wild slurred, and then passed out, head hitting the ground with an alarming thud.
Time’s face hardened into a more stoic mask. “Let’s go.”
Sky helped Warriors up, concern glimmering in his eyes as the captain stumbled a little. “Got hit in the head by something.” Warriors explained.
“There was a Lizalfos spitting at that water.” Sky gritted his teeth.
“Wild’s enemies?” Warriors asked.
“Most likely. The champion’s got some nasty monsters in his era.” Legend piped up.
The old man picked up the rancher, and Legend ended up carrying the cook. They walked, silently, only distant noises from nature echoing throughout the air. The veteran refused to look at anybody. Time’s eyes stayed ahead of the group, eyes pained. Wind looked nervous, looking at everyone with worry. Eventually they found a spot to set up camp and pulled out two bedrolls for Wild and Twilight. “Does anyone have blankets?” Hyrule asked.
Four pulled out some and the traveller wrapped the cook and the rancher with a couple of blankets. Everyone sat down on the grass. “Why…I know he’s reckless, but he’s smart! We could’ve come up with a plan!” Legend blurted out.
“What matters is he’s alive now.” Sky declared.
“What if he throws himself into a situation like that again…and doesn’t make it back out?” Legend choked out.
Everyone fell quiet. “I’ll talk to him.” Time decided after awhile.
The veteran stood up, rubbed his eyes and took off, sprinting away from the camp at an incredible speed. “Vet!” Hyrule cried out, standing up with one arm extended.
“He probably just needs a moment.” Time murmured.
Hyrule’s mouth started to move but he didn’t say anything, and sat back down. The captain took a shuddery deep breath and stared at the ground as voices slowly became incoherent, a buzzing noise ringing in his ears instead. His head pounded as he was pulled into unconsciousness.
______________________________
“—down, rancher. He’ll be okay.”
Wild groaned softly, his throat aching and his chest tight. “Wha..?”
“Guys, he’s awake!” Wind yelled.
“Cub.” Twilight growled.
Wild looked over to see his mentor seething. “Twi.” He responded, uncertainly.
The rancher stormed over. “Why’d you do that? Go and risk your life over mine, when I…I could’ve—should’ve gotten out of there on my own. You scared me, you-you idiot!”
“Twilight, I would’ve been fine. I have Mipha, remember?” Wild sighed.
“No the fuck you don’t. Remember what you told me at the beginning of this quest?” Twilight hissed.
“Mipha had to leave once the Calamity was defeated, and so did all the other champions. It’s a shame I relied on them so much, I’ve gotten more careless.”
Wild stiffened, and paled. He checked his slate, and sure enough, Mipha’s Grace was gone. “Oh.”
“Don’t you ever try something like that again.” Twilight stormed off, fists shaking.
Wild muttered a few curses under his breath and fidgeted with the sleeve of the Zora armour. “You’d probably be disappointed in me with how much I’ve needed your grace.” He mumbled.
Wild could almost see a faint teal glow in the room and hear a warm, soft whisper in his ear.

The X trilogy + "psycho-biddy" influences
#x 2022#pearl#maxxxine#x series#strait-jacket#psycho#what ever happened to baby jane#horror#psycho-biddy#hagsploitation#made this whole big thing which i still might post eventually but. in terms of aesthetics. this abridged version is better lol#i'm not gonna finish the other post tonight but consider this a preview of sorts#i can't stop thinking about what if they leaned more into the 'hagsploitation' aspect of it all lol#i actually find it odd + off-putting that they start and end maxxxine with a bette davis reference#with a big significant psycho cameo at the bates motel itself#and there's not really any payoff for those allusions!!#i think if you're gonna try to tie into a legacy of older horror films you should do it in a sincere way#because that just felt like 'elevated horror' bonus points + nostalgia bait#anyway. it's fun to think about the potential it had + how all the building blocks exist within the narrative to do something interesting#and i am a 1960s hagsploitation subgenre apologist lol#what ever happened to baby jane? changed my brain chemistry the first time i watched it as a kid#so maybe i'm just nostalgia baiting myself making these connections lmao#but it could have been so good#it could have been the perfect synthesis of the shared themes across all three movies#but i don't think hagsploitation gets butts in movie theater seats like girlboss 80s nostalgia vaguely true crime related shit#oh wait also i guess calling psycho a hagsploitation movie is like. probably not 100% accurate#but it is though. it's not an inversion of the subgenre bc the subgenre didn't exist yet#but it builds up a mystery 'psycho-biddy' character only to reveal that she's not the murderer#which is also what happens in strait-jacket so i think it counts!!#+ psycho is directly referenced in all 3 movies so it’s a pretty clear influence on the trilogy as a whole

