Alright as a wrap-up for this rant, before I go to bed, I'm gonna make a mistake and give you guys a sneak peek of a frame comparison because I make bad decisions when I'm tired

God I REALLY wanted to be an animator back then the MOTIVATION I must've had before is MIND-BOGGLING

I was really out here animating with sticks and berries, fueled by nothing but the grace of god, boredom, and the crippling depression I had from living on my own for the first time in a whole other state than everyone I knew

With I'm pretty sure an ancient laptop even back then with WINDOWS FRIGGIN VISTA. Maybe. I might've upgraded by that point

OH RIGHT AND ALSO I DIDN'T HAVE A TABLET

I WAS USING VECTOR LAYERS, WITH A MOUSE TO MANUALLY CREATE POINTS ON EACH VECTOR LINE BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE A FUCKING TABLET

Also shape tools aren't a thing in SAI I think (Or I didn't know how to use them at the time because again I was BRAND new to this) so I literally just had a separate document with a vector circle I made that I would open and copy over every time I needed a circle or oval

Basically I was using each layer as a frame, lowering the opacity of the previous "frame" and eventually having to go back and put all the opacity back to 100% because my dumbass didn't do it as I was going

THEN I think I had some program that would export very (VERY) short gifs from a set of layers and I had to export like 5 different gifs because it wasn't a great program. If I'm remembering correctly

THENNNNN I edited those gifs together in a really shitty video editor to make one coherent animation

And I think the thing that's bothering me the most was that I didn't do storyboards or roughs, AND I had no way to preview the entire animation as I went. I think I was technically using straight ahead animation before I even knew what any of the principles of animation were because I was BRAND fucking new to that sort of stuff
