months from now, when they are married, they will notice that he'd become distracted. secretive. that he puts a hand over his writing when they approach his desk. and they will remember the Missionary's description of her husband's behavior right before he disappeared, and they will have a very similar moment.
they will not ask him to show the letters. they will choose to trust him. and, in about a week's time, he will show them the letters himself.
the Firebrand watching Drakona lie and scheme and manipulate and discard relationships and sell the location of the Nadir to advance their ambition and thinking — briefly — just briefly — about his wife. is that anything.
something something their relationship is never fully free of the trust exercise that they won't turn into the Missionary and he won't turn into the Missionary's husband

actually what if. the inquiry into a method of murder happens first. February catches wind of what Jacob and his people have been doing and comes to tell them to stop. Drakona listens. when she's done, they lean over the table and ask if she still wants access to the Nadir.
she knows what they're going to do with her payment. they know she knows. she knows they know she knows. the deal goes through anyway. maybe she just thinks they're going to fail. that they'll never find a mirror shard, that they won't find the means. or maybe she decides that ultimately it won't matter if she completes her plan.
#me when extremely reluctant allies that kind of don't want the other to succeed: YES.... HA HA HA..... YES#'the revolutionaries will never help you in this' but the revolutionaries do want the nadir. and really what does it matter what drakona#does with the payment. right?#oc: drakona#herearedragons meta

love when an ambition goes "so how much are you willing to trade away to get what you want? what is expendable? how much of yourself is acceptable collateral damage?". you know.
#and I do feel that's like. in every ambition#arguably maybe less so in lf because it's more about helping someone else#but I feel like it still kind of counts#to what unreasonable reality-bending lengths will you go to save one woman - a stranger to you - and her child#fallen london#yes this is about knifegate making me give up a big item but it works narratively.#drakona did not want to sell the location of the nadir.#the firebrand probably is not hyped about giving it to february.#but they'll do it if that's what it takes#oc: drakona

CHAT. WE FOUND THE KNIFE.
#and I have a decent amount of echoes left over.#herearedragons speaks#I feel good about that. it was Story Appropriate and when I'll need those items for something else I think taking the long way to get them#is fine by me.

tbh there is a poetry to selling the location of the Nadir (where things changed forever) (where a bond was forged that let them get This Far) to February (who will not approve of what they are about to do when she finds out) for a vial of Master's blood (like an omen for things to come) only to trade it away at the Bazaar (one of whose Masters they are plotting to murder)

listen. listen, NARRATIVELY. narratively. selling it to February is kind of fun because she'll be showing up later on in the storyline to tell them to not kill Cups

so how bad of an idea is it to sell the location of the Cave of the Nadir for a high echo cost item <- I am JOKING <- mostly
I have my knives. time to go fail a luck check
#I should not be doing that probably. the other ways of acquiring a vial of master's blood or whatever are probably convoluted and painful#is there a point in like railway or the parabola war or whatever where I will dearly regret selling the location of the cave.#also are any of the items you get for that even sellable.

oc fact! Sunny's legal name is Arthur Frost. he became Sunny by introducing himself as The Second Son in New Newgate (everyone's going by something other than their actual name? he's doing that also. don't want to stand out.), which then got tossed around by the urchins and criminals he worked with until the urchins made it Second Sun and the folks in the Medusa's Head took that and made it into Sunny.
he has a wanted poster of himself and his brother as a keepsake from the Surface that has both of their legal names. he doesn't have any identifying papers or anything so that's kind of the only proof left that he was ever called anything other than Sunny
THAT'S SO FUN? I looove characters who are anyone other than themselves, and the fact that there is one (1) memento of a life as a piece of proof that he can't get rid of...chef's kiss