Retconned Wardi firearms- a basic handgun, a highly decorative ceremonial handgun (belonging to Faiza), and a lance-gun.
Gun tech has officially been nerfed down to hand cannons (press F) (this has been a long time coming but I'd been fallacy of sunk costs-ing myself out of retconning).
Handguns are held similarly to a shotgun, with the butt pressed into the user's shoulder, one hand gripping under the barrel, and the other free to ignite the gunpowder. These represent the most advanced firearms in contemporary usage, both in make and in their use of uniform iron projectiles built to match the gun's bore for greater range and efficiency. Lance-guns are the more basal form, usually larger and mounted with the pole held over the shoulder, and are most effectively used by two people (one to hold and aim, one to light the gunpowder).
The spread of firearms is currently mostly limited to the Eastern Inner Seaway peoples (with some additional distribution via overland trade), and actual manufacture of hand cannons and gunpowder at Significant scale is limited to the region's core powers.
The reason for this limited spread is partially due to specific elements of the technology's history. Gunpowder was first synthesized by Burri alchemists and considered to be the discovery of the legendary divine weapon + solar fire of the deity Inanariya, and its formula (along with techniques for ideally refining its components) remained a closely guarded state secret. It was used predominantly in priestly contexts to generate flame and explosive sounds (in conjunction with earlier practices of generating multicolored flames with use of other chemicals), then integrated into combustible weaponry in the forms of fire lances, which would eventually develop into early handcannons.
The treatment of gunpowder as a guarded sacred or semi-sacred substance continued with Wardi adoption, where knowledge of its making is considered a closed rite. It's name (inya tsatsul or just tsatsul, a derived adoption of the Burri iñazatsūya) still reflects a divine solar association (the Burri word means 'sun's thunder', the Wardi 'inya' invokes the sun, 'tsatsul' is an adapted loanword and has no meaning independent of the substance itself), though its priestly use is now predominantly associated with the firearm'ed Odonii (rather than priests of the solar Face Inyamache). The composition of gunpowder can no longer be regarded as a Secret by any means, though efforts to obscure the methods of its creation are still moderately successful and has kept knowledge of gunpowder manufacture more limited than the total sphere of firearm usage itself.
The actual strongest limiting factor of firearm usage is the rarity of natural saltpeter deposits necessary for making gunpowder. The practice of actively producing saltpeter via nitraries has not been developed anywhere in the setting, and all is instead obtained via natural sources. These sources are rare and limited within the current spread of firearm technology, and result in gunpowder being a limited and expensive substance to produce. The weapons themselves are also very expensive to manufacture (a good quality steel SWORD is far too material-cost prohibitive for most people to own), particularly high quality firearms designed for use with standardized ammunition.
These guns are also very basal, and logistical difficulties in their use (weight, very slow loading and firing speed, high visibility, Relatively low reach and accuracy) along with the restrictive cost of production has kept firearms far from rendering conventional weaponry, armor, and projectiles obsolete (even within the societies that have access to them). They are still, however, very devastating in use within their contemporary context, particularly in that high quality guns have a longer range than the best arrow-based projectiles, and utterly negate most contemporary forms of armor at close range.
#I'd consider the setting to be like.....most closely analogous to like 3rd-1st century BCE earth (in terms of the average scale of#societies + Most of its technology (aside from major exceptions like this) + trade interconnectivity)#There are VERY few Very Big states capable of mass-manufacturing and resource extraction (like nothing the size of#the Roman empire has Ever existed in this setting. The biggest empires aren't even close. Cynozepal has a pretty massive territorial#span so is probably the closest thing but its actual control is highly fragmented along disconnected central hubs)#There's significant seaway trade connections but the Vast majority of transmission of goods is localized (even moreso over land)#So point being firearms have developed '''''earlier''''''' than in IRL history but the conditions that enabled very rapid spread are#not really present (though it's fairly inevitable that they'll become widespread over the next few centuries)#Also the likely trajectory of adaptation is going to be the development of Plate armor (which could absorb/block shots#from some types of firearms More advanced than these).#The types of armor used in this particular region is mostly lamellar/scale/padded fabric/leather and rarely involves#full body protection (using a shield to compensate) so developing thicker and fully protective armor would be the next logical#step in the arms race#I think it would be a fun constructed history for armor technology to outpace these simple firearms enough that they end up largely#abandoned in favor of re-specializing in close combat but I don't really care to plan out the far future that much

I'd probably have to read the printed version and web version back to back at some point to note all the differences but... ough
#sorry i'm going to be excited about this comic for the next month#nofna#okay having finished this now--#and sorry if this doesn't make sense to anyone who's completely unfamiliar with this comic in advance-#the 'popcorn ending' (printed version) is nice to see but i think the web version hits harder. if that makes sense#so i'm kinda tied on which ending i 'prefer'- i think both are good though#also considering i've read the web version a good 4-5 times and the printed version only once- i probably can't make that judgement yet#easy answer- i do like Nutsedge :] so it's nice to see the ending where nothing bad happens to her#but also- NT suddenly becoming a greenie-esque villain out of nowhere felt a little jarring#as well as SV suddenly turning a corner and becoming a 'good guy' (arguable)- considering the first three books are about#/him being too stubborn to change or accept any outside worldviews . Him suddenly coming to his senses felt out of place#<- probably biased because i like characters being bitter to the end and ultimately destroyed by their own hubris#the web version is probably‚ objectively‚ a bit better#but -#(spoilers- if you're planning to drop ~70 bucks on getting these books)#the conceit of SV actually perfecting his style‚ using it once‚ and then immediately getting tooth-brained- was pretty cool#assuming it's meant to parallel him spending months tormented by trying to perfect it while something's still missing-#and then dying before he can narrate it to the audience‚ so that we never know what he figured out.#hard to articulate these thoughts but tl;dr- popcorn ending also had a lot to think about

you know, an interpretation of ct that I don't see that I personally really love is that she's a fuck up. like yes she's cool and she has some good fight scenes, but a huge part of her character is that she makes mistakes. the mistakes that she makes are ones that on their own aren't the end of the world, but she keeps making these little mistakes, and they eventually add up until she's out of room to make any more.
a really good example of this phenomenon in action is the actions she took leading up to her final confrontation with carolina and tex.
strike one, she thought she saw something in the water, but when asked by the leader what it was, she brushed it off as nothing when even if it had been nothing, it would've been smart to tell him what she thought she saw.
strike two, she didn't sense or notice florida's presence when the leader did, and she looks at the leader twice, once as she pulled out her magnums, and again after she did a scan of the room, almost like she was looking at him for guidance before he finds florida and takes him out with one good axe throw.
strike three, she couldn't convince the leader to leave when they had the chance to get away, and her cheap tricks were not enough to hold off either tex or carolina in a fight. they were only good for incapacitating her opponents enough for her to get away, which doesn't work when she has no escape.
ct is not tex, or carolina, or south. she is not a one woman army who can get herself out of trouble when she's stuck in tough situations. she needs people who can watch her back, she need a team who can cover her when she does mess up, and the leader and his team were not those people. she couldn't bring herself to trust them, and they couldn't bring themselves to trust her, and that cost all of them their lives.

I have a question about the jp server pickups, since I really want knight Sebek, but I’m trying to save gems for bloom malleus + the 3rd tsum event that’s gonna show up sooner or later. Iirc, after knight Sebek, the next story update’s pickup had all of the previous story cards (ie cerberus Ortho, general Lilia, and knight Sebek). Is this true, and if it is, did it include a token system like the dorm pickups where you can just do 100 pulls and then buy the specific card you want directly? Because if that is how it works, then I can wait until then and be sure I won’t have to go to 200 for him.
we did indeed get a second chance at those three when 7-7 came out! I'm pretty sure there was not a token system -- though admittedly I don't 100% remember, sorry! 🙇 I took a quick search through some past posts/videos from people who tend to include the gacha and news stuff, but I didn't see any mention of it, so I'm inclined to think there really wasn't one. :( they were all separate pickups with their own pull counts rather than a combined one, if that info helps at all.
speaking as a strict f2p who hoards keys/gems like the lovechild of a dragon and a magpie, given the choice between saving for a story card and a birthday card, I'd go for story -- it does require a lot of patience, but there are way more opportunities to get past birthday cards, both from the anniversary events and the rerun pickups! tsums is a bit harder to say anything on because Eng doesn't follow the same event schedule, but it's a longish event and those pickups let you have a free 10-roll, so I think they're also a bit easier to save up for.
(ALSO speaking of free rolls, starting with the fifth round of birthdays -- the kutsurogi my room ones -- the birthday boy/union jacket/bloom cards have had a separate pickup that you can get two free 10-pulls at by doing missions! I got a bloom Jade from it a couple weeks ago. :D meanwhile general Lilia is the only story card I've ever managed to pull, so...I'm probably kinda biased. whoops.)
#twisted wonderland#twisted wonderland spoilers#twisted wonderland episode 7 spoilers#twisted wonderland book 7 spoilers#twisted wonderland episode 7 part 6 spoilers#twisted wonderland book 7 part 6 spoilers#joseimuke games are serious business#just speculating for a moment here#i could be completely wrong about all of this it's just me spitballin'#i suspect we WILL get a rerun pickup for the 7-7 and up story cards at some point#but probably not a third round of the diasomnia story boys :(#we never got a proper dorm rerun for them so i think we'll get that instead#but also that makes me wonder if we're going to maybe not get a story silver card after all...#because like#i realized earlier that since we've been getting main story drops pretty consistently every two months#(we had july + august in a row but september + october were for halloween so it averages out)#if we continue this way that means heartslabyul in january and return to diasomnia in march#which would be timed PERFECTLY for the fifth anniversary#it absolutely could just be a coincidence but. idk. i could see it being a fun place to end 7 on.#(i still think we're getting an episode 8 with grim. just. y'know. the TIMING)#but if that turns out to be true then there might not be time for a silver story card AND dorm reruns...#i mean i'm 100% talking out my butt here so i could be entirely wrong about all of it#(stay tuned for six months straight of training camp events and master chef reruns instead)#i just really want a silver story card okay#we've gotten so much silver angst and yet i demand MORE#unsuspecting anon: hey ego do you remember if there were tokens for the --#me: UUUURGH DELICIOUS SILVER TEARS#(sorry anon) (good luck with whoever you choose to pull for though! your taste in cards is excellent and i understand the dilemma 😭)

Alright-y, so in case anyone missed it, we've recently gotten some information from Quackity that he's most likely doing some new project, that seems to involve multiple languages, once again. Kinda like QSMP?
Maybe EXACTLY like QSMP…????
Or maybe not
Basically, the way I see it, it is pretty likely that this is QSMP-Related, what with the images that he's been posting recently, with the GODDAMN EYE GUY
However, even if it is QSMP-related, there is something that would need to be addressed
And that's that it's incredibly unlikely we'd be getting QSMP back in the form we knew it as
Honestly, I don't really see many of the Admins returning, Egg or otherwise. Whether it's by their own choice, or the choice of the powers-that-be. And I think we all know that all the Admins, Egg or otherwise, were a huge part of what made QSMP special
In addition to that, there's also a chance that with that sort of outcome, a lot of the Creators wouldn't be coming back either. I could kinda see some of them not returning even if the Admins DO come back. I know a few of them had more sour experiences with QSMP than others did, and I couldn't really blame them for not wanting to give it another shot
So even if this is QSMP, there's a HIGH chance it won't be the same server we knew
But I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. After all, I'm pretty sure the Eggs weren't initially MEANT to be as big as they were, which means that there HAD to be some plans for other stuff at one point or another
Hopefully…
Now obviously this is ALLL just, as usual, ✧˚⊹SPECULATION~!⊹˚✧
I'm not a psychic, and I don't know jack-all about what's been going on behind the scenes regarding QSMP or anything Quackity-related. I'm just making educated guesses and reminding everyone to temper their expectations, and try not to be too disappointed if this isn't exactly what you were hoping for
Because even if it isn't, I think it could still be something pretty fun, and I'll probably at least give it a chance regardless of whatever it winds up being
(Except maybe Purgatory 3, because I think I had enough of those vibes during my recent Purgatory 1 Re-Watch)
(Oh who am I kidding I'd probably end up checking out Purgatory 3 at least once I have a problem okay???)

tag the oc that's most likely to get stuck in a time loop and what kind of time loop it would be
#I feel like Kyana has time loop potential but idk what the exact loop would be#maybe the loop is the entirety of DAO and she keeps getting companions killed/locked into their Bad Endings#and the loop only stops when she manages to get them all to survive the Blight#something something she needs to learn to be a good leader and care about others#unsuccessful loops reset via the archdemon killing her (even if the dark ritual was performed)#Selene gets the classic 'your love interest keeps dying and you try to stop it' time loop#to escape the loop she must Let It Happen (and then it turns out it's fine and everyone survives)#Secret gives me the vibe of someone who knows they're in a time loop but has given up on trying to solve it#she's just going through it. trying everything. keeping herself entertained. trying to stay sane#sometimes she clues Varric in on the looping. sometimes she doesn't#actually maybe her time loop rule is that someone else has to save her from it. nothing she does by herself will work#idk what the exact reset point would be#I'm thinking the Arishok fight maybe. or Meredith#I don't think it would go as far as the Fade#also. after writing Homecoming I did have the thought of a time loop story#with Dorian as the one being trapped and trying to prevent Neil from dying/becoming possessed#maybe in his case he's not really trapped. he can stop anytime he wants but he keeps choosing to go back#the reset point is something Solas-related maybe#herearedragons meta#oc: kyana amell#oc: watcher selene#oc: secret hawke#oc: neilar lavellan#oh. actually. Aqun would be pretty fun to put in a time loop#that runs over some part of DAI and/or Trespasser#Adina is his time loop buddy (the person he usually tells about the loop because she immediately believes him)#idk what his reset/escape condition would be though#maybe in his case it's something purely mechanical#like there's no lesson to be learned it's just a magical anomaly he's trapped on#and on a meta level the 'lesson' is accepting that not everything has a Purpose or a Reason
